I was experiencing some "fc" issues with Wifi calling. I realized they had started after updating the host files for Adfree. So out of curiosity, I decided to test this out. I uninstalled Adfree and Wifi Calling started working as normal again. I re installed Adfree, and wifi calling still continued to function fine...... until I updated the host files.... The force closing began yet again. And when I uninstalled Adfree, WC started working fine again. So I left AF off. But even after leaving it off, I noticed that I still wasn't seeing ads on apps that normally had them. I rebooted my phone a couple of times to see if the ads would return, but they're still not there [even with Adfree uninstalled]. So I wondered if the Cm7 builds had ad blocking baked in, and if maybe installing AF was creating a conflict within my device. I don't know if that's even possible, but that's all I could come up with.
Sorry for the long post. There's not really a big issue here. I was just curious.
Try using AdAway instead. I had the same issue on my G2x with AdFree and Wifi calling.

Well ads still aren't showing up, so I might now need to do anything. But if that changes, I'll definitely keep that in mind. Thanks!

Ok, I just updated my nightly and the ads are back, so I'll be giving this a go now lol

Not sure if that this is a politically correct topic. Like many, I have used some ad blocking techniques. They no longer seem effective. Anyone else notice this?
Any thoughts beyond adfree? I have seen some host lists uploaded here and there throughout the site. How are you blocking ads?
Yeah I might have noticed this... not really sure why or what's happening. Wish I knew.

So it's not just me...
I imagine AdFree will release an update soon that will fix the issue.
Yeah I dunno what's going on. I was using adfree and that stopped working on both stock as well as cm7 I also installed that flashable zip file for the hosts file that was on here somewhere, I don't remember where, but that's not working either. Also all of the programs that this isn't working for, it started with updates to those programs like two or three weeks ago.

I had stumbled across a post stating that you can remove the file Tetheringmanager 1.03.26 you can tether on the Infuse. I decided to try it out but instead of removing, I froze it. It worked flawlessly. Only problem is that I'm scared AT&T is going to see it that way haha. I've been tethering using Wifi Tether and it work great but I ran into a few issues, but that's another thread lol. I guess what I'm trying to see is if there is anything bad about freezing the app.
Thanks
Tommy

Basically every alternate ROM (Bionix, Infused 1.x, Refuse) removed this APK. No problems at all.
Ok so when I was tethering on my Inspire via the Leedroid rom it did this also?

No clue how the Inspire works in regards to tethering.
I know that native Android tethering works great without any bigbrotherware on all of the non-stock ROMs available for it.
Well, wifi tethering at least - for USB tethering, there's a bunch of flaky crap in the Samsung kernels because of Samsung's stupid NIH (Not Invented Here) attitude.
Ok cool so if I freeze that file I'm good to go with the native tethering?

This helped my problem too, thanks
Sometimes wifi tethering is inconsistent for me too. I usually try switching profiles between generic ics to galaxy nexus cdma/lte.
Also lately I've been using the widget to switch on and off tethering rather than opening up the app and so far its been working more consistently

yeah i've been getting random lag spikes/dc's for like 20 seconds. Pretty annoying wish i knew how to fix it
I have this on my Photon Q, and for some reason, some days it works fine, and stays connected, and other days my computer will connect to the wifi tethering of my phone, then after about 1 min it will disconnect. Its not my computer, it is the phone, the phone stops broadcasting with the tethering app.
Does anyonw know a fix for this? Yesterday i stayed connected without issue, but the day before, I fought with it all day long trying to keep it connected. I either have to restart wifi tether, or sometimes I actually have to restart the phone.
I know this i an issue with the phone, but I wonder if some setting in my computer is making the phone disconnect?
Also, if anyone has any better tethering apps, please let me know.
Have you tried an app like "KeepConnOn"?
No I will check into that thank you
I use trev e mod. So far works flawless.

I did not come up with mod. So I'm not taking credit for it. All I know is that it's somewhere on xda. A buddy of mine sent me the apks. Sprint has blocked almost all the tethering apps from market.
Sent from my XT897 using xda premium
ah yeah, i've seen treve around before. he created some apps to identify and disable logging added in by the carriers, etc. thanks for the tip, PdaNet works well for usb tethering, but it's nice to have a wifi option too.
Here is the link to the trev mod in xda--http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1988735
Only thing though this is the same as wifi tether for root users and i downloaded mine from the play store. The one above i believe you have to install busybox and the one from the market you don't.

I dowloaded the app from the link above. Tried changing a few setting but still no luck. Turn on the wifi tether, laptops sees hotspot, connects, but when i try to browse my carrier pops up requesting me to pay. How do i bypass this? My Photon Q is unlocked and rooted.

In the settings did you change device profile to ics/jb generic wlan0. I don't really touch to much after that and it works fine for me. Who is your carrier?

CSPIRE. It's unlimited but not video streaming wich is kinda dumb that they changed it. Thanks I'm gonna give that a try when i get home. I'm hoping to learn more about kernels so I can stop CSPIRE from blocking me.
I have downloaded the trev e mod, and so far it is working great for me. Thanks for the info and the link!
my phone stopped broadcasting its wifi when I use wireless tether trev E mod lastnight for some reason. I habe reinstalled and changed settings around and everything. Anyone know a fix for this?
Any idea why after some time (30min aprox) the tethering trev shuts down by self?
How can I fix that?

I don't know if you have found a fix for this or not but here is a link to the version that I have and I have never had any problems from it.

If the play store doesn't work just click the "here" and it will dwnload directly to you phone.

I use Barnacle for wifi tethering myself. Seems like sprint throttles the connection when the phone sleeps though, setting 'stay awake' under the development settings page might help.

thanks!

Is this a custom rom or stock rom? If it's a custom rom, I suggest you try flashing a different one to see if the problem persists

yeah I'm at home, it's only with my Wi-Fi. my friend who came over yesterday and also uses snapchat said it didn't refresh their feed either. I tried using a vpn on my phone to see if it works, and it did, so Idk what's going on with my Wi-Fi/ip/whatever :/
Try the usual reboot router, update firmware if possible. You could also try selecting 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz in your phone's advanced WiFi settings.

Me too
For the record, I am having this exact same problem. I have a Nexus 4 running an unrooted stock ROM.
i have this too
Hi guys. Im just wondering if any of you have a solution to this. I have the exact same problem. I actually reset my modem/router and snapchat worked for a couple minutes until it stopped again. Somethings is really weird.
Thanks for reply.

In my case, the snapchat stoped working after I downloaded an app called Savemysnaps. Apparently, snapchat now blocks my IP adress. I just installed an app Hotspot shield VPN and snapchat works again on my wifi
