Help rooting - Verizon Droid Charge

Can anyone tell me the best way to root the charge. i have looked and most of the websites have diferant root methods. And i want to know the best way to root the phone

Same here. I just got my droid charge and did the ED4 update out of the box. I tried GingerBreak but was unsucessful.

There is no rooting process for ED2 or EE4. If you are on stock EE4 you need to go here to get a EE4 build with root already done to it. The only build you could root so far is the original ED1 build.
Here is a link to what you will need tho http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116867

Actually, you can do this by simply loading a rooted kernel. Here's the quick and dirty instructions, I'll make a better post later.
Download the PBJ kernel from here on to your SD Card:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1104634
Use Odin to install CWM from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112804
Boot in to CWM and install the PBJ kernel.
After that, you should be rooted.

Is there going to be a root process at somepoint that gives people root who dont want to flash kernals or roms? Similar to the ED1 root with gingersnap?

I'd be surprised, since Odin is so easy. I'm not sure what the one-click method did to get root, though, so maybe it wouldn't be too hard for someone to do.

Can you root stock EE4 with odin? I thought you had to load a rooted kernel or something like that.

How to install CWM on stock kj6?

Does anyone know how to install CWM on stock kj6? I don't want to use the custom kernel. Tried copying the recovery and update.zip but no go. Getting the signature error. Not sure what to try next.

Don't think you can have clockwork mod without a modded kernel on gingerbread.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Krylons method was for froyo. Your gonna have to go with the modded kernel to get cwm.

It's not kj6.
Also, my last attempt to use one of these kernels wasn't very successful. Had a couple of little glitches here and there and it drove me nuts.
Now the phone works perfectly on a rooted stock kj6 with junk removed, so I don't feel like risking it, especially not having CWM to backup the stock config.
+1
I am also on stock Gingerbread, rooted, and happy with it. I'd like to install CWM *before* I start mucking about with my ROMs. ROM Manager claims to support it, but it didn't list my phone in its detected devices and then I saw here that one shouldn't use it anyway so I uninstalled it.
So what's the easiest/noobiest way to install CWM on my T-mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4g 2.3.6 rooted?
Heindall.... With the the kj6 kernel in the development forum.

How about you develop a new kernel? All we got is drhonks kj1 and bhundven kj6, both customs... Wait... How you plan to get cwm if you dont "custom" a kernel? Interesting, huh?
You don't need cwm to have an easy way of fixing roms if anything goes wrong, theres always odin and heimdall.

Man you're an arrogant dude. People ask for some help and you tell them to dev a new kernel! Put you're money where your mouth is.
As for the OP I think you get the idea. It's either custom or no go.

[Q] Need CWM for sgs4g 2.3.6 official.

Has anybody got a version of CWM that will work on the sgs4g? I accidentally flashed the galaxy s CWM from rom manager before finding this forum. Nothing has changed on the phone, except if i boot into CWM recovery i always get verification errors.
Also, are there any ROMs for the sgs4g that is running 2.3.6?
Thanks to anybody who can help.
Get rid of ROM Manager. I've read it doesn't work well on this phone. Check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380331 for a 2.3.6 ROM with the latest CWM/root/voodoo lagfix.

You should try this

When it is time to choose a package pick the one that includes the beta 2d kernel from the Kj6 collection. Learning the one click method will also give you every thing you need should you make a mistake and need to recover from a soft brick

It's Heimdall installable, too, which is how I did it. I'm trying to leverage Heimdall more these days in an attempt to learn it better.

This may just be a noob question and I hope I'm posting in the right place. I'm running 2.3.6 as well and want to flash Valhalla Final onto my device. The instructions say you must have pre-installed kernel with clockwork recovery. Do I need to use Heimdall and load a kernel with clockwork recovery or is there another way to get the CWM? I am still learning the basics of all this stuff. Forgive my ignorance.

Since you're already on GB (2.3.6) you can do this, if you're not rooted follow:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_4G#Rooting
Once you're rooted:

Save the wiki to your bookmarks. We're updating it constantly so you'll always get the most up to date info from there. Also spread the word when other users need help, point them to the proper section in the wiki .
Thanks to everyone for their insight. My sgs4g is no more now. Luckily, I learned a lot about flashing with it before it died. Including unbricking. Still haven't gotten heimdall to work. But I think I have been trying to run the regular exe instead of the front end. We'll see. Hopefully I get paid this week to cut on the internet again. Killing me here.

[Q] Root 2.3.6

I have 2 Samsung Infuse 4g. One is 2.2 and the other 2.3.6. I rooted the 2.2 with superoneclick...no problem. But the 2.3.6 will not root, with or without debug on. Could someone please help? And once rooted, how do you unlock, or do I even need to since I switched AT&T sim for Straighttalk sim and it works fine in both. I would appreciate any help. Thanks guys.

Flash with SGS flasher. Now sure if that works without root. If not flash in CWM. Boom. Done.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk
If you have cwm you likely have root and if you don't have root(entropy dd kernel has root removed so you can update it) you can root through cwm with an su updater package. if you don't have root you can't use kernel flasher.
you will need to flash the rooting kernel remotely with either Odin or heimdall.

Help a noob

So i recently got an galaxy s2 skyrocket and performed my first android root using the skyrocket easy root zergrush app.
I am running stock 2.3.5 and am on ATT . The only things i have done is install the COM, froze the tether, and un installed a few bloatware items
My question is...
How would i restore this to stock? Un root and all?
Also how would i install 2.3.6?

2.3.6 got pulled, so you'd have to install a custom rom.

If you rooted using DoomLord's method, then use this.

For 2.3.6 I would flash Silver's zip for the rom. You will need CWM.

Fellow noob
So I'm fairly new to android as well, I would highly suggest taking a look this thread goes over rooting, kernals roms and going back to unroot...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427268
Then a couple of the apps that have really helped me out are Titanium Back up and Rom Manager. Makes flashing roms very easy, between easily flashing CWM and rebooting into CWM with just a click. Then TB with it's auto backup's and being able to quickly restore when you've flashed that new rom. (I paid for both of these apps, so I'm not sure what features the free versions have)
I flashed to Silvers rom to get to 2.3.6 and it's working great, was very easy to do!
Anyways, hope this helps!

Can't Root my Captivate runing 2.3.5

Hello i want to Root my captivate so i can Network Unlock it.
I tried superoneclick and it didnt worked.
Any other way to root my phone ?
If i flash CyanogenMod 9 can i unlock the phone using the Galaxy_S Unlock by Helroz on Play store ?
Usually, I'm nice, but this question has been asked way too many times. You most likely didn't search or read other posts that clearly explain how rooting is different for gingerbread. I am sure you will find out without having to look too hard.
