I'm having an odd problem, and I'm not sure what to do about it.
This morning when I woke up, I noticed that there was a BusyBox update in my notification bar. Upon trying to update it failed.
So, I uninstall BusyBox, and try to reinstall it, but I'm met with a message that I don't have root access. Upon checking with Root Checker, I DO have root access. But, now all of a sudden, my wifi is not working, when it has worked flawlessly up to this point.
I'm not sure what to do. I don't have a nandroid backup to roll back to, and I need my wifi to work. Would doing a factory reset and flashing a new ROM solve this problem?

What ROM are you on...Gingerbread or ICS?
you must be on a custom rom or you on stock, rooted?
---------- Post added at 04:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:40 PM ----------
ok need to go into CWM and flash these files, should correct it, I had this issue on a ROM dont recall which one or it might of been on a rooted stock....
but before you do anything.....
download these files and put them on your sd card of the phone, NOT THE EXT memory card, you are gonna flash them like you would a ROM ok, in cwm, you can flash them back to back while you are in CWM...kk
download this file first and flash this file first: FLASH ME FIRST
download this file second and flash it second: FLASH ME SECOND

check the MIUI thread...

I think MIUI occasionally loses recovery. Possible kernel issue.
Read through the thread to see if you can get some additional info.
I'm not sure if it has any bearing on your wifi..possible.
If you know how, you can try extracting the kernel from MIUI rom and reflashing just the kernel using SGS kernel flasher to retain your data.

I definitely don't know how to do that haha. I'm a noob when it comes to this whole game, although I'm slowly learning.
Do you think doing a factory reset, wiping everything, and then flashing a new ROM might fix my issue? I did want to try out one of the new ICS ROMs, so if that will fix my problem I might as well go ahead and try one of them out.
Flashing Uniporn seemed to have fixed my issue. I first re-flashed MIUI and that didn't solve anything, so I guess the issue was with MIUI? Just odd that the wifi would drop out after using it flawlessly for 4 months.
Oh well, got something new to play with again. Thanks for the help guys!

When I first booted up WiFi worked for about 2 minutes. Found my home network, connected...appeared all was well.
Then suddenly it stopped and now it'll just read Turning Wi-Fi On... indefinitely. Eventually it'll say error.
Originally superwiped before flashing ROM, flashed the suggested radio.
I tried clearing cache and dalvik, didn't help.
My phone hates wifi apparently. Wi-Fi being junk is the reason I rooted in the first place. Was hoping this'd fix it. The fact that it's "intermittent" makes me wonder if it really is a hardware fault.
Any ideas?
Android Version: 4.0.3

Kernel: 3.0.16 SebastionFM #1
Hboot- 1.27.1100
Radio- 11.22.3504.07_M
Tried a factory restart w/ sim pulled, still nothing.
The odd thing is how it worked at first when I booted up..then stopped functioning alltogether.
I had the EXACT same thing happen to me this morning. I went to bed last night and wifi was working great. This morning when I took it off the charger I noticed that wifi wasn't running. Tried turning it on an it wouldn't turn on. I thought it may be a glitch so I tried restarting. No change. Realized I had fastboot checked so restarted without it. No change.
If I go to the Settings menu under the icon to switch on wifi it says error. When I try and turn it on it has the message about turning on wifi for a few minutes and then the switch turns off. I also noticed that it is draining my battery VERY fast (most likely because it is continually trying to to turn on wifi)
Not sure what happened or what would cause this. I'm running ARHD 6.2.1.
I was planning on upgrading this afternoon after work to 6.5.1. Hopefully this new wifi issue doesn't get in the way of that...
Any help would be appreciated.

You need to update your firmware first!
In ARHD thread Mike1986 states: 3.32.401.x firmware is required! So go to this tread and get the necessary firmware and you wouldn't have any wifi issues.
I'm also running 6.5.1 and have wifi on for almost the entire day without any problems!
Thanks for the reply BioTeck. I can't speak for BrokenWiFi but for me I've been running on 6.2.1 for about 2 weeks no (with the suggested firmware for that version) and haven't had a problem. Then all of the sudden this morning it started having this problem.
Any suggestions on what I can try? This evening I plan on upgrading firmware to latest as well as upgrading to 6.5.1 so I'm hoping that helps but are there any other suggestions I can try?

I did update it originally.
I decided to go through again...I just downloaded 3.32.401 from that thread...flashed it, superwiped and installed ROM. Still no dice. It reads all the same as it did before in the "software information" area.

Strange.... Apparently it's an ICS bug and has been posted here!

This happen to me way way long ago, back during the series 3 ARHD. After going through many things, a simple rom reflash fixed it for me.
I was never able to figure out why. I asked around in here and else where and there were some talk of it back then with a few tips for solution, which did not work.
As far as I could tell, that was the only time ever that I flashed a rom without turning off wifi before rebooting into recovery. I have since then diligently turn off wifi before flashing anything. Never encountered the problem again.
P.s. I recalled reading something about how the wifi is stuck on "On", while the rom trying to turn something that's already On, On and errored itself.

Wanted to update on my progress. I solved the issue on my phone:
I was messing around with it today while waiting for a meeting to start and I found where the wifi settings, etc are stored. It ended up being a corrupt/invalid wpa_supplicant.conf file. All I had to do was pull that file out from the directory and turn on wifi and *poof* it worked again. When I turned wifi on it created a new file and everything has been great so far this afternoon.
In case anyone wants to give it a shot who is having wifi issues you can find the wpa_supplicant.conf file in /data/misc/wifi/ directory on your phone. Simply cut/rename the file and put it somewhere else. If you have wifi passwords you want to save, you can open the original file using a text editor and copy the settings over to the new file.
I believe the cause of my issue was actually Titanium Backup. Looking at the last time it backed up my wifi settings was back when I wasn't running ICS yet. Yesterday I did restore an app using it and must have accidentally restored that old backup. Their formats are different from Gingerbread to ICS apparently and it was causing errors.

Unfortunately after reading your latest post, Broken WiFi, I don't know that the fix that worked for me applies to you but just in case --> Are you using (or did you use) Titanium Backup to restore any of your apps? Is it possible you have a corrupt file as well? Obviously you are wiping out that file when you superwipe so I don't think you have the same issue but it is probably worth checking.
Funny, it worked!
I had a feeling the supplicant was the problem..
In my last rom it wouldn't let me touch anything in /data even though I was SU and S-OFF.....
So I'd just delete the one in /system... but it never helped.
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooohooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Seriously, I've spent like 15 hours troubleshooting this...reading every thread on the net.
Never thought to try and delete the one in /data in this rom.
THANK YOU so very very much.
I can't post in DEV, but maybe you could let some people know over there that it's a fix.
I copied wpa_supplicant.conf from gb miui and it seems to be working for now, will test it some more..
Sounds like hardware..I had a problem with what turned out to be the battery cover, it has the antennas built in to it.. changed this and was good again. Worked for me..

One thing you might try doing is deleting it and then try restarting the phone. That would be the next step I would do. If it doesn't work then you might have to start looking into a hardware or rom issue.
After you try deleting and then restart if that doesn't work I'd back everything up and try flashing your rom again.

I did try to cut/delete/rename the file through ES File Explorer and Super manager but the file doesn't move/delete/rename. Plus for some reason this file is under "/etc/wifi/" instead of "/data/misc/wifi/" /data is an empty folder in my phone. Maybe you are using different explorer?
By the way , I've updated my phone with OTA_PYRAMID_ICS_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.5-1.50.401.1_P_release_246627z7pljztztog0er50. I've deleted the file and restarted many times, Wifi will say OFF or ERROR, i will try to turn it on and the same problem occurs, stuck saying "turning on". I've reflashed rom and firmware many times using different kernels and techniques etc. I can't believe it to be hardware related as everything was fine with version 6.3.1 and firmware 3.30... then updated to 6.5.1 and 3.32.. fine again however a couple of hours later WiFi was off and continued to say "turning on". I'm going to try to downgrade to 6.3.1 and 3.30 again to see if that helps..
I've having the same problem. I updated to firmware 3.32 and ROM ARHD 6.5.1 last Saturday and WiFi seemed to be working until yesterday. Today it won't work at all - I can't make or receive calls and had to move the SIM card to a Blackberry curve so I could get some work done.
Tonight I tried deleting the wifi supplicant file posted earlier and that seems to help for one or two calls then it's back to no calls at all. So then I wiped the cache and devlik cache and tried again. That may have helped, but I'm not sure yet.
I'm starting to see a real trend in these WiFi issues. There have been a lot of threads about it lately. I don't know what is causing the problem though.
I had my WiFi shut off again today with the same issue. The fix I posted earlier worked again but having to do this every few days is not going to be acceptable...
I REALLY am enjoying ics and arhd 6 but I'm afraid between this WiFi problem and the fact that T-Mobile WiFi calling doesnt work I might be going back to gingerbread...

hello,
i've been trying to get my mt4gs to turn wifi on in ics. when i turn it on it says, "turning on" but just goes back to "off". i tried turning it on via settings and via the panel. i do a full wipe every install -reset data, clear cache, wipe dalvik cache. also not sure if it's related adb cannot detect device when booted but works fine in recovery when in ics.
i've read and tried the various .zip files for various radio/kernel posted by football but still no go. i may be overlooking a step when flashing but here is my device info:
CWM Recovery version 5.5.0.4 also used 5.0.2.7
Baseband: 11.59.3504.00U_11.16.3504.20_2
HBOOT: Unlocked
DOUBLESHOT PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.45.0013
RADIO-11.16.3504.20_4

it works using gingerbread - tried OTA Stock, as well as bulletproof and it connects ok, but i need to turn wifi off first if i need to reboot otherwise i get the same issue, wifi won't turn on.
sorry for the long post, and forgive me if i missed an already existing thread. thanks for reading. any help is greatly appreciated.
well what rom are you using
I had the same problem with certain ROMs. Sometimes it would even say instead of switching back to off it would just say error. I used Dark Raider for Vivid and had that problem. I did everything and gave up. I downgraded my vivid to GB and rooted it. WiFi is an essential to me so I have to stay where I can switch it on. I hope there's a fix for this soon.

when you flash a rom, are you restoring a backup in titanium or something?
i have never had this problem and i have tried every rom on xda and rootzwiki
I've had this happen too. I've fixed it by using fastboot and flashing the boot.img from the ROM or Kernel update that I had last installed. My phone is s-on so I have to do that everytime I apply a ROM or am update that has a boot.img in it.

It was really frustrating for a while. It was the exact symptom you have described. I kept trying by flashing the kernel with fastboot, then flashing the ROM, and then flashing the kernel again with fastboot. It seemed that whenever I changed something, I had to use that sequence to get it to work again.

Wifi still no go using ICS. Is there a recommended radio version when using ICS ROMS?
Any stock GB Rom version wifi is ok. Using Bulletproof 1.1 works fine as well. Tried v0.9b WildchildICe and update4 of unofficial cm9 and still no wifi. Gonna stick with WildChildIce rom for now and try different Radio combinations.

When you flash, try mounting system and data in recovery prior to the flash. There used to be an error where wifi would hang as described if those were not mounted upon flashing. Couldn't hurt to try.

Try this. Go HERE. Go down to the 3rd post. Look for GanOptimizer & follow the instructions. No promises but sometimes that will lock it on in ICS.
I was hoping to try out one of the 4.2 builds tonight, but every time I try to flash one through TWRP it just says "Failed"; I've tried CM10.1 and Eclipse ROM and they both had the same result. Also tried redownloading ROMs and re-copying them to my SD card, still no change. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong here? I've never had a problem flashing any ROM before.

Weird. I am on that same version and have been flashing 4.2 roms for the last few weeks without any issues.
A few things I would try:
-Double check the md5 of the rom you are flashing
-Make sure it is a d2vzw rom
-Wipe caches, delete user data and wipe system
-Put the rom on the internal sdcard before flashing.
Other than that, I got nothing

Damn, yeah I can't figure it out; all the ones I've tried were Verizon ones, made sure to wipe everything as usual, tried putting it on the internal SD card and the external, won't work on either one. Very frustrating. But thanks for the help anyway
Ok, I think I figured out the problem (won't be sure until I try it), but I think what happened is I edited my build.prop to the Sprint GS3 to get Google Wallet to work, forgot to change it back, and updated TWRP (which installed the Sprint version, not Verizon), and that's why the flashes are failing. So if any other people are having the same problem, that might be why. Yes I'm an idiot lol. Hopefully this fixes it

Yeah it turns out that was the problem. I edited my build.prop to match the Sprint GS3, so I could download Google Wallet from the Play Store and use it. I just never bothered to change the build.prop back. And when I updated TWRP through GooManager, it assumed I had a Sprint GS3 and installed the wrong recovery. Good call. Might be worth mentioning over in the wallet thread. It could save someone the headache you just experienced. Congrats on getting it working.

Had anybody seen a situation where the recovery won't keep the correct date and time? I've flashed TWRP 2.7.1.0, 2.8.0.1, and the latest Philz, and all of them kept changing the time, the timezone, and the date... and they were acting a little buggy in their responsiveness.
Thoughts?

I've experienced the same issue since I got my S5. KT TWRP 2.8.1.0 doesn't have that problem. It also fixes the backup to extSD problem, if you were experiencing that.

THANKS! I had KT's downloaded but didn't flash it yet... I certainly will now. And yes, the extSD issue bit me, too.
Nope... date is 1/1/2014 and the time is 3 hours lagging for the timezone.
Let's hope at the very least my nandroid backups won't disappear.

Try this: Using something like Root Explorer, look for the TWRP folder on your internal SD card. There's a file called ".twrps". It's the config file for TWRP. Delete it and then boot back into TWRP. You'll have to redo your setting (timezone, screen timeout etc.). See if that fixes it. If that doesn't do it, not sure what else will.

I had tried peeking into the file with Notepad++ but nothing jumped out at me. Now I feel silly for not trying what you suggested.
I deleted it and it had no effect. The one I deleted and the one it created had the wrong date/time stamps on them... as did the two backups I created (both in metadata and filename convention).
On the bright side... my two backups are as yet undeleted.

Very strange, I was sure that was it. My date/time have been correct since using it. The only other thing I may have done was using KT Kernel as well, but I don't think that was it. If you decide to try KT Kernel and want to go back to stock kernel, here's a link for stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54632862&postcount=1702
Another thought: What version is your firmware? Should be NE5. If not, here's that link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2798079

Thanks for the links.
I didn't flash the KT Kernel because the post said it needed to be flashed onto a TouchWiz based ROM... and right now I have PacMan (AOKP). I had MOAR (NE5) installed for a bit but I'm not used to stock. Truthfully, MOAR had everything I could want... I may just have to get over my snootiness.
Oh, it's coming back to me... with MOAR I was getting a lot of error popups of processes stopping running. i think "acore" was a common one. I could have troubleshot but didn't.

Make sure your backup works and come on over I'm a big supporter of MOAR! Do a clean install though and I bet 99.9% of your problems will be solved

There's the main install 2.1, and the new stuff 1.7, and of course Gapps. Do folks typically flash them all together... Or separately sequentially?
My clean install is usually wiping cache, dalvik, data, and system.

MOAR is TW, so gapps is included. My FAQ and guide for MOAR may help you get a feel for it.

Okay... MOAR's on there now. I'll read up and tweak to the extent I'm able and see if I have any questions.

Dear All,
I don't know if I have posted it at the right place if I have not please guide me.
I tried my best to find a solution but couldn't that's why I am posting this.
So here I begin,
I am using OnePlus One from last 2 years and it is still working fine.
I have spent most of the time on Sultan's Rom which ran without any issues.
Recently I flashed [ROM][OFFICIAL][7.1.1_r9][BACON][OPTIMIZED]RESURRECTION REMIX [5.8.0] Rom and it worked well too.
But all of a sudden I started experiencing LTE signal drop.
I always do Nandroid backups so I restored to Sultan Rom but the problem was still there.
I have tried flashing modems with no luck.
Now I have started experiencing intermittent 3G signal too.
I have even tried restoring old KK backups but that doesn't resolve the problem.
This is so frustrating, Please help.
Let me know if more information is needed.

I'd do a complete clean restore of last official stock. If the issue still persists, it must be a hardware issue or an issue with your carrier.
If your device is wiped clean and stock software restored, there's no way it can be a software issue.
Good luck!

if clean flash through fastboot don't work out,try changing network antenna.
I don't think it's a carrier issue because it was perfect before.
The problem in network antenna must've been due to sudden drops or heavy impact.

Hi, thank you for replying.. Flashing stock ROM from fastboot is different than flashing it from twrp recovery?
Please let me know if it is.
I will certainly give it a try then.

Hi, thanks for replying... I will do a clean install, does it need to be done via fastboot or just recovery?
And do I need to wipe internal storage too?
Since fresh installs via recovery couldn't resolve the problem..

Flash stock Cos13 through fastboot,it will wipe your internal storage so take a backup.
Refer to guide "Bring your device back to stock Cos by Eddy".

Do you have 'unknown' baseband?? I was stuck on 3g due to that..
Issue Resolved
I dont know what happened, I had flashed stock cm13.1 via fastboot.
I checked and that didnt resolve the problem, so I had accepted the way things were and started using my 3g.
All of a sudden the 4g signal came this morning and now I can use LTE well.
I dont know how long it will stay but seems like phone decided to bring back 4g.

Bro, I am facing the exact same issue man. My LTE still doesn't work. I tried installing various modems. Still no use. I hope it does soon. :/

Im facing the excat same issue. Did everything and nothing worked. Somebody please help. :/
Bro try flashing stock cm13 via fastboot... That will wipe your internal storage but eventually bring back 4G
I am also facing network drop issue for last few weeks.at first i thought it may be rom's problem, because generally i try a new rom in every 2/3 weeks, but now i notice that ,i am facing the issue in all roms,i read all the comments in this threads and see that cm13.1 can solve my issue.but can i solve my issue within any nougat rom?
I too am having the issue. Occasionally my 3/4g data just cuts out but it is still enabled in settings. It seems to be when I come off of WiFi most of the time. I'm on CM13.1 by jgcaap.
I'm going to flash back to full stock and then reinstall TWRP, then the ROM. I have a few issues and I figured it was time for a fresh flash.

Are you talking about CyanogenMod 13?
I clean installed COS 13.1.2 via fast boot. It even removed TWRP and brought back Cyanogen recovery. The problem didn't resolve.
Can I install CyanogenMod 13 via fastboot now? or should I unlock bootloader, install TWRP and then install CyanogenMod 13 via fastboot? Please help. I'm a beginner.
In my opinion you should unlock bootloader and then reinstall via fastboot...

I'm right now on COS 13.1.2.
Lets say I install CM 13 via fastboot and my LTE works. Can I again revert back to COS 13.1.2 using fastboot without affecting LTE again?
Thanks for the help. I will try that this Sunday and Will tell you if it works.
