So Ive rooted my Atrix4g, and I want to unlock my bootloader.
I understand the plus of doing this, and realize I cant turn back once this is done.
So I know this has been beat to death but...
Will I regret doing this?
Assuming I want a ICS Rom I have notice that they all have some slight bugs reported. Do I wait for the official Rom to be deployed or do you think all the bugs will be worked out by the time it is released.
Also when it is released will it be able to be flashed.
All these Questions are for a noob to the Atrix.
Any and all discussions will help.
Please don't try to convice me just some input of your experience.
ie* your favorite rom, things you wish was better... why you unlocked the bootloader. ect...
first of all- I DO NOT OWN AN ATRIX, BUT I HAVE EXPERIENCE ON MY EVO.
i say unlock for the best experience. some of the main worries can be easily fixed.
worried about warranty? you can always put it back to stock
worried about problems? rarely if you find the right guide and follow it will you have any trouble, and there are plenty of helpful people and tools to help fix it.
regarding the ICS rom- most roms at this stage for phones that have ICS ports are for the most part stable. just go through the Atrix development forum and find a few to try, and if you need to backup your data i recommend mybackup root.
hope this helps, I wanted to make sure you have some sort of reply.
You can do sone flashing i guess. use uncle google . or use thr search button for inquiries
actually, probably the best thing to do would be to post this in the Atrix Q&A forum, where youll get the best answers.

Hello and welcome to XDA...
First, I recommend reading the stickies posted in the forum and learning as much as you can about the inner-workings of the community... from there, things get easier.
Points of advice...
- Flashing Roms and Kernels can be as easy or as difficult as you want it to be... meaning, if you search the forum well and learn what you're doing, it becomes as simple as ever...
- Never flash anything without making a nandroid backup first... if you don't know what that means, use the search function for XDA and lookup "nandroid"
Lastly,
Most people are going to recommend you flash yourself Cyanogenmod 7. The latest stable build is RC1 and can be found here and other "usual places".
Once you flash CM7 (a "rom") then you can flash a Kernel if you want... I'd be willing to put my neck out and say that faux has the most reliable and most popular Kernel out right now in conjunction with CM7...
The best thing you can do for yourself is read... take the time to read as much as you can and answer your own questions slowly over time... there is no reason to go flashing away until you fully understand what it is that you are doing.
Hope that gets you started in the right direction... good luck and have fun!
hey guys!
So I'm new to this forum, as well as android. I know of my friend who has a Samsung csptiate, and he loves it. I however just got a Motorola xoom, and was wondering if rooting and putting a custom rom is worth it?
If so, do you guys have any suggestions for roms?
Thanks guys!
It really depends what you want to do with your Xoom and your feelings of your Xoom's performance. If you are happy with what you can do and the speed of your Xoom then I say no do not bother with rooting and custom ROM's.
If on the other hand you want to do more and want more speed doing it, yes by all means root and install a custom ROM. I highly recommend the Tiamat ROM's. It will give you more features and more control over your Xoom. They have a new ROM in the works so you may want to take your time researching your options.
The best advice I can give you is to do your research. Find the how-to guides, download all the files and read and re-read all the instructions. Make sure you fully understand what you are doing before you do it. Most problems come from people making small mistakes and not following the instructions step by step and word for word. Make sure to use the exact versions of files specified. Do not assume that a newer version of something is better or has the same features. There is a risk of bricking your Xoom whenever you flash something, but if you are carefull and follow instructions the risk is minimal and there are people in the forums who are willing and capable of helping.
Honestly, I want more speed. Do you also have to put a custom kernel?
If so, which kernel do you recommend?
You do not have to load a custom kernel to overclock, but honestly if you are gonig to go through the hassel of unlocking and rooting you might as well. Just know that as soon as you unlock your Xoom, you will have to wipe it clean. So backup your data and record what apps you have installed.
I personally have been very happy with the Tiamat kernels/ROMS. I started only installing the Tiamat kernel but quickly installed the ROM. If you install the latest ROM it includes the latest kernel as well. As I mentioned they are planning on releasing a new version soon. I usually wait a couple days after a new ROM is released to see if there are any major issues before I make the jump.
Take a look at this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1209341 . This should answer a lot of your questions and point you to the guides to get you as far as you decide to go.
Hey pros and newbs, like me lol, I need help rooting, flashing ... etc for my LG g2x. Yes I chose it over the Samsung Galaxy S2 because it looked and felt smoother when i handled both. But any way, can anyone create a step by step tutorial instead of clicking all these links and sending me to different pages and just keep it on one page? I really want to learn! I tried going about it but just worried about bricking my phone. If any one could help it would mean alot to me, the present and future hackers for android! 8)
Go spend some time reading in the development thread, There are already many thread with lots of information.
Start here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049154
Please READ MORE. People are not as willing to help someone who doesn't not seem like they have read the basics. Also slow down with all the "I'm a NEWB stuff". You are most likely to get flammed. Try to seem more mature and you'll get better results and answers.
Assuming you get G2x with Gingerbread you would...
1. NVFlash ClockworkMod (Do this right & and it will be hard to brick)
2. Flash Rooted Rom of your choice. (Gain root access)
To answer your most likely next few question:
WeaponX for 2.3.3
CM7, EagleBlood, MIUI for 2.3.7
(Personal preferences)
What OS u have on your computer? Also go see what version of android u have. 2.2.2 or 2.3.3. After y answer those questions ill walk you through it.

i like to do it step by step. these people show you how in a video
http://theunlockr.com/category/howto/android_how_tos/lg-g2x-how-tos/
Okay, Let me start by saying two things. Yes I'm new to this. And yes I looked in the forums for something similar.
Now, basically I just recently rooted my Samsung Galaxy S 4G. It is Model SGH-T959V, Firmware 2.2.1, Baseband T959VUVKB5, Build FROYO.VUVKB5. There are a few things I was wanting to ask the community.
Is it possible or a good idea to update it to JB, ICS, GB. And if so what are the benefits and procedures to do so?
Secondly, I've been looking into getting some custom roms. So far the only things I have found haven't been comprehensible. They either require a higher firmware version, have no explanation as to what the rom does, or have highly technical steps which are way beyond me. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what would be some good roms? What they do? And the benefits of using them?
If this has all been discussed somewhere else and have just missed it, please feel free to link to the thread and close this one.
ok i see you are new to the concept of flashing and rooting ....etc) you should try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1001759

First, you should start here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1470716 Second here http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V now you have all the source of instructions and guides to follow all you have to do is take some time to read and search. and now good luck to you and your phone..
Well, as for the Odin thing a lot of people have said it can brick your device, and that's not something wanna do.
As for the other guides, I started it, I got to the point where I'm updated to GB 2.3.6. The rest of the stuff didnt say what it was for, so I was unsure as whether or not to proceed. Are they required for flashing ROMs? Or just extra stuff?
The last one didn't seem to have anything really useful, but I didnt look at every last thing.
And what about useful ROMs? I've looked around online and a lot people recommend Cyanogenmod, although no one has said what it does. I looked at the steps and it seemed over complicated to install for someone new to this stuff.

In this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V it will guide you to rest of Custom rom's and kernel's that you must need to use in order to
start flashing custom rom and kernels. the rest is a guide which you can use and it will save you'r time from looking around.. The only rom which is very much stable to our phone are
GB and ICS while Cyanogenmod 10/10.1 are still in Alpha and beta stage..
Yeah, I saw that as I looked through it more. Just a lot of it is way over my head so it's gonna take me a while to get to it
That's right, you will never get lost by following that guide because everything you need to know are already in there.. just take some time to read and you
will be enlightened as you go on the process..
Well, my biggest problem is I keep looking for useful and cool ROMs, but haven't found any so far. So at the moment I can justify to myself to go through all those things just to not have anything to put on it. So far I like the GB look and feel much better than FROYO. I've found a few minor apps here and there, but so far nothing that has required flashing.
Or you can check some of the great ICS rom's we have, here i am going to provide some links of it for you.

of the great rom's courtesy of our great dev's..
Cool, I'll check out those GB ones. Thanx
Good luck and make sure to follow as per OP's instruction of flashing the respective rom's to avoid further problem, u won't get lost as every instructions are provided
for the ease of use and flashing.. and take some time to each and every rom you flash so that you can personally experience the goodness and you can make a choice which rom you think it's best for you..
Hi guys ! This is my 4th Galaxy and every time first thing I've done before ROOT -->CWM--->FULL Back up within CWM--> Unlock with CODE--> Install CM --> Enjoy
That was my formula always and with it I'd be able to save Stock/Rooted fresh OS in case something needs to be done and because I did it with CWM it's really easy to restore. But this time I think I'll hold my horses. Too much chatter about things that was not a problem before ...some OTA updates, lock bootloader, etc. Can anyone create post that cannot be replied to with Q/A that matters and update it as more info become available. I mean questions like should I OTA update (if one available), is good root method available or not, is CWM available etc. Just a few things that EVERYONE in here needs to know. Because as of right now everything is a mess. Bootloader hacked ..but it's not REALLY hacked ...no CWM on official page yet ...some sim unlock method available (non code) etc. I got this nice device and REALLY want to do above formula and start enjoying my i337 but because so many questions and no proper answers I can't. So I guess what I am saying Moderator create Office Q and A that CANNOT be replied to and just update with latest info that checked and working properly. Because too much noise right now. I hope I am not alone asking for some clarity.

Or you could take a little of your precious time to read what is already posted...but I understand how you have better things to do.
There is no real "clarity" of it. It is what it is for now. There are plenty of discussion and info about everything here.
Let's keep all of it out of this thread for now.
