[Q] Simultaneous keypress - T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

Hi. Got Sidekick 4G a week ago and really like this phone so far, but there is one problem: system detects only 2 simultaneously pressed keys on qwerty-keyboard. Problem appears in 16-bit console games emulators, where I have to press 3 buttons at a time. Is that impossible on this device? It only detects 2 buttons and ignores 3rd press. I'm wondering, is this a hardware issue, or possibly could be fixed by firmware? I'm using GenericGinger 4.1
Thanks.

You're dealing with a hardware issue there.
The only other keys the device can register with two keys depressed are the hardware buttons that line the outside of the device (home, menu, jump, camera, and volume).
You can use this to your advantage.
One solution would be to map the back key to something else and map the back key where the jump key currently is.
That way, you will be able to press the trackpad and the (former) back key with your right thumb.
It's a huge tradeoff and I wouldn't do it, but it will provide a natural feeling game controller.
You could take it a step further and also remap the menu button as well..
Unfortunately, these new touchscreen phones do not have the d-pad the Danger Hiptop did. It sure makes designing software a pain in the ***.

It doesn't seems to be working either: when I'm holding two keys on qwerty keyboard and press Back key, nothing's nappening. So no matter what keys, only two keyspresses can be detected at a time. But thanks for reply anyway.

Function buttons stopped working on my HTC

So just today I go to make a phone call (HTC P4000 - Canadian CDMA Titan) by hitting the button and nothing happened. I reboot, again nothing happened. I did not make any software changes or drop the phone at all yesterday. It just randomly stopped working. After further testing, the jog wheel works (along with the click on the jog wheel), the directional pad in the middle of buttons below screen (along with the click) works, and the power button on the side (to turn screen off, or hold to be prompted for reboot) works. Everything else does not: the IE and messaging button at the top above the screen, the 2 function keys below the screen, as well as the windows and OK button below that. ALSO along the sides of the phone all buttons do not work (comm manager, camera, voice record, ok.... power does work though keep in mind).
Does this sound like a physical issue or possible software or OS corruption of some sort? What is bizarre to me is that the OK button along the side works, yet the button right below it (comm manager) does not work. It would make sense that this button (the power) would be wired differently as it's more essential i suppose. What are your thoughts? Anything I should try or does this sound 100% like hardware... if it is that's ok cuz I have a warranty through my carrier for the entire length of my contract. Thanks for any tips or advice in advance!
have you tried a hard reset yet worked for me one time with those issues

Any software to remap hardware keys?

Is there any software out there right now that can remap the hardware keys easily so that when a key is pressed the applications on the device think it's another key? (for example, holding the Volume Down key makes applications think you're holding down the * key on a phone keypad).
Therefore I can use it to map *, 8, 6, 9, 1 and 0 keys onto a phone without a keypad and play games that require more than the 4 direcitonal keys and center key.
So annoying knowing that you have hardware keys that aren't being used by the game but you don't have the keys the game needs... (yes, no, volume up, volume down, gps and browser key... enough to play the game... though not the keys that game wants)
SortInchKey... it's kinda hard to setup, but it will do what you need....good luck
Can you share how you can set it up? I am looking for this but totally confused by the screen.
Take a look at this one....should serve your purpose.

well the best way in my experience is to use resco registry editor, for example i change my left soft key to "new sms" so when i click it it pops open a new sms message window, look into that if you'd like
Also make sure you check out my dedicated bible in the Wiki.

About touch-sensitive buttons!

Nowadays we see more new devices equipped with touch-sensitive buttons (non-hardware buttons). I sometimes wonder if these touch-sensitive button actually are prone to a accidental touch (or press). If yes, they are, then does it mean that it's better to have hardware buttons instead?
I'm a bit confused regarding these kind of buttons. What do you think about this?
I used to have an HTC Magic, but now I'm using an LG Eve, and I seriously miss those hardware buttons... I constantly accidentally press the back and home keys, closing whatever I'm currently doing, or occasionally the won't respond at all, and I press them three or four times before they actually do something. Also, a trend I've noticed looking at the phones coming out, many phones with capacitive buttons seem to be missing the important ones, like the dial button, the end button, and the search button. Also, watch out for the type of trackpad. On my Magic I had a trackball, which is fairly standard, but the Eve has just a button that acts as a menu button, no scrolling possible. Look really carefully at the input methods when choosing a phone.
I've had some bad experiences with touch sensitive buttons. As jascayne says, I constantly pressed the buttons accidentally (motorola droid).
So I should never go for a phone with touch sensitive buttons.
So so, this means touch-sensitive buttons aren't reliable. next time when I buy a phone I'll pay attention to the type of buttons.
Exactly.

[Q] Question about touch buttons.

I've remapped some of the touch buttons to control buttons in emulators (ex: In a NES emulator, Search is A, Back is B.
The buttons work, however, when I press them they "disable" the screen and vice-versa. I'm thinking this is by design so you don't accidentally press a button while using the screen.
What I'm wondering is, does anyone know of a way to disable this?
I'm also trying to do it for SCUMMVM since many games are hard to play without right click. Right clicking is done by holding down the search button and then tapping the screen. And the Triumph only seems to let you use either the screen or the touch buttons, not both at the same time.
The phone is rooted by the way.
Thanks for any info!

Power button dead - T/C possible?

Hi all,
So it's a few days the power button seems to be kaput! The phone only wakes up by removing and re-inserting the battery and after the screen turns off there is no way to turn it on again (unless I receive a call for example). So first I thought I'd just replace the power key as I thought it would be just a clip-on circuit but no! it's soldered to the main board.
Right, next thought was to look whether Touch Control / Sweep 2 Wake-Sleep etc. is possible. I've used this feauture on newer Nexus devices so hoped something would be available for poor old I9023 as well. However, bponury's T/C app is not available for Nexus S and I can't seem to find any S2W/S2S kernel either. It's a long time since I was following Nexus S development closely so is there something similar that will allow me to not throw away the phone or am I looking in vain?
Thanks!
Use volume rocker to wake phone and remap the search button for power

Volume Rocker Wake should be a custom rom's option I suppose? I will look into it.
Regarding remapping search button, I've searched at Play for "button remap" but seems this kind of apps have disappeared! Any link?

This might be sort of an overkill solution....
Install SlimBean 4.2.2 ROM. It has volume rocker wake AND button remapping.
I've been using the ROM since months and haven't used the power button at all.
