Gorilla Glass? - HTC Sensation

Does the Sensation XE have the Gorilla glass?

Yes it does.

I think the majority of all new phones comes with Gorilla glass now. Can't wait till gorilla glass 2. I have 2 small nicks on my htc sensation 4g though...don't know how i got them...but they are definitely there. I've had my phone for 1 year now and no other scratches.

Maybe you were just unlucky, link below says the Sensation has it so I'm very much inclined to think it does.

They claim that it IS Gorilla glass on the sensation, I thought it was?

It does have gorilla glass. My friend is using a Sensation XE without any screen protector and there are still no scratches at all.

It does have gorilla glass. I'm using my Sensation without a screen protector for 8 months now and have only a small, light scratch, that's only noticeable at a certain angle in the light. And I've dropped it a few times on its face.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using XDA

Specs state that it does but I personally think it's no better than other glass. I forgot my keys were in the same pocket as my phone, took it out and found scratches afterwards.

It definitely is. No screen protector for something like 7 months. The only scratched are microsized and only visible if I tilt the phone quickly in direct sunlight with the screen off.

Gorilla Glass is still glass, don't forget. It's much tougher than ordinary glass, but if you throw the phone around, don't expect it to not scratch or crack.

may be, but i did not test. i dont past surface protection, there was no scratch yet

Exactly. I'm not sure why people think it's bulletproof lexan...
As far as cracking goes there are certain variables to consider... ie: screen size, curvature, chassis design, etc...

Well, there would be quite a substantial increase in the price considering the extra processing it would take. Does nobody here feel the need to provide reasonable answers?

I left my phone without any screen protection and it got scratched due to having it in the same pocket with my keys. Do not think that the screen cannot be scratched easily.... ))

Screen is crap

On the desire s it is easy to get scratches on the screen and I have a keep one. I thought that the screen was gorrila glass??

i haven't noticed any problems with mine. I even dropped it on concrete which managed to chip the aluminium on the back but left the screen intact. The only time i can see scratches are when it's under direct light and those are still hard to see. Also, i do not use a screen protector.
It's clearly not a rubbish screen or this forum would be flooded with more posts saying the same

I hat screen protectors, but the screen seems to be adequate; I dont get any scratch and carry the phone in my pocket without any kind of protection (just try to no mix up with coins and keys).
When compared side to side, the screen is also somewhat dimmer and the Nexus S (S-LCD version, not amoled). Colors are also less vivid, but that may be software related.
Viewing angles might and black levels not be the best, but the brightness and colours are great. I'd hardly say the screen is crap. Also, pretty sure it is Gorilla glass but I'm not going to try and find out.
Compare it to x10 mini and you an se that diference...

i am pretty sure that the screen is gorilla glass
who told you that gorilla glass cant be scratched?it is scratch resistant not scratch proof
a small grain of sand can scratch the screen easily
that is why it is always better to get a screen protector as soon as you get the device
DS has for sure gorilla glass. but you can see some small hair0like scratches when the screen is off. i use protective membranes
I tried on x10 mini foil from Brando. They are 110% quality. But after an hour goes to bin :-D
I havent any scratch on screen. Desire s detto.
I noticed a scratch today, only had it several days.

Screen Scratch - EASILY SCRATCHED.

I know this probably shouldn't be in the General Section but I just want to help people out! Beware, The HTC Sensation does not have proper gorilla glass, gorilla glass does scratch but not that easily, today I handed over my phone to some friends and I saw them using the phone very carefully but when i got the phone back there were BIG scratches here and there on the screen! Whoever hasn't bought a screen guard PLEASE do so and remember NOT to buy the glare screen guard, but the Anti-glare one. The glare screen protector doesn't work that well under the sun and most of the time you see yourself rather than the UI on the screen even in full brightness. The Anti-glare protector works PERFECTLY.
And also guys, please help me out. The scratches are really minor but irritating. The aren't visible when holding the phone normally or looking at it from the front but when i tilt the screen I can see them. Would getting a screen guard help? Would it hide the scratches?
Sorry if this has been posted already..
I had a couple of scratches on my screen so I put a zagg screen protector on. I can't see any scratches on my screen anymore.

I always keep one pocket free for "the phone pocket"... I mean sure it's gorilla glass and all, just like my galaxy S was, but I don't want to test it out!
Sorry to hear that the OP was having issues. It seems very strange that a finger could cause scratches like that... Was there some kind of debris around? Like sand or something?

Oh wow, even the G1 used Gorilla Glass. That was long time ago and before other manufacturers started bragging about their Gorilla glass equipped gadgets. The same goes for back-illuminated camera sensor. Only Apple made a big deal out of it, while EVO 4G (saw it in iFixit teardown) and possibily also other HTC phones also used back-illuminated sensors.
again i had my phone since 6/16/2011 it stay in my cargo pants pocket with keys and everything else still my phone have know scratches all i get is finger prints wich is supposed to be finger print resistance
I may not call it a scratch. It's just irritating ordered the amzer protector.
evo 4g was supposedly gorilla glass. The one day i was rocking it without a case (the superbowl, i was a little buzzed) my buddy took me on a beer run got out of the car with phone on my lap and it skidded across the cement screen down. i flipped **** picked it up only to have a scratch on the top left plastic the screen was fine.
So you let you friends see ur phone and they handed it back with scratches? Id beat some ass thats not cool

Who isn't using a screen protector?

If not, any scratches? Even light scratches?
none so far
I'm not and o have yet to discover any marks still want to invest in a screen protector but its hard to find a decent one!

I just took mine off and now the screen looks SOOOOOOO sexy and feels so smooth.
I would hate to get scratches, but I'm going to take the risk. It's just so much better without a screen protector.
I have a few small scratches on my screen, but they are very light scratches that do not affect the look of the screen. Half the time I dont notice them unless I hold the screen so it shines in the light...
I have one cm square of scratches, stupidly put my keys in my pocket with the phone :'(
I had a screen protector for a while, but took it off because I botched the install and it had too many bubbles. I actually took it off to install another protector, but I liked it so much naked that I left it. Been that way for 3 weeks and I haven't had any scratches. Don't drop it, don't put anything next to it in your pocket, and in general be careful with it and it should be fine.
Running without and no scratches at all. Feels better without the condom.
No scratches yet.... waiting for the protector to come in the mail.... followed by a case
You should invest on one quickly because mine scratches pretty easily. And I don't even have nails. Lol.

I've used it without a screen protector for my first one and no scratches. I final put one on my 4th Sensation. I used the Skinomi and it feels nice and thin. Was worried about it not feeling as smooth, but it is nice and very responsive still .

i'm not using it , i had HD2 for 2 years and even my ruff use which made the battery cover looks crap but the screen was so clean of scratches so i don't feel i need it for the sensation , just got a good case to protect the back and the edges and THAT'S IT
Its got gorilla glass...so how could it even suffer from scratches in the first place?
Get one ASAP! i didn't have one on mine the first month, and it's scratched in the bottom part, and some other places around the screen, and i have been very careful with it, i always carry it in my left pocket, where i doesn't have anything else, and never lay it screen down etc.
My old hero has a lot tougher glass than this one.
Drag a diamond across the glass and report back?
Kidding aside, the screen protector in the accessories forum feels almost as good as bareback.
Sent from my LeeDrOiD Sensation
I ordered two when I first got it, but I am yet to put them on, I need a some form of sticky dust remover to remove the fine particles/lint from cleaning (almost like contact but not as much adhesive, like a removable/reusable sticker).
I never got any scratches on my old iPhone with the crappy $10 replacement glass and digitizer from ebay, so **touch wood** I think I will be fine.
im not havent since i got it. No scratches at all with normal everyday pocket use. i mean its a risk but everyone knows its better without a condom
same here, never used a screen protector on my phones. My old Sony P1 still has no scratches, used my HTC Desire for a year without a cover and it has no scratches (on the screen that is) and had my Sensation for while no, no marks on the screen what so ever (I did get the first scratches / parts where the paint is gone) on the side because I dropped it two times in a row :S.
What I said in another thread..
xSeany said:
It's a personal preference. I've had my phones bare. (MyTouch 3G, Nexus One, Nexus S, G2, Droid 2)
I've only had a case for my Nexus S, because it was really cheap at work and was the same concept as the Otterbox. I've tried Zagg sheilds on my Nexus One, Nexus S, G2, and Droid 2. And I can easily say they bug the crap out of me. I can feel a difference in quality of touch response, as well as comfort(too much friction).
However, some people live by these products. I can't stand them though, and I've tried to get used to them. They're great if you're careless about your phone. I always make sure my keys are in my left pocket, and phone is in my right pocket. Out of all the phones I've owned, only the Nexus One had a scratch on the screen, and it wasn't really noticeable. In fact, I would still use it, if there weren't dust/sand underneath the screen(left it in sand at the beach for about an hour one day....).

So no, I dislike screen protectors, and most cases for that matter. But I'm more likely to use a case than use a screen protector.

gorilla glass?

i don't know if I'm just not as careful as I think I am but the glass on my phone scratches really ****ing easily.
im always so careful with my devices. i've had my hox for a couple weeks and I only ever keep it in my pocket with nothing else in there or face up on a desk or table
I've got 2 little nicks in the middle and a big scratch across the top left corner that I can feel if I run my finger over it
its my fault for not having a screen protector, and I've been meaning to order one and just haven't gotten around to it, but I'm a little disappointed it scratched so easily

None of my Android devices with gorilla glass have ever scratched. I just sold my Atrix I bought at release (bought in Q1 2011) yesterday- flawless glass. Keep it away from diamond earrings and sand. Most metal in general to be safe.
i have a feeling there was a grain of sand in my pocket. its the only thing I can think of.
hopefully the screen protector hides it a little

We've been talking about this for eighteen pages on the international forum. There's also a thread on the SGS3 forum with owners having the same issue. It appears GG2 is less scratch resistant than GG1. I don't normally use a screen protector but am now after reading people's experiences.

Yes it will scratch. I scratched mine with my wedding ring in 2 places already. Although they are on the sides and not very noticeable it can happen. I know that the wet application screen protectors do a good job at hiding the scratches like Zagg or Skinomi. I had a Zagg on mine but took it off because I didn't like the feel of it but I couldn't see the scratches with it on. I put a Skinomi on my wife's gs2 and it also covered up the scratches. I think I'm going to try the XOskin this time around for my one x. I heard the were pretty good protectors.

We first saw the Gorilla Glass 2 back at CES 2012, though the glass manufacturer did not reveal then which handsets will be featuring the technology. The HTC One X is shaping up to take point as the company’s new flagship. The leaked official specifications confirm the rumors of an NVIDIA Tegra 3 chipset doing the heavy lifting inside the One X with a 1.5GHz quad-core processor. The second generation Super LCD of HD resolution (1280 x 720 pixels) at the front measures 4.7" and is protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass 2.The One X should have 1GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There's no microSD slot available, but HTC will try and make up for that by providing 25GB of Dropbox online storage for two years for free.

My HOX fell out of my pocket when I was changing clothes, so about 6 inches from the hardwood AT MOST. My best guess is that it landed screen down on some grit because there is one big scuff and I put my fingernail in easily and one long scratch.
I've seriously never scratched an android phone before this and I've dropped them in the past a bit.
I'm going to try some cerium oxide to possibly buff it out a bit because it's really noticeable and quite the eye soar.

NEVER buff your 6 inch hardwood with cerium oxide. Prone to chafing. Try astro glide.
I found an inch-long scratch on my screen a few days ago. No idea how it happened, as I am very careful with the phone. I hate screen protectors, but I ended up putting one on (from bestskinsever). It actually works quite well, and the screen protector made the scratch invisible, which is pretty cool.
I highly recommend bestskinsever. The body skin, and now the screen protector as well, work very well for me - couldn't be happier. Better than any case (although of course you sacrifice drop protection).

What happened to the gorilla glass in the HTC One S?

Hello guys, I just want to share with you something that, for me, its a big problem since this is supposed to be a powerful smartphone with some of the best technologies available....
I have with the phone 3 weeks so far, I have never had a single protector screen on any of my older smartphones (htc hd2, HTC inspire, HTC sensation, and the actual HTC One S) and never had a a single scratch on any of them, EXCEPT FOR THE HTC ONE S..!
yesterday I went out with my friends and after going back to home I checked my phone and didn't noticed any scratch on it (i always use my left pocket to my phone only)..
But today when I woke up I grab my phone and noticed a big scratch with many microscopy scratches around the big one, and that's WITH DOING NOTHING, I HAVENT DROP MY PHONE AND I DONT PUT IT WITH KEYS OR COINS
I'm from Mexico and here, there is not screen protectors to buy one to my HTC one S (i don't like to use them anyway)
What could be wrong with this phone that get easily scratched? As far as I know this phone has gorilla glass 2 so its supposed to be very resistant to scratches :S
Any way to remove those scratches??
Thanks guys hope someone Give a feedback or advices about this big HTC one S problem
Enviado desde mi HTC One S usando Tapatalk 2

I work for a retail store and HTC rep comes in every so often, from what he said is its not true gorilla glass but the built it inhouse to the same specifications ... As we see it is not
But they could say that the screen is "SCRATCH PROOF" and I would still use a screen protector.. spigen, best skins ever, and one incipio sends out with their cases are some of the best I've used.
I've have seen something about fixing eye glass lenses with a spray and wipe but do not know if the application would work on a display the same way... But a screen protector might hide some of the scratches
Keep it in pocket, alone, facing my leg...never scratch on any phone I've owned...

Yeah I also put my phone in an empty pocket with the screen facing my leg, I really don't know how can be possible to
Have that big scratch without dropping the phone or nothing like that I really don't know, I had a sensation and I dropped it dozens of times and not a single scratch and without screen protector..!!
Now on this phone magicAlly appea a big mama scratch with many sons around it -.-
I've heard that with some product to the glasses could be possible to remove some scratches

Unfortunately, like all glass, a single speck of sand can scratch your phone. You can take a sharp knife to your phone and scratch away but it won't do anything. However, if you have some sand, or some small pieces of hard particulate dirt, then when it rubs against your screen, it will scratch it.
At least, that's my understanding. I know the glass has been chemically treated to prevent this, but it's still glass at the end of the day.

No glass is truly scratch-proof. Gorilla glass is just more resistant than others.

Sometimes I have keys in the same pocket as the One S, still don't have any scratches. I see it's better then the Incredible S, which had Gorilla glas version 1.
This can't be gorilla glass

It's scratch, not beat-the-****-out-of-your-phone, resistant. Why do people think that this glass will not break? Nothing is indestructible, you have to remember that.

That was a 2 foot drop off my lap (I'm short). My old heavy MyTouch 4G took epic tumbles without battle scars for almost 2 years. I'm considering replacing it with the GS2 or GS3

That's what I'm arguing....
My HTC sensation had gorilla glass 1 and I dropped it several times from different distances and not a single scratch, and with this suddenly appears a very fat, ugly, and nasty scratch that in sunlight its like a sticker on my phone

There are people that have gotten in car accidents going 100+ mph and walked away with no permanent damage and there are people who have fallen or bumped their heads in very minor ways and ended up dead. Breaking or scratching your phone is the same way. You may drop it 10 times and think "this thing is indesctructable!" Then the 11th time you drop it, bam, instant paperweight. Or, you could be unlucky and get the paperweight on the first hit. These things are too expensive (and these days, too slippery) to not have some form of screen protection and case. I'm extremely careful with mine, but still manage to drop it from time to time. That's why it's in a case. I also have screen protection.

I'm pretty sure SOMETHING caused the scratch. You just aren't aware of what it was. Getting scratches happens just like I said above. You could treat the thing bad and have nothing happen and then get a scratch seemingly from out of no where.

Do you know how tempered glass works? A 1cm drop onto the right location on the glass can cause it to shatter. Well, maybe not 1cm, but the height isn't what does the glass in.

If you can prove that on the night when you got scratches that you did not have any tiny tiny particles of dirt in your pocket, that are common in the air especially if you're not in a clean room, then yes, I think your scratches came out of nowhere and you should start a religion.
However, what's more likely is you don't realize that your jeans might have particulate silica sand in the material, or that at one point some really really fine pieces of sand floating in the air landed on your hand as you put your hand in your pocket and got rubbed off.
Scratch resistant, not scratch-proof.
If even a single tiny speck of sand touched the screen, it would probably leave a micro-scratch. Unless they start depositing a layer of diamond on top of the glass, it will scratch over time.

Really the only way to get rid of the scratches is if you could somehow fill them with the same material that was removed. Not very easy, and I doubt you will find something like that at a reasonable price. Or by buffing the scratch out, but that is much more dangerous.
