Are you trying to flash a ROM or backup your ROM, the way you have that worded confuses me. Are you using the ROM manager app, because I've never gotten it to work to any degree. If you're trying to flash the CWM kernel you need to do that via Odin.

i am trying to back up the current rom, but in order to do that I have to flash the CWM recovery right? but anyway, I have figured it out. Thank you

Ok glad you got it! Yea you have to use Odin to flash kernels, such as CWM. I believe there is a way to flash kernels off the SD card while booted into recovery mode, but I'm not familiar with it. Just flash that kernel with Odin, boot into recovery (Power button + Volume Up) and you can backup, restore, flash ROMs, etc. Enjoy buddy!

i have install clockworkmode-ginger-gamma on my sam.mini.. then when reboot it wont start.. now my hp canot on... plss... ASAP

[Q] any alternatives to the ROMmanager method?

i tried flashing a CM rom with ROMmanager. but that program isn't working on my phone for some reason. every time i try to reboot the phone into the clockworkmod recovery screen, it just takes me to the phones normal recovery screen. i'm a bit of a noob because i've never done this before, so if anyone could give me an alternative to flashing a custom rom or just help me fix ROMmanager, that would be awesome. (i also planned on installing an overclocking kernel, so i don't know if other methods would have any effect on me being able to do that or not.)
try flashing with rsd lite 4.9

While you are still on stock rom, the stock recovery will keep coming back on every reboot. Try flashing clockworkmod recovery from within Rom Manager, let the phone reboot and then flash it again. You should be able to flash a Custom Rom now.
This is how it worked for me.

fastboot flash recovery http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.0.2-crespo4g.img
are you using stock rom? stock rom erases your custom recovery every time you reboot your device.
if you are running stock rom flash this after you flash recovery and your custom recovery will stick

I am having the same problem as the OP, but this post doesn't make any sense to me. It seemed to have worked for him though, so could I ask you to elaborate?
I never had clockworkmod work for me, and I get to the same screen when I use the vol up button and the power button. I am not sure what to do with that file you posted though.

I had this exact same problem on 2.3 .. I'd have to flash CWM everytime I wanted something flashed. If it doesn't do it the first time and it shows u the stock recovery, reboot and open CWM and flash again. Then flash the Fix and ull be fine . For me it fixed itself once I got to 4.0.x

Reason: on a stock ROM the /system/etc/install-recovery.sh script will replace any custom recovery on each boot. Feel free to rename or delete this file, the next recovery you flash will stick until you flash another Stock ROM.

I know this is a little bit of a older post but it seems relevant. I have a epoc 4g touch running AOKP Milestone 5 and I am unable to make CWM Stick keeps reverting to the stock android recovery. Any Ideas?

Well i don't have an Epic 4G Touch so i can't say for sure, but it's probably exactly what i said before. Rename or delete the file: /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
No harm will be done, all the script does is replace the stock recovery on boot if it finds that a non-stock one is present. You can do this with ES File explorer, FX or whatever file manager you please (or terminal if you know how).

[Q] P6800 ROM Questions

Recently I hard-bricked my Tab whilst installing a Rom on it (Brick Bug). Now I have a replacement, and it's about time I replaced the HC with something else.
I plan to use the 'Singha ROM ICS P6800DXLP7' ROM and ' Dedraks' GT-P6800' kernel. I'm guessing installation for both is via CWM, but that is how I bricked my tab last time. How can I work around this as to not brick it again? Odin? Which do I install first? Any guidance would really be appreciated!
Thanks
Which cwm you using that cause it to brick?
Share some detail procedure...wipe on stock rom, custom rom, kernel...etc which end with brick?
For now I believe safe atm..
- From stock ICS
- Root with this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849235
- Install cwm using Mobile Odin
- Boot to cwm recovery
- Flash custom rom and custom kernel
- Reboot recovery NOT reboot system.
- Full wipe and fix permission
- Reboot system to home screen
That what I always do
Here's what works for me
first, d/l CWM to SD card.
then power down.
reboot into download mode ,PC Odin is my install of choice for the roms...
then power down again after the new rom installs and re-boots
re-boot into recovery and choose install zip from SD and choose CWM (which is a temporary install)
dont wipe anything, just choose to install zip and then choose your new kernel.
After kernel (a safe one) installs, then re-boot system.
Ive never bricked this tab or my GN7000 Note
good luck
correct me if im wrong, but as long as you do not factory reset in stock ics recovery you are okay. Right?
Some Note GT 7000 guys reported that they bricked their phablets by copping large files (being on ICS). If this doesn't affect our P6800s, then you are not wrong.
I had installed LQ2 without wiping anything. But had many Screen Offs and Shut Downs, so I considered to risk the clean install.
Did it with Mobile Odin Pro, but first
Ensured that I already have CWM 6.0.0.1
Flashed Dedraks Kernel.
In Mobile Odin chosen "open file..." and then the particular md5 file,
BUT EXCLUDED:
1. Kernel
2. Recovery
Then I selected "wipe" and "clean", crossed my fingers and everything went OK.
Not quite everything, because I lost root, although I am pretty sure that I did not unselect "everroot'.
It was not a big issue. Installed again "root.zip" via CWM recovery.
Its about a week since then and I have nothing to complain.
...
Thanks for the responses guys.
Does this sound safe?:
Flash LQ2 via PC Odin
Root from universal recovery
Flash CWM 6.0.11 via PC Odin
Flash Dedraks Kernel via CWM
Then root again if needed.
Thanks

Stuck on Samsung logo screen after flashing bootloader!

Hey guys,
I was previously on xtresolite 2.4 lollipop rom and saw that he had a new rom out based on Marshmellow 6.01.
The instructions for the installation the new rom said to flash the new bootloader, modem and recovery before installing the new rom.
I flashed the bootloader with Odin using the BL button as instructed and how it's stuck on the Samsung Screen. I can still boot into download mode, but that's about it. It won't let me boot into recovery. Doing a bit of research it says to boot into download warning screen and cancel. Then quickly do the recovery buttons (volup, home, power), but it still won't go in.
So now I'm stuck! i'm trying to download the new stock Marshmellow firmware to see if I can install that, but aside from that I'm not sure what else I can do.
Any suggestions? Since I'm still able to use Odin, can I try to re-install the correct bootloader or is that too late? I'm not even sure which bootloader to install now. :crying::crying::crying:
Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks,
kc
as long as you can boot into the download mode, everything's alright. try flashing the latest stock rom for your model. then a new recovery, and then the new xtrestolite rom.
if something fails. do it again.... flash the latest stock rom, and so on.
Just make sure you have the correct model software for your phone and there won't be any issues. Did you backup your imei way back when you rooted on lollipop? If you did then everything will be fine if you didn't, Restore stock ROM and root, then backup your imei, hopefully you won't have any issues with your modem
Try pressing on power + vol down untill the phone shuts down then quickly press home+power+vol up before the phone starts . you will be in recovery try a factory reset then wait for the first boot. Voila !
hey all, just wanted to update. I still couldn't get into recovery, but was able to flash the stock rom and it's working as stock right now. Been using it for the past week or so and no major issues noted. I'm a bit scared to mess around again
Now that I'm on stock Marshmallow 6.0.1 rom, do I still need to try and flash the modem and boot loader for it?
Also, now that i'm on stock do I need to unroot again to install the twrp recovery? or can I just go into odin and flash it right away?
Thanks again for the help and suggestions!!!

Stock rom overrides everything so your root is long gone & you now have the latest bootloader & modem already - don't stress & no need to do anything else! If you want custom recovery simply flash with latest TWRP using Odin in download mode (in tar format using AP button). Don't root with TWRP if asked to - instead download latest recovery flash-able SuperSU (ZIP) onto your device & then flash it using TWRP. This will be the safest option for you (with root if you want).
AFAIK one always uses the "AP" button if you wanna flash <anything> with Odin - not the BL button (I've never used this). The rest are for pro's only (of which I'm not one). I'm simply a regular rom flasher & read/study/compare several guides before attempting anything I've never done before with my device. If the overall feeling is not a good one, rule of thumb is I don't proceed until I feel confident enough about what I'm attempting to do.
Good luck.
On my sm-G920I
I flashed the xtresolite ROM without first flashing the bootloader and modem and it worked fine for me, if you back up everything with an otg cable onto a USB then flash the ROM everything should work fine but you will have to wait around 5 minutes for it to boot. If your still waiting after 10-20 minutes then you did something wrong and you can just wipe your entire phone then recover everything from your backup on your USB ????????

How do i flash recovery for the gt-p5110?

Dear xda community,
I recently have been given a gt-p5110 to play around with.
Sadly i have not succeed in flashing a rom onto it...
I have some basic knowledge on flashing rom's but so far I hadn't had much luck...
I plan on flashing slimrom7 but I can't even get a proper recovery flashed...
I have tried flashing TWRP recovery using ODIN.
Even tough it says that the recovery is flashed successfully it doesn't appear to be working...
I also tried using ADB but I couldn't maintain a stable connection...
Hopefully someone is able to help me!
Kind regards,
Kevin Jansen.
After flashing with Odin you need to directly boot into TWRP, else stock rom restores stock recovery at boot.
How?

Thanks for your reply,
How would I do this??
And do you know where I can find the original stock rom + recovery in case I would like to restore it to stock?
Kind regards,
Kevin Jansen.
Uncheck auto reboot in Odin.
After flashing wait 1 minute.
Disconnect your tablet from PC.
Boot recovery.
That's it
Stock firmware (.tar.md5) most of the time includes stock recovery.img. the .tar.md5 can be flashed with odin too.
you should find stock firmware here for your Device: http://samsung-updates.com
