[Q] Short-range-calls in a WiFi-Diret-Network - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hey there,
Is it possible to make short-range calls from a phone to another phone which is in my tethering range? This is the situation:
Some friends of mine and me have helmet-headsets for our motorcycles and we all have android smartphones (no - we are no gang ). Since are not far from each other it would be great to have the ability to create a simple network by tethering wifi and having the other party connect to my phone.
Not that we are connected, we'd have the ability to make a kind of VoIP call and stay in connection while driving.
How it could be possible:
Simplest workaround would be a VoIP Server on the "Server-Phone" and Clients on all phones (let's just talk about ONE other phone for now).
The difficulties:
The VoIP client have to reconnect automatically, if the connection was lost. Android already reconnects to a known WiFi Access Point, so this is not a problem. But the VoIP clients would have to support it.
Is there any known software solution or any motivated developer to take it into his magic hands?
What do you think about this idea? Have any better ideas?
Thank you!
UPDATE:
Ich found software and will try them in the next days. You will hear from me soon.

try "the serval mesh": https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.servalproject&hl=it

Mini PBX Server for Windows Mobile?

Maybe I didn't see another thread if it does exist, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who's thought of this.
Is there any piece of software that will basically turn my Windows Mobile phone into a pbx/sip server, or else allow one to use my cell phone as the external phone connection? I think it'd be saweet to come home, connect up my phone to my wireless network, and then have sip phones around my house that connect to my PBX server that uses my cell phone for incoming/outgoing calls while its sitting nicely tucked away charging. That way, I could have multiple phones around the house that I can use to answer incoming calls to my cell phone, and to make calls out through my cell phone.
Anyone have any ideas or seen anything? Any reasons why this wouldn't work? I'm a developer(java/vb), so if there arn't many reasons why it can't be done, maybe I'll take it on and see what I can come up with.
I've seen the GE Cell Fusion stuff which is something like what I'm thinking, but I'd rather have some sort of PBX/SIP server that I can customize and configure.
There are mobile PBX systems. Maybe this is synonymous with mini PBX systems.

Cisco CallManager??

Hey everyone just wondering if anyone knew of a way to use a WM6 device to a Cisco CallManager as an extension on the system?

YUP,
I'm curious about this too!
Anyone no how to do this?
This may not be what you're asking, but is the Cisco CallManager the "soft phone" app for their Internet phone? If so, I use the Plantronics PersonoCall (free) app. They have a personal and an enterprise version, but they both seem to work the same.
With a Plantronics multipoint BT headset like the 510 or 615 and the BUA100 BT dongle, answering or making a call on either is seamless, the headset switches back and forth between my PPC-6800 and the soft phone without doing anything on the headset.
I've tried this program with other headsets and dongles, but none work as well as this combination.
Well lemme go into more detail here:
I run a cisco voip network both at home & at work. I would like to use my mobile phone (kaiser aka tilt running Death4 ROM) over WiFi and have it become basically an "extension" on the system. Configuring things on both ends is not a problem since I'm the network admin. Just wasnt sure what software I needed on the windows mobile side, or if it was even possible!
I'm going to look into this software further, thanx for the reply either way!

I did find a software that I have already tested (as of right now) that works perfectly!

Very minimal setup, and pretty robust!

I don't know what version of Call Manager you are running (Call Manager Express, UC500 or Call Manager Appliance). You can do what you want from your kaiser installing in it a Softphone that uses SIP or Skinny (I don't know if exists). On the other hand, you have to have a VPN client in your kaiser installed because remember Cisco sees the extensions as a MAC Address, and you have "to be" inside your netkork. So, raise up a VPN tunnel against your work or home, take an IP Address from there and your SIP phone is gonna log into your call manager as if you was inside your office.
What's the problem I have? I'm know using Kaiser or Windows Mobile device and I don't know any softphone. I don't know what to use. I want to know if exists any free software but I also want to know which ones are paid.
Good Luck.
Guido.

App for controling second Phone calls via BT

Hi, some time ago I bumped on a program on WM that was able to control and forward my second phone (ericsson t610) calls via BT to my primary headset. Since I'm using 2 sim cards for my personal and business calls I really hate dealing with 2 phones. Can you direct me to a program that can connect to my stupid second phone and can take and make calls via BT, so my second phone sits in my pocket while I control it whit my HTC HD.
P.S. If there is any possible way of connect via INTERNET to my 2nd phone and use it by TCP/IP or voice over ip somehow it will be even better because I have 3G internet connection pack to my Operator and quite a lot of MB to waste. Of course we should think of a way to connect my second phone (or just sim) to a home internet connection.
Thanks in advance guys, you are the best!
Guys? Anybody?

[Q] Bluetooth tethering & USB Keyboard support

I know that the CM 6.1 supports the USB Keyboard/mouse, but what are the odds of getting the Bluetooth DUN tethering support ported over from the Archos 101 and 70 devices? Would love to hear some insight from the devs about the feasibility of having such a feature. I would love to leave my EVO tethered to the GTab over Bluetooth instead of Wifi. It would be a huge battery saver when I'm away from home/office wifi connection.
Also, USB Keyboard/mouse as a part of TnT? Possible? Worth it? Not worth it?
I second the above. BT stays on 24/7 on my phone, it would be much easier, and ideally we could eventually come up with some sort of on-demand script or app that keeps the BT DUN profile active, without battery drain on the cell.
With this in place, the gTab could connect and disconnect to the cell phone as needed, just like DUN should be. Best case scenario is to not even have to do anything on the phone, just enable BT on the gTab (or leave enabled as desired) and do some activity that accesses the internet. This would trigger a BT DUN connection to the phone, which disconnects after a certain period of inactivity (or manually, as desired).
If I knew a damn thing about how to program, this is what I would be trying to create.
That said, I'm a willing guinea pig.
Really? No one else is interested in this?
I know one of you guys out there has a rooted phone with wireless tether. I'm just starting down the root road. I have a Dinc, but it's been factory since I got it... and will be until the weekend, the gTab has whetted my whistle for root freedom.
What happens when you try to pair your gTab with your phone while it's got BT Tether activated? Any BT DUN profile goodness?

Bluetooth Tethering a High Wish List Item
For me, getting the tablet to tether via bluetooth to my Blackberry Tour would be a high priority wish list item. I am completely in the dark with this stuff but I can tether my PC to my Blackberry so I should in theory be able to tether and use the network connection. I realize that most folks here probably have an Android-base smartphone, but my company makes me carry around their smartphone (and has the decency to pay for unlimited data plan). If I could get the tablet to work from the BB's network connection I would be almost complete on my wish list. I have gotten to the point of paring the two devices (but can't seem to get them to connect). I am using tnt lite 2.02 and my 9630 device has v 4.7.1.40 with 3G, CDMA connections.
Indeed, the hope would be that the BT stack within the gTab can take advantage of BT Dial up networking or Personal area networking profiles. Then we would be good to go. If not now, hopefully we can find a way to get that to work.
Really? No one care about Bluetooth Tether on this device?
You don't have to ask me twice Oops, you did.
I am extremely interested in a Bluetooth tethering solution for the gtab. It's the only way I will be able to get a 3G connection from my phone that won't be policed at work (non-corporate wifi hotspots are monitored).
I have a Nexus One Adnroid phone (running Froyo 2.2.1). I use the Wifi hotspot feature when I want hop online with my G-Tab (my work monitors wifi, as well but I only turn it on as I need it.) I can't speak for BlackBerry phones but any "rooted" Android phone should be able to act as a 3G/4G hotspot.
Wifi tethering should be faster, but USB tethering and keyboard & mouse support are needed and should work in the first place. (keyboard and mouse support at least should).
Need a program like http://android.gval.biz/ or ibluever for iphone/itouch then the g tablet would be my laptop replacement for traveling .

Are you looking for DUN over BT? If so, have you tried this:

Jim
I believe PDAnet requires client windows/mac software, and they haven't written client Android software.
I haven't seen anyone port the Archos home-grown BT tether to any other brand. BT tether isn't part of Android (I'm betting the cellcos in OHA demanded it not be built).
My wife has Joikuspot on her phone, so she wifi tethers on the G-tab.
I have unlimited bluetooth data, so I bought an Archos.

You are right PDANet wont work as no client for Android, but from my experience listed above blackberry refusing connections.... or may be GTab just doesn't opening connection properly.
When I check GTable BT device property from Blackberry side it can do only:
Handsfree Audio Gateway
Headset Audio Gateway
Object Push
AV Remote Control Target
.... there is no DUN in the list, so I suspect it just not supported by BT stack on device.... but also I have in same my laptop listed as well which doesnt have DUN in its services

Message exchange through wifi and bluetooth

Hello,
I am currently working on the creation of an application for mobile devices with Android which should be capable of sending and receiving messages through local means like wifi and bluetooth. After making a research about it I found out that Android doesn't have a native wifi ad hoc functionality and that the only way to achieve that is through rooting your device and patching the wpa_suplicant and some other similiar methods which are not generic for every device.
Synopsis of what I am trying to achieve:
An application for Android that scans for devices nearby and tries to connect to them automatically. If the other device also got this application isntalled then it automatically accepts any connection request it receives and when the connection is established it sends back a message which ensures that it has this app installed so that both can start exchanging messages automatically and the users don't have to allow/deny any of the sending/receiving in real time.
My questions are:
1. Is there any way of sending messages through wifi between 2 android devices without the use of internet?
2. Since Ad Hoc is not supported, is there any alternative?
3. In case the answer to 2 is no , then is it possible to make one of the devices to be an access point so the other can connect to it and vice versa.
4. As for bluetooth, is it possible to skip or automate the allow/deny pop up of an incoming connection and the pairing procedure?
I ll be glad if you could give me an answer to those and/or any suggestions.
Thanks in advance,
Mike
