Right now I have one bar, now two. I would think it would be correct, but there is always the chance of hardware or software issue on your device. If you.check under network you can see if the signal dBm are changing.

I have 3+ bars, I just think it has to do with your location. I'm in an LTE market.
Well I live in Miami, and notice I always have 3 bars or more, but my data randomly stops working, making me think I lost connection and its really just lying to me

I live in Charlotte and rarely ever have less than 5 bars in this city. LTE as well. Loving it!
Also rarely get less than 3 bars. I'm in LTE market in Chicago and I think with the LTE signal being strong and penetrating building better, it just leaves us with much better signal. I haven't been out of a consistent LTE coverage area since I got the HOX, so I can't say if signal weakens much on HSPA+, but I assume it would. Overall, I've been blown away by reception on the HOX so far.
*glances up*
I have 3 bars. But... I do recall only having 1 on a drive once.

I've been noticing that for the last few days I can only get 2 bars anywhere in Dallas if the 4G-LTE symbol is present. If a call enterupts a data session and the phone drops to 4G, I get 4 or 5 bars. Is this normal? I used to get more bars and much faster internet.

The tower probably isn't broadcasting at full strength, I'm at 2 bars on LTE constantly also.
I really don't care, because 1 bar of LTE is faster then 5 bars of HSPA+, and that one LTE bar is still more stable then HSPA+.
What I notice is on LTE when I pull my phone out of my pocket I will have full bars of LTE then it will slowly drop down to one or two once I unlock the screen.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA App
I have noticed this all over north dallas, from the galleria area all the way to frisco. It wasn't like this a month ago. I use to get 4 or 5 bars and over 50 megabytes a second. Now I can only get 10 to 12 megabytes a second.

I have noticed an average of about that as well. The key spots that got 45± still do though. Those are always within a few hundred feet of an obvious/visible tower tho
Bars could be a number of things. Using a network info app we found last month that the skyrockets bars are nowhere near accurate
Showing 1-2 bars where another att phone (tested with orig gs2 and an inspire) showed more bars but signal strength was identical

I have not really been paying attention to my signal strength. I saw this thread earlier this morning. I took this screenshot at tollway and park in West Plano where I have always received 4 to 5 bars. Also checked several other places as I ran errands and did not noticed any differences. Did not run speed test.
I was at Preston and Frankford today, and I finally started seeing 4 bars, and about 35 mb/s. But I was also at Hillcrest and Alpha, and saw only 2 bars.
Interestingly enough, I did notice that sometime I have more bars on my home screen, then they drop back down to 2 almost as soon as I open my apps, just like Cyberguycpt stated. Maybe it's a coincidence, but it sure didn't seem so.
Mine have done that since release

Hehe, you were at Preston and Frankford? I live behind the Tom Thumb there. xD
Anyways, I've noticed that mine does the same thing. It has 4 bars, till I unlock, then it slows drops down.
Meh, I still get good speeds, so it really doesn't phase me.
Ive been on verizon for years and made the switch over to at&t to get the one x and have to say Im loving it. At&t has really made big improvements to there network as far as everywhere around my area goes.
Here is whats going on though:
Every now and then I can pull my phone out and turn the screen on to see it show full bars E then 5 seconds later it will change to full bars G then another 5 or so seconds full bars 4G. Its not a big deal but just wondering is it normal?
Another thing Ive noticed is when I leave my driveway of my house and get out of range of my wifi it will go to no service then to 4g. Its fairly quick but I dont remember it with any other phone Ive owned.
Could be signal issues with your towers or a sim card issue .

Yeh its more of a mental thing than anything. It hasnt every caused me problems as actually using the phone but watching it cycle through E-G-then 4G a few times every day is starting to get to me. I was having similar issues until I upgraded to the 1.88 RUU. Now I'm running CM9 with no data issues. I think it is the phone or rather the software. Data would stay on E but there was no signal. Had to reboot the doggone phone ever so often just to connect to data.

It can, but you basically have to use the back casing as a punching bag, and I suspect that you will probably crack the case before you cause the same issue.
When I turn vibration on under settings>sounds whenever the phone vibrates, it rattles pretty loudly. Maybe there is stuff loose back there and that's why my wifi fluctuates a lot.

There's something wrong with my wifi too (Rogers HTC One X) -- wifi signal strength is typically about 20dB worse (that's 100 times less signal power for those of you who aren't familiar with decibels) compared to my laptop or blackberry in the same location, and I get "not in range" on the phone when my laptop has 3-4 out of 5 bars. It doesn't seem like exactly the same problem as the international version, since I can't make it better by pressing the case by the camera and volume up, but it does seem like some kind of hardware/antenna issue.
(FWIW, I'm on version 1.94 software (Rogers OTA update), and I've selected "2.4GHz only", and "best wifi" in the settings)
I've noticed that mine fluctuates when I hold it in different ways. It's like the iPhone 4 grip problem when it first came out but this seems worse. I barely have to touch the bottom of the phone for the signal to drop. Also, I noticed that sometimes I can't connect to the same wifi hot spots as other phones / other devices I've had. It's like it doesn't have the same range.

Same here. As I type this I am watching the Wifi oscillate between one and four 'bars'. The other day the hox was dropping the connection altogether and I was constantly switching between 3g and wifi
When I first got my phone it would get into a cycle of losing Wi-Fi connection, switching to data, then back to Wi-Fi repeatedly. It kept doing this until I turned Wi-Fi off for about 5 minutes. It seems to not happen as much on a different ROM than stock.
This happened even with good signal. Also I don't have any signal issues, signal strength is always as strong as it should be.
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
I had Wifi issues when I first got my One X where I would get weak signal or it would constantly drop. Also, when i would go in to or out of a Wifi hot spot I would lose data for a few minutes unless I toggled airplane mode. Once I unlocked my phone and out on CleanRom, some of the issues seemed to be resolved. Now I am on CR 4.5 Dev and AT&T 2.20 radio and I don't have the issues anymore.

My wifi doesn't fluctuate, I just have bad signal all the time ;_;
Okay, I'm very particular about signal strength, no matter network signal or wifi signal. I heard one thing that affects this is by using the right radio and ril. However, I have used the most suitable one for my region. And, my signal is still very low if compared to my galaxy tab and my friend's galaxy s2. My question is, what other factor may affect signal strength? Kernel, etc?
Thanks in advance.

No kernel or other stuff don't affect your signal. Try to flash the suggested firmware for your ROM(they usually tell you which firmware to use). I tried swiching radios/RILs but I didn't notice any difference. I find my signal weaker than my iPhone 4, but I guess there's nothing I can do about it
If it's really annoying you you can get a signal booster for your home.they really work well, I have one. It's two boxes, one is placed by a window and it picks up the signal and brings it to the second box which amplifies it and sends it to your home. It works great as my home signal is now full strength where it was once one bar. The device I have is called CEL-FI .you can look it up online for more information. I'm telling you it really works great! So there is a solution . It is up to you and how bad the low signal bothers you. It really bothered me plus it was using more battery for the poor signal. I don't regret getting cel-fi for a second ! It makes a huge difference! Just something to consider. I hope I helped in some way. Best of luck to you. At least you know there is a solution to this issue. Best wishes.

Your welcome. I really enjoy my booster, there are mixed opinions about it but for me it's been a God send! I went from one bar to five bars in my home! Better for battery life too . I really notice a difference without it! It got un plunged once and I was wondering what happened to my signal, I realized the box was unplugged and plugged it back in and what a difference it made! It was amazing I immediately noticed the signal difference. I'm not the kind of person to rave about something if it doesn't work. For me this was the answer to my problem with the signal. There are different brands out there but I can only speak for cel-fi as I never tried the other brands. But it's so worth it! I hope this helps and check out the web sites and do some comparing, I'm sure you will find the right product that will solve your issue. Best wishes

from my experience, the signal boosters only work if you get a good connection outside the home as well. if you only get 2 bars while outside, forget about it lol
I was getting one bar INSIDE my home, this is why it worked out wonderfully for me. The problem for me was inside my home I got a pitiful signal. The box really made a difference!

So does anybody use their Skyrocket full-time in a non-LTE area?? I'm back home now for the holidays and don't have LTE here, and my battery literally went from 97% to 37% in 2.5 hrs with 49 mins of screen on and 59 mins of awake time. Meaning no significant wakelocks. Just the radio trying to find LTE. Is the battery always that terrible for you guys in non-LTE? I get a consistent ~18 hrs with 3 hrs screen on time while on LTE 24/7.
What do you guys do?? I tried flashing the Rogers radio and switching the Network Mode, but it does the same thing as on an AT&T radio - switches right back to LTE. I tried selecting the Network Operator but I never get any choices to even select AT&T like others report. *#2263# doesn't work on CM. I tried switching the mode in *#*#4636#*#* but it switched right back to LTE. What gives? (I'm on CM10.)

Sometimes when you move far distances they might have to reset something with the network. When I moved from pa to Florida they did some kind of network reset or something to my old iPhone. Not sure if they still do that or not. Now I travel from Texas to Louisiana and Mississippi a lot and I don't experience any battery tank. And I don't have lte in Louisiana or Mississippi. I get better battery life there then in Houston on lte.
Are you carrier unlocked? Even if you are I don't think cm10 based roms are able to switch network mode. That's if I remember correctly, which I could be wrong since I don't use that feature.

Yeah ask the rep, he probably knows more about how the network works. What's weird is, I've not had a battery drain when going to non lte areas and spending weeks there. It actually saves my battery. Here in Houston I hit 40mbps/s and it probably burns through battery 15% faster than non lte areas. I have strong signal in both areas. Usually -75 to -85dBm. So it's not a signal fluctuation issue. Do you have weak hspa signal in pa?

As I stated in the OP I tried both of those things and neither worked. I'm on Rogers radio on AT&T and not unlocked. I tried searching for Network Operator but all it does is flash a popup saying Searching and immediately disappears. I've clicked it a million times. Sometimes it takes slightly longer, but still never gives any results.
And then *#*#4636#*#* just switches the mode back immediately after I change it.
