Just ODIN'd a friend's Mesmerize to EC10 ROM. Is there a custom Mesmerize ROM that allows tethering? It seems the EC10 ROM doesn't allow you to tether.
Thanks for the reply.
You can tether on ec10 IF you install jt's new ec10 voodoo kernel. With the new kernel, new rom, and wireless tether for root, it works pretty good. I use it to tether my g tab.
Btw, theres a link in our dev section to jt's kernel thread. If you need help finding it let me know.

Yes, we do, but that app is linked to uscc's tethering subscription plan that will cost you an extra $25 a month. Unless you already pay for that service, a third party tethering app is the safe (cheap) route. If you pay for that service, then by all means, use the included uscc app. It'd probably be easier to use.

Thanks for the EC10 Voodoo kernel link. May I ask what "new rom" you are running to enable tethering?
I just flashed the EC10 PnP v0.3 ROM but still get the same issue enabling USB tethering with the message saying I need to enroll in USCC tethering plan.
Thanks for the info.

That's simply a stock warning built into the app. Unless you go over your cap uscc won't know you are tethering. Many people have used that app with no problem.

I've used the stock tethering app multiple times without paying uscc twice for the same data total bs fee! Anyways as long as you don't use tons of data you should be good. 3g watchdog is a good app with a widget to track data usage. edit:
i got it to work, i had to move su from xbin to bin...
Doesn't 2.2 have it as part of the build options? Could we maybe get the Froyo tethering app ripped from another device or does this have to be built into the kernel?
I had to uninstall mine using titanium backup, then reinstall and it worked fine.

I had been using Barnacle, which didn't work with 2.2 until I checked Skip wpa_supplicant.

i believe that has to be built into the kernel to allow such a thing.
I initially installed Wifi Tether with the Rooted 2.1 kernel. Then after testing to make sure I was rooted... flashed to Froyo... and everything still works.
So I was just browsing in the Fascinate's android development forum and saw this title: EC10 Voodoo Kernel.
They haven't been heavily tested, but IRC seems relatively content with them. Mind you, these were never meant for the Fascinate, but the Mesmerize.

So I hope these do work, I'm doing a nandroid backup now to test it I will update once done.

Update: I just installed the Voodoo kernel, cleared my dalvik and cache, and rebooted. It took forever and there is an silver "android" logo ontop of our USCC banner (if your still running the stock boot animation) but it boots just fine I have had no boot loops, I reenabled Voodoo lagfix and got the following scores with a slight response speed up.
Quadrant: 1601, 1435, 1569, 1559
I'm going to leave it the scores are like 150 more than before so I guess I'll take it until the full Voodoo kernel built off source comes out.
Its the same on we have already just for fascinate

Do not flash stuff from their forum. The EC10 voodoo kernel was built to be generic for this specific purpose, plus it was built off of our source so it works fine. IF you start flashing their other kenel's you will drop off us cellular's service and be in a whole heap of trouble, and no nandroid's don't always bring you back to normal.
be patient and only flash what's been recommended, if you start going off the chart's don't expect help from us as we have warned you .
EC10 voodoo kernel posted by JT yesterday/today does in fact work on our phone, we're not sure if the market will see us as verizon or not but it seems everything else is compatible. Stay tuned!
well good thing this is the only thing i jumped on then. thanks for the heads up as always greatly appreciated!

I am attempting to follow the "Newbie's Step-by-step" guide for the Showcase on Cellular South. I have rooted my phone and downloaded the files needed to install RomManager and Clockworkmod Recovery (I haven't installed everything yet, still getting the hang of my root file manager).
Before I continue on, I wanted to make sure that I have the correct version of Voodoo for my phone. I am using a stock but rooted 2.1 os that comes standard on the Showcase. I followed the link to the Voodoo Kernel thread to download the zip file but kept getting error messages from the dropbox site. After a bit more looking, I found a Showcase Voodoo kernel. The name of the file is eb11_voodoo.zip
Is this the correct version for my phone?
I have been reading these forums for several days looking for this answer.
I would assume that since I would be replacing the kernel of the stock os that it would not matter what the original os version was, but I want to be absolutely sure.
Also, is it possible to use the Voodoo kernel while maintaining the rest of the stock 2.1 os? I really just want to be able to use lagfix and voodoo audio controls.

Small world im from brookhaven too!... But to answer your question that zip is for EB11 2.2 not 2.1. I am not sure right off what kernels are available for 2.1. I upgraded to 2.2 with the modem and used OTB 1.6 kernel when i did my phone. You should try pnp v1 for showcase it is a pretty safe and basic rom for staying close to factory and gives you 2.2.
According to cell south's Facebook page, they are suppose to release 2.2 for the showcase by the end of the week if you can wait. If not you will need a dj20 2.1 voodoo kernel.

You should probably just wait until cellular south releases 2.2, then use a voodoo kernel. I don't know of any voodoo kernels for 2.1 that include the audio controls.

UPDATE: 9/1/2011 EH17 Hotspot Hack
UPDATE: 8/17/11 - Redownload EH06HotspotHack.zip if you downloaded it before 11:50AM on 8/17/11 pacific time, as I have reverted back to the last bit of hacked code for framework.jar. The expanded code I tried to allow it to use wasn't playing along nicely.
UPDATE: 8/16/11 - EH06 version complete. Here's a message to sprint/samsung - why you adding BS code to the functions I'm modifying? Tsk tsk.
To all users - I will not be supporting _ANY_ EG22 rom stuff anymore, as nearly all of the roms are deodexed incorrectly (too old of baksmali version) and have plenty bugs. Leaving the files attached for any lone EG22 users.
EH06+ only from now on.
Enjoy the tethering users!
VIDEO from qbking documenting process: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ql-HQBQvf3c
EH17HotspotHack.zip = DEODEXED EH17 ONLY
EH06HotspotHack.zip = DEODEXED EH06 ONLY
EG22HotspotHack.zip = DEODEXED EG22 ONLY
SRF1.2HotSpotHack.zip = SRF 1.2 ONLY (EC05 _MIGHT_ WORK, TEST!!)
BonsaiB14HotspotHack.zip = BONSAI B14 ONLY
UrbRegen111HotspotHack = Urban Regeneration 1.1.1 ONLY
Report bugs in the thread. Thanks
NOTE: REQUIRES DEODEXED ROM
NOTE2: This hack renames "Sprint Hotspot" to "Wireless Hotspot"! If it's not renamed - it didn't install correctly! 3 finger recovery boot and try installing again!! (CWM issue, bug them to fix it)
NOTE3: Files modified are /system/app/Settings.apk & /system/framework/framework.jar & /system/framework/services.jar
NOTE4: epichackedhotspot.zip attached is legacy for use on EF02 deodexed. I will not be making a 4G version for EF02 - use EG22 from now on seeing as it's better in nearly all ways.
NOTE5: Yes, I know the installer for my zips all say for EG22. The files in the zip are correct for the version you downloaded, though.
Special thanks to frogor for being a broskito
Thanks to chris41g for packaging up the zips and rounding testers (flimsy you whiner here you go ) up for me
Thanks to dodgejcr for figuring the stupid compression bug out
very nice cant wait to try
Awesome, downloading now.
And, no body else seems to have much trouble making flashable .zips? I'm not taking a crack at you, just maybe PM one of the guys around here.

Apparently it's due to the fact winrar/windows zip cannot create a zip CWM will recognize, even when implicitly told to not compress stuff.
About to upload a .zip with a modified Settings.apk and the framework.jar. This gets rid of the "Sprint Hotspot" name and changes it to "Wireless Hotspot."
Looks cleaner to me.
Wow this thread should take off here very shortly. Congrats and thanks.

Wireless Tether is an issue, WiFi Tether has been working fine for since it came out(3.0-pre14), have used it on Froyo and Gingerbread.
No joy with this hack, starts fine but won't allow my laptop to connect. Good news is that it doesn't interfere with WiFi Tether functionality so I can keep messing around with it to see what I can do with it.

What errors are you seeing in logcat?
What exactly is happening?
The files in this update zip _CAME_ from Chris41g's EF02 plus, which I am running right now with these hacks, so there's no reason they shouldn't work for you..
Also, this more than likely will ONLY work with Chris41g's EF02 stuff, especially if there are modifications in his Settings.apk that are particular to his ROM.
Let me know what you come across and I'll see what I can do. If it turns out it's because of my Settings.apk modification I can always remove that/put it in a separate zip for those who want "sprint hotspot" renamed.
Thanks!
(For those too anxious to wait for another zip - install it and restore your ROM's custom Settings.apk. Make sure you're only applying this to EF02! This stuff will SURELY only run on EF02 based ROMS! I am able to modify other frameworks for 2.2 etc but I need a copy of the framework.jar from the particular build/rom you use so I can perform the modification.)

The main thing that bugs me about Wireless Tether is a) it doesn't interact with our device correctly (look up the ANDROID_TETHER intents and WIFI_AP intents and see what I'm saying) and b) whenever you stop it (on ef02, anyway) it reboots the phone. This was with the latest beta.
The built in stuff is made by samsung for the phone, and communicates with the rest of the OS using certain intents that are very useful. It also works very well in my day or so of testing. (Uninstalled android wireless tether right away )

I believe to tether without paying AT&T you can just remove the tethering manager app with Titanium Backup. However I believe a custom kernel is necessary to do this. You should back up both the tethering app and all other data and apps using Titanium. I always do a CWM backup as well just for safe measure on anything I do. If you do need to flash a kernel you can use SGS Flasher (find in google play) or Zen's Infuse Toolkit (do a search in Infuse Development to find this). I prefer the Infuse TK over SGS. This is becayse the infuse toolkit also includes 3 different kernels for you to flash. Not to mention the overall versatility and accessibility of the toolkit.
Hopefully someone else can confirm all this as well. I hope this does help out though.
