[Q] Install update on deblaoted stock? - Verizon Droid Charge

Droid Charge with a self debloated 2.3.6. If I reinstall the stock kernel, and convert back to RFS, can I install the update.zip from CWM for the version that Verizon keeps pestering me about over this without having to do a wipe?
Couldn't find an answer on the forums easily.

Yes, but you won't be rooted anymore.

Droid charge roms and root

Hello, when i was using droidx to install roms i had to be rooted and i had to purchase and use dx bootstrap and rom manager to install roms. With the droid charge do i have to install programs like bootstrap and rom manager to install roms? I see there is a Rom developed that is already rooted and deoxed so do i need to be rooted to install that Rom and is there a way to get back to stock if something goes wrong? Is there a way to unbrick your phone if you get pricked? Is there a way to sbf back like you can with droidx?

This needs to be in general but
For samsung it is different than moto I had a droid 2 you don't have to use apps for this you use odin to flash atm DO NOT use rom manger to back up or restore it will perm brick ur phone for now I would just root with adb until a stable cwm is ready

Help rooting

Can anyone tell me the best way to root the charge. i have looked and most of the websites have diferant root methods. And i want to know the best way to root the phone

Same here. I just got my droid charge and did the ED4 update out of the box. I tried GingerBreak but was unsucessful.
There is no rooting process for ED2 or EE4. If you are on stock EE4 you need to go here to get a EE4 build with root already done to it. The only build you could root so far is the original ED1 build.
Here is a link to what you will need tho http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116867
Actually, you can do this by simply loading a rooted kernel. Here's the quick and dirty instructions, I'll make a better post later.
Download the PBJ kernel from here on to your SD Card:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1104634
Use Odin to install CWM from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112804
Boot in to CWM and install the PBJ kernel.
After that, you should be rooted.
Is there going to be a root process at somepoint that gives people root who dont want to flash kernals or roms? Similar to the ED1 root with gingersnap?

I'd be surprised, since Odin is so easy. I'm not sure what the one-click method did to get root, though, so maybe it wouldn't be too hard for someone to do.
Can you root stock EE4 with odin? I thought you had to load a rooted kernel or something like that.

No, you do need to load a kernel. Here's the detailed How-To I wrote up:

From all the threads in general, it would seem the update does unroot your phone. Also from those threads it would seem flashing a custom recovery and, subsequently, the su zip will give you root back. I don't know of a pre-rooted version out yet.
i just upgraded to ics a little while ago using rom manager, i had to go back to stock 2.3.3 which unrooted my phone but did not lock the phone . I was wondering the same thing and that is how the heck do i root my phone now lol. my phone still shows the unlocked lock on the boot up screen under "Google" but i dont have SU permissions anymore. if I still have su.zip file and cwm can i just use fastboot and flash the img and su.zip ?
What if I don't have my original files to roll back to stock GB? I just downloaded the version Koush put up on his twitter...will that allow me to flash in CWM and update?

Download stock images from from manager then update to 2.3.6 then you can flash the one from koush's twitter.
Root will be lost after update. Currently flashing su.zip wont work. Still trying to figure it out.

We might just have to re*root when they release the info.

Let me ask you also, I'm currently running Alpha13 w/ Francisco.Franco kernel. Is the official that much smoother that I should lose my root?

Help a noob

So i recently got an galaxy s2 skyrocket and performed my first android root using the skyrocket easy root zergrush app.
I am running stock 2.3.5 and am on ATT . The only things i have done is install the COM, froze the tether, and un installed a few bloatware items
My question is...
How would i restore this to stock? Un root and all?
Also how would i install 2.3.6?

2.3.6 got pulled, so you'd have to install a custom rom.

If you rooted using DoomLord's method, then use this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18879974&postcount=146
For 2.3.6 I would flash Silver's zip for the rom. You will need CWM.

Fellow noob
So I'm fairly new to android as well, I would highly suggest taking a look this thread goes over rooting, kernals roms and going back to unroot...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427268
Then a couple of the apps that have really helped me out are Titanium Back up and Rom Manager. Makes flashing roms very easy, between easily flashing CWM and rebooting into CWM with just a click. Then TB with it's auto backup's and being able to quickly restore when you've flashed that new rom. (I paid for both of these apps, so I'm not sure what features the free versions have)
I flashed to Silvers rom to get to 2.3.6 and it's working great, was very easy to do!
Anyways, hope this helps!

[Q] Tweaked 3.2 (FP5) to FP8 Stock

Hi!
I stumbled across this post and was wondering which option I should download if I want to flash to a FP8 Stock ROM from my Tweaked 3.2 (FP5) ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40766145
Is this possible? Or will I have to return to stock FP5 first?
I am using a Droid Charge on FP5 running Tweaked 3.2. I have Clockwork Mod, Superuser, Titanium Backup, and ROM Manager installed. If possible, I would like to be able to flash it using my ROM Manager.
I want to do this to prep for the impending Tweaked on FP8 (and to shut up those OTA update notifications).

Thanks!
You should return to stock ep4 and work your way up through software updates. I think there are 3 in total now. We don't have a stock Odin for fp1 or later.

So I would essentially be losing my root and updating normally until I get the latest update and can root again?
