Wow...thought it was just me. I like the phone but I seriously thinking about selling it on ebay before the folks at ATT realize that they won't be able to give away this phone for free. I keep trying to look past the hype about the phone and find something positive to say about it and I really can't find much. The Wifi and bluetooth are horrible. HTC decided to go the rout of the iPhone and have a none replaceble battery and no expansion slot. If I wanted that I would have got the iPhone. I stuck with Android because they were different then the iPhone...after this release I don't know. And then they make the phone so light and plastic like that you really don't feel like you paid for anything. If I wanted that I would have bought samsung phone...LOL!!!

I must be one of the few... since upgrading from the original 1.73 I've had zero problems....

Yeah I have the HTC Vivid and the One X, the Vivid has all full wifi bars and the One X is laying right next to it with 1 wifi bar flickering on and off. I have to keep toggeling the wifi off and on to get it to download anything. Today I swapped the sim card with a sim card adapter to used my Vivid all day with no problem. Now that I have been using the Vivid I'm thinking about selling the One X.

I'm hoping I'm in my 30 day window when the GS3 comes out, I just want to exchange it

My Wifi issues subsided with 1.82 and still now with 1.85. Strange that an update would solve the issue for some and not others... Only significant problem I have now is the ****ty multitasking.

Well it surely not the worst phone HTC has ever put out, but surely not the best quality wise. The Vivid is a much more solid feeling phone and not plastic feeling, but the sense 4.0 is nice on the HTC One X...still not enough to make me want to keep it, because i'm sure sense 4.0 will be ported for the HTC vivid soon now that the One x has been released. I have about 2 weeks left before I can return it..but I don't want to pay a 35.00 restocking charge.

I'm having issues with WiFi too (doesn't disconnect from WiFi when out if range)...but when its connected its very strong and never loses its signal.
I don't know what problems you're having with blue tooth, but I haven't had any problems. I run with the phone using wireless headset, stream music to my computer and use hand free in car. Bt seems to be ok.
I'm fairly certain that all of us that have WiFi problems will get it resolved with future radio updates. Its still a very new phone.

(counting my blessings)... i'm running CleanROM 2.1 and have no wifi issues here. when i'm out of range it disconnects and when i'm back in range it connects without issue. my Advanced WiFi settings only has Network notification checked, and that was the default setting. as an FYI, i'm using a FiOS ActionTech router (have no clue who the maker is) and a D-Link router as well. i also do not have any task killers running in the background.
bluetooth with my car and my Q2 and Plantronics Headsets is working without issue as well. (hope i don't have to return later and edit this post!)

All this talk about how horrible it is and we haven't even had an update yet. Why don't you wait to pass judgment untill the official update? Which update are y'all takin about anyway? The Asian 1.88? Or the week old 1.85? None are official updates, they are leaks. You can't judge the phone off of unofficial leaks.. At least wait for something official before you put the noose around it. I've had most of the flagship devices and this is by far the best even with bugs. They will get fixed.
Edit Bluetooth hooked up to my pioneer avic bt130 sounds amazing (slacker, tune in, spotiffy, audio galaxy) with hertz audio mille components front and rear and 2 12w6s in the trunk. I sometimes forget and think I'm on iPod (aac 256 & losless) input

I'm on 1.85 and still have wifi issues. So I turned back on best wifi performance and its just as good as my iPhone 4s was with wifi and I don't think it uses much more battery. My at&t signal is no ware near as good as my iPhone. I'm hopping they fix that. The phone seems to have a lot less lag on 1.85

Sensation or wait?

I know that the sensation might not come to AT&T...so should I get an unlocked sensation our wait for the HTC Holiday that's coming to AT&T...btw is the sensation a LTE compatible phone?

If I could turn back time I will go to the exact day that I order my sensation. The worst HTC device in history for me. Can't wait to get s-off so i can fix this s**t phone and make it amazing. It all depends on you if you want to wait but you will need to wait for s-off and a new firmware to solve all the problems in this phone wish are a big list.
loving my sensation ever since the day i bought it XD you could buy the one with the att frequencies if you wanted it on att but yet again you could also get the galaxy s2. i say get the sensation and just wait for s-off, itll be worth the wait
After reading all the problems the Sensation has like:
Dust under screen
Touchscreen unresponsive
reboots
Deathgrip
LED notification almost invisible..
I have decided not to buy it, I had the cash in hand, everything planned to go after work to buy it, but i decided to check XDA.... I postponed my purchase.
keeping my HD2 until iP5 arrives or issues with this phone are fixed.

issues reported on XDA are always overrated. I own 2 Sensations with no issues. I have four friends with Sensations who also have no problems. You must remember that people who have a phone that works great out of the box are not likely to start a thread saying "my sensation works great" but the people who have a negative experience will post my "buttons are stuck"...I can guarantee that more people have purchased a "problem free" Sensation than those who have purchased duds....Also if you are purchasing a Sensation for AT&T be sure to get the Canadian version so that you can use the 4G/3G otherwise you will be stuck with Edge
I've had the Ion, Nexus One, Droid 2, and Incredible. The Sensation is easily the best purchase I've ever made. Zero complaints and it's about to get even better with s-off.

My issues :
Reboots that happens a few times a day depending how much I use my phone.
Glitches on widgets 3rd party ones makes me restart sense a few times a day.
Touchscreen unresponsive sometimes.
WiFi death grip.
I dont believe this is dodgy hardware its all too do with firmware so not everyone will have same experience since we don't all use same firmware.
People are free to speak there issues that why this is XDA so we can help each other.
My first 3 Sensations had various issues listed however out of the 5 I've seen in person, non have them have had dust under the screen. Eveb if it did, big deal. Return it for another. The one I'm using now is my 4th device and I have had it for 1 month with no issues at all. Not even the wifi deathgrip issue in landscape. My wife has a Sensation as well and hers has had zero issues as well. In the end, any device can have issues and if you get one that does, RETURN IT. I returned 4 G2X's until I got a bug free phone. Its really not that big of a deal.
That being said. The only thing I don't like about the Sensation is the new version of Sense. HTC is moving in the wrong direction and instead of making it less intrusive, there making it more intrusive. Another thing they did was add too much useless eye candy which clearly bogs down the device. It also seems as if they forgot to optimize it. I put ADW on my Sensation 1 month ago and haven't looked back. It has made my Sensation faster than my G2X which I thought was impossible. A phones UI really can't get any faster. Everything now is pretty much instant.

I have zero issues with my sensation. I get good wifi signal even in landscape. No dust, no camera issues, and the led notification is plenty bright for me. I can actually see it through the grill. Great touch screen and very responsive. I haven't experienced any lag in the sense UI, I admit its not as smooth as my cm7 n1 or my captivate and atrix on launcher pro but its plenty fast for what it is. I have no regrets buying the sensation (bought it outright too) to replace my atrix. I've had my share of bad luck with other phones being lemons too but it seems I lucked out with this device.

Deathgrip is experienced in some fashion on all phones... But it is annoying especially on this "flagship"....
No dust under my screen
Ive only experienced screen freeze a handful of times.
Notification LED is nothing like BB, but iphones have none.... Just sayin..
Reboots... Random ones..? Zero.. But they are random my im sleeping when this happens. Atleast I'm not pulling the battery every two hours like BB...

There are a few issues out there. I'm actually on my 4th phone. 1st one kept freezing and headphone jack was tripping. I would tap the headphone jack and it would randomly start calling people. 2nd one would freeze way too much and the 3rd one, well, and I just wanted one with a screen with no scratches I'm hoping most of these issues will be fixed with a future firmware update.

Yes, we are aware of the bugs/problems with the Sensation. Not all of them suffer from these bugs. If you don't want to deal with bugs, don't buy a smart phone.

Nice one! Still, no offense, but it's madness that we let this happen by continuously buying 'flawed' smartphones.. Don't get me wrong, I've owned a few smartphones by now (touch pro, hero, desire and now sensation) but somewhere, it just nags me..
I second that. Being in Europe I should have bought an european Sensation. For 400 euros I got an asian Sensation (not the Hong Kong version!) and the only issues are Sense restarting once in a while and the phone getting hot from time to time while charging. I also have to nention that mibe us OC to 1512 MHz with On demand governor. Software: 1.35.707.1

+1 also no issues with my sensation, just a MINOR thing with the back cover comming a VERRY little loose on the one side, but i put a tiny piece of paper underneath and its perfect now, no complaints, no dust, no death grip... im sure if everyone made threads of good working sensations we would have way more than the faulty threads... u just unlucky if u get problems
Buy Sensation. The only problem I ever had were random reboots, but it didn´t happen for the last few weeks so I think everything works fine now. Perfect phone simply doesn´t exist. I´m in s-off waiting club either and I´m sure devs solve most of the current issues.

[Q] Sensation bluetooth fix?

I connected my motorla s9-hd bluetooth headphones to my sensation, and it constantly skips, so I thought it was the headphones. So i bought a Platonics bluetooth ear piece and it does the same thing.. They both work fine when the phone is 2 feet from the ear pieces. But if it's in my pocket or my hands are around it it breaks up. I read about the "grip of death" on this phone, and was wondering if anyone had a solution. I called HTC and they said they have no fix. Does anyone elses Sensation do this? Thanks, Nikko
Well HTC has some weird BT stacks, that could be the problem, but blue-tooth will always be effected by obstructions. I too have a s9-hd and ill try it out to see if i get the same problem.
I have the exact same issue. The headphones work great when connected to my MacBook, but when connected to my Sensation they constantly skip and cut out. I am waiting for CM7 as it should have better Bluetooth stacks.

I'm having the same problem with my phone. I can't get a reliable or even a passable connection on either of my headsets(S9 & Blueant T1) or my car stereo. The bluetooth on this phone is an absolute JOKE. It's barely functional & is easily the worst bluetooth performance of any phone I've ever had. It will pair & connect but I can't even turn my head while streaming audio without it skipping & cutting out, and that's with it just sitting on my desk in front of me, not being touched at all. I can't put it in my pocket or get more than 10 feet from it without it disconnecting completely either. I've tried various roms including CM7(the Kang build) & the problem persists with every one. I've been using my old HD2 for the past 2 days & both headsets work just fine with it so I know it's definitely the phone. This is absurd, I didn't pay $400 for this damn thing(early upgrade) just to NOT be able to use a common feature that even the cheapest dumbphones can manage to do right. T-Mo offered me a G2X when I called to request a replacement yesterday & I chose another Sensation just b/c I already have so many accessories for it, but if the new phone has the same problems I'm just gonna send it back & take the G2X. I think this phone just might be the end of my run with HTC >:|

Yes, there was no difference at all. Its definitely a design flaw. I ended up sending the refurb back anyway cause the damn earpiece speaker died in the middle of a phone call after 1 day.
Im gonna keep the sensation just cause I do have so much stuff for it, but as soon as the Hercules comes out I'm jumping the HTC ship. I'm done with their form-over-function BS. I'll take an ugly, 'plasticky' phone that works well over a solid, pretty one that's full of glitches >:/
What ROM are you running? I have a motorola s305 Bluetooth headset, and I experienced the skipping issue on the stock ROM. After I switched to a ROM with less garbage running in the background and/or an overclocked kernel, the problem went away. I think the problem stems from a busy CPU.
Android Revolution (3.1.0), Insert Coin (2.2.5 sse w/bricked kernel 0.91) and Cyanogen Mod 7 Alphas 1, 2, 4 and 6 have all played back by music with less or no skipping. Insert Coin is the best for me.
I am using mike's 3.6.1 de Rom
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using xda premium
Also want to put this out there. I was reflashing a few things and tried out the older faux kernels and such and came across that the kernel actually borked my bluetooth all together. I tried pairing and nothing worked. I rebooted a few times to no avail. I reverted to stock kernel and now all works and bt still works fine for me.

I've had some odd problems like that too. I go back and forth between CM7 alphas and insert coin and sometimes on switching back to IC (by restoring a NAND backup with working bt) bt is just broken. I can sometimes get it to work by deleting my headset from the "pairing" list. Not quite the same as your problem, I know, but it does seem like bt is sensitive to changes in the kernel. Like I said before, bricked 0.91 at 1.53gHz works with effectively no skipping (only ocassional delays on locking the screen).
It skipped for me with the stock Rom as well. If its directly in front of me it works fine.. also (altittle off subject) how is everyone's battery life. On the new de mine is horrible! 3.2 with the dual core patch was awesome

I never had that short range problem that you are describing. Worked fine on sense based roms. But I do know that htc uses screwy bt drivers. I switched to cm7.1 and I believe they are the normal bt drivers for android. You might give it a try and see if perhaps your range increases or whatever other problems go away.
ya i have same problem put phone in pocket = bluetooth sucks

[Q] Wi-Fi Problem still exists in HTC Desire S? - Want to buy soon

Hello Friends,
I am new here and I am interested in buying HTC Desire S
But I saw here and on various other forums/websites, that there's a major WiFi signal loss problem when the device is held in Landscape Mode
So, this problem still exists? I love this phone as it's awesome and in my budget and my main usage will be by means of Wi-Fi
Kindly help
Thanks and Regards
Even though i knew that it has serious issue of poor reception and signal drop, i still bought it as i love this phone. And the answer to your question is,
Yes. it still has poor reception.
Now its up to you if you want to buy it or not.
Is it a Hardware Defect?
I have read somewhere, after FOTA update the problem is gone/rectified a bit
Anyways, I am disappointed
I never noticed a signal drop at mine, except that it lasts a little til it gets the full signal back after returning from sleep, but that's cause of my settings.
Maybe it has to do with my radio image.
You find it (and the related thread) at my signature.

The problem was reduced after the OTA, all depends if you use the phone to type when in landscape mode (something I never do) depends on your size (or the size of your hands I reckon!)
Great device!
The Wi-Fi does indeed lessen if held in a certain manner - but because I have a very strong signal from my router it never drops out completely. I imagine it could be an issue if your base signal is low to start with.

Welcome to XDA! Yes I'd agree with previous post. Only really an issue if your router is far away to begin with. And being aware of the cause (covering the camera lens area with your hand) means that in a vast majority of cases, you shouldn't have any serious issues with signal drop.
It's a fantastic phone. Since buying mine nearly six months ago I've not had a single instance where I've had a signal drop out whilst I've been trying to use WiFi. You have to TRY to make it drop out in my experience.
Hey friends
Thanks a lot for all your responses
Just wanted to show you this video from YouTube: www . youtube . com / watch?v=qd7XdLmAFUo - See how that guy is holding the phone in Landscape Mode
I don't think, I am (rather say no one is) going to hold the phone in that way while using it on Wi-Fi
Anyways I have following questions:
1. What happens if the phone is lying on Table which is made from either of wood/metal? Will it get disconnected from Wi-Fi
2. HTC Desires S got Android 2.3.5 and HTC Sense 3.0 updates in UK and these updates are getting displayed as a pop-up notifications and are completely dependent on Mobile Operator one is using.
So, do you know/think, in India (Vodafone/AirTel), HTC gives updates by means of Network Operators. Or we have to install the Updates manually after hunting for them
Once cleared, I will jump and order the Phone online
Thanks a lot
P.S. I am new to Android

1. Never noticed any problems.
2. Maybe, but when I think no one could say^^ But if you take a look at the development section there are many sense 3 and also some sense 3.5 roms based on 2.3.5, if you don't want to wait till it's official release. Without sense you could also get Android 2.3.7 within cyanogen^^
All newcomers are welcome, there are many guids to help you getting started
Swyped from my Desire S
Definetly have problems here.
I have compared it to my other devices, and the desire s has the weakest signal, when far away from the router. It's a realy pain when im upstairs and want to use WiFi.
It also drops a bit when I cover it up with my hand.
The 'fixes' they have around, and built into custom kernels don't seem to work for me either
It's a real pain for me everytime I lose signal and have to reconnect!
It's a shame for me, but other than that I highly highly recommend this phone! It is really good!

It's strange, I get a good Wi-Fi signal anywhere in the house with no problems.
If I cover the plastic top rear panel of the phone with my hand, the signal strength does go down a bit, but it's never been a problem.
Maybe it's like the GPS - I find that the case I bought degrades my GPS reception, yet other people with the same type of case seem to experience no problems.
Overall though, I like this phone despite the imperfections. I don't regret buying it.
Its a very good phone for the price.
India does not have a FOTA update yet but to install custom roms or sense 3.0 you will have to root your phone.
As far as wi-fi goes i have had slight problems with the device but it was solved by using the wi-fi fix and also by custom kernels so go ahead!
I tried to make my phone lose wifi signal but only when i really cover up every part of the back of the phone i see some difference.
But when using normal i never experience any loss.

Though I need expert advice/suggestion from Gurus/Masters here: Should I buy SGS+?
Please help
Thanks and Regards

Sgs plus looks nice! It's 1.4ghz and I've seen some videos, its nearly as fast as Sgs2!

I personally hate Samsung, so go with HTC

[Q] Does this phone have more problems then most other androids?

I've been watching the forums for this phone for a while now and it seems that this phone has alot of problems.
I'm not bothered about the chipping as IMO the phone still looks good when it's there, however I've seen signal, charging, home button and notification problems. I know there are more but is there more than average and how many problems does the average One S have?

Well its hard to give an averaage really, guess most people have their "favorite" issue
Mine is chipped to hell and back (black version bought in april), but I'm used to my phones acquiring a Mad Max style patina. Other than that the notification light is stupidly faint and badly placed. Couldnt be happier with the phone though!
This is the place to go with problems, so you're getting a distorted view of this phone. The US version I have is in pristine shape, runs Jellybean great and is the best looking and feeling phone I have ever had. Would consider an SGS3, but that's about the only other comparable option.
i just got my phone and was worried about the same thing. i actually had a problem with the hardware button lights but was fixed by switching from stock to custom rom.
personally i love this phone. coming from sensation i had expectations and they were met.

I have the T-Mobile version with S4. I had weak signal and the notification problem with the T-Mobile software. After changing CID and installing the latest ruu (European_2.21), both problems are gone. For now I´m really happy with my One S.

[Q] Most temperamental phone I’ve ever owned

I’ve had my One S for 4 weeks now and every week brings a different problem plus it would appear to be worse since the 4.0.4 update.
1. Intermittent microphone problems.
2. Intermittent reboots with error reports.
3. Mobile data dropping out or won’t switch off or back on.
4. Complete loss of network signal after long period of shut down.
5. Aeroplane mode locked the phone completely requiring a reboot.
Don’ know whether to send back to the store who might not find anything wrong because most of the problems are intermittent, or contact HTC ???
Wish I had stuck with my One V!!!!
I don't have those issues, of course on viper's rom.
Can you tell us you serial nr. Of your phone?

You shouldn't type your whole Serial No. on the internet, that's not good. You can just type the first 4 characters.
@Delta, have you received my PM by any chance?

Have already done 2 factory resets since updating to 4.0.4 last week!!
If I were you, I'd send it to the carrier/HTC and ask for a replacement.

I have the loss of signal issue, mostly indoors. Never had that issue with my other phones. It is worrying me cause I just purchased this phone on a new contract and only have about 5 more days to decide if i want to keep them or not? With this issue and seeing all the terrible issues in the custom ROM's I am afraid I will hate this phone compared to my GNex. I understand Jellybean has not been officially released yet so there will be issues but is there any ICS ROM's that run without issues? My past experience with less popular phones is we can never get a truly great daily driver. Any reassurance will be greatly appreciated!

Response from HTC UK.
"For further testing, we would ask you to reset the phone without the SIM card in the phone(Hard resetting the phone will delete all data on the phone memory). Once the phone has completed the reset, test the phone with no Gmail or 3rd party applications on the phone. This will then confirm whether it is the phone or 3rd party software.
I am confident that this will resolve your query, in the unlikely event that this does not please call or instant chat to one of our Technical Support Agents who will be waiting to guide you through step by step. Our Contact Details can be found at www.htc.com/uk/contact"
no Gmail!!! I thought this was stock???

It is stock, some of these "agents" know less than a squirrel would, on their own software especially!

I'm having signal issues as well.
I got this phone last Thursday as a replacement to my Galaxy S2.
So far i'm getting less reception in my house than my S2 had.
Also, when I'm at work, it goes from Full 4G service, to NO bars, and then to 2G, and back to Full 4g. WTF?

Exactly the issue I am having on my new one s. Only have a few days to decide whether I want to keep it or not. It's not looking like a keeper! Never had the complete signal drops showing an X before. Texts keep getting denied til the service comes back.

I hear ya.
It's a shame because I REALLY like this phone. Feels great in the hand, build quality is fantastic, and overall it's super smooth and fast.
I hate to give it up, but I can't have signal issues like this at home. Even the wifi calling has had a couple issues so far.
I need my phone to work, plain and simple.
Thinking I might go with the Galaxy S3. Probably the only phone that will make me not miss this one so much.

I'm quite sure if you went with the Galaxy Nexus you wouldn't miss this phone either.
I suppose you have fought with your service provider just like I am right? HTC is telling me to try a different back cover and/or do a factory reset. they claim they are not hearing any issues like this with this phone. I kind of figured I would have issues because Cincinnati Bell does not get the best phones, I had major issues with their XT720. I should have known better. This is why I just bought the GNex from Google, I was gonna avoid signing a new contract then CBW offered me such a great deal on 5 new phones if I resigned so i went with it.
I just tested calls with my galaxy nexus and the HTC one S by calling each other and I got to say call quality with the HTC is much better. Louder and more clear. But I am running a sound volume tweak for my Gnex and it doesn't prove to be louder with in call volume. I will have to get rid of that tweak and see the difference

Problem is that I don't want to spend the money on the Nexus. I got the One S as a warranty replacement, so I'm not spending any money. I'd have to shell out cash to get the Nexus.

I reflashed my ROM on my GNex and now the sound quality for both are exactly the same.

Well if it is a new warranty replacement it comes with a new 12month warranty, sell the one S to earn the money for the GNex. I have both and personally I like the GNex better. So many ROM's and kernels to choose from and none of the issues with the Gnex that i see here with the One S. Besides, by the time the One S get's jellbean, Gnex will be getting Key Lime Pie!
I noticed something else today...
If I look closely at my screen, there seems to be some banding going on, as if there is radio intereference with the screen's signal. Like what happened on old tv's when the signal wasn't coming in perfectly clear.
Anyone else experiencing this???
