Downloading a Rom and kernels. - HTC Sensation

I downloaded a Rom and kernel directly to my sensation 4G and some went to my downloads on my sensation and some on my download manager I believe it was called.so basically does that mean that they are on the root of my sd card?If there not how to I get them transfered to my sd card.and when I tried to install a kernel on my phone I booted into recovery and then from the first screen I went into install from sd card then choose zip from the sd card and then choose what ever zip file you want to download and then back out to reboot your phone anyways when I went into install sd card I couldn't find my download the rom zip file that I downloaded.can you please explain if I'm doing this all right.and please correct me where needed.I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi,
I use ES File Explorer.
When I long press a file/zip/download And press "Move To ",the first place it offers me is the root of my sd card.So I press OK.
When you go to recovery, install zip, choose zip, then it will take you to the root of your sd card.
If you cannot see your file/zip,then it is elsewhere.

Did you look in the "downloads" folder when you tried to install from sd card? It should be in there since you downloaded it directly on your phone. Putting your files on the root of your sd card is much easier, eliminates having to go into folders searching for the file.

I'm just learning too but I noticed my downloads went into a download folder when I download directly to my device.I have a hunch this is where yours went also. Mine automatically went into the folder. At first I could not find mine either but after looking there they were in the folder. Hope this helps you out!

Hi,
I use Maxthon browser, and it creates it's own folder(MxBrowser) on the root of my sd card .
Inside this, there is a folder called "Downloads"
Everything I download when I am using that browser goes there.
Then just use ES File Explorer as I suggested earlier.

Hey thanks a lot.I appreciate it.

Extra HTC Sense 2.1 Skins
Edit: I'd also like to stress that these skins are not my work. I merely found them by accident on the Desire HD forums, and sopL87 (the original author) has kindly let me post the link here.

Hi
Do you mean the file transfer failed or the installation? How are you trying to move them over? Could be a couple of things:
1. I have found that the stock web browser has a bug in it where sometimes downloading a .zip file downloads as a useless .bin file and hence wont install. Try downloading from a PC and then manually moving the .apk file to your sd card for installation.
2. You have not allowed the installation of applications outside of the Market. Go to Menu> Settings> Applications and make sure 'Unknown sources' is ticked.
3. Make sure you extract the .apk from the zip file before putting it on your sd card, or use a file explorer app that can install apps from within a zip. I think Androzip can do this.
Hi again,
I downloaded the zip file on pc and tried 2 copy the zip file on 2 SD card but kept failing so do I have 2 extract the file 1st then put it on SD card

When you say failing, exactly what is happening. Can you please describe your procedure step-by-step and quote any error messages. I'm not sure what is going wrong here.
Ok, ive got the zip file on my computer SD card in and I find the zip on my downloads folder and right click and copy then go in2 SD card and right click paste it says.copying then after a few minutes it says it can't find it and won't copy it in2 my SD card

^ Unzip the contents first on your PC. Connect your phone to your PC, select "Disk Drive". A window should pop up , showing the contents of your SD card. Using your PC, make a new folder on your SD card, then copy the apk's from your PC to your SD card. To install the apk's you'll need apps like Astro which will allow you to browse the contents of your SD card and give you the option to install them. Use Astro to locate the new folder you made and open it to view contents. Select the appropriate skin apk and install it. Once installed you will be able to find the new skins at "Skins" under Customization. This is assuming you haven't recieved the new HTC over the air system update, because if you did you won't be able to install the new skins anymore ( which is what happened to me, and unfortunately I don't know how to roll back the update ).
Ok thanks I will try it soon

Can't see .zip in CWM recovery

I looked for an answer before posting but couldn't find it and hoping someone can help out. I rooted my rogers skyrocket and installed ClockworkMod Recovery. I am trying to install a new ROM but when I boot in recovery I cannot see the .zip file on the SD Card but I can see it in file manager. Any ideas or solutions?
Is the zip on the external or internal SD?
rocketed to da sky using mah brain and mah thumbs...
If on internal u have to select install from internal

Its on the external card.
Is it on the root of external sdcard? Excuse me for asking the obvious question but a lot of times its something silly that's been overlooked.

Yes, its on the root of the external SD card but I can only see the folders and no other files.
Look at the file format. Make sure its .zip and not .zip.zip. sometimes copying files from your computer to your phone will do this.

Its .zip and not .zip.zip but I am only seeing it in the file manager or on the computer when the phone is connected but in CWM all I see is the folders of the SD card and no other file.
This is really starting to piss me off, I downloaded about 5 different roms and none of them is showing on the SD card in CWM recovery in order to install. Is there any other way to install the ROM or anything I could do to see the files in CWM? I am sure the .zip file is on the SD card and I can see it when i file manager but once I go into CWM to install I cant see it. If anyone had this problem and has a way to fix it please let me know. Thank you.
I think I found a way to do it and its through Rom manager, there is an option to install ROM from SD card I clicked it and now i think its installing. Hope it works. I'll post my results in case someone has the same problem.
Solved the problem. I can only flash new ROM from ROM manager.
Try flashing cwm again or flash touch cwm.

Transfering downloads

How do I transfer downloads from maxthon browser to the root of my sd card.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
hhhhh......
when a download starts, it asks where you want to save it right??
do you look at that? and see where it's downloading at?
if it doesn't ask where to download (as i never used maxthon before), it's most probably in a folder called """DOWNLOADS""" that's magically created in your SD card.
Thanks for the reply and zI know that they usually go in the download folder but this time they did but I found then thanks..

**** please don't yell at me.

When installing a new rom do I want to download the rom on my phone first or do I want to clear all partitiabs except the SD card I just don't want to download the rom and then erase it be doing a partitions clean except the SD card.please explain the process.I download my new roms to my phone directly then I put then on zip file then install them on my SD card.
Sent from my HTC Sensation using XDA
Have you rooted and installed a custom recovery? If so, then you would download the rom (directly to the phone or you can copy the rom to the SD Card) and then reboot into recovery, after you've gone into recovery select "install from sd card" and then navigate to the rom .zip file.
Installing a new rom
You should download 4ext recovery, download the rom on your computer if possible and then put it onto your sd card and use 4ext recovery to make a nandroid backup of your current rom in case you want to revert to it and flash your new rom.

Delete the PC58IMG.zip from the SD card or take out the SD card.

Yup, Delete or Rename the PG58IMG.zip file.
You can also pop the SDcard out before it first goes into the Bootloader.
Yeah remove your SD card until your in recovery or delete the PG58IMG.zip from it with your pc/laptop
After upgrading with a pg58img it is ALWAYS necessary to delete or remove after the upgrade because the file will continuously be trying to upgrade It's self if you do not do this as you found out. I personally after upgrade take out my sd card and pop it in a card reader then plug into computer and delete the file this way. Then put my sd back and I'm good to go. Hope this helps and explains why you must delete the file. After the file is deleted your problem will be solved.

There are some ways around this such as pulling the sdcard prior to the scanning performed by the bootloader. However, just to be safe, remove the zip from another machine (tablet, pc, etc)
