skype on the g2x - T-Mobile LG G2x

anyone else have this overheating the phone? not even games and such cause such a temperature. it acutally sets off the batterys temp thresh hold and asks to disconnect the power source.

Skype is a pretty hardware intensive app. Try underclocking and undervolting while using it. I have also noticed that my phone heats up using it more so when I'm using video chat.
Pin it to Win it.

think i might order one of those custom anker batteries since people claim they dont produce as much heat while charging. sometimes i use it for extended periods and the usb charge seems to almost negate the power loss.

battery kills me too. not during use, but when it is constantly pinging the server (even with use on WiFI only setting)

okay i got it up an runnin, error on the roms side..fixed the rom now im TIKL away..it does seem to drain battery life..i have been using this rom for 4 days now with incredible battery life (22-30hrs). with TiKl up its down to 7-hrs...thas no good, but it has to stay on to get calls...so if you want to use it, then use it...if not then dont...no way to fix..if you kill the process/task then you will not recieve the calls

VTOK keeping phone awake & draining battery?

Can someone else who's running VTOK confirm that your phones awake time is almost identical to the uptime? I've noticed the program is running all the time, even though I'm not even signed in to it. I deleted it about half an hour ago & my phone is finally showing that it's not awake all the time.
Is it the program that's running or the service? You know it has to be on for you to receive video chat requests.

Don't remember. That's the thing though, I was signed out & didn't want it on unless I knew I was going to make a video call. It starts automatically & ran no matter what.

Charge vs. Thunderbolt

Don't know if anyone's interested, but here I go:
Bought a Thunderbolt back in April and have had it replaced 7 or 8 times for various reasons. Each replacement, I've also had intermittent issues sending email from my POP3 account.
I demanded a Rezound, but they only gave me a Charge. Here's the comparison:
Speed: Charge wins EASILY. I expect at least 20 on the charge and hope for at least 10 on the Thunderbolt.
Weight: Charge is MUCH lighter. I like that.
Display: Charge wins easily. AMOLED is fantastic.
Screen: Charge. I love the way the screen feels. Much smoother than the Thunderbolt at times.
EVERYTHING ELSE: Thunderbolt. It's "quicker" overall, more responsive, GPS locks in within seconds (Charge took about 5 minutes), phone pad is more user-friendly and didn't require as much reaching from the thumbs, Thunderbolt NEVER freezes (Charge did), no longer randomly reboots (Charge did), camera sends portrait pics right-side-up (Charge doesn't), and I'm sure I'm forgetting something.
I should point out that because of its positives, I really wanted the Charge to work for me. It was a VERY hot chick. But it was not a wise choice. So for functionality, I'm sticking with the Thunderbolt. Just gonna deal with it not sending mail intermittently.

Just put Tweakstock on with the V6 Supercharger and Voodoo Screen Tuning. You won't go back to the TB and its ****ty battery life. Plus, with Imnuts' new PBJ kernel we can finally overclock and undervolt for maximum performance and battery life. Loving this phone again :]
Tweakstock? V6? Voodoo? I assume all of that requires rooting, right? Sorry. I'm too chicken to root.

Rooting is the only way to go for the best possible experience.
I had a Thunderbolt, Revolution, and Charge so I have experienced all of them and will have to give it to the Charge as the best overall.
Thunderbolt was the only Android phone I had fail on me after 3 months of use. It also is considered a dud, with countless complaints from reboots, to radio issues, and so on.
It has a worse GPU/processor
Hardware buttons are TERRIBLE. They are mushy and flush, which doesn't sound like a big deal, but to me it's very annoying every time I use the phone
No hot-swappable SIM/SD
Less battery capacity 1400 vs 1600 and also by far the worst battery life of the three.
Hardware keys>capacitive keys
Thunderbolt does feel better in hand and I like the design.. I also am envious at the development/ROMs the Thunderbolt has, such as MIUI...
the only thing I'm jealous of the Thunderbolt for is the notification LED... I like everything else on the Charge (except the damn data drop which still happens occasionally for me ), and am content with the amount of dev work we have though admittedly little

Yes, if you root and download "FasterFix" your GPS will be much better. Although, it doesn't work for some people so you might need to edit a file in your /system. Either way your GPS will be much better. Rooting is insanely easy, you plug your phone into the computer, run a program, reboot, install a file and bam, you're rooted. Just check out some of the guides in Development. Also, don't feel chicken to root, we have the files needed to completely fix a bricked phone(unless you happen to brick it while messing with Voodoo Lagfix, which with our current ROM/kernel choices is almost impossible, and even then it can be fixed 99% of the time).

Install Imnuts' new PBJ kernel(its posted on Rootz) in CWM, then install Voltage Control and mess with your voltages/CPU clocks to your hearts content, although I warn you, never go over 1.4GHz or you run the risk of frying your CPU since anything over 1.4 heavily overvolts which is a very big no-no.
That's helpful...thanks for the advice. I've never rooted before, but that's quelled some of my concerns. I should mention that I'm getting some INSANE download speeds here in Kansas City...usually north of 23 and up to 49. It's great. I'm having issues with losing data connectivity (altogether) which requires a reboot. Other than that, I think my phone is getting used to me and adjusting accordingly.

I lose 3G data for days and I am on my 3rd phone. The last replacement lasted 2 hours before the data dropped for 10 hours.
It's weird, I think some Charges have data issues possibly due to quality control the either the 3G or 4G basebands or both, whereas other Charges don't have issues.
I can personally attest to having a reliable charge, although I rarely go to a 4G area.
I live in a solid 4G area but still the data droppage on mine is horrendous, problem is that its not reproducible in store because of their signal boosters so no go on a replacement (I don't like dealing with the reps on the phone either, most don't know what they're doing and I don't wanna call 50 times just to get a good one lol)
I'm saving up for a Nexus or I might wait for the next HTC superphone, either way I like my Charge a lot but the data issue on mine is a deal breaker otherwise I'd stick with it till my upgrade

Unfortunately I heard that it's not just a Charge issue, but a Samsung issue. Just from reading online articles it seems that the Nexus has the same issue. At lease it did with 4.0.2. I dunno about 4.0.3.
It is a Sammy issue. A lot of people came from the fascinate to the charge for just that issue.
We had 2 fascinates in the house bought at the same time. Mine dropped once in awhile the other was solid. I got the charge as a replacement and it has been very solid. My wife has a stratosphere and she loses data once in awhile but a quick airplane toggle restores it. It is a weird issue and must be in quality control, though the fascinates issue was resolved with a software patch eventually

if you have recently installed any new apps, they could be running/locking up and causing excess heat, and if you changed the kernel or just recently upgraded your rom without wiping data, that could definitely cause that too.
either way, as long as your not suffering any really bad performance, or battery life, there is nothing to worry about. this phone is perfectly happy up to 50C (and if you don't care about the longevity of your battery, up to 70C or so)
TL;DR: you've got nothing to worry about

The funny thing is, the battery shows do not subject to >40C temps.

The number your reading is the cpu temperature. a ton of heat dissipates by the time it reaches the battery (and the outside of the phone)
And I'm not 100% about the battery temp, but i am completely sure about the cpu temps. (i honestly don't care about my own battery, they cost like 10 bucks online and are easy to get... And I have a release day phone that hits 60C just about every day, and my first battery is still chugging along fine.
If you have a source for the battery operating conditions id love to get then for reference.

[Q] Music crackling...

Wondering if anyone else is experiencing the typical Android crackling while playing music on this phone? Using Poweramp and wondering if anyone found a fix? I read over on the international boards they fixed it with a kernel and tweaking the min cpu. The CPU doesn't respond to music when the screen is off.
It seems like something Samsung can easily fix.
do you mean the hissing? i hear that mostly when using Spotify.. only very little with Poweramp, but still noticeable compared to when i had the original Incredible. that phone's audio was quiet. i sure hope there's a fix.. i heard that the US versions' overall gain is slightly higher than the international version, hence why the US versions were tested to have a higher overall volume. so it does seem like it can be fixed via software tweak.

Hopefully.
I pre ordered my GS3. Received it on July 9th. I listen to Sirius all day long. The first time I set up my GS3 and turned on Sirius I had a popping and cracking noise (through my BT headphones). I lived with it for about 12 days. Also, when I connected it in my wife's car (BT) it did the same thing. So I called vzw and after going through about an hour of trying different tricks, they sent me a brand new phone. The new phone does NOT do it.
I also tried the headphones that came with my phone and didn't hear it. So for me it was strictly a BT issue. Funny thing though, my new GS3 doesn't get as good of a connection as the first one got. Using the same apps in the same location. So, depends on how bad it affects you. You might end up with a different issue. Oh, and this is my fourth android and I've never had an issue like that.

Same here. It's terrible when the phone is plugged into the car aux. Pops and glitches. Happens in several apps as well (not limited to one). I'm on Bean's R11 anyone know of a solution or source yet?
Its most likely because of the kernel (voltages, cpu freg). I had the same problem with imoseyon version 8 and 9 but not 5.
If your kernel can tweak voltages, increase the voltages have helped some peeps (1000 to 1150mV...or higher for lower frequencies).
The other option is to increase your lower CPU frequency until the crackle and pops go away (500 mhz or higher)
Third option is to use another kernel. I have not had this problem with ziggys kernel

Thanks for this info! I didn't think of it being the kernel as I hadn't seen any "sleeps of death."
I flashed to LK 0.5 and rode for 30 minutes listening to music the whole time. Not one pop or glitch. As the problem was decently intermittent, I'll try it out over the next couple of days. If I get any more pops or glitches, I'll be sure to post.

Sure man.
Never had any problems with imo.5. Should work out....
Just to follow up, running LK 0.5 fixed the issue. Also bumped the voltage higher on 0.9 and it also worked. Interestingly enough, I've been on cm10 lately with LK 1.0 and it hasn't had the same issue. Running at 925mv on 384mhz.

I had the same problem even before any ROMs/kernels.. finally called Verizon and got a replacement.. glad I did... music is normal now..
Guess we've been lucky - we play music from both of our stock Galaxy S IIIs in the car and I've recently been using headphones, but I haven't heard crackles or pops during playback.
- ooofest
I still have this problem regardless of kernel/voltage combo however it's only with PowerAmp and only with M4a files. My stock music player has zero audio popping/cracking on those same files which is so odd. I even took the same albums that glitch/pop on my GSIII and put them on my Droid Incredible and played them with PowerAmp. The result was no cracking/popping, which is exactly how audio on that phone has always performed-flawless.
For those still having or that have had this issue, could you post which music file extension had this issue? Example: mp3, AAC, Flac, m4a, etc.
Edit: It almost feels like I'm setting since I can use the stock player but I know PowerAmp (or other music players) offer a more complete listening experience. Maybe I'll try another go at tweaking voltages. Anyone know how they affect your phone btw?
