With so many requests on here re reverting to stock rom I figured this might be of interest to some users who find the RUU download/install a bit of a drag.
It’s simply a CWM ext3 tar nandroid backup (factory reset/airplane mode & debugging on) from my Vodafone UK/Ireland branded device prior to Superuser root installation i.e. stock apart from the CWM recovery image flash. After extracting, the backup can be restored with CWM or 4Ext and, whilst it includes my custom recovery.img, this never restores on my device. I’ve also linked to the recovery image extracted from a stock RUU which can be flashed via adb-recovery:
fastboot flash recovery c:\recovery.img (this command when the recovery.img is placed on c: drive, as I use the bare adb-fastboot utility, because I’ll probably never use most of the full sdk package which takes up lots of space on my pc).
After restoring the backup, then flashing the stock recovery, I see no reason why my device won’t be able to receive the ICS ota update, and hopefully it won’t be long before it’s put to the test.

hi all,
first sorry of this has been put in the wrong section.
I have a orange branded desire s which i have had for some time and would now like to to play with custom roms or at least get the new standard rom so i can get sense 3.
i have a xtc clip so have s-off as of yesterday. but trying to root using gingerbreak 1.2 today it just runs and runs.
search around this maybe linked to me having the ota update from some time back
can anyone advise what i should try next. ideally i would like to backup current rom before flashing.
below are details from boot and software screens if it helps.

If you used XTC then you don't need to bother about getting rooted to start with!
You will need to initially flash the ENG (engineering bootloader) see this thread over your existing one.
Then you aiming to install a custom recovery CWM (clockworkmod) which you can do by following the steps in my signature this will enable you to flash a pre-rooted custom ROM.
You'll need to download and extract the adb&fastboot exe's onto a directory on your PC.
install the HTC drivers onto your PC
then follow the steps within the Flash CWM & su via fastboot
At this point you should be able to take a backup of your original ROM (albeit now rooted) just in case you have any issues during the flashing of your first customs, you'll have a safe point to restore back to.
Now you can load a custom ROM that will be rooted.
see the various sticky threads for guides.
I'm off to bed now, but will assist if you need help still tomorrow.
thanks for reply pc watching die hard 2 so will work through your advice tomorrow

No problem, good call on the ROM only recently moved to this one myself and certainly don't have any complaints.
Would also suggest that now you're up and running it's worth switching to 4EXT recovery. It has more functionality and better support for our device even though it's still based on the solid code base of CWM!
Don't bother moving up to the latest HBOOT 2.xx.xxxx no matter what you read (not for a while anyway - just no benefit!)

And i was asking if i can root my device to miui 3.2.7? and if i need to go back to the original version just for warranty whitout any trace?
if there is posible, can someone post me the links where to do the root from and where to go bock if necesary?
10x in advance
To S-Off, follow this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194488
This guide will also teach you how to flash recovery and ROOT. As far as i know, there's no MIUI 3.2.7, give me a link and i'll tell you how to flash.
The process is reversable, i'll post the link in just a minute.
i mistype the miui is 2.3.7
ohh, that's it. Steps to flash
=> OPTIONAL Download Titanium backup from market and backup all your apps.
=> Download and transfer ROM to SD card
=> Reboot into recovery.
=> Format system, data, cache and dalvik cache.
=> Wipe data/factory reset.
=> go to Install ZIP from SDcard => Choose ZIP from SD card => Select MIUI 2.3.7
Reboot, and there you have it.
PS- In recovery, you navigate Up and Down using volume buttons, and the power button is your OK/SELECT button.
PPS - The tutorial to reverse S-OFF was removed by author Still, you can reverse it, just need to ask around when you need to. I'm pretty sure you wont

You can definitely unroot, just post another thread in the Q&A Section asking HOW TO S-ON AFTER REVOLUTIONARY S-OFF. IDK how to do this, or i'd tell you myself.
Right guys i know im new here but have a big problem. Now i got my UK Virgin Desire S and decided to root to flash custom roms.

So i used revolution to root and turn S off. I did a backup once installed.
I then flashed the ICS custom rom v4 off here and it was too buggy so decided on a standard rom (the latest i could find : RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.8_Radio_20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04_M_release_225161_signed) so thopught i could flash it straight away, so i did.
It didnt finish but flashed radio and the latest Hboot so now i am on :

So after the flash i was left with this and no rom but still had the clockwork recovery to flash custom roms but they wouldnt load due to the S-ON.
Now i have tried to flash the original restore from the backup i did but it keeps saying md5 checksum wrong, i have even flashed standard recovery rom using fastboot and tried to flash different RUU's (have downloaded and tried 6 now with failures on all of them with error 155)
Now im sure it must be something to do with the Security being on but i cant understand why it wont flash the backup i made that was off my phone in the first place. I have looked for a UK Virgin RUU with no avail so have been trying all the Europe ones.
Now i have noticed when trying to update the rom it is saying update from image : 1.47.351.2 if that helps.
Would really appreciate some help here guys and im sorry for being a noob.

With HBOOT 2.00.0002 you have to go to HTCDEV.com and follow the procedure to unlock your bootloader. Then I would suggest looking at The post on how to downgrade from HBOOT 2.00.0002.
I used One_X_All-In-One_Kit_v1.0 to install CWM then stupidly (I admit) and
drunkenly (I'm ashamed to admit) wiped data without creating a restore
point and when I flash custom ROMs and reboot my device freezes on the HTC
boot screen.
I've managed to locate my CID & MID (cid: ORANG001 & mid: PG5813000) and
have added them to the android-info.txt located in PG58IMG.zip but when I
boot into bootloader and select fastboot the update is found but parsed
rather than flashed.

Bit of a mess really. Any ideas?
If you've installed CWM for a different phone and wiped, then you're lucky it still works at all.
Install the right version of CWM right now.

It appears that you are HTC Dev unlocked. Because of that you will have to flash the boot.img via fastboot commands. Go to this guide to learn
how to do it.
But your Hboot version is supported by Revolutionary so I suggest you re lock your bootloader and then use Revolutionary to S-off your device before flashing the 3.32 firmware you will have to flash for any ICS ROM. Cause without you being S-off you will not be able to revert your firmware version. Plus if you are S-off your recovery can flash everything and you will not have to use fastboot to or Smart flash option in 4EXT.
I'm surprised your phone still works after using the One X method to root; considering the One X is a different phone.
Here the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 for reference to S-Off and stuff. I recommend you change you change your CID to 11111111 as well.
Change your recovery to 4EXT. Better in my perspective.
Firstly, thank you Rusty!, T-Macgnolia and You_got_owned123.
So, I've downloaded 4EXT recovery and will flash it and I understand that I need to be S-OFF before I can flash new firmware and if I change to Super CID I can flash any carriers firmware. But.... I need to be able to boot the phone to enable HTC Sync to run Revolution. Or is there a way to run it in Fastboot usb?
As soon as I achieved S-OFF I can change to SuperCID.
BOOM!
Okay... so, I flashed 4EXT recovery (which is much better that ClockworkMod) then flashed a Gingerbread ROM (Android_Revolution_HD-Sensation_3.6.13) as it was compatible with my existing firmware and flashed the boot.img for the 1.56 kernel then used Revolutionary tool to achieve S-OFF so I could flash an ICS ROM (Sensation_3.32.401.5_odexed), GAPPS and update the firmware. I didn't SuperCID as I knew the firmware was compatible but may do that later while it's fresh in my mind.
That wasn't so hard, phew!!!

Haha, good job. Just make sure you use the approperiate firmware when flashing ICS ROMS. ICS require a different firmware than GB does.
So I recently purchased the T-Mobile version of the HTC-Sensation... since then I've been trying to flash a custom JellyBean ROM onto my device. I've rooted and flashed custom roms on previous phones but the process for this one has been extremely confusing. I've been mainly following this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1864053 I have the bootloader unlocked and I think I have S-Off, now I'm trying to flash a recovery image with the KSG utility but gives me a bunch of error messages that say FILE NOT FOUND - FASTBOOT.LOG and ACCESS DENIED and FILE NOT FOUND - ABD.LOG. I'm sorry if this is in the forum somewhere, but I've been working on this for hours and I can't figure this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I unlocked the bootloader but got stuck trying to S-off. Everything was going fine until the part where I run the temp_root.bat because I cannot get HTC sync to recognize my phone no matter what I try. I was wondering if anyone had the original version that came on the SD card or if there is a way to gain S-off without using HTC sync? Or can I get Jellybean without gaining S-off? You are already s-off ,if you want to flash custom Rom flash 3.33 universal firmware (be careful when flashing check the md5 sum) after that flash 4ext recovery and flash new rom
Edit here is link for 3.33 firmware. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767.
sent from HTC Sensation 4G
@EmporerD
first you don't need a htc sync..
second your phone is already success s-off..you can see that in your bootloader state..
now i think maybe you already forgot the step to remove temp root from your phone after success s-off process..you can do that by running temp_root_remove.bat from the guide that you follow above..
after you had remove temp root from your phone..then you can continued to flashing a 3.33 firmware.. to do that..
just download firmware file from here....then copied that PG58IMG.zip file to the root directory of your sd card (the root directory mean is don't place it that file in any folder..just place it in your sdcard) you can copied that file with card reader..after that just put in back your sd card to the phone...then boot into bootoader..and wait until bootloader check it that file then ask you to updating it...just confirm it yes with vol up button..then wait until finish and ask you to confirm reboot with press power button..
after that you can continued installing custom recovery..
just download custom recovery.img file from here and extracted that zip file then copied that recovery.img file to your adb/sdk folder (the same place as your adb.exe and fastboot.exe folder)..then you flashing it through FASTBOOT with fastboot command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"..done..now your phone already had a custom recovery..that are can installing any custom rom...
hope this help..
THANKYOU guys. This helps a lot. I'm going to call it a night for a now, but I will try your advice tomorrow and post updates.

So I tried to remove the temproot by running the temproot-remove batch file, it didn't do anything so I downloaded the PG58IMG.zip and updated it in the bootoader, now phone is stuck in a bootloop...?
Update: I tried to continue with flashing the custom recovery, but the dialog just gets stuck on "waiting for device" ...
Update 2: Installing the older drivers for fixed the problem of flashing the recovery so my recovery works but it's still stuck in bootloop. Unfortunately I will probablyrun out of time before I can get a custom ROM flashed, but thanks everyone for your help I will update my progress later.

You are on the right path my friend you flashed 3.33 firmware so you hboot version is 1.27 that's way you experiance bootloop , because you have gb rom with ics hboot, so next step is to flash custom recovery!
To do that you need to have SDK files downloaded (Fastboot , adb files) and when you have that in the folder you got the files you copy your recovery img and that you open command window from there and you get your phone to fastboot (bootloader that fasboot) , that you write the command in the command window fasboot flash recovery recovery.img and you are done!
EDIT: here is guide how to find fastboot and Adb files you need http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152148
and for flasing custom recovery follow this guide step 2 flashing recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861
after that flash rom
and when you flash your first rom do format everything except sd card before flashing, (and make sure the first rom you flash is not kitkat because you may experiance difficulties when flashing)
So I managed to get recovery going, and I flashed CM 11 with 4.4 with no issue. : D
