I'm upgrading tonight and finally ditching the Droid X. I'm either getting the HTC Rezound or the Droid Razr Maxx. Both have tons of pros and cons. I need your opinions. Please help!

razr maxx, the phone is actually amazing and the battery lasts as long as your grandma's brick phone.

I would suggest to wait it out and take a look at the Incredible 4G or whatever variant of the SIII Verizon gets. Also take a look in the marketplace, sometimes you can get a Maxx or Rezound for around $300 which .. well the phone on a contract is like $200 then you can save your upgrade for later

Razr Maxx all the way. The battery life is amazing.

Is it easy to root the maxx? Or has Motorola made it a pain in the ass to deal with the bootloader?

So why isn't the Thunderbolt a DROID?

Has anyone seen the adds for the Charge? It's claiming it's the first DROID on Verizon infused with 4G. I thought that was the Thunderbolt. So what technically makes an android phone a DROID?

I'd say money and contracts. Verizon initially had the Motorola DROID and HTC DROID Eris, then the HTC DROID Incredible, along with other Motorola variations of the DROID. Now it's Samsung's turn at getting the DROID label. Maybe HTC decided it wasn't worth the extra premium to slap the label onto the Thunderbolt.
Of course, this is purely speculation on my part.

its just a special name for certain verizon phones. it technically is the first droid with 4g since the thunderbolt doesnt have the droid name. theres really nothing special about a phone having the droid name. i thought wen the og droid came out maybe the verizon droid phones will have stock android since the og droid did. but once the eris, incredible, x and then the 2 came out i was obviously incorrect.

Because the tb isnt a POS? I was using the charge and it was terrible :/ ... tbolt ftw!
Also would you have have Droid Mecha or the Thunderbolt?
Though... the first 1 sounds better xD, also the droid branding isnt my fav compared to stock htc stuff
Kind of like the Evo series on sprint.. Verizon has their Droid series

New sub-forum for the Droid Mecha.
Likely the TB doesn't carry the Droid moniker because HTC didn't want to pay George Lucas the licensing fees to use the name
I thought anything Blur based was givin' the "Droid" name. Could be wrong.

Droid is a brand name used by Verizon. It has nothing to do with blur. The og Droid was a Google Expierence device. The Droid Eris, and Incredible ran sense, Droids D2, and X ran motoblur, and Droid charge runs touchwiz.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
The Droid name is to help market a device. The Charge needs the Droid moniker to make it seem like a different beast than other phones and push it better. The Thunderbolt is an HTC made device and is Verizon's first 4G device. It doesn't need the Droid name, it'd be a waste of resources.
Sent from my ADR6400L
I've always thought that the Droid name was given to top tier Verizon Android phones that are exclusive to VZW in the US.. For example, the Fascinate was certainly one of the best Android phones on Verizon when it was released, but it was also on every other carrier.
The Droid Charge is unique to Verizon.
The TBolt is pretty much an Evo 4G with LTE.
The Charge doesn't seem worthy of the DROID name, IMHO.
Maybe OT but, I personally hate it when people refer to ANY Android phone as a "Droid". It gets my blood boiling for some reason...

Thinking about a Thunderbolt

I've had the thunderbolt but once I bought the Rezound I sold the thunderbolt but kinda want it back so I have both or should I wait and see if HTC releases another HTC phone on Verizon?? Just want to have choices in what phone I carry.

I personally would hold off and see what they come out with next year - waiting always pays off, especially when having to keep that same device for 20 months until you can upgrade. Also taking into consideration that they are making phones with a lot better batteries too.
Ya I know I jump on the Thunderbolt wagon quick now I have the Rezound but I want a backup Thunderbolt.

I have both the incredible and now the thunderbolt. I still have not decided which one I am going to use but the thunderbolt is very nice.
I am going to pick up a rezound battery and see how it runs compared to the incredible.
If you can pick up a thunderbolt on the used market fairly cheap I say go for it.

Thunderbolt is the best phone on the market still, IMO. The gigantic community backing it makes it better than anything else out there. Unbelievably tweakable and customizable. Great ROMs and great kernels.

I'm the same way with HTC. I had an Eris, Incredible (wife's), Thunderbolt, and now an Incredible 2. I love the Thunderbolt but I wanted something with more development and LTE is still abut 10 miles from me. I did buy a Rezound battery for it and I'm currently using it as a little ICS tablet. I might sell it but I might end up regretting it.

Just got rid of my bolt a few days ago. I came really close to deciding to throw it against a brick wall instead of selling it. I hate it that much. Got the GS2, I absolutely love it.
I am on the Thunderbolt for the 3rd time now. I have had the Nexus, Rezound and the Razr Maxx. The only phone I liked better than the Thunderbolt is the Razr Maxx. I think I will get the Razr Maxx again but I will keep the Thunderbolt around for my second phone!

One X vs Atrix HD

I recently purchased the Atrix HD from Best Buy. I love the phone, as coming from the Original Atrix, but it has a sub-par camera. I was thinking of exchanging it for this phone because of the camera. The one thing I do not like about the One X is there is no microsd slot. I was just wondering if you guys had any opinions of what I should do. Thanks in advance.

Yeah...the no microsd is a bummer but if you can get past that the Hox IMO is better in pretty much every department
yeah didnt like the one x because it didnt have a micro sd card either, but i also have a galaxy tab 2 7.0 with that option
and i realize i have the same usual stuff i have on both, in other words i didnt really need the extra storage
who knows, maybe you'll grow past it and wont need it
on the other note, you do have 4g speed to stream almost anything and drop box
I exchanged my Atrix HD for a HOX and I don't regret it one bit. I get better battery life on the HOX than I did on the Atrix HD. The camera on the HOX is also much better than the camera on the Atrix HD.
I say go for it

That is why I did not want to return it. It by far was the closest to stock fir a branded phone. The cons of the phone were just too much for me to keep it. I loved the design of it but the fact the locked bootloader did not let me root the phone, killed the experience. It seemed a root was not coming any time soon. Hopefully this will not be the case.

stick with the HD
I have been debating the same thing. I am going to stick to my Atrix HD. Motorola has better signal integrity than any other phone I know, it is solid and has the gorilla glass and the kevlar. Also the extra storage is a big plus. I also like the ICS from motorola vs the HTC.

I had this same decision about a month ago and the rooting bit was what sold me on the HOX (among other things).
ICS is good, and clearly Motorola has toned down their version of it, but it is not Jellybean. While Jellybean doesn't seem like much of an improvement, I've found it to be significantly better than ICS. Android still has some work to do in the polish department, and JB has made it much better. Plus, rooting allows you to be on the latest version of Android, as Atrix HD users will probably only get Jellybean once Key Lime Pie comes out.
I'm in the same boat at the moment as well. I have an unlocked mint condition Atrix HD I just picked up a week ago. I'm using it with Tmobile and am enjoying the fast 4G speeds however now that I've seen the One X, I'm interested in trying that phone out as well.
Do you guys think its worth the hassle of swapping my phone for the One X?
My sister just upgraded to the ahd from the original atrix against my recommendation. I toyed with it for a few minutes and i wasnt that impressed its not as smooth as my hox was stock. But to each his own. Again keep in mind that if you get the hox see what software version it is. If its 2.20 then there is currently no root for it.

HTC ONE S vs RAZR HD

I'm on the lookout for a new phone, and just wondering which of these two to get.
One s pros: build quality, size, development?
RAZR HD: battery life, micro sd
Thanks

Can't say much about the HTC other than I hate Sense. Motos Blur is as close to pure AOSP as you are going to get on a non nexus phone. I can say that my RAZR MAXX HD is by far the best phone that I have ever owned. The battery life alone accounts for most of my pleasure as well as the build quality. The combination of kevlar , metal and gorilla glass make it a no need for a case phone. Development is finally heating up so fully functional AOSP is just around the corner.

That's me. The last HTC phone that I owned was the OG Evo4g. Sense was so overly bloated that the phone could barely operate for 4 hours with it. I did not use close to a quarter of the crap that it had preloaded. I would hope that they have worked on trimming that beast down over the years.

Well I guess bloatware is one of the reasons we root in the first place. My friends have both the RAZR HD and the one s, and there is no difference on speed as far I can tell. Sense has come a long way. The RAZR got jellybean a few months ago right?

Looks like the One S has a better camera and speakers. The RAZR MAXX HD has a bigger and better screen with higher resolution. The battery is double the size of One S. Internal memory and SD support are also a plus for the RAZR MAXX HD.
Guess it all comes down to what you want your phone to do.

I guess so. I have Ord, Rom updating disorder, so development is pretty important. Of course, the sd card helps a lot. How is development so far, stable cm?
Sent from my HTC Desire C using xda app-developers app
It's come a long way. Some amazing devs have just recently unlocked the bootloader without the support of Motorola. Now Hash and Byte are working on a custom kernel for AOSP. It appears that the kernel is nearly complete. There are some 4.2 ROMs floating around but they are suffering from lacking a completed kernel. Once that kernel drops, I'd imagine the devs will have us on official support from the likes of Cm, AOKP and etc...
...
I've had a One S and now the Razr HD. The HD all the way I'd say. No sd slot is a deal breaker and only 16gigs of storage. Depends where you live but the HD has far better signal reception. The reason why I got rid of the one S. Other than that most of of what has already been said applies.

I left the s4 and couldn't be happier. This phone will probably not get the recognition that it deserves because of the X but it should be considered the best at the moment. I don't believe anyone will be able to top this because they are all fighting over who has the biggest cpu and not who can actually match the iPhone. This phone does match it. You have to own it to know what I mean.

Well worth the upgrade. I jumped from my Rezound to the Mini and I don't have a bad thing to say about it. My battery life is insane (spent a whole day Trying to kill it and only managed to drop it to 43%), super quick, good feel, and clean interface. I pretty much love this phone. Since the Mini is essentially the same thing as the Maxx and Ultra I'd say all three likely rock.
