My HOS is 2 weeks old today. I have rooted it (unlocked BL) and spent many hours with it...kept the stock ROM for now.
I had been using it today and last night and the battery was low so I plugged in the charger (using AC outlet), and left it on. I went back to it 20-25 minutes later and it was extraordinarily hot (I realize this happens...I posted on a thread 2 weeks ago when my phone first overheated to this degree). I saw that like the first time this phone overheated (which was within 48 hours after purchasing it) it wasn't charging. Similarly, this time, the battery showed only ~halfway charged. In my experience, it only takes about 20 minutes to fully charge it... so I was concerned.
I decided to power it off and keep it charging--hoping that the heat would lessen and it would just cool off and charge.
However, I checked it now (perhaps 2 hours later after powering off), and it won't even start. I plugged it in again and waited about a minute (thinking maybe somehow the battery drained), but no luck.
This never happened to me with my last HTC... I have never not had a phone not power up... this seems really weird.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!!!
Mine takes longer than 20mins to charge.....however its not good if it wont even power on, you gotta take it back
Have you tried to power it on by holding the power & volume down button?

Yes, I tried booting into recovery.. No luck... This is so frustrating because I have not really dropped it or got it wet or anything. I don't like the thought that it might have overheated and caused permanent damage.
I will take it back today I guess... Is 14 days still within the return/replace period? I won't even say I rooted it.. Just that it stopped working. Although I will be irritated to have to unlock the bootloader and root a new one.
I am wondering... Is there a way to power up the phone using ADB??
Thank you
unless your phone is recognised in ADB, No !
Well...good news, I think anyway...I tried taking the SIM card out and it didn't do anything so I left it alone plugged in for maybe an hour.
But.....
When I later looked at it, it was on again, and..it had booted into recovery. I had tried earlier to do this as mentioned above, but nothing happened (using power on and holding the volume rocker down:
So after putting the SIM card in it was fine...go figure.
Thanks for the replies!

Hey everyone.
I just got a brand-new G-Tablet through Sears. I'm checking here to see if anyone has any ideas before their tech support opens in ~two hours.
I got it to my office, plugged it in and charged it until the light turned green. Then I turned it on and played with it a bit. I didn't have a method to put it on the network right then to sync anything, so I really just poked around and then set it to the side. One thing to note is that I wasn't presented with a setup screen at all, it booted straight to home.
Then later that afternoon when I went to go home, it wouldn't power on. I'm not sure if it went to sleep or powered off, but nothing happens no matter what button combination I press. I've tried just pressing power, holding it down for 4 seconds, holding it down for 30 seconds, power and volume + at the same time, and power and volume - at the same time.
I tried hooking it up to my computer last night, thinking that maybe the display didn't come back from sleep and maybe I could force a reboot via ADB, but it must be off alltogether since it didn't trigger a USB installation on the computer.
When I plug it in to charge, the little light turns red, then a while later turns green, indicating that it is fully charge, yet still no joy.
Your thoughts?
Press the power button for a really long time to see.

Just held it down for 90 seconds, no dice. I tried pressing it briefly afterwards too just in case.
I think Roebeet and a few others had a similar issue. I believe they had to wait 24+ hours for the battery to drain. I can't find the thread but the search button may help
You didn't update the firmware, correct? This is a known issue with the older firmware and it's happened to me.
I believe that the device is frozen - and yes, when it gets in that state you cannot reset it, even when holding down the power button. You have two choices, when this happens:
1- Open up the back of the device (and thus voiding the warranty) and press the reset button on the system board. That will fix it immediately. I know this probably isn't the best option, but I wanted to mention it.
2- Unplug the device and wait for the battery to completely drain. This takes about 24 hours. Once drained, you can press the power button and it will boot up for 10-15 seconds before stopping - that's your queue that the device is "fixed" so you can start re-charging it.
Fortunately, this probably seems to be resolved on newer firmware, tmk. I've only had this happen on a device with the original stock firmware.
The two of you are gentlemen and scholars. I'll let you know how it turns out. I was on the phone to get the RMA when the line went all fuzzy and I couldn't talk to them. Then it did the same thing when I called back. Then I saw this post. Divine Intervention...
Going on 28 hours now and still nothing...I'll probably give it at least 3 days before I send it back.
Give it a few more hours, and then plug it in for a minute and try powering it up. the battery could be so drained at this point that it needs to be plugged in to go on.
Mine took 24 hours to drain, but I wasn't sure if it was at 100% charged, at the time.
Almost to the 48 hours mark and still nothing. I tried plugging it in briefly just to check and the red light still comes on, but it won't power up. Anyone know the possible standby time of a fully charged batter on these things? I was thinking if the system locked up and it isn't hardly doing anything, it could last a while...
Maybe a return to the store you purchased it from at this point. The battery should be dead by now. You should be able to get an exchange or you can try the other route Roebeet suggested but that will definitely void your warranty

The problem is that I'm in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Shipping time is at least 2 weeks and sears won't do an advance replacement. Neither will the Viewsonic support folks. So I'm either stuck having to buy a second one and waiting for them to get the original back before the refund, or waiting a month or more for a repair...
Are there any seals inside the case that get broken if you open it?
I don't know the answer but this may be of some help

I think I'm just going to give it anther day then send it in for repair.
Still nothing. Since its going to be over a month before I get a replacement, I'm just going to return it and wait for the new crop of tablets to come out. Thanks for the help guys.

Sorry to hear that. I think the reset button on the board would have worked, but I understand why you wouldn't want to open the device up. We shouldn't have to void our warranty to be able to do a hard reset.

But was your friend's responding at all? I get absolutely nothing. the only thing the tablet does is give me a red light when it's charging and a green light when it's done. The power button does nothing and volume down + power does nothing. doesn't nvflash require a connection over USB before it can do anything?
Its not Really a problem as the phone runs fine, but i was wondering if anyone else has seen this, it happens on every rom i have put in since root and downgrade, if i power it off it reboots normally
Also if i Pull the battery and put it back it Auto powers on

Is your power button maybe recessed or stuck? Could be causing it.

If it means aything it feels fine and passes CWM button test just fine.. It still has that slight click to it
EDIT: Ok upon checking again, as i haven't actually tried in a while it dosen't straight reboot, it reboots to recovery/CWM, the only reason i want ti to power down it to do a full charge on the battery, now i have been told this is frivolous but hey my battery is old, got the Shift when it first came out and it still last two plus days on a charge

You get two days out of an original battery . I would be very happy about that. If what your saying is that when you power down, and then plug it in to charge it reboots into Recovery. Then that is normal, it happens a lot on rooted devices ( not all but a good portion ). As for your device just rebooting as soon as you stick the battery back in. I'm going to have to agree with notso on this and say something is wrong with your Power button. It should not be doing that. I had that happen on a Shift that had been dropped. Turned out the Power button was damaged. It was stuck half in. Which caused a bunch of weird things.
Well then I guess I cant complain, but yes I get more then 48 hours from a charge, I charge it over night every other night and try to deep charge it once a month, seeing as i cant use mine to do it I use my wifes, my Full charges consist of Complete discharge, Charge to 100%, power down and leave on charger for 1 hour, then power back up and leave on charge for another hour once in a while during the Full cycle clear bat stats

I am able to get 2 days out of the the 2000mah or the original battery with drob's latest kernel.
Actually, a brand new factory battery seems to hold up better than the 2000mah batteries we got.
It's a htc charging while off issue if it powers itself into recovery once your phone shuts off. You'll need to talk to koush about it because the older recoveries can power while off but the newer ones can't because the older method no longer works on the newer recovery source code.

So I haven't used my Nexus for somewhere around 2 months since I got a new phone. The Nexus S was working fine prior, I had actually just got it back from Samsung after them fixing an issue related to my top volume button. After, I received it, the phone was in a complete stock condition, like it was just bought from a store (no unlocked bootloader, fastboot, Clockwork, etc.). A bit later, the OTA Jelly Bean update comes in, but I don't use it too much as I just got my new phone.
I left it on and ignored it for the past 2 months. I just assumed the battery would run out, and if I wanted to use it I would just plug it back in and that would work. Now the Nexus S won't show any sign of life. I've tried removing the battery and trying to turn it on while plugged in, when it's plugged in with my battery in, the charging indicator it used to show never shows up. Plugging it into my computer with or without a battery does nothing, it doesn't even show up in my device manager as "Unknown". I've also tried holding VOLUP + PWR for 10 seconds with all these different situations. Nothing. The phone is essentially dead. Any clue why this happened and how I should go about fixing it?
Nevermind. After leaving it plugged in with the battery for ~20 minutes it finally powered on! Hopefully this thread helps out someone in the same situation. It just seems as though it takes a long time to get it to a state in which it'll power on.
Hey all, I just got through with this hurricane sandy business and now I find my phone not working at all. First off I'd like to say that there is no water damage to this phone and it is NOT rooted. The problem is that it just won't turn on at all, and won't charge when I try to charge the device. The day before I charged the phone and it worked fine. I can provide more details if needed but I need to find a solution to this.
Did it run down on battery completely before it did this? You might need to charge it for a bit before it turns on. Also, see if you can get your hands on a spare battery to see if it's the battery's problem. I would also try removing the battery and putting it back just to make sure it wasn't jostled loose.

Two days ago I completely let the battery drain on its own because it was draining faster than usual and I was using it very minimally due to the lack of phone signal during the power outage. And yesterday I charged it until it was 100% in the morning and at night I charged it again until 100%. Before I went to bed, I turned off my phone and it was 90% and when I turned it on in the morning it was at 77% (which I thought was weird since the phone was not even on). Now the phone will not work at all. I took the battery out and everything. I even tried turning the phone on while trying to charge it (but it would not charge). The only feedback I got was that it vibrated when I tried turning it on this afternoon and after that was nothing. (it would either get stuck at the AT&T bootup part or I would get no display at all)

Nothing I can think of. It was fully charged by 9PM the other night and shut off before I went to bed. Next morning the batter is nearly halfway drained for no apparent reason. I think I will get another battery to test.
Also I let the battery sit out of the phone for a few days now and the phone still does not work.

Get a hold of a charged battery, then after 1 hour with no battery in the device, replace the battery remove the SD-Card and the SIM-Card, replace all covers. Reboot your PC and go to firewall tab in the control panel and turn of your firewalls, then reboot your PC, then using USB data cable not a charging cable.. with your device being OFF conect to a USB connection in the back of your PC, if it's a laptop use the one next to the intranet connection. Then wait about 1min. If nothing happwned, hold the volume down button then press and release the power button. if nothing happened, hold the volume up then press and release the power button. If nothing happened do the samething this time by holding both up and down volume buttons. If nothing happened with your device connected to the PC go to MY Computer tab right click on C>Properties then go to tools click on check disc tab check mark both options then restart your PC. Before windows tour OS starts, your PC will go through a self check. let it do its thing. it takes a couple of hours. then after its down check to see if it has seen your device. if not then do procedures above once again. GOOD LUCK.

Okay so I finally got it to turn on but in order to charge it, the phone must be turned off for some reason. Also, the touch screen is not working, even after I did a hard reset and erased all my data. I'm not sure if it is a hardware issue or a software issue because the display is working fine.

That same thing happened to a friend of mine. She took it to a technician tho and they sorted it out for her.
Hello every one, this just my first post here, but I have been follow the forum very very close since some days ago thanks to Mustaavalkosta and his new CyanogenMod Rom here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2533007&page=283.
I am having a similar problem with my HTC Inspire, here is my story. I bought it like it a year ago, the first thing I do was to rooted with AAHK and install CyanoyenMod cm-7-20130301-NIGHTLY-ace. Everything works just fine till a couple of months ago. One night I just leave my Inspire and go to sleep, the next morning I wasn't able to turn on, not charging, not turn on. Was not the battery because my brother has another Inspire and I check with his battery. I just leave the phone without the battery and Sim and SD for a day and them come back again, but at next day the same occurs. I try all that time, vol down+power. voldown+volup, every convination but nothing works. So I decide to dissensambly my phone... in the process I broke the ribbon flex cable http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-HTC-Desire-HD-Inspire-4G-Camera-Socket-Keypad-Membrane-PBC-Ribbon-Flex-Cable-/320925341841?pt=US_Cell_Phone_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item4ab8a41891 The phone was in parts on my table like a month till I was able to buy and recieve the ribbon (I live in Colombia). Finally the ribbon arrives 3 days ago, so I assembled the phone again and...magic! the phone turns on. My next step was install the Mustaavalkosta Rom that I mentioned before.... but, yesterday, my phone was dead again. So a try all steps again, put out the battery, Sim and Sd... and again try all the combinations of buttons, but nothing works... So I do it again: dissensably again my phone: Only disconnecting the display doesn't works... I have to disconect the display and the ribbon cable, assembled again and just turn on again.... Now I am waiting for the next black out...
I know is a weird behavior, but may be some one can point me in some direction to fix it.. I am not a developer or anything like that, but I like to investigate and solve problems... any help will be wonderful.
Cheers!
PD: I dont have any apps installed, just trying the Rom as it is.
PD: The next time it happens I will try the niavaran advises.
I am not inexperienced when it comes to ROMs, rooting, flashing, etc. Been doing it since my Droid X, X2, Gnex and now n5.
So pretty much I installed purity ROM and franco kernel. I was really tired when I was flashing it last night so as soon as I saw it boot up I let myself fall asleep. The last thing I saw was the setup screen asking me what language to select. I woke up this morning and tried to turn the screen on. nothing. held the power button for 10+ seconds then tried to boot again. Nothing. FYI the phone was fully charged last I saw. I have the heat on so it's kind of warm inside. I left it outside on the patio for about 20 minutes to cool down. Still gets nothing. No response what so ever. No vibration, the backlight of the display doesn't come on....nothing. I tried plugging it in the charger, nothing. The battery icon doesn't show up. The backlight doesn't come on. I left it on the charger for about 20+ minutes. Nothing. Plugging it into my computer does absolutely nothing. It doesn't show ANYTHING connected AT ALL. So no fastboot no adb (cant even get to recovery or bootloader) odin is out too. Literally 100% unresponsive.
Didn't think you could do that to a nexus honestly. Especially after all the hackery I did on the GNex. I didn't even do anything funny. Just flashed Purity + Franco (r14) I was waiting on r15.
Try charging it for a few hours (overnight).
I've seen this happen to a lot of people in the nexus 4 section.

Doesn't sound like it had anything to do with flashing anything, especially since you saw it go tot he language screen.
You've tried holding the volume keys while turning it on?
I honestly may have just been a faulty battery in the device. ran out of juice fast and now won't charge or power it.
I'd still try more holding power button remedies, etc.
Not sure that Odin would have ever helped you anyways considering this is not a Samsung phone.
Worst case RMA it through Google..

Yes, tried every button combo. True about odin, just making a point that a computer and fastboot/adb/toolkits would not work.

Yep its happened a few times with people with the nexus 4 too. The battery is at a decently high charge and suddenly it acts as if the battery is dead.
I have seen people fix it by charging the phone for a few hours though. Do you get an LED light when its plugged into the wall charger?

Absolutely nothing. Completely 100% unresponsive. I think it's done for.
Edit: Purchased from T-Mobile, not Google directly. I pay for insurance on the device. Stinks, but I think I'm going to have to file an insurance claim
Why do insurance when you can just do warranty claim at the store? Just take it back to them (especially since it hasn't been 30 days yet) and replace the device.
Did you try plugging it into a car charger in your car?
For some reason that sometimes works. I don't know why, maybe higher amperage or something.
You should try it!
This happened with my Nexus 4, All I did was leave it charging and that worked after quite a bit. At the time I re flashed it back to stock, not sure if it helped or not but I never had the issue again.
OP, have you solve your problem? my nexus 5 just dead when I rebooted my phone. now, i does not have any idea to turn it back on again.
