If you want to start out modifying shipped ROMs or someone else's custom ROM, you can use my Android kitchen (see link in my signature). You can also use it to modify AOSP ROMs.
Thanks

So, there are so many people making really good roms now. even i want to try now
So how do you start cooking roms? or start making themes?
What software is needed? Do you need eclipse? Do you just need a file manager and an unzip utility?
Has anyone created a tutorial on cooking a rom?
I have some skill with android, and am pretty good and flashing and stuff, I wouldnt mind adding root a build that I like or taking something else out. Maybe add an app to the image, or add an option to my recovery image.
Where do I start?
plz help
Start by posting in the correct forum would be a good one.

Hello, I am new to XDA-Developers and so this isn't in the Development forum and I'm sorry for that. What I need to ask is about making a ROM. I want to make a ROM out of the AOSP Jelly Bean ROM, and port it to the Triumph:laugh:, but I don't know about compatibility issues. My question is: Do any of you guys know if the Triumph is compatible with dsixda's ROM Kitchen? It isn't on the supported devices list, but dsixda himself said that more devices might work with it, so if any of you have tried using the Kitchen I'd like your help. Thanks.
Good to see that you're motivated, but there's already a major roadblock to widespread ICS adoption on the Triumph because the camera won't work and the files needed to get it working aren't publicly available. You'll probably run into the same issues, making this project kinda dead in the water.
Good luck but the kitchen can only do so much. If you do use it, you will have to make manual edits to get things to work. But I don't think you can just port JB to our phones, especially with the kitchen. You will need to build from source, I am pretty sure. But don't let me stop you, just trying to give you a heads up. Try some things out and then ask some questions in the forums and somebody should be able to help you get on the right path.

I am going to try an experimental build on my friend's Triumph (I don't have one) and I'll post in this thread the results, and then I'll go from there.
I don't think that dsixda's kitchen works with the Motorola Triumph. I currently use it for the Galaxy S2 SGH-t989! But in the near future updates he may have add support for that device! And if you wanted to do Jelly Bean then you would have to get the android source code and build it from source! Building from source is much harder than building from port.
I really hope this helped and I wish you the best of luck with your development!
I want to start building a ROM with paranioandroid. I want to start with CM9 but the problem is that i dont have any idea on where to start. i want someone to teach/help me in building this ROM. I have time for it and i really want to do it. Someone who has skill porting, building, or has any idea on where to start on ROMs please help me. thanks a lot!
If you want to make a Paranoidandroid ROM you should get into source.building. You have to be running on linux, and further instructions can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1863547
That is for jellybaen, but it is almost the same
Hi guys!
I have been really interesting on creating a custom rom, and I don't know how to do it, I've read a lot of tutorials but I just can't do it.
I was hoping that you could give me a tutorial, or even open a thread to help who is trying to build a rom and doesn't know how to do it.
That would be extremelly good for ace plus, because we would get more developers to our phone, and who knows they could get really good at developing, that they could help devs to fix the bugs on their roms.
Best regards,
kaeOzZ

Building a custom rom is not so easy like you think...
Sometimes it takes 3 months to build a rom...
And 1000 guides explain how to do this
