This is strange. I have been using ARHD for a long while now, and am fairly fluent in the ways of flashing . I wanted to post this in the ARHD forum, but I don't post enough to allow it apparently. Also couldnt find this anywhere else, so if this has been asked and answered, sorry. I looked. Anyway, I updated from 4.1.7 to 4.1.8 a couple if days ago and my issue is this: after getting it set up the way I like, adding the below-mentioned additions to the Rom, my phone either has reverted to .7 or is identifying itself as still utilizing the older version. I have checked before and after flashing , so I know its not the Rom being incorrect. I know it isn't using an old restore file, although I originally thought that was the culprit, since I like to try a lot ofnew things and have to restore when it doesn't go well. Bit, I have tried it four times, and every time it has shown 4.1.7 by the time I have finished my flashing. Anyone have a similar issue? Is it the coding on any of the add ons I use that may 'relabel' it somehow? It's really not a big deal, everything works well. But, its driving me nuts not to know. If its something I'm doing wrong,could somebody throw me a bone? Or just tell me its happened to you before too.....

Hi,
You are correct.
The Sony Bravia engine mod is the culprit.
This has been reported.
If it is not an issue for you,then you can sleep tight.
All is well.
Thanks for the response. Do you know if it truly has reverted or just re labelled? I appreciate it.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
Probably flashes a new build.prop which has the version number in it.
Check the bravia zip for a build.prop and if there is one that's the culprit. It hasn't reverted, just been relabeled
Well, the same thing happened to my phone but with the 3.6.8 XE ROM it went back to .7 tho oO?

Hi,
It's just relabelled.
Nothing to worry about.
Do you find any benefit with the Sony mod?
Sent telepathically from my pyramid
To tell you the truth, I'm not sure I see any real difference, and I watch a lot of video on sensation . The only reason I added it was because I have a bravia in my living room and love it. Are there internal settings that need to be adjusted ?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
It's not only the bravia addon but some of the others too (apm, eqs, etc). But there is no need to worry, the change is only in the label.
It is a very problem (BRAVIA engine). Don't worry about number, just enjoy your ROM
Thanks for the help everybody

Fairly certain the Bravia engine is in a way a hoax - doesnt do anything for graphics on your phone. Also, I started having problems with other features as soon as it was installed luckily did a nandroid backup before the install
It should improve multitasking performance on any 1.88 Based ROM. It would prolly work on just about any ROM base but TBH but I have only tried it on the 1.88 base.
Version 2 - 6/27/2012
This new version incorporates the values suggested by Calkulin.
You do not need to revert with undo.zip first. You can just flash this over.
Although I have not had time to test this mod in depth I believe it will outperform V1 now knowing what Calkulin has taught!

I simply removed these lines from the sh script. Nothing else was touched. The red line is for our device.
Code:
echo "0,2,4,7,9,12" > /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/adj
case "$hardware" in "elite")
[B][I][COLOR="Red"]echo "7746,9720,11694,13742,15715,24709" > /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree[/COLOR][/I][/B]
;;
esac
case "$hardware" in "ville")
echo "7946,9953,11960,14008,16015,25108" > /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree
;;

I have also included an "Undo" zip to replace the .sh file with an original untouched file straight from the stock ROM. You may want to back yours up manually. The file is located in /system/etc/.
You may want to check with your favorite ROM Dev to ensure this mod will not over write any tweaks they have placed in the ROM. This will work on any CleanROM 3.x version.
Needless to say this mod will not make your phone handle 1,000 apps simultaneously but it will allow Android to handle the memory as it would on any other phone without any modifications from HTC.
Hit Thanks!

I've never really had a problem with the multitasking performance up to now, but will flash this anyway as I know it's been causing others problems.
Nice find :good:
Now we can just post this thread link in a semi rude manner when someone compares the GS3 multitasking to the HTC one X multitasking lol

You might want to hold on that. The mod improves the multitasking functionality by a bit, but not significantly.
Previously, before this mod, only the last used app will be cached in memory at most. With this mod, I can cache more apps in memory (depends on the apps opened and cached). So far, once the app is 4th place and beyond, the memory is immediately cleared. I'm using it with Kobra rom, but I look forward to Scott's new update to see if multitasking will be improved significantly. I'll be testing it more in the afternoon when I have more time.
Still very useful if you're flipping back and forth between 2 apps and a big thanks like Scott for making for making this mod.
I can cache more then that,
Edit I opened a lot of apps and most of them can be cached, the only apps that didn't stay in memory were Facebook and Instagram and that's only because they were coded that way(I think)
Facebook is different because if I cache on news feed it'll redraw but when viewing a picture it'll remain frozen in time.
This mod is fo weal fo weal

Edit: sorry to keep spamming your thread Scott but I just wanted to say that this mod plus cleanRom dev edition.. is pure win. All the function I really want from sense and not a lick more (maybe that's why my apps cache lol). Plus I don't have to add all my usual favorite tweaks (gradient, themes, etc) all I add to this is the hd YouTube and a little tinkering with cpueditor and I'm cooking bacon.
Beer will be heading your way in short time in the form of a PayPal notification, thank you sir
Tldr= it's awesome

Video or it didn't happen.
I ll give it a try! Thanks
Thank you Scott, will try this with CleanROM tonight!
Thanks for the mod! I actually edited the sh file on cleanrom 2.6 se and it's working great (didn't want to flash your zip in case the script file from 1.88 is different than the one in 1.85).
Multitasking is noticeably better.
Interested to hear from more people on how well the phone runs with this. I was under the impression that sense is a resource hog and robs ram to run smooth. Allocating more to apps, affected at all ?

I haven't noticed any difference at all in the Modaco ROM. I'll probably jump back to CleanROM when 3.1 is out to compare.
I'm able so far to cache 4 and then the 5th gets cleared.

ok so this works awesome
multitasking is actually useful now
even if it's only 3 or 4 apps, that makes a world of difference from how it was

UPDATE: After applying this mod, I then reduced my "minfree" values to 20/22/24MB, and the multitasking is pretty amazing now.
can i install this mod in miui v4?.I think it is based on 1.73
Good news is that after spending over a week or so digging into the framework to see what changes HTC did, I managed to undo some of the mods that HTC did, like kill(hibernate) the previous app after x mins, so now multitasking works for the most part like it should. I just now need to free up some more memory to able to run more apps simultaneously even tho I'm running the bare minimum for memfree settings
Goooooood wooooork

Does anyone know how to pick features from other ui and put them on my phone. Like I have an HTC one XL and I would like to get the s-beam or milti-Window from Samsung toutchwiz but still keeping htc sense.

this is a semi ignorant guess/answer, so someone correct me if I'm off.
I think Android uses a lot of shared libraries (different apps access same common files) to function, and the ui can't have two different sets of same libs designed for different ui elements coexisting.
Also, the graphics files are usually mostly located in framework-res.apk and you would also have the same kind of issue there. You could try and amalgamate the two, but I think that is a really daunting task, since you would have to change tons of code to point to the new locations for the graphics/libs.
Am I even close, people? That's my guess. Lol

Ok so does he have a mod just for adding the numbers to the battery like viper does? That would be sweet and maybe one to switch to android multitask
CR's purpose is to bring a stock experience with some performance tweaks and debloat. If you want to customize it any further, you'll have to do your own reading and research to figure out what works.
Venom's purpose is to bring a stock experience with performance and visual tweaks (Hence the need for Venom Tweaks and Venom Hub). If you're lazy to find visual tweaks on the forum, stick with Venom. It'll save you from asking redundant questions.
I personally use Venom at the moment because CR6 isn't playing nice with my HOX. Used CR for a year when it was ICS though.
