Wifi tether for FP1 - Verizon Droid Charge

I noticed the thread under android development for EE4 does this work for FP1? When I run the two tether apps barnacle or tether for root it does not work the phone is on eclipse 2.0...but I'm running the stock kernal

This works fine. Select Samsung Fascinate for device-profile and Softap for Samsung for Setup-Method.

If I still get kernal does not support message any alternatives I tried flashing another kernal 532 it did not work. The phones on eclipse

Wifi tether support has nothing to do with the kernel. It's all about having root. Are you able to get root in other apps?

Yes but for some reason a message comes up saying that the stock kernal does not support it I have full root..have you ever seen or heard about a notification like that?

Darn, i cant get it to work... hmm
edit:
i got it to work, i had to move su from xbin to bin...
Doesn't 2.2 have it as part of the build options? Could we maybe get the Froyo tethering app ripped from another device or does this have to be built into the kernel?
I had to uninstall mine using titanium backup, then reinstall and it worked fine.

I had been using Barnacle, which didn't work with 2.2 until I checked Skip wpa_supplicant.

i believe that has to be built into the kernel to allow such a thing.
I initially installed Wifi Tether with the Rooted 2.1 kernel. Then after testing to make sure I was rooted... flashed to Froyo... and everything still works.

Tethering ROM?

Just ODIN'd a friend's Mesmerize to EC10 ROM. Is there a custom Mesmerize ROM that allows tethering? It seems the EC10 ROM doesn't allow you to tether.
Thanks for the reply.
You can tether on ec10 IF you install jt's new ec10 voodoo kernel. With the new kernel, new rom, and wireless tether for root, it works pretty good. I use it to tether my g tab.
Btw, theres a link in our dev section to jt's kernel thread. If you need help finding it let me know.
EDIT: here's the link to the new voodoo kernel thread. DL links are on p.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010102

Yes, we do, but that app is linked to uscc's tethering subscription plan that will cost you an extra $25 a month. Unless you already pay for that service, a third party tethering app is the safe (cheap) route. If you pay for that service, then by all means, use the included uscc app. It'd probably be easier to use.

Thanks for the EC10 Voodoo kernel link. May I ask what "new rom" you are running to enable tethering?
I just flashed the EC10 PnP v0.3 ROM but still get the same issue enabling USB tethering with the message saying I need to enroll in USCC tethering plan.
Thanks for the info.

That's simply a stock warning built into the app. Unless you go over your cap uscc won't know you are tethering. Many people have used that app with no problem.

I've used the stock tethering app multiple times without paying uscc twice for the same data total bs fee! Anyways as long as you don't use tons of data you should be good. 3g watchdog is a good app with a widget to track data usage. This phone actually creates a pretty nice hot spot btw good range and speeds

JSCOTT30..will this work?

It seems I'm too new to reply to Jscott30 so I have to ask him a question this way. Lame, I know but Ive no other way to ask it. Maybe someone else might know this one though.
If I flash my infuse using THIS version "Stock UCLB3 with root UCLB3_Unbrick_root_1.1.zip" will I be able to use the tethering feature on my own and without involving ATT?
This is JScott30's article I'm referring too - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705260
Thanks a bunch!
Lash
I'm unsure....I believe once rooted you can download a third part tethering app...but you still risk Att monitoring your usage...
Also, you can always send a user a pm

I believe to tether without paying AT&T you can just remove the tethering manager app with Titanium Backup. However I believe a custom kernel is necessary to do this. You should back up both the tethering app and all other data and apps using Titanium. I always do a CWM backup as well just for safe measure on anything I do. If you do need to flash a kernel you can use SGS Flasher (find in google play) or Zen's Infuse Toolkit (do a search in Infuse Development to find this). I prefer the Infuse TK over SGS. This is becayse the infuse toolkit also includes 3 different kernels for you to flash. Not to mention the overall versatility and accessibility of the toolkit.
Hopefully someone else can confirm all this as well. I hope this does help out though.

Tried to freeze tethering manager via TB and big brother still saw me. Rep at art told me they can tell if you tether your phone. Just saying to be weary.

Oooo noted. I figured they could tell because of traffic or something. I mean its their network, gotta keep tabs on it. I wonder if they could tell with an unlimited plan though.

Ok, I've been using Sac's Roms 3.5 and 4.0 with KT Kernel and this app works perfectly. It says that it started with errors and doesn't show the download and upload quantities but, my pc recognize it, as a matter of fact, I'm using it right now. I hope you can see the speed test prove here in Puerto Rico.
I'm on latest version of negalites rom and use wifi tether ap with no problems. It's in the playstore but you need root.
