Who isn't using a screen protector? - HTC Sensation

If not, any scratches? Even light scratches?

none so far

I'm not and o have yet to discover any marks still want to invest in a screen protector but its hard to find a decent one!

I just took mine off and now the screen looks SOOOOOOO sexy and feels so smooth.
I would hate to get scratches, but I'm going to take the risk. It's just so much better without a screen protector.

I have a few small scratches on my screen, but they are very light scratches that do not affect the look of the screen. Half the time I dont notice them unless I hold the screen so it shines in the light...

I have one cm square of scratches, stupidly put my keys in my pocket with the phone :'(

I had a screen protector for a while, but took it off because I botched the install and it had too many bubbles. I actually took it off to install another protector, but I liked it so much naked that I left it. Been that way for 3 weeks and I haven't had any scratches. Don't drop it, don't put anything next to it in your pocket, and in general be careful with it and it should be fine.

Running without and no scratches at all. Feels better without the condom.

No scratches yet.... waiting for the protector to come in the mail.... followed by a case

You should invest on one quickly because mine scratches pretty easily. And I don't even have nails. Lol.

I've used it without a screen protector for my first one and no scratches. I final put one on my 4th Sensation. I used the Skinomi and it feels nice and thin. Was worried about it not feeling as smooth, but it is nice and very responsive still .

i'm not using it , i had HD2 for 2 years and even my ruff use which made the battery cover looks crap but the screen was so clean of scratches so i don't feel i need it for the sensation , just got a good case to protect the back and the edges and THAT'S IT

Its got gorilla glass...so how could it even suffer from scratches in the first place?

Get one ASAP! i didn't have one on mine the first month, and it's scratched in the bottom part, and some other places around the screen, and i have been very careful with it, i always carry it in my left pocket, where i doesn't have anything else, and never lay it screen down etc.
My old hero has a lot tougher glass than this one.

Drag a diamond across the glass and report back?
Kidding aside, the screen protector in the accessories forum feels almost as good as bareback.

I ordered two when I first got it, but I am yet to put them on, I need a some form of sticky dust remover to remove the fine particles/lint from cleaning (almost like contact but not as much adhesive, like a removable/reusable sticker).
I never got any scratches on my old iPhone with the crappy $10 replacement glass and digitizer from ebay, so **touch wood** I think I will be fine.

im not havent since i got it. No scratches at all with normal everyday pocket use. i mean its a risk but everyone knows its better without a condom

same here, never used a screen protector on my phones. My old Sony P1 still has no scratches, used my HTC Desire for a year without a cover and it has no scratches (on the screen that is) and had my Sensation for while no, no marks on the screen what so ever (I did get the first scratches / parts where the paint is gone) on the side because I dropped it two times in a row :S.

What I said in another thread..

It's a personal preference. I've had my phones bare. (MyTouch 3G, Nexus One, Nexus S, G2, Droid 2)
I've only had a case for my Nexus S, because it was really cheap at work and was the same concept as the Otterbox. I've tried Zagg sheilds on my Nexus One, Nexus S, G2, and Droid 2. And I can easily say they bug the crap out of me. I can feel a difference in quality of touch response, as well as comfort(too much friction).
However, some people live by these products. I can't stand them though, and I've tried to get used to them. They're great if you're careless about your phone. I always make sure my keys are in my left pocket, and phone is in my right pocket. Out of all the phones I've owned, only the Nexus One had a scratch on the screen, and it wasn't really noticeable. In fact, I would still use it, if there weren't dust/sand underneath the screen(left it in sand at the beach for about an hour one day....).

So no, I dislike screen protectors, and most cases for that matter. But I'm more likely to use a case than use a screen protector.

No scratches what so ever. I do have a dedicated pocket, Lefty, for my phone. That is all that goes in there.

Screen toughness

Ok, so I decided to be brave, well kinda. I have to send my mt4g back for a warranty replacement so I decided to see how scratch resistant the screen is. I first took the edge of the metal micro usb charging wire and tried scratching the screen with that, didn't work. I then went and took my keys held one key and started scratching it against the screen (like you would sharpen a knife) nothing no scratches. Tried with harder pressure... still nothing.. then took the whole set of keys and swirled them around the screen to simulate them being in your pocket bumping around.. I put a pretty good amount of pressure.. and still nothing! It did scratch the chrome bezel a little around the screen it did not make a single mark on the screen. For not being gorilla glass the glass on the mt4g is pretty tough. I was impressed I couldn't scratch the screen... I was just trying to see how well it would hold up in a everyday situation like having it in your pocket with your keys. I just tried again hacking at the screen with a key, harder than any other time before and still not a damn mark!

From what I was reading it's not gorilla glass but it is a high tempered glass. I really tried to scratch this thing with a key though. I continued trying even after this post. Still haven't been able to make a mark on the screen with a key.. and I'm not being delicate by no means.

Glass is pretty tough. And metals such as keys won't scratch it as its much softer than glass.
I don't remember much from geology class but there's a few rocks that can actually scratch glass.

graffixnyc thanks for providing us with actual BRAVE data lol guess we can rest easy now. I always knew it was using high tempered glass and was scratch resistant just keep in mind it doesn't mean its scratch proof
Yeah, I wouldn't take it and slide it across the sidewalk on its face but its good to know that its pretty tough and that having your keys in your pocket or something like that wont scratch your screen. I honestly don't see a point in a screen protector for this phone after this. I mean anything that's tough enough to scratch the screen would probably rip through a screen protector.
I tried really hard to scratch it with the keys and nothing, even after this I kept trying and no dice. I'm pretty sure sand or something like that could probably scratch up the screen but its good to know in average situations your screen is safe.

this is sorta on topic...while the screen may not scratch very easy...the damn thing shatters with the smallest drop it would seem
was just at my local tmobile store and while i was there i was playing with a g2 while waiting for my paper work and next to it was a guy looking at a mytouch 4g...well we started talking about how good the phone was...turns out he had just bought one and was waiting for the girl to come from the back and give it to him
so myself and the other dude walk to the counter together talking about the phone...i grab my paper work and as i do the girl goes to hand the customer the phone and she drops it on the counter and the screen just shattered from top right edge inwards...was pretty gruesome...it was a fall of maybe a foot to a foot and a half
im pretty sure that phone had to have a weak spot or something in the glass...cause there is no reason that screen should shatter like that from a foot drop...needless to say the store manager saw what had happen and told the girl to get the customer a new phone from the cabinet
i can say now though im going to keep a tighter grip on my phone from now on
Lol freek91 that's another thread of its own. But believe it or not I saw first hand like you how weak it is as I saw my friend drop it from his lap and thing shattered badly but it worked. I read similar feedback online that's the reason I am very anal about getting firm grip always and wasted $50 on case...
Sent from my HTC Glacier
if you drop the device, there is great chance to crack or even shatter the screen, and moreover, if you slide it over the surface of concrete, I'm sure the silicate/siliconate will have a great chance to scratch your screen.
The point is: take a tight grip of your device!
broke my screen, replaced it for $30.
Touchscreen is easily broken due to stiff frame.
Using TPU case makes it almost unbreakable....drooped in case several times from approximately 5ft onto concrete with no damage.
Get TPU case...run about $5 and look good

I'm on my 4th one, due to the SF vs. SO issue, and my first one's screen got scratched in spite of being in the babying period. Not in a bad spot, but 2 clear small scratches that would be a problem if in the visible part of the screen.
So I didn't find the screen to be scratch resistant (maybe the SF and SO are different), so when I got one with a good screen, I put a protector on it. Which helps with fingerprints, too, so that's a win.
I wish it was gorilla glass. I had the Vibrant for 14 days and it really seemed to have a strong, scratch resistant screen (and, dare I say it, a vibrant screen).
Just another data point.

No Screen Protector.

I took out my Mytouch last night and started playing games and noticed how smooth the screen felt. It took me a while to notice that the screen protector had come off.
I needed to replace it anyway since the top right corner was loose and dirty. Just a little story I wanted to tell. Does anyone else use a screen protector?

I used to. I would always make sure I had a screen protector before i even got the phone so I could have it on on day one. But I recently took off my sp and noticed how great and clear and responsive the screen was without it. I've been rocking it naked for almost two weeks. Not a single scratch. Basically, with all of these glass and gorilla glass screens, you don't really need an sp unless you are putting the phone in a purse with keys and change or in a pocket with other items. I always have my phone in it's own pocket and keep nothing else in it. Haven't experienced a scratch. Don't think I'll ever use an sp again.

I thought MT4G owners said this phone gets dusts under the screen and spots, so wouldnt a SP be helpful here?
Naked since I tired of it after my first week! Months without one and not a single scratch...
Ive had a screen protector on mine since day of purchase, the guy at the tmobile store put it on before turning on the phone. I did have a sp-less HD2 that was mint and never had any scratches. the screen was very smooth and a tad bit more responsive. I think when I get my replacement mytouch, itll have the naked screen
I have a screen protector and a TPU case. I have it just in case. You never know what can happen. I feel like I can be a little less carefull with the phone with the cover on the screen. For example if im working on my car and using my phone to play music I can touch the screen with my dirty fingers and not worry about dirt and grime putting a scratch on it. Just wipe it off at the end of the day and its perfectly fine.
no screen protector is just so much more awesome.

LOL never heard anyone put it quite like this in regards to a phone, but somehow it works and makes perfect sense!
I carry my phone in the T-Mobile leather sleeve so the screen is always protected and therefore I don't bother with a screen protector. My buddy doesn't use a case and therefore does use a SP, and the difference is noticeable. His screen is much less responsive, and it's more difficult to drag your finger across it.

Story from my Nexus One. I had a Zagg shield basically forever, but the case I had did a number on the edges. I was getting close to getting a new phone, so I decided to just take the protector off and go naked. I figured, in my pocket, what could happen?
Within a day I had a nice scratch at the upper edge of the screen. Non in the "display" area, so I suppose that's good, but still not great for resale. I should be happy though that I haven't had any other issues.

Some days ago I put the phone in my pocket and since I was in a hurry I forgot that my keys were inside too. After playing handball for some time I take the phone out of my pockets and notice this huge and deep scare right in the middle of the screen. I almost cried, really. But when I took the screen protector off, guess what, it was like new!
So, screen protectors dont feel as good as naked but at the end of the day you will be safe.
Naked since new, no scratches. SP's are a waste of money on most new devices with gorilla glass or scratch resistant glass.

Gorilla Glass or other high tempered scratch resistant glass can still get scratch. All you need is the right grind of sand in your pocket or right angle of impact from key, ect. SP only costs like 10dollar and high end like DQC/Crystal based is like less than $20. In the long run it pays for itself just stay out of InvisibleSHIELD BS but when you do get scratch you will beat yourself crying why didn't you spend $10. As having scratch on the screen does impact the resell value of the device.

One X Glass Quality

As an early adopter, I know better than to complain about software issues at launch. That being said, I have my doubts about the quality of the glass in front of this beautiful screen.
I previously owned a Motorola Atrix 4G, which took moderate abuse in the year I owned it for. In that time span, without a screen protector, the screen sustained minimal scratches and were only visible in the right, particularly outdoors in sunlight.
This device, I have owned for about two weeks now, and it has two significant gouges; one at the top where the glass meets the body of the phone, and one at the bottom, not on the screen itself but its significant enough to feel a 'bump' if you run your fingernail over it. Big disappointment coming from the Atrix that never had a scratch you could feel. In daylight, depending on the viewing angle, is covered with dozens of small thin scratches. They don't impact viewing quality of the screen, but simply seeing how much damage the screen has sustained in the first two weeks makes me question how it will be in a year.
I plan on trying the Skinomi screen protectors that claim to 'heal' scratches, the big gouges I can live with but I was wondering if others have noticed this screen seems to be less scratch-resistant than other smartphones?
Mine already has a scratch that can be felt with a fingernail. My Captivate that never had a screen protector is in better shape. Maybe there's an issue here...
My atrix has been abused and screen still looks new with no screen protector. It is now my 20 month old daughters device to watch Disney videos on and the screen is still perfect. The body on the other hand is scratched to hell.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Are you setting your phones screen down or is this just happening under normal usage?
My Atrix held up fairly well to scratches. I dropped it on concrete a few days before I sold it. The drop resulted in some pretty good scratching.
Had my One X for 3 weeks and I don't think there's a single scratch. Plus it seems to resist fingerprints much better than the trix.
Really, who gives a crap? Go outside, touch a breast, fart in public. Live life. It's just a phone.
I wonder if there aren't issues with Gorilla Glass 2 since it is so new. This is the first production device that uses Gorilla Glass 2.

There's an article somewhere (gizmodo or engadget) of a Chinese video of the HTC employee stress testing the screen of the one x. He uses the screen as a hammer and pounds nails into a wood block. Not a scratch or crack. Go check it out.
Also its just a phone. Of the glass breaks its replaceable. The ttime you spend inside isn't.

minor scatch already - but new glass coming
After 2 years with the Captivate (no screen protector - I love the feel of the naked gorilla glass) I was hoping to keep up the good luck. no scratches on my Cappy!!!
Well, I am the proud owner of a gray HOX. I recently had an unfortunate accident (some kid tried to swipe/snatch the phone from my hand and it went flying and skidding on the glass for about 5 feet!!!) and I have a tiny scratch near the bottom toolbar - but I haven't been bothered at all in everyday use, just that first scratch disappoinment!
Ordered a new one for $37 and its on its way. Now I actually plan to wait to replace and use the ever so slightly marred one until I get a few scratches.
We replace an old Iphone glass last year and the replacement made the phone feel brand new again.
Needless to say, my son took off his screen protector on his phone after he found out the cost was insignificant to replace. He prefers the glass and I don't blame him!
The One X has a beautiful screen and glass, it's a shame to cover it with a protector that will get nicked up anyway.
Gorilla Glass is overrated.
Yesterday, I dropped mine completely naked from waist height, watching it flutter to ground in slow-motion like a John Woo flick, landing on the corner of the glass on the sidewalk, and it only has the slightest of scratches on the bezel, completely invisible unless really focused upon. At the time I stared at it, face down on the ground, thinking, "Well, there goes that." Completely expected it to be shattered. Turned it over and couldn't believe it.
So either I got a lucky bounce or it's decently durable.
Case arrived today. Because that's how the universe rolls.

XO, BSE, SGP or something else?

Which will be the best screen protector? Which is the best based off your past experiences?
I am in the UK and willing to order from the US but I'm not sure which is the best. I still need to sell my unused XO from my Galaxy Nexus
UK here too. I've tried Zagg, Skinomi and BSE in the past. BSE are undoubtedly the best of those 3
I'm having trouble deciding on a screen protector as well, but I've always gotten the InvisibleSHIELD. I mostly do so because I can buy the full body skin (or any of the kits they sell), then take it to the mall and they'll apply it all free of charge. If they screw up (they never do), then they'll give me a brand new one. If it gets all scratched up, gets a bubble, or ANYTHING, I just take it to the mall (without a receipt or box or anything) and they'll replace it all totally free. If I screw up applying other protectors, I don't want to have to ship it back and wait for a new one. While others do sometimes have kiosks (from what I've heard), I have yet to actually see one. I've never minded the whole orange peel thing personally, so it doesn't really affect my decision by much. I just love their warranty in combination with the kiosks. It makes it very easy.
Another thing I'm worried about is this: If I get the full body kit, can I still use a case, or will the friction of putting the case on be enough to screw it up? Has anyone had this issue? Should I just get a front and back kit instead? I plan on using case with the phone to protect from drops and what not, I usually just get a Speck Candy Shell or something, although I'm a huge fan of the LifeProof cases since they look good and offer great protection (either or not they'll make a Nexus 4 case is a different story, I suppose).
BSE all the way
...already on order.

How is the touch feeling of BSE ? Similar to glass or sticky like Zagg ?
They are all very similar. I usually go with Skinomi because of the price. I already pre-ordered it off Amazon.

The best screen protector... is you! Don't slide your phone across the table, don't drop it, and don't put it in your pocket with potentially "dangerous" things (pens, keys, etc.), and all should be ok
I'm not a big fan of screen protectors; I like to have full touch control with my screen, and would rather not worry about what was the cause of my screen not registering that input (was it the screen protector, or just the phone itself?).
Well I don't know what kind of screen protectors you've been using but the ones I've used don't have any effect on the sensitivity of the touchscreen. I am careful with my stuff anyway but the small hairline scratches really annoy/bother me for some reason.

Your question is the best for the N4. But nobody has any of these screen protectors made for the N4, and only a couple really lucky people have the phone. None of the opinions in your poll are actually based on experience with this device and this protector. Wait until people start getting them and then look at reviews.

I'm going with BSE because I've heard a lot of good things about them. Plus I like the wet apply idea. I've ALWAYS had problems with the sticky dry screen protectors. One little piece of fuzz or dust and you have annoying bubbles every where. And over time bits of fuzz/lint get up around the corners and it slowly starts to peel off.

I'm sorry, but it doesn't matter what you do. Before you know it you'll be in direct sunlight and you'll see all sorts of small little scratches. Then later, you'll always know they're there. I'm OCD about it. I can't stand having the tiny little scratches because I want my phone to stay new. I think the first time you put a phone in your pocket, it gets some sort of tiny little scratch from something.. then over time they build up and make the screen look aweful. Plus its funny you say pens and keys because those things wont scratch gorilla glass. I've tired a key on my old Atrix and nothing comes from it. It's actually particles of dust that have maybe glass or something else hard, or sand.
I want a dry applied one and really wanna know if a dry one can cover the entire screen of Nexus 4.......
XO Skins are the ones I have been using for a few years now. From what I have read xo and sgp are the only ones without orange peel. I don't know how the sgp do on curves though I posted a review of xo in my signature when I had the samsung google nexus

What is this "Orange peel" that people are referring to?

Is it true that phones with gorilla glass don't need screen protectors?

I bought my Asus Padfone 2 a week ago when it was just launched in Jakarta, Indonesia (which happen to be where I live). The product is so new that there isn't any accessories for Padfone 2 yet, not a cases, sleeves, not even a screen protector.
However, one of Asus representative has pointed out that the sleeve will be ready within mid-April. And as for the screen protector, he told me I don't need one since Padfone 2 is already covered with gorilla glass. He was so convinced that no matter what I'd do with my phone I wouldn't even close in hurting the screen. I need to know whether is this statement true, I want the best protection for phone.

Screen protector for phone is definitely needed as there is no total scratch proof screen in the market right now.
Its always better to have your screen protected with any sort of screenguard.. if it gets scratched u replace that screenguard and its shiny again until it got scratched pretty badly
Take my opinion. Don't use screen protectors. They are gonna hold back the screen from showing it's complete potential ( the colors, touch sensitivity, blah blah) unless the screen protector you use is exceptionally good.
I have been using ma phone without any screen protector for more than a year now. No scratch, Noffin. ( gorilla glass can handle em)
But if you have the screen scratching against stuff like keys ( while in pocket) or somethin , consider putting one.
Or You could get a flip cover to protect it.
It's my opinion. You're the judge

LIFE!
IT'S WHAT YOU MAKE OUT OF IT!
It's not scratch proof. Sand is harder than it so even a single grain in your pocket can scratch your screen (as all the little edge scratches on my One X's gorilla glass screen can attest to).
On the other hand, even my keys can't scratch it.
Coming up on three years my Samsung Galaxy S' gorilla glass 1 hasn't seen a single scratch.
You won't need it if you just get used to some simple ways of using it.
Don't stuff your pockets with stuff, a bank card can lock a grain of sand between it and the phone, a pocket itself won't do that.
Don't put your phone face down on most surfaces.
Stuff like that.
I tried a screen protector, it sucked, had to rip it off, violently and with a vengeance.
I've never been particularly careful with my phone, but I have some very basic habits that probably helps.
The sides of my phone is banged up btw, I've manhandled it quite a lot, and the camera glass is far from pristine, just goes to show the side you put it down etc matters a lot.

+1 to this. Sand is pretty much the only (common) material that can scratch gorilla glass. I haven't used a screen protector on any of my gorilla glass equipped devices in years, and not a single one has a scratch. Granted, I'm pretty careful with my gadgets, but I keep my razr maxx in the same pocket as my keys every day without so much as a hairline scratch. Here's a good thread for some additional info on gorilla glass:

So far nothing had scratched it, including two cats. But I do keep it in a wallet top type case when it's in my pocket.

It require screen guard just to prevent scratches
Gorilla glass is meant for rough use

It has been almost 2 years and haven't had a single scratch on my i777 'cuz I have the "screen protector" on.
I'm using kitchen shrink wrap (from Costco if anyone interest), wrap it around the phone, anytime I need to use, I just un-wrap it and when I'm done, I re-wrap it
I stuck the tape and put a cover, because it often drops the phone. I think, no GorillaGlass could not bear it.
I would not use a screen protector even if you paid me... (well, maybe, depending on HOW MUCH )
I tried it on my wife's phones and my two daughters' phones, and I was never able to place the protector without air bubbles underneath. And I cannot stand them. Even without bubbles, they lower the screen readability and clarity.
I think that protectors make sense only for people with particular ways of handling their phones. I always keep my phone in the same pocket, never put anything else there, and I never had a scratch. My wife, though, is able to scratch any phone in her handbag, even with a flip cover or a case on it, as she keeps it with keys, coins and everything else she is able to carry with her. No Gorilla Glass helped her phones, either

Lol, thats funny.
I would put a screen protector on it. I have had a couple phones with Gorilla Glass and have scratched them. While nice resistance to scratches it still happens if your not careful.
Every phone I have ever seen with Gorilla Glass and Gorilla Glass 2 have had scratches (when not using screen protector).
I get that it is scratch resistant, but I personally never use a phone without a screen protector.
As for bubbles, I use the matte ones and never get bubbles. I have one on my Nexus 4 right now and it still looks as vibrant and awesome as ever with no bubbles or anything.
I have a tablet with a GG screen that I got used from a friend and there are a number of session scratches or it - they don't bother me too much, especially now that I've put a screen protector on it, but if it's a device I buy new I would definitely have one on from the start (like I have with my phone and others).

I don't care who says what, from what I've experienced GG1 is much more scratch proof that GG2. Like you, my SGS 1's screen which is now my back up phone, is flawless. The thing is an utter tank and I believe I'd have to really work to put a scratch on it. Yet I've had 3 other phones since with GG2 and every single one of them has gotten scratched from simply being in my pocket.
IMO, GG2 sucks.
