[HOWTO] Add Languages To Samsung Keyboard / Port Swype - Galaxy S Plus I9001 Android Development

this is my first tutorial, i hope i can explain everything good enough
today i will tell you, how you can add more languages to samsung keyboard.
and how you can port swype to every rom.
needed files:
in folder /system/app from the latest official firmware
AxT9IME.apk (& AxT9IME.odex*)
in folder /system/etc/permissions from the latest official firmware
touchwiz.xml
in folder /system/lib from the latest official firmware
libdhwr.so
libXt9core.so
only if you want to port swype, these files:
in folder /system/app from the latest official firmware
Swype.apk (& Swype.odex*)
in folder /system/lib from the latest official firmware
libSwypeCore.so
----------
now let's start:
1. replace/add all needed files in your rom
2. you can find the languages you want to add to samsung keyboard in the folder /system/t9db
you will need 3 different files for one language.
for example:
to add german language in your rom, you need these 3 files:
phonepad_de.kdb
qwerty_de.kdb
Samsung_400_DEusUN_xt9.ldb
add the language you want to use to /system/t9db in your rom
3. there is a need to add all languages (acronyms) you can find in your new /system/t9db
to others.xml ( /system/csc )
for example:
the code in others.xml for english (en), german (de), french (fr), italian (it)
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<CustomerData>
<SettingsData>
<AudibleTouchTones>off</AudibleTouchTones>
<AudibleSelection>off</AudibleSelection>
<HapticFeedback>0</HapticFeedback>
</SettingsData>
<SamsungKeypad>
<inputlist>[COLOR="DarkBlue"][B]en(UK);en(US);de;fr;it;[/B][/COLOR]</inputlist>
</SamsungKeypad>
</CustomerData>
open /system/CSCFiles.txt
remove all lines with /system/T9DB/*
your cscfiles.txt should look similar like this:
Code:
/system/lib/libSwypeCore.so
/system/csc/contents.db
/system/csc/others.xml
/system/csc/feature.xml
/system/csc/sales_code.dat
/system/csc/customer.xml
/system/SW_Configuration.xml
/system/app/Swype.apk
/system/CSCFiles.txt
---------
thats all.
don't forget to set permissions.. clear dalvik and cache, reboot and write in your favorite language

nice work will try .

i saw, that there are no csc files in aosp, cm9 and cm7...
so i have to add some more instructions to post#1
edit: done. correct me, if i have something forgotten.
if it is not working to port, i will try to fix it. if we can't port it, i will change the how-to to the simple "add languages"
maybe i will add a how to for adding languages to swype, but everybody can download the latest beta of swype on the website with much more included languages.

I really tried to port arabic languages from 2.5 to European Rom such us KQB. Took those files you mentioned + the whole csc folder + t9db + patched framework with araboc patch, but I failed

ok i need all files , i have mentioned in post#1 - with the correct folder structure
edit: when i have more time, i will try this with cm9

well, i tried to port samsung keyboard to cm7.
there are much more changes needed as i thought.
so, i decided to change this tutorial.
maybe i will make a new thread only for "how to port samsung keyboard".

I've tried to port Samsung keyboard from 2.3 to CM9, it worked, but without xt9. Only QWERTY. On 3x4 layout I was able to type only numbers and symbols. When I've entered users' dictionary, it gave me FC. Logcat said language error. Don't have txt file at the moment.

Hate the keyboards which need full internet access, be aware that they may steal your passwords.

So to port swype is to just take those two files mentioned above and put it in any rom right? and will it work on cm9/cm10?

Can't find the files
I am trying to install arabic language support on galaxy note SweetROM v5 LSF but I can't find CSCfiles.txt at all
Is it OK to do the tutorial without having to edit CSCfiles.txt ??
Though I have found /System/csc/contents.db which contains similar links to system files with file size value, Should I try & edit that ??
Also others.xml doesn't have those lines mentioned in the tutorial, but there's language.xml file which have <languageSet> <Display> and <Input> <SupportList> tags .. Is that the file meant for editing?

Rebuild font pack in G1?

Can anyone know how to rebuiid fonts in G1 so that we can read Unicode perfectly. In fact, I'm using Vietnamese and my language has some letters like à, á, â, ừ, ă, đ,... Now that when I browse web which use Vietnamese, I just only can see the rectangle characters instead of those above.
I found out that in the system directory there has font. And I don't know how to replace those fonts with the Unicode one.
Any ideas for this problem?
You can use my modified update :
http://www.4shared.com/file/78879606/a6450d7b/update.html
I modified it to support multi-language
Can this pack fully support Unicode? Do you base on JF1.3 firmware?

Yes, It fully support Unicode and you can upgrade it to see Vietnamese websites. I have upgraded on my G1 and it's okay.
i've done it for hebrew - you can do it too
it's quite simple, all you have to do is replace the fonts in the fonts directory (only droid sans and droid sans bold) with fonts that you know have your language, after you replace these fonts (and rename them of course) you have to re-sign the update.zip file and update with it as you would with jfv1.3
so to recap:
open the jfv zip
navigate to fonts directory
delete droid sans and droid sans bold
copy your own (and rename them accordingly)
re-pack the file
sign it with apk sign and the recovery image's key
update it
really simple

Elad,
Thanks so much for your post. I'm a bit at a loss, though---
Where did you get the fonts for hebrew? From the SDK? And if you get them, and have root, why can't you just replace the ones already on the phone?
Also, is there any guides that you know of that would help me compile and sign my own modified rc30?
Thanks
Shalom, here and there...

Ah I found this sticky on repacking boot images... so that's good. But I would really like to replace my fonts directory... although i have a feeling it needs to be compiled.
Also, do you still have your modified hebrew rc30? thanks
I repacked update.zip with my own fonts but when it goes to verify the package, I get an error,
EDIT: Never mind I had signed the update incorrectly. Thanks for the initial instructions though.

I thought I answered you on Android Community forums. The instructions and Hebrew RC30 update can be found on iandroid.co.il forums.
I looked through them, and was unsuccessful. The posted rc30 mod there is no longer available, for one thing. Also I really wanted to know if uploading JF's rc30 would reverse their changes.

It will let you read/view websites with foreign characters. If you don't need then just use the original jk v1.41.
Well I have been having issues with hebrew fonts... is it necessary to use a unicode rc30 mod in order to get the fonts to work correctly? perhaps that explains why my formatting is all weird with the new fonts... either way the above mentioned update does not work...

I doubt it. I've read here that even if you install a font that supports arabic, letters are shown as not connected in a word. From what I understand, cupcake update 1.5 should support arabic, however this was not mentioned in the roadmap but was mentioned in articles discussing the leaked cupcake images.

Android Localization?

Hello people,
I just saw on YouTube that some guy had localized their Android in Ukrainian. Is it possible to do this in other languages and what would I need for this?
Thanks a lot!

You could:
Download system sources (original AOSP or maybe sources of some ROM, if they are available), modify them and build. Very long way - I don't recommend it to you.
Talk to some ROM cooker - you will send him localized strings and he will integrate them into his ROM.
You could also use apktool to decode framework-res.apk file, add new locale, build it and install, but it isn't that good: first - it might add some issues, second - you will have to do it after each ROM update.
Second option is the best, I think.
try this app, for me it works with the latest king MT3G-Slide2G1 ROM

You must create e.g res/values-fr (for French language) directory and place strings.xml file in it - similar to strings.xml in the res/values dir.
You should read about Android apps development.
After decoding the apk I add this to the "res" folder, maybe you can
check if it`s right?
Original framework.apk also attached!
Then, after decoding,I have to build new apk and sign it,right?
Hi
did anyone succed with this? In my case all the languages are existing in framework-res.apk but unfortunately only a few of them are available in the language settings menu. Does anyone have an idea on how the menu is set up?
Android localization tool
You can localize Android apps in up to 200 languages using this localization tool: poeditor.com. Translators will have a great time with it, as it offers various features such as translation memory and automatic translation via Google or Bing. :good:

URDU Reading/Writing Patch for HTC Sensation (Paki users)

Long time I searched to find a Solution to Writing and Reading Urdu Messages for HTC Sensation.. HTC mobiles dont include Urdu although Samsung does..
I almost made it possible with Thanks from baadnewz Arabic patch. Thus this Patch includes Arabic Fonts too.
I know most of you will say we can Write URDU but when u r actually writing it, its infact Arabic form.. Many letters dont work correctly..
(Tested on Sense 3.5; Not yet on 3.0.. If Someone with 3.0 can test and let me know if it works for him)
Here is a Simple Guide on how to do it:
A) Download URDU_Patch_HTC_Pyramid.zip and flash via Recovery and Reboot. (First Boot may take Long)
B) Download MultiLing from Market
C) Then Download Urdu Plugin Pakistani
D) Open MultiLing . Follow Steps in Main screen
1. Enable Multiling > Check Mark Multiling
4. Enable Languages > Leave Tick on Only English and Urdu. remove ticks from All others
When writing message, Long press Editing Area to Select Input method. Choose MultiLing. Swipe Spacebar in Keyboard to change Language..
Now you can Type Urdu in Correct fonts...
Will Hopefully Port for Other HTC Devices...
Hit THANKS if it Helped...
Screen Shots BEFORE and AFTER the Patch
(Mods Please Move to correct Section. Dont know where it should Belong...)
i will check this on my bro's phone can i test it safely on DHD too?

I got what u mean now.. Maybe RCMIX has include URDU Fonts by default otherwise you won't see exactly how URDU is written.. it will be in Arabic Form..
Below is a ScreenShot of InsertCoin WITH RTL Arabic Patch Installed and Asian Swype Keyboard.. I think ASAIN Swype keyboard is not meant for qHD Screen of Sensation ... We want bigger one.. In screenshot u can see "Kaf" is typed as "Gaf" and fonts are also not very good in joining... its more Arabic Like
"Yar Pakistan main tamatar kay kya rate hain"
Now See Below after you install my URDU Patch in OP, the Fonts make Sense and is more URDU like.. and the "Kaf" is correctly written..
Now Check Below, the MultiLing Keyboard which I like for its size and comfortability... It supports Urdu Dictionary too...
Hope that clears some part of it...

It means with your patch it makes no difference between the accuracy of Swype with rcmix, and using multiling with insertcoin, but in my opinion the conclusion is for great urdu writing experience we need insertcoin+your patch+arabic swype...i hope you'll agree wiyh me, in your rom with multiling, the wordd "hay" and "bari yay" are seperated and same happening with swype in rcmix, but you can see the difference on your screenshot where youare using your patch + swype, it'll look more accurate...hope i have clearify.you properly
I ported those fonts and library files from Samsung mobile... luckily worked here.. Didn't know RCMix has it already... But most Roms here don't have Urdu fonts even after applying RTL patch...

Dost, can u share the files u took from Samsung? i tried few fonts still some characters dont seem to join..
I took fonts from here..

And merged with RTL Arabic patch from here

And Simply copied all fonts from Samsung patch and overwrite the one in Arabic patch...
Main font file was DroidSansArabic.ttf...
I suggest you overwrite this font file only if you already have RTL and Arabic patch installed in your ROM...
If that doesn't help then download my patch and delete the phone Model ID detection line from updater script and flash in your mobile with same GB version...

That's some nice info... But problem is not getting Arabic patch... It's actually getting Urdu fonts to work on it ..
Arabic is not Urdu although it matches 80% characters with Urdu... The remaining 20% are spelled wrong as it's missing Urdu fonts...
My patch just fixes those fonts making it compatible for both Urdu and Arabic at the same time...

[CWM][MOD] Missing Indian languages fonts for KitKat / JellyBean / ICS

New File uploaded for KitKat
Instructions
-Download the zip of your desired font
-Boot into recovery
-Make a nandroid backup (Optional)
-Flash the zip
-Reboot
As Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 owner, you may have noticed the curious case of missing fonts for Indian languages in the OS. The truth is that this is like gingerbread and I don't see it being addressed soon. Luckily, Google has started to use Harfbuzz for rendering of complex scripts.
Here is a flashable zip that installs the fonts in the /system/fonts and updates fallback_fonts.xml in /system/etc. Its better than overwriting DroidSansFallback.ttf as it does not break any other glyphs.
This will enable you to read the languages even though rendering is broke for Yuktakshars, Halants etc.
If you want to see Android supporting Indian languages as soon as possible, I request all to star and comment on this issue in Android issue tracker - http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4153
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=16315
I have only tested this on my own Google Nexus S i9023 and Nexus 5 running on KitKat[Android 4.4].
[/SIZE]Google has included full rendering support(and fonts) for -
Tamil
Malayalam
Kannada
Bengali
Devnagari / Hindi
Telugu
This zip file has additional fonts for
Punjabi (being my native language)
Nepali
Assamese
Marathi
Gujarati
Oriya
Sindhi
Kashmiri
If you want a language in the pack, provide me font file and I will update the zip. Also if you need to type in your language,I'e found this keyboard to be the best https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kl.ime.oh
BTW Thanks to The Fedora Project for providing Open Source Lohit fonts. Three cheers for them.

Tried on my Motorola Milestone running on 2.3.7 CM7.1
No luck.
This is what i did:
Successfully flashed zip files from Open recovery,
All fonts got installed in /system/fonts directory.
Manually copied extracted fallback_fonts.xml files to /system/etc folder.
let me know if i need to do anything else.
Thanks for your efforts.
Not working on CM7
Flashed it with CWM.
Manually checked if installation went fine.
All fonts are available with same permission and config file is also proper.
But still rendering is not proper.
Let me know if any further details required.
Thx a lot for your efforts!!!
It didn't work on cm7 because there is no fallback.xml file in my system/etc.so after flashing zip the fallback.xml copy in system/etc but it didn't work.

Thanks for pointing this out guys. I suppose old method of flashing DroidSansFallback.ttf would work.
@siffar:
Please guide how to revert the flashed zip file.
I tried replacing Droidsansfallback.ttf with ROJanakannada.ttf, but still it displays your font only (lohith-kannada.ttf).I dont like lohith-kannada.ttf, all alphabets are separate.
suggestion: use ROJanakannada.ttf for kannada. It looks nice and does'nt splits.

[Q] Adding locale pack to stock rom from other stock rom

Hi.
I'd like to add language packs from a stock samsung rom to another samsung rom.
For example take all the languages from EU SGSII LTE and add them to SGSII LTE Skyrocket?
Is there some script or program or a non-time-consuming solution if all the apps (except for carrier bloat) ar the same?
bump?

Add the apk to the app directory in the rom. Just extract the two roms with 7zip and copy it from the rom it's in into the rom you want it in. Zip it up and flash it. Look for system/app.
Edit, if you really meant stock and not from zip's, You're on your own

Deodex stock ROM.
Decompile the framework resources (system/framework/*.apk) and all the stock apps (/system/app/*.apk) from source and target builds.
Copy over all the language files (under eack APK at /res/values-*) to the target build.
Recompile all the framework resources and apps.
You can do it all app-by-app, if you want.
Lots of work.
ROM will grow significantly.
Can't be done without de+recompiling - language resources are XML.

Yes that's what I thought. Do you know if I have to add language entries to the language chooser menu or will they pop up automatically?
Don't know the answer to that one... Sorry. I'd be interested to know that too.

I found some info on this problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1924043
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1564694&highlight=tool
Lol sometimes it's easier to search by making a new thread and look what similar threads pop up
EDIT:
After some searching on the topic of adding languages to roms, batch decompiling of apk's etc i've found lots of useful info. I'll report back when i have anything to show...
