[Q] Adding T-Mobile US Wi-Fi calling - HTC One S

There are several threads for other phones out there to add Wi-Fi calling to non-stock ROMs. i.e. this one here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1664106
Wondering if this could be done for our phone, too.
-J

I am currently trying this out but i get an error. It says "ER05 Invalid Sim Card" but I am trying to fix the issue with t-mobile. The HTC One S is eligible for wifi calling though. Well I just went through talking to customer service to try get it fixed but they weren't able to figure out the reason. Because I just joined T-mobile today they told me to wait 24 hours to let it settle out. If problems still persist for me they told me to contact them again. They did mention something about an outage and was trying to get it fixed. If it does work out for me I will update you.

So I went to the T-Mobile store today after browsing the web and finding my answers. But I have successfully gotten it to work on my HTC One S. The problem with me was that I was not using the right sim card model in my phone. The model for my micro sim is TM9190. Also if you have the model TM9177 regular sized sim card I believe you can cut it down to make it work with the wifi calling. You find the model number in front of the sim card though. Although they advertise free calling... it is essentially calling through the internet and using the minutes in your plan. Good luck in getting yours working.

If it's new activation it could take 24 hours or so to register on the network.

I am on the Monthly 4G $30 plan so it does not offer me unlimited calling for free. If you are on contract with them then you might be able to take advantage of this. And also if you aren't able to take advantage of this you might want to use the app, Groove IP. Use it with a Google Voice account to get yourself free calling

So exactly what would we have to do. This thread talks about updating the radio before flashing this. Is that something we would have to do since this works in our stock? I"m running CM9.

Any new info on switching back and forth between LTE phones and Standard 3G phones?

Given the TBolt has the sim card, it seems it would be a little crazy to switch back and forth (if not impossible). This issue was touched a while ago, but is there an easier way yet? I guess anytime you wanted to switch back to the tBolt you needed to get a new SIM card. Is this still the case? Or can you use the website to switch back and forth between phones.
Reason I am asking is that I would like to use the iPhone during my work day since all of our machines are Apple based... and tBolt any other time. It just doesn't seem possible unless something changed?
I was also wondering how this would work. I have several phones and, until recently when I got my Tbolt, would switch between them quite often. Now with my first 4G phone, I wasn't sure that would work. From your post, it sounds like I could go online and switch from my Bolt to one of my 3g devices as I always have, but going back to the 4g Bolt might be a problem? I don't have 4g in my area, but I really am liking my bolt and don't feel the itch to switch devices yet, but I would like to be able to have the option.
Why not just call VZW and ask ?
That would be the easy way to answer your question.

They give different answers each time you call! Depends who you talk to.
if it helps, sim cards are sim cards and the one in the tb (though it works in a slightly different way than what would be normal for a sim) is the same as any other sim card. However, if you switch to activating a 3g phone without a sim card, they will deactivate your tb sim card for sure. They may even if you don't, just because they're verizon and are slightly clueless on how sim cards work still.

Can you ever switch phones online without calling Verizon. I have never been able to do it other than when setting up maybe a new phone but never switching back to an old one. Good luck though it would be nice to be able to freely switch. I have a DInc and OG Droid just sitting here

Switching from 4g to 3g phones you have to call in each time
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
I have tried switching from 3g phone to 4g phone and it is a pain. You need to call or go into the store and get a new sim card each time. The minute you place a 3g device on your 4g account the sim card is deactivated.
I switch back and forth now because i talked the store manager into giving me a few sim cards. You can also call every other day and have the customer service send you a new one. They are free but some stores will try to charge you.
Once you have the sim card all you need to do is turn off the 3g phone, place the new sim card in and it should activate itself.
Wow thats pretty sad that its this difficult.
I had tried this once and it brought up a question that I did not have the guts to answer myself. If you went back to 3g for a short while then afterwards reactivated on 4g would you loose the grandfathered unlimited data?

Just talked to a VZW rep on the phone, who I'm assuming went to talk to a supervisor or a tech, and she said as long as I keep the sim card in a place where the gold contacts don't get harmed (like in the phone), then I can keep the same sim card between activations, I just have to either call in to switch back to the TB or activate it online.. She talked to someone about this after I asked if I could have a few sent to me, so I'm assuming whomever told her this at least had some knowledge on the situation, but I guess we'll find out when it's time to switch back

the verizon rep that told you you can keep the sim card between activations is wrong. The sim card for verizon doesnt store any data its just basically a key to there 4g service. They can only be used for one activation and once they are deactivated they are dead. The only way to switch back and forth would be to have a surplus of sim cards. You would still have to call in and have them activate the new sim card before using it.
Ii have done this a few times on my thunderbolt so I know from experience.
Not sure on that having multiple SIM cards is right. I have switched between my DX and Tbolt numerous times and never gotten a new sim card. I do have to call every time when reactivating the bolt though.

I can't see how this would work since LTE and gsm cards aren't compatible. If you could do that, you could drop it in most of the decent BlackBerrys and run... But ya can't. Anyone telling you that you can isn't at all familiar with the specs.
What a pain in the butt.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
just my experience...
Using the My Account web site, I can...
Change between multiple 3G phones, no problems.
Change from 4G/LTE phone to 3G phone, no problems other than... the Web site warns the LTE SIM will be disabled after 90 days of non-use, implying that you could re-use it for up to 90 days, BUT the SIM gets deactivated immediately.
If I try to change from 3G phone to 4G/LTE phone, no problems IF I have a NEW SIM card. If I try to re-use my SIM it fails and I need to call in. When I call in, its hit or miss if they can enter that same SIM back into the System (customer service can't, but tech support has done it) or make me get a new SIM.
I haven't tried switching in about 3 weeks. So I don't know if anything has changed since.
Also, I find it best to complete the equipment change before 11pm eastern, otherwise the device change could get hung up in VZW's switch/system and not complete/clear until the morning.

At this time, it is still necessry to relace the SIM card if changing from a 4G device to a 3G device. So, if you were to change devices each day, you would need a new SIM card each time. Please check out our forums for updates at our website. Go to the website for Verizon Wireless, click Contact Us, then Customer Forums. You can also sign up for email updates from this site.
Thank you and have a good day!

[Q][update] G2x p999 new sim causes wifi-calling dysfunction

Is anyone else having issues with their Wifi-Calling on T-mobile?
I find that the wifi-calling app gets stuck at the stage there the app reads: "Enabling..."
* This is on either stock unrooted GB ROM or Xboarder's tweaked GB.
* Happening on two different routers in two different homes, different ISPs. Both
were working previously.
* I noticed this recently upon returned home from a long trip. During the trip, I had good cell coverage and didn't need the wifi-calling function anyway.
* T-mobile CSR reports an outage:
_Irina M: Ok, we are experiencing an issue with the G2X not able to establish a WIFI connection.
_Irina M: I will post the outage for you.
_Irina M: EFFECTIVE DATE: 11/7/11 OUTAGE TYPE: UMA...................................
MARKET AFFECTED: All
...................................
CUSTOMER IMPACT: G2X Cannot Activate Wifi Calling
T-Mobile subscribers may be reporting issues with the G2X encountering errors when attempting to activate Wifi calling. The device may show "enabling" but never connects.
Please Note: This issue is pending a software update but until this is released customers can upgrade to an UICC SIM card to resolve this issue.
MARKET/SERVICE IMPACTS TO: Global / Wifi Calling
CAUSE: n/a
* Despite this answer from t-mobile, I think it might be related to my recent change of a SIM card. I was having another unrelated issue and CS suggested I get a new SIM. The new SIM did not solve my issue. But now I have a new one. I did get a new SIM today, but this did not solve my problem. For the life of me, I cannot find my old SIM to reactivate.
Any one having the same issue? Can anyone test their phones to see what is what? Thanks.
11/18/11... I tested using a sim card from an Sgs4g with working 4g and wifi-calling. With this SIM in my g2x, wifi-calling was working again. It appears to me that my newer SIM cards x 2 break wifi calling.
If only I had my old card. Ironic that there was nothing wrong with that card in the first place.
I don't use wifi calling but my wifi does cut out and stop working randomly. Right now I'm only showing one bar even though I'm Lees than 10 ft from my router. This phone seems to have random wifi issues and I remember reading something online conforming it, but I don't remember where.
Sent from my G2X
I have that problem (stuck at "enabling") a couple of times a month. I generally take that as an indication that it's time for a reboot, and so far a reboot has always fixed the problem for me.
No I'm experiencing it too. It was working last night I know (at home) and it was working this morning.
My GF just called me at work, which was odd... and this makes sense. My WiFi Calling is stuck at "Enabling" also.
Tmobile has gotten rid of WiFi Calling on the newer phones because they are moving to a "new" standard. The new standard requires a new SIM card. WiFi Tethering is also not working out of the box.
Something is strange.
I even went into Apps and did a Force Stop and cleared cache and tried to launch it again... it just closes and never enables.
*UPDATE*
Now its working.
I never have connection problems, but the sound quality is terrible. The person on the other end sounds real robotic and choppy. It was like this even on my blackberry.
Now its saying invalid SIM. Sweet.

I have never used it but decided to test it because of this thread. Works great on weapon 3.0.
I bought an old sim card off eBay but haven't activated. May try it out. I'm on CM7 and it hasn't worked in days.

I am using an old similar card, wifi calling working fine, but I can't use Bluetooth.
Nightly 199, faux cm kernel.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi calling should not be affected by your SIM card in any way on the G2x.
You need a gsa sim. These sim cards are made in the usa. Yea America!!!! **** yeah.
No but on some real talk the sim cards made in America are good quality.
India, China, and Mexico made ones do not support wifi calling. Plus they go out every month

I swapped my wife's sim card (about one year old) with my newer one. I asked customer care to reprogram our phone numbers. Either card supports wifi calling in the Galaxy S 4g. The old card supports wifi calling in my g2x.
When I get to an area of known good coverage, I will run a speedtest to see if I lose any speed using the older card.

Where and how to find old simcard?
I called Tmobile service yesterday. 3 different rep told me that I need newer sim which support 4G and wifi calling and offered to upgrade the new sim card for 20 bucks. I got mad and asked to talk with mananger. Finally a tech rep honestly told me that there is issue with wifi calling for G2X and their engineers are working on the fix, but no date of completion yet.
She sent me to a tmobile store to get a new sim card, and said it might solve the problem, but not sure 100%.
I went to the store, change new sim card at no charge. but the wifi calling still not working.
now, I saw people put the comment in this forum that we need old sim card. How do I indenfify the old sim card? what number? or serial number ect???
Can I get it from ebay?
Thanks
Alpharetta.

OK.. I resolved the problem. I had TM9073 and it did not work with MUI ROM.. so I changed to newer sim card TM9102, and it still not work for wifi calling. I then read about the issue with MUI ROM. the wifi calling only work with CM7 ROM. So I reflash G2x with CM7, and still use TM9102 sim..
It takes 5 minutes to enable the wifi calling feature.. but it works now... so first thing first.. you need to make sure you have the correct ROM... and then sim.
Wifi calling on MIUI has only worked for me 3 times. That was on the first boot. I had the newer sim card. Just recently bought a older sim card and now wifi calling works for MIUI every time!!

It is the TM9073 Sim that is working properly on all other roms. The TM9102 is the Sim having problems with WiFi.

[Q] T-mobile on skyrocket

I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out whats going on. I got the tmobile\walmart plan for $30 that includes 5gigs of data a month at 4g speeds. My phone is unlocked and with the tmobile sim I am only getting edge speeds right out of the box, so I tried flashing various t989 modems with no luck. I would either get edge, or when I would try to goto apn settings it would say no sim installed. Right now Im using the Telus Kj3 modem, and still only getting edge. I am right in the middle of St. louis so I think getting tmobile 4g shouldnt be a problem. Also im on stock 2.3.6 rom. Any ideas?
Read the thread about this. Search

Ive been searching for two days, and have read about 35 different threads spread all over xda and the skyrocket forum regarding this problem and have tried a hundred different things. I need someone that has successfully gotten it to work that can point me in the right direction. Your advice of "search" does me no good. If I had found the answer, I wouldn't have created a new thread about it.

Well apart from the search advice ... it's too simple
-unlock the phone with a purchased unlock code
-put T mobile SIM
-flash T Mbile blaze 4G radio using ODIN
-in Android set up the T mobile apn settings
It should of been simple but it wasn't. After days of trying different roms and modems, and reading every page on it, I had no luck. So I invited someone over with a tmobile 4g phone, and I put my sim in it, and that phone didnt get 4g either. Finally figured out it was on tmobiles end, called them, and they fixed the issue. Also, after flashing the blaze modems, my phone said no sim card. The telus modem is the one that worked for me.

And it's always a good thing if somebody with a problem to disscuss here , would come back and say what worked for him/her so it can benfit the others
I had my wife call. I did not need a new sim. The first tech couldn't figure it out because he had her do things like take the battery out, and power cycle the phone which of course didn't work. So he escalated to a higher tech, which eventually tried "refreshing the signal." Wife said right after he did that, the 4g symbol came on my phone. Sadly though, Groove ip and talkatone don't carry a conversation to well while driving, even on 4g. I think I will try skype, and if that don't work I will have to switch my plan to something with more minutes.

[Q] VZW m8 to stright-talk

Hey everyone let me start off by saying if this has been reposed I did a search but could not get a "how-to" on the process
So i recently got a new phone and i have my old HTC one m8, my best friend is stuck in the stone age with a very old smart phone so i said "lets make his day". Before i do though i have some questions he uses straight talk as a carrier and since the VZW htc one m8's are primary CDMA but also have a SIM card and can run off of GSM towers (yes they can only use 3g). Is it possible to run this phone off of straight talks network if so where would i start?
I guess my main questions are:
Do i need to flash a AT&T rom?
even though its a vzw phone do i need to flash new radios?
do i need to alter my CID?
The phone is S-offed and rooted!
My bad if this is a poorly constructed thread, just needed to ask!
It is possible to run through straight-talk (i did a lot of dev work on st earliest androids) you need to have unlocked devices and get the byop SIM card for att. Not sure what size SIM these phones take.
Also... St has no network they just lease tower usage.
Not sure about the Rom though... Never done a Verizon to att switch.
Last edit... Your data cap is far from unlimited and they're not cool with tethering. They claim unlimited but at 2gb I believe they start throttling bad and are known to cut data and service for habitual offenders *I've read but not seen*(iirc)
I've been off st/net10 for a long time so their practices could have changed. I would advise you not to go st but that's just my opinion.

You can get the straight talk verizon sim kit and pop it in your verizon m8 and your up and running, it will use verizon towers everything the same just you will have a 5mb cap on your data speed but you will get verizon LTE data and with st verizon you will get 3 full gb's of LTE data for $45 a month unl talk & text.
If you try to use at&t you will not get LTE data only hspa which hspa can go from I believe 4mb's to 12 mb's download speed. Your better off getting the st verizon sim kit and run verizon through st.

He mentioned that yes but I also mentioned that he would not get at&t LTE data on his verizon m8 that he would most likely only get hspa data speeds using at&t. People have worked hard getting a verizon m8 to get LTE data on tmobile some with success but most say they have to keep toggling air plane mode to keep the tmobile LTE data working, and there are very little far fewer success stories of people even getting that far with at&t LTE data on a verizon m8.
Basically the best thing is either run the straight talk verizon LTE sim card in the verizon m8 or sell off the verizon m8 and get an at&t one or a tmobile one and even then you can convert it to a dev edition and get updates faster directly from htc.
No one has figured out a way to convert a verizon m8 to a dev edition even though the verizon m8 is a world phone with cdma and gsm both, for some reason you cant because of the cdma side.

I"am running my verizon m8 on straight talk verizon service and mine works great. Does your verizon m8's imei show clean for activation with verizon ? Because if your imei is blacklisted with verizon it wont work or may for a while until their system picks it up and locks out your sim card because of it.
Its really just as simple as popping the st verizon sim in and run with it, unless your not fully activated with straight talk ? If you ported your number in it can take a day or so even and if the port has issues it may not finish until you call straight talk about it.
Any questions just ask as I have experience with straight talk and my m8 works great on it.
The whole 1-7 days on a port is a claim by them they generally stick to. Though 95% of carriers do it in 24-48hrs tops.. twice with net10 I had to finally just get a new number to get service (which included buying another unlimited card). I'm not against st/net10/AmericanMovil I just have had too many experiences like the above trying to work with their customer service.

well the full story is i got a nexus 6 still had my htc one m8 thought i would give it to my friend, i popped the verizon sim card in and tried to register it but on straight talks website it informs me that it is not a compatible device, so before my friend proceeds in adding minutes to this new sim card he wants to make sure it will work.

Oh they tried that crap with me and I didnt take no for an answer I got through to a supervisor and I explained either they restore my 30 days of unlimited service or I file a charge back with my credit card company and they changed their tune and credited my account.
They get away with doing that too many times you can also tell them you will file a complaint with the better business bureau, or even talk about turning them in for internet fraud because it is a pure case of fraud when they wont give you the service that you paid for pure and simple.
I have ported numbers to straight talk 4 or 5 times over the years and it usually took mine less than a day to go through. Many times the problem can be the wrong account number as most people think their phone number is their account number when porting to another carrier and 98% of the time its not your account number you always have to call your cell provider and ask for your account number they like it that way because when you ask for your account number they know why your asking for it and they can try to talk you out of switching to another carrier.

Did you put the imei number in on the straight talk web site ? Because their web site will tell you if its ready for activation or if its elgible for activation. You can also check your imei on one of the free imei checker web sites and it will show the status of your imei number as far as being ready for activation.

Yeah... I spent 9 days and probably 30 phone calls talking to everyone I could get to including supervisors before I finally gave up out of frustration and just bought a new card (2 different occasions 9 days total). What I've found is their biggest issue is with Sprint numbers. At&t and tmobile seem to port easier. I've never worked with Verizon through st/net10.

I did and my IMEI is clean and not blacklsited, when i go to straight talks website it says "Unfortunately, your phone is not eligible for the Bring Your Own Phone program. The good news is that Straight Talk has a large selection of phones from leading manufacturers. Find a phone in-store or online that best fits your needs." the steps i went though is. 1: clicked check your phones compatibility 2: picked the red other carrier option 3: when a pop up says " is your phone a unlocked GSM phone" i picked no, and thus got this message.
Thanks everyone for helping me out again =D

You can also activate your sim in another verizon phone then put it in the m8 or just use another clean verizon imei to order the service with. Actually straight talk is easy to port to, now porting out of them now that is a real pain and takes longer. Straight talk is not a lot of fun to deal with but if you get it set up your free and clear and shouldnt have any further issues.

Do you have a friend that has a verizon phone that takes a nano sim ? If so just use their imei number to order the sim kit from straight talk it wont matter because that is just a verification to make sure your phone will work but I assure you the verizon m8 will work with the straight talk verizon sim cards.
Another thing you could do is just buy the st verizon sim card kit off ebay or amazon then just open the account on the st web site and activate your sim card number adding it to your new st account.
I appreciate the response but I wasnt the one having issues I was simply explaining my experience and putting the SIM in a different device won't help port a number. St May have gotten better but ime over two years of their android service it's best to just change your number. Outside of porting I've never had issues with them.

SCH-968C, ST sim on ST network, no apn settings

(ST sim, stock 4.1.2 rom, 968c variant)
a family member bought a used SCH-968c that was originally on Verizon without a sim card (i think, not sure about the sim but it was definitely originally on Verizon network). family member put their Straight Talk sim into the phone and everything works, 3G mobile data, SMS, and calling, but MMS will not work at all.
i know how to fix this issue because it is simple apn setting, i build roms for all my devices, and actively help root obscure ST devices, i'm not a noob by any means... but, there is no apn settings to be found in the settings app. as a matter of fact all that can be changed under mobile networks is turning mobile data on or off, there are no other settings at all available. 4.1.2 stock rom.
I want to fix this for my family member but I'm at a loss. I have read that I should root with Cydia Impactor and add two lines to the build.prop--but everyone who has said this has been using the other S3 that is not 968c. I've also seen that I should root and then download an apn manager and make it a system app and then it will work.
Someone give me clear, succinct instructions to how I can enable the apn settings dialog in settings without installing another rom because that will not work for this person. Also, I need links for whatever i need to download to get this done.
Thanks in advance. And please don't waste my time and burn this thread up like i'm a noob, I just don't like or use Samsung devices and there are too many devices that are alike but not exactly the same and all the info here is not very clear for this particular variant and i've read over 100 pages worth of posts here on the boards already to no avail

I had a similar issue with Net10 (a Sister Company of Straight Talk under TracFone) and i was going nuts!
What i had figured out was not to call them but, start a chat session on my PC with the support team.
For some reason, the support team in the chat session always knew what to do and the phone support individuals never really knew what to do and took forever with an array of crap that never worked.
In the chat session, i had told them the issue (be sure to always be polite as they will go the extra mile) and asked if they can do a Network Refresh or something to get it going. The chat support places me on a brief hold and usually asks me to restart the device. I do and WHAM! it's taken care of and all is well with a Thank you to them and done.
A network refresh is something that they perform (using your devices IMEI and SIM number) via some type of submission to the carriers system and towers that seems to resolve the issue.
I can't state that this is a guaranteed fix but, this is what I found to work for me.
I wish you the best of luck!

I can help you get this straight I believe. I'm one of the guys that figured out the whole SIM/APN mess when it comes to this device a while back.
First, I need to know which baseband you have, it should end in H1 or H2.
There are no APN settings in stock on S968C.
What network are you trying to use it on? If you're using it on Straight Talk then you shouldn't need a SIM at all unless you use a custom ROM.
I think the issue is from the device being put on Verizon and then coming back to Straight Talk. It's a Straight Talk device, it "should" work on Straight Talk with no modification needed.

I have the device rooted and have custom recovery installed. I've already tried the adding two lines to build.prop like for the galaxy note and it causes bootloop. reverted that and then tried APN manager and it allowed me to input APN settings but they don't actually work and APN manager crashes as soon as a picture message is attempted.
it is baseband h1, 4.1.2 android.
i have since found out that it was originally purchased from straight talk for use on Verizon network through ST. My family member bought it used from a friend who said it was Verizon, when in fact it is ST phone without a sim. family member put her sim in the phone and now it has her number and everything works except MMS. MMS will not send but all other data connections and calls and SMS work.
removing the sim there's no data connection but calls can be made only.

I don't know where you're getting this stuff about the build.prop or note 2 from, I've been all over everything about this device for 3 years and never saw anything about that. I think you're confusing information about the Verizon S3 SCH-I535 (which the S968C actually is but "isnt").
Did she try activating it normally without the SIM? All she has to do is go to the Straight Talk website or call support to activate it on Straight Talk normally, they should do everything from their end and should only need her account information, the number she wants to keep and her MEID/IMEI number.
I'm not exactly understanding why you're using a SIM in the first place. It isn't needed and isn't how the S968C is activated on the Straight Talk network. It's a 3G device, the only devices that would require a SIM on the Straight Talk network are it's own 4G/LTE devices and devices from other networks using the BYOP CDMA or GSM kit.
But regardless, she can flash any of the d2vzw custom ROMs and use my guide linked below for getting it setup so that mobile data and MMS work correctly.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...de-to-flashsetup-sim-apn-cm-cm-based-t3351290
That thread has everything that should you need to know about this model and flashing it.

number one it's not my phone,
and number two I use straight talk exclusively and out of like 10 devices in the last 7 years none have been on Verizon networks so I have no idea how to advise my family member
and three I have no control what they do with their device before they asked me for help

I'm trying to help, I'm just saying that somewhere somebody went the wrong way. My guide I linked above should get her straight if she use a d2vzw custom ROM, if there are any APNs stored on her SIM she'll be able to access them.
My suggestion is call Straight Talk and have them activate like it's supposed be done instead of using the SIM, it's a stock 3g device, it wasn't designed to need a SIM for the Straight Talk network. She should be able to get them to straighten it out in 15 minutes or so.
All of my Straight Talk devices for the last 5 years have used Verizon towers.

i realize you are trying to help but i've explained everything three times now and you have yet to offer a solution, only "it should've been done this way" when that is no longer relevant because it has been done the way it has by someone who isn't me and wasn't me to begin with.
can you offer a solution instead of "someone messed up somewhere" because that has been firmly established at this point...

I've told you twice, call Straight Talk and they will do it from their end like it was supposed to be done in the first place. All of my posts so far have been to tell you that you're going about it all wrong.
And I DID provide a solution, it was to flash a custom d2vzw ROM, any one of them you want, then use the SIM and the guide I created for this model to get the SIM and APNs set up correctly, it's all in the guide. You're so focused on getting it right the way you've been doing it that you aren't paying attention to anything that doesn't get you further in that direction. I'm sorry but I won't do that when I know it's the wrong direction. I gave you the right direction, it's your choice whether you take it or not.
One of you thinks they know something and doesn't want to listen to someone that actually does know this device practically inside and out, if you search, you'll see a plethora of information all over Google that I've provided about this specific device and how to do everything from rooting to flashing custom recovery and ROMs to unbricking and restoring to stock.

never mind I got it. I had remove sim car and do a factory reset. now it's good. glad to know it was that easy. apparently my family member putting their sim card in the phone messed up the activation process

So it's activated with SIM? Or without? I'm curious if it works that way or not, kind of a backwards way doing it with a SIM on this device instead of normal activation.

no. I removed sim card. then I did a factory reset. now it works like it's supposed to without sim card on Verizon towers.
my family member originally put her sim in the device not knowing the difference between a GSM and CDMA device, and then she activated the phone like byop on ST website. that was the problem. ST should have informed my family member when she entered imei of the device in the online activation process that a sim was unneccesary and all this could've been avoided.
