Worried about bricking you device?? Not any more. - Android General

Hello guys i know you are all worried about bricking your device.
Today i will share with you guys the possible causes to brick it from my own experience.
Soft-brick
you will have a soft bricked device if you interupt flashing your device with odin and it fixable.
All what do you have to do is go back to download mode and reflash it.
Hard-brick
you can hard brick your device by interrupt flashing it also or trying to install cwm from rom manager just for some device like galaxy mini.
Or you can hard brick it if you flash it with another android rom.
It s fixable too but you need LJAG. Not every body know about it so just take it to the near store or what ever and they will fix it to you. It cost over 25$
You can guys post other possible causes.
If i helped you push the thanks button

[Q] Bricked my device! Help

I was using my Samsung Galaxy mini ( GT-S 5570) and was using ROM manager (free) on it.
When it asked for my device.. In my desperation I chose Huawei Pulse mini. No problem. After that.. I selected 'Back up current ROM'
When I did that my phone's screen went blank.
I could not boot. I took the battery out and tried. No success.
So I connected it to my PC. The Samsung Kies software detects the phone but cannot identify it so can't upgrade firmware or anything.
I have tried all combinations to boot into recovery mode. No success.
Is there any way I could get my phone back?
Help! I really need this!

No other way? I really don't wanna do that. :\
Plus.. I had rooted my phone. My warranty is void.
I think you are kinda screwed..
Warranty void, I dont think theres a way to fix this on your own
Is there an equivalent of download mode and ODIN/Heimdall flashable stock ROM for your device?
I have a Samsung Galaxy S variant - T-Mo Vibrant, and the download mode + heimdall took me and a few of my friends out of a tight corner quite a few times.
I have the exact same problem. Odin detects my phone..but when i tried doing a pone package install, it gets stuck at "connection setup...".
I experienced the same thing as you experienced, already three days I tried to solve the problem but still can not, sha no intention to go to him tomorrow samsung sad day my heart
Get a phone insurance, then dump it in the bath for half an hour
Jokes aside, if you were able to do a quality brick, perhaps they might not be able to find out what happened?
What do you guys think about that, can he get his phone fixed under warranty
hi...
i have a Galaxy Mini S5570 or Pop.
after i used Rom Manager and backup ROM, i figured i had chose the wrong ROM
and overwrite on my ROM.
Now my phone in bad Hard Brick.
no response, cannot combo and always black.
i been searching high and low for solution and tried many.
also done the soldering part but still cannot.
could someone tell me what should i do?
my only solution is send back to Samsung service?
please let me know. appreciate and thanks.
but i guess the last resort is to send to samsung.
because once you accidently flash a rom not meant for the phone.
the hardware may work abnormal way that cause the hardware shorted
or damage.
then this damage is not revisible.
therefore only solution is to change the damage part....
now waiting for tomorrow to get the phone back from local phone repair,
and send to samsung.... no choice.
or.... if anyone have new method / attempt to try on my own???
I have the same problem.TT
use this link.. may help you...

Well that's the reason why you need to read first and set your expectations that this might happen... If you read and carefully understand the methods of rooting/installing custom roms then you will be safe.

Failed to flash, phone dead.

Good day people,
First of all. I want to say that I am aware of the forums regulations and that I have to use the search function before even creating a topic but I found nothing related to my situation.
A few days ago ( 3 ) I tried to flash my Samsung Galaxy SL i9003 with a the following ROM I9000XXJVU_I9000OXAJVU_OXA. Bare with me before saying that it's not compatible because it is a i9000 ROM. Which I wasn't aware of due to my foolishness at the beginning. I did not even bother to look for any consequences of what could happen of a unsuccessful ROM flash.
After flashing my phone with the i9000 ROM, odin said everything was successful, my phones screen turned bright light green. I turned the phone off and plugged out the cable. As far as I'm concerned, on the Q&A it said that flashing i9003 with a i9000 rom it would brick the phone. But this isn't the case. When I try to power the phone, it doesn't power at all, no signs of life. No button combination work. I have tried to make a custom JIG for it, using the 301k/300k Ohm resistor method, unsuccessful. Can any of you provide any information of how do I proceed? Maybe it is the batteries fault? I don't know. If the only option is warranty repair, I have broken the given rules and it will be most likely voided. Does any of you know what could I say ( lie ) to not get it voided?

I am glad at least u are aware of wrong rom flashing. Anyway ur phone is dead now. Simple solution is go to samsung service center & tell them a fake reason such as while updating ur phone via kies ur phone switched off automatically. Purposefully tell them that there is no fault from ur side. Never tell them that u have attempted to flash anything from odin. Thats all They will surely take ur phone & they will repair it without any cost.
But be carefully from next time. Have a habit of read everything before flashing anything
Adding a little thing.

That IS a brick, and that is the correct meaning of the word.
A soft brick is when you flash a firmware and it boots to the SL logo, a hard brick (yours) is where the phone dies completely.
Just wanted to clear this
And you can give JTAG a go, search for somebody that offers it first.

Actually your phone is not void of its warranty for you didn't even root the phone. So warranty is still intact. You just have to come up with an excuse.

[Q] Need help with p920

Hi,
I have a problem. After 3 months of using my p920 i started having a problem when connecting to the pc via usb it would alwasy try to install drivers but never connect and then ai checked device manager and saw that the phone is flashing (recognized/ unrecognized). i need to repair it but first i need to get back stock recovery(CWM at the moment) and unroot the phone to get gurantee support. I was told that its a faulty system chip and they would fix it, but for the guarantee to work i need to get the things i mentioned before done. I have solution for the unroot but for the recovery i need a lg 920 stock-recovery.img file to flash the recovery.
can anyone help me get it or do you have any other solution?
I did not understand your problem . But here is what you want , the stock recovery :-

I know about that tool and i would use it under normal conditions but the problem is I can not connect the phone to the Computer. everything must be done from my phone without connecting to a pc that is why i have found an app which can flash a recovery if its in a .img file and that is what i need to get the stock recovery back. i need a .img file containing the stock recovery to flash it from my sd card not using a pc.
i hope i made my problem clearer.
P.S. i have tried to install cm7 and others with cwm, but the problem remains that i can not connect to pc. i cant update OTA or connect to pc because it is not possible.

Bricked A110 - Calling for help

Hi Guys,
Calling for help,
Post flashing new ROM, android device has got bricked (no offence to ROM, I’m sure it’s just my ignorance that has caused it).
Device isn’t responding, tried flashing SP tool, installed drive devices no luck what so ever, in fact SP tool doesn’t detect the device. As an alternate downloaded volcano & Miracle app just to realise that he does require hardware, which i don’t own.
Now before banging my head to the near wall , can somebody please advise if there is anything else i should give it as a try?
Any thoughts/suggestion would be appreciated. It has been 2 frustrating days since trying to jig with the device in bricked condition.
Thanks in advance
:fingers-crossed:

Yaar, you have 13 post of which none for brick.I suppose your are referring to this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2376667) which is for soft brick. Hard brick implies your phone cant be turned on.
If im wrong than i would request you to share the thread which are referring to.
thanks in advance.

[Completed] Galaxy A5 (SM-A500FU) HARD BRICKED please help pls

Hello. Today I tried to downgrade my phone I don't know what was I thinking, but I installed lost of custom ROMs before and stock firmwares too with Odin, so i kinda know how flashing works so I never thought it will be a problem. But after odin successfully flashed my 4.4.4 firmware onto my A5 i restarted the phone, and it wont power up, go into recovery or download mode, or EVEN CHARGE!! it's practically completely dead. Can someone tell me what should I do considering the fact that this is a unibody phone so very hard to cut the power off AND not very much development for it, i can't find debrick images or anything. Somebody knows what should I do? Thank you very much. Oh, and I can't get it to service because of the fact that the screen glass it's a bit shattered its out of warranty so I can't tell them its not my fault and tell them to replace the device. Thanks again.
