Forgot to flash cappy essentials for Slim ICS - Captivate General

Hello, so I was flashing Slim ICS, and I flashed the Base for the ROM but I forgot to flash the essentials. Now, my phone won't boot. Can someone help me with repairing my phone? Do I have to Odin it?
Thanks in advance

no need to odin back. go into recovorey (press power +vol up/down release pwr when att splash comes on) and flash the essentials file
good luck

If you don't have recovery, grab a tar file for semaphore kernel. You can use Odin or Heimdall for that, and it will allow you to get recovery in order to flash the essentials

Are you trying to flash a ROM or backup your ROM, the way you have that worded confuses me. Are you using the ROM manager app, because I've never gotten it to work to any degree. If you're trying to flash the CWM kernel you need to do that via Odin.
i am trying to back up the current rom, but in order to do that I have to flash the CWM recovery right? but anyway, I have figured it out. Thank you
Ok glad you got it! Yea you have to use Odin to flash kernels, such as CWM. I believe there is a way to flash kernels off the SD card while booted into recovery mode, but I'm not familiar with it. Just flash that kernel with Odin, boot into recovery (Power button + Volume Up) and you can backup, restore, flash ROMs, etc. Enjoy buddy!
i have install clockworkmode-ginger-gamma on my sam.mini.. then when reboot it wont start.. now my hp canot on... plss... ASAP

Help!

Soft bricked(total noob) just got the JIG, got into download menu.
Can someone give me instructions on how to get back to stock, gain root, and install custom ROMS/ MIUI
It be very appreciated, i'm doing this for a buddy and i don't want to give him a brick lol.
1. for restoring stock : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
2. use superoneclick to root
3. Install clockwork recovery and rom manager
4. Install custom roms.
Wait before you flash that, what firmware version did it come with???
It could mess your phone up if it isn't right.

Pretty sure it came with 2.2 but not sure.
Then I wouldn't do that 2.1 Odin one click.... Look for a stock 2.2 Odin or Heimdall, make sure to read thoroughly too.

thank you for pointing it out
OP might want to look at these threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15330252
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=963403
Note: as b-eock pointed out, make sure what was your stock version before restoring it!
I've always just flashed newer than my stock to avoid that problem and it always works well for me, after bricking or when i want to flash a new rom i flash to cappy gingerbread and flash boog kernal to get CWM(clockworkmod). CWM is essential is you plan on flashing to other roms. If you plan on flashing to another rom anyways it doesn't matter which version of stock you load as long as it work so I'd just flash 2.2 or newer.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843
- this has all the odin 1-click flashable packages for captivate
To do everything you want to do...
flash back to stock, use 2.2 or one of the 2.3 versions. If you plan on flashing to a gingerbread rom (2.3) you'll most likely need the gingerbread bootloaders, if you don't originally flash a odin package with the gingerbread bootloaders you might be asked to install them later depending on what rom you use
incase you don't know odin is the computer program used to flash one click packages, you can find it by searching XDA, one click packages won't require it.
odin has to be open before you plug the usb into the phone putting it into download mode.
to flash to other roms you need CWM (ClockWorkMod-a customized recovery mode for the phone) the thread in this post has links to odin flashable kernals with CWM for each software build. To get CWM flash the respective kernal for the version you use. You'll need odin to flash the new kernal, its essentially stock apart from CWM. In odin select PDA and browse to the kernal zip to flash it.
you can search around XDA for oneclickroots, they will typically be odin or CWM flashable it's quite straight forward. New roms will typically already be rooted so you shouldn't have to root again.
good luck!
Does anyone know which exact ODIN i need to flash to get back to 2.2 from download mode.
You can use adamoutler's uckb2 heimdall one click. That's stock 2.2.
But whitch ODIN do i use.
Gez, HTC is so much easier then this samsung!

Unfortunately, there is currently no Odin one-click of stock Froyo (at least that I'm aware of). If you want stock Froyo, you'll need to either piece it together with full Odin, or use the Heimdall One-Click.

Take a look in this post. That should get you the right 3E recovery.
Once you have that, you can either use ROM Manager to install CWM recovery, or see if you can find a kernel with it already baked in and use ODIN to flash the kernel (look for the speedmod kernel).
Or you could flash stock GB, but that updates bootloaders and is a whole different can of worms.

Normally, the answer would be yes. However, as part of the Froyo update, AT&T managed to mess up the recovery menu, meaning that it won't flash unsigned packages. This makes getting CWM basically impossible without doing the steps in that post or flashing a different kernel.
You can root if you want to, but doing the steps in that post first will save you some headache.

I already rooted =/ , should i still try this?
If you have full ODIN, go here, and download the kernel labeled "speedmod-kernel-i897-k13c-500hz.tar" at the end of the first post. Open Odin, and in the "PDA" slot, navigate to the .tar file and flash it. That will get you the speedmod kernel, which has CWM, which you need to be able to flash.
Once it's flashed, just hold V+/V-/Power until it reboots, and then you'll be in CWM and can flash MIUI.
I'm assuming you've backed up all your apps with Titanium Backup, right? If you haven't, do that before you do anything else so you don't lose them.

[Q] Help! Stuck in CWM!

First of all I am somewhat new to android and rooting, and brand new to xda, so bear with me.
I rooted my fascinate several months ago and have been running teamhacksung's cm9 builds. Every time they come out with a new build, I flash it and all is good. Well I was on build 12, and I just tried to flash build 14 (I forgot to flash 13 when it came out) But after I flashed 14, my phone only boots into CWM recovery! From there I can still flash other rom builds, but that doesn't help anything. I've searched a billion forums trying to find a solution, but nothing seems to work.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Try booting into download mode. Hold power button + home + volume down.
This should bring you into download mode, where you can use odin to flash an official ROM so that you can start all over again. Of course, you can also use Odin to flash a custom ROM, but I suggest a stock one for you first and then root etc. and then reinstall CWM.

Darn, I was hoping it wouldn't have to come to that... oh well, after trying several times with different ROMs and different versions of CWM, it finally worked! Thanks for your help!
its not big deal!! my friend dnt worry
dnt worry
your phone is jst lost its bootloader(if u r new than it is a patch which help in booting) so jst google "bootloader for (whatever ur handset is )" nd install it using odin
That's not totally necessary. Wipe cache/dalvic cache and data flash rom... Anytime I have that issue it immediately fixes the problem.

[Q] Restore stock ICS with Clockworkmod?

Have installed clockworkmod, and with it CM 10 which works pretty good but
I also want to try the latest Stock ICS which is only available in TAR form for Odin.
I cannot get into the Samsung download mode anymore for use with Odin.
Is there an original stock ICS in zip fom for CWM? and if not, can I get into download mode some other way? since the vol up down plus power way keeps
bringing up the CWM recovery.

Do you already have your phone plugged into your computer first before trying to enter download mode? Otherwise I believe you can directly enter download mode from the reboot menu in CM10. If it's not there, then use terminal emulator to enter download mode...
Code:
Type "su" and press "enter"
Then type "reboot download" and press enter again
Your phone will then reboot into download mode. Always do a backup first.
If you are just wanting to check it out and go back to something else I recommend just flashing the debloated rooted stock rom here. That way you keep cwm and don't have to odin it again.

For what it's worth - if you don't mind doing a little work on the debloating side, the bloated deodexed rooted version of the newest T-Mobile OTA can be found here - just thought I'd mention it

How do i flash recovery for the gt-p5110?

Dear xda community,
I recently have been given a gt-p5110 to play around with.
Sadly i have not succeed in flashing a rom onto it...
I have some basic knowledge on flashing rom's but so far I hadn't had much luck...
I plan on flashing slimrom7 but I can't even get a proper recovery flashed...
I have tried flashing TWRP recovery using ODIN.
Even tough it says that the recovery is flashed successfully it doesn't appear to be working...
I also tried using ADB but I couldn't maintain a stable connection...
Hopefully someone is able to help me!
Kind regards,
Kevin Jansen.
After flashing with Odin you need to directly boot into TWRP, else stock rom restores stock recovery at boot.
How?

Thanks for your reply,
How would I do this??
And do you know where I can find the original stock rom + recovery in case I would like to restore it to stock?
Kind regards,
Kevin Jansen.
Uncheck auto reboot in Odin.
After flashing wait 1 minute.
Disconnect your tablet from PC.
Boot recovery.
That's it
Stock firmware (.tar.md5) most of the time includes stock recovery.img. the .tar.md5 can be flashed with odin too.
you should find stock firmware here for your Device: http://samsung-updates.com
