Sim Unlock for S-OFF Aria! - HTC Aria Android Development

Seems someone has discovered how to generate sim unlock codes for HTC devices. Found this over on the Vivid forum, but tried it with my Aria and it seems to work (gotta try it out with my friends T-Mo SIM tomorrow to be sure):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1681145
Don't for get to donate!

Tested it and it worked perfectly.
Edit: It seems that it only works for certain networks - Didn't work with a T-Mobile SIM card, but it did work with a PureGSM SIM.

Same, file operation reports success.

Textural success too
It worked, in as much as it matched the output of the original thread's output. If I get my hands on a different SIM, I'll report actual success...

i couldn't get it to work on my CM9 build.... first time i ran it , ran without an actual sim card in the phone , it never got to IMEI checking though , it just failed , tried it again , sent out another mail and it didn't work like 4 times
afraid to do it on my daily Aria

Are you S-OFF? You must be S-OFF and currently only AlpharevX or an XTC clip are known to gain S-OFF on the Aria.

Actually, I was mistaken. Alpharev.nl is deprecated and Revolutionary.io is the preferred (only?) software S-OFF for Aria.

HTC aria , running CM9 updated to 2.2 stock , then rooted , then flashed roms
i have revolutionary s-off
hboot 6.02.1002
can't get it to work
open mccmnc file fail
open CID file fail
process done , reboot device ?
press volume up

So I got a chance to try it with a co-workers T-Mo SIM and it didn't work even though all the screen messages looked right. Oh Well.

Alpharev(X) and unrEVOked joined teams to create Revolutionary. Yes, Revolutionary is the preferred method to S-OFF the Aria (with the required HBOOT).

got it to work on another SD card tho

ok so it worked with another SD card on the first try ... weird but cool
so does anyone know if this will persist through updates , rom flashing , and or upgrades
and is it safe to run again at a later date....
how serious is the change of what was done ??
just curious if this can hurt in any way

This method doesn't seem to like Partitioned SD cards.
It tried it with a non-partitioned one and it worked.
However, I then tried a T-Mobile SIM and it didn't work, asked me for the code. :/

doesn't work it seems ....... tried a tmobile sim card today , and it asked for the unlock code , tried to skip and didn't do anything

hi.
the same for me.
fat32 init ok
reading config.dat [37]bytes
open CID file fail
wait for AMSS ready...
get device IMEI success
IMEI cheking ... PASS!
process done , reboot device?
after reboot it again asks for 8 digit network unlock code

[Q] Validation error: Backup CID missing

Hello everyone,
I recently got this HTC desire shipped from Hong Kong. It contains certain preloaded apps in chinese that I am unable to get rid of. I tried rooting it with unrevoked 3.32 however I get the error Validation error: Backup CID missing... Are there going to be any future releases of unrevoked that would fix this problem or am I never going to be able to root the phone in order to remove this crap!!
i got mine on ebay and it is T-Mobile branded, i tried to root it several times with Unrevoked 3.32. i got the same error: validation error....... don't know how to do
@rishu88: after few hours of searching and trying methods founds on xda dev and others site, i found that we need a goldcard before rooting. i created my own goldcard then rooted with unrevoked 3.32. just one thing, before using your SDcard do a full format on windows with fat32 (not a rapid format) it'll take a while but it's better look at here for how to creat a goldcard: UnlockR
hope i'm helping you mate

no need of a zip file to get root access, you just have to creat your gold card, insert it in your desire, download Unrevoked and follow this tuto, and all is done
Doesn't work
I created my glod card, and used unrevoked 3.32, but still get the same error, Validation error : Backup CID missing, My phone is htc desire , orange branded.

hello Gabis and welcome to XDA-DEV forum my htc desire also was orange branded and with SLCD sceen not Amoled but i followed the steps from that site and i rooted it using unrevoked; just one thing, not all memorycards can be gold cards try a kingstone 2Gb, almost everyone has confirmed that it works! personally i used a sandisk 2Gb and the 2nd try, it works. when the goldcard is ready and operational, unrevoked can root your Desire without any problem. we'll stay in touch, okay? peace.
Guys, I had the same problem, HTC Desire, 2.2, branded Orange, but found this guide and it worked like magic. No goldcard needed or anything.

I used the first method described. Good luck

Debranding the Sensation

Correct me if I'm wrong but if I was to get a Vodafone UK Sensation could I debrand it via the gold card method using the Europe RUU or is the locked bootloader gonna pose an issue?
+1 for an answer. I saw that little box thingy for generating gold cards and wondered if that would work.
I've been waiting for some info to come up on debranding too. But I didnt know if it would be possible until the unbranded handsets come out.

no you wont, since you'll be changing the bootloader. so no chance of jumping ship from voda branding
Thought as much, waiting for the unbranded handsets to be released then I'll get one of them - assuming it's actually any good
Or get your phone from Vodafone unbranded like me!

You won't be changing the bootloader by unbranding it.
If you get a goldcard to work, you just flash over the shipped HTC stock ROM.
However, I have been having problems with the goldcard method. I can create the card, but the CID check still fails when running the ROM off the card.
have u tried running the RUU

No, but I guess it will fail anyway, since the CID check failed for the ROM on the SD card via bootloader, I imagine it will fail via the RUU also.
Does the phone need to be connected via HTC Sync to run an RUU? Or just connected via Charge only?
You can run it in FASTBOOT, going by other HTC handsets

Hmm. Might be worth a try. But I am sure the CID check will fail.
Update: I tried the RUU using the fastboot method, and again, it failed on the CID. Everything was going well until then.
We need someone else to try with a goldcard on their device. Mine doesn't work at all
Has there been any progress with this? I'd really like to debrand if poss.

Which SD card are you using?
I tried to de-brand a friend's Hero once using the Goldcard method. Using his 4GB Kingstone didn't work, then I tried my 2GB SanDisk and it went right through.
Hi.
just some questions to get things straight.
My English isn't "DA bomb"
If i could use the GoldCard method i could install every ROM i like right?
But if there's an other ROM i would like to install can you flash it just like that? Or do i need the GoldCard method again?
Sorry for the misunderstanding but my English isn't perfect
Thanks in advance

Using Goldcard, you can ONLY install signed ROMs, i.e. official ROMs.
But we don't think it works correctly sadly.

I could give it a try... It would be nice to have an official ROM without the Vodafone branding. Thx for clearing it up for me !!
I'm new to HTC, if I wanted to try debranding, where do you get the roms from?
Does the Goldcard-method or other methods work on the sensation ?
Because i bought the sensation yesterday with vodafone branding and i hate it
When the sensation is debranded i can install only official roms in the moment, right ?
I tried again, to flash the HTC 1.27 ROM, and I get a signature error. I get a CID error with the HTC 1.24 ROM. That's using a 2GB Kingston SD card for my goldcard. I'm starting to think it doesn't work
Where did you get the roms from?
I dont even know where to start looking, is there a site like samfirmwares for htc?
EDIT:
nmv just found the thread in the dev section on here.

Solved [Q] HTC Desire Stuck on Fastboot s-on :(

Hi
Please help me my HTC Desire S stuck on fastboot and bootloader after change the hboot to 0.98.0000 s-on
i cant using adb to change the hboot ;(
i cant install my official rom ruu htc saga ara 1.36.415.1 ;( error 140 i dont know why my current rom 1.47.415.1 and i did that before
i cant install ruu htc saga europe 2.10.401.5 ;( error 131
i cant create goldcard cuz i dont know the sd card cid "i cant using adb on fastboot"
Plz tell me what can i do???
Well, I'm not sure there is a lot to do when you're S-ON. But I would give Android Flasher a try. It worked for me, even if adb couldn't recognize my phone.
Thanx my friend i will try it
Android flasher doesnt work with hboot S-ON.
U can make gold card on other android device. And then, u can run RUU Europe 1.28.
If you can't, you can take to Services or S-OFF by XTC-clip
I had the same problem, but do not dispair you can fix this.
Obviously one point you have missed on the whole goldcard thing is that you dont have to use ADB or your bricked phone to find out the CID, put it into a card reader and use your PC. So onto making yourself a goldcard.
The process of creating one is rather hit and miss, but I eventually got one to work. Make sure you use an MicroSD card that is 2GB or smaller as any larger than this and it's a SDHC card and wont work. I used a old 1GB Sandisk card my girlfriend had spare. Have a look on the forums for a goldcard.exe file to run on windows to simplify the process, I found this worked when the forum described method did not. Keep trying with this as it took me many attempts to get a working goldcard.
From your post it sounds like you want to install the cool new Android 2.3.5 with Sense 3.0. Your problem is your phone will not take the European RUU 2.10.401.5 as your phone is from another region - 1.47.415.1 (india?) and got screwed up in the process. The bold part of the software version number relates to region. Mine was from Thailand and the european update worked when installed with my goldcard.
When you have your goldcard created you need to extract the ROM.zip file from the RUU (just run the exe and look in your PCs temp directory whilst the exe is open, it unpacks itself there) and then rename this to PG88IMG.zip. Put this file onto your goldcard and then power on your Desire S whilst holding the Vol. down button.
If you still get errors like 130 or 140 your goldcard is not made correctly, so try again.
Once you have the new update working take yourself to htcdev.com and unlock the bootloader, then you can flash CWM recovery and root it as well.
Hope this helps
thanxxxxxxxxx all really i miss these solutions because i was very confuse
thanx again for all i will try it and give u my feedback

One tiny correction on this part, I use a 16GB SanDisk Class 6 GoldCard. Means its an SDHC and I haven't had any problems with it.

***LOCKED***Security Warning on bootloader

Hi all,
I have tired to flash the new Rom yesterday and during checking the signature device reboot and installer said that it can not proceed.
After reboot phone goes directly into fastboot and gives ***Locked*** with Security Warning massage. I have tried different RUU but it is exactly the same.
Installation is failing on the checking signature.
I have tried Unrevoked3 but it is not able to find the device. Could you please let me know how to do it?

I have tried to find an answer but no luck so far, I am quite new to this. Is there anyone who can point me in the right direction?
Another solution is to try the RUU 2.10.401.8
I had some problems with the same Ruu, but not with the signature, and the previous version worked flawlesly.
What's your CID?
Sent from my HTC Desire S
I have tried few others RUU and every single of them is falling during the installation.
ok I manage to unlock the device finally
But again it is falling during the installation of a new ROM. Do I have to revert back Hboot to 0.98 before installation? if so how to do it?
So the RUU that I recommended completed successfully?
What do you want to do next?
Now you are S-ON, if you want to install custom roms you have to unlock your bootloader with the htcdev method(you will lose your warranty and need to flag manually the boot file) or to downgrade.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Tab
I want to downgrade the phone to orginal ROM T-mobile uk. So I could take off the simlock, I have put the unlocking code yesterday but nothing happens. I was advised to downgrade the rom and should be ok.
Could some help me out with my problem please when ever I am trying to upload new rom it is stuck on signature verification.
I will quote Enigmaamit as he said it better than me:

The only way to SIM-unlock your phone yourself is a XTC clip... better ask your phone operator.
I know the diffrance between those two, I have ordered unlocking code. After putting this into device when ever I put into new sim card it stoped nofifing me about it. But it is not able to find a new network. Below what I have receive form operator:
"It said "Successful" but nothing has happened
Darren
posted this on Apr 11 16:22
This has happened to a handful of customers who have all had one thing in common - the phones have been "rooted".
By rooting a handset the owner has removed some of the restrictions on the phone, which allows the owner to install whichever software of the phone that they wish. Unfortunately this has caused some issues when an unlock code has been entered.
It is easily rectified by reinstalling the original operating system that the phone was supplied with, then applying the unlock code and the phone should be unlocked, truly, successfully.
You can then reinstall the software you had on the phone before attempting the unlock and continue using the phone as you wish."
So that is the reason why I am trying to revert any changes.
i for one don't believe this
So their replay is bull**** in that case?
In my opinion yes(i can't say that i am a very experienced user) but i like to think i know some stuff about this.
I can't imagine what custom rom/Ruu version/app will "block" you to sim unlock your phone.
The only restrictions may be made by the phone manufacturer.
So i will try through HTC Clip in that case. But why I can upload any new RUU?
like i said earlier, i had some problems to with the 2.10.401.9 ruu.
Try the 2.10.401.8 it should work, if your phone is branded try a gold card.

[Q] s-off = sim unlock ? JB SuperCID?

Hi,
Does anyone know if s-off will unlock the locked devices?
Is there anyway to super CID JB rom ? Because the update puts write protection to system files.
Thanks
The file in question /dev/block/mccblkp04 is not much as protected as is virtual file. It get loaded (created) at boot and reside in memory. When you restart - any changes are gone. It is virtual file - not physical. I was able to change attributes and write to this file, but after reboot - the changes was gone. I am suspecting that to get supercid we need to look and boot image. I am not that good, but maybe someone with more knowledge will be able to do it.

it will unlock almost everything, but some things require an eng-hboot
not yet. latest jb ota (tmob jb update and eu ota ****.9) are problematic.
on the eu jb *****.8 there was no problem getting supercid and thus s-off.
S-Off means security off and has nothing to do with Sim unlock. thats diferent.
and about Super CID is something diferent too. in other words you could have a S-off and Super CID phone and still be Sim locked.
My phone doesn't have the unlock code used to create the SIM unlock code. I tried everything with no luck. Every tutorial didn't help as the file needed doesn't exist. Is there a way to do it with s-off ? Radio change?

Try doing factory reset and then follow This tutorial
Believe me I tried, I even ran the ruu with no change.
My phone was serviced by HTC after a brick occurred and they relocked it and changed the imei.
