Dear XXXXXXX,
I can understand how important it is to have the latest software available on your myTouch 4G. I’ll be glad to help you, Roy. Our goal is to give every customer the best possible experience on every phone. Every HTC phone is a combination of a unique HTC hardware and software experience and a core operating system. We only update our phones if it will provide an overall improved user experience as we balance features, performance and usability. We are continuing to assess our product portfolio, but for now we will only update the following phones to Ice Cream Sandwich: • DROID Incredible 2 by HTC • HTC Amaze 4G • HTC Desire S • HTC Desire HD • HTC EVO 3D • HTC EVO Design 4G • HTC EVO 4G+ [Not the EVO 4G sold in North America] • HTC Incredible S • HTC Sensation • HTC Sensation XL • HTC Sensation 4G • HTC Sensation XE • HTC Raider • HTC Rezound • HTC Rhyme • HTC Thunderbolt • HTC Vivid • HTC Velocity 4G
This does not mean that the myTouch 4G for sure will not receive an update to Android 4.0, but at this time that device is not expected to get an update to it. If you have any other questions or concerns, please let us know. Thanks for being an HTC customer and for taking the time to contact us.
Let me know if I have successfully answered your question, please click here to complete this.

Well, thanks for trying. Don't worry though. The Desire HD will be getting ICS and we share the same SoC, so it will be an easy port, and once the kernel source drops we'll be rolling in custom kernels (we hope).
I'm ok w/o a camera, however ifvwe are fortunate enough to get one on sense 4, I'm certain I will retire my mt4g on S4, I love it that much! Got my fingers crossed. I'm gonna be keeping up with which phone has the most interest in developing, & I'll choose my next device accordingly. Thanks for all u guys do...

Damn! Even the rhyme will be getting ics.
But anyways, like I said in the other thread above this one and in plenty other ics threads, mytouch 4g won't get an official ics update because of it being T-Mobile branded, with its own sense(mysense).

Hi, do you think its possible in early future? Run Android 4.0 on HTC Desire S device?

Evil bastard - getting my hopes up! lol.
Thought maybe HTC had been secretly working on it behind the scenes to give us all a super fast update and make us all love them!

You'd better be patient if you're expecting an update OTA from HTC, as we're still waiting on the gingerbread 2.3.5 to be officially released worldwide...
I expect the devs to have an ICS ROM for Desire S up pretty soon.

I believe Superkid got close to getting everything working. He said he'd release once he gets it stable. If I know superkid, it shouldn't be too long from now

Samarth Rasiwasia - 05:07 (modification) - En mode public
Technically all the Android powered devices capable of running of Android Gingerbread will be able to run Android 4.0 ICS but Practically all devices may not give an overall good user experience . So all the manufactures are reviewing ICS on their devices to check the user experience and will release the latest OS according to the results.
HTC's list of devices that will surely get ICS :
* HTC Sensation (XL,XE,Original)
* HTC EVO 3D
* HTC Incredible S
* HTC Desire HD
* HTC Flyer
* HTC Rhyme
* HTC Desire S
Update (1) : No ETA's as yet. But may take 2-4 months because of the integration of Sense UI. HTC is definitely making every effort to provide update to most of the phones. Testing is under process. Desire Z and Salsa is going out of the list ,usability issues.
Update (2) : The phones exclusively on carriers such as HTC Amaze 4G,Thunderbolt,etc. will receive the update late.
Update (3) : New devices,i.e,Released after May 2011 will receive the updates prior to the old phones like Desire HD .

And the other about Google Nexus one => Google: Nexus One is Too Old for Ice Cream
And this => No Ice Cream Sandwich For The Nexus One, Says Google
Good news there for all us Desire S users
Apologies if this has been posted but I have just seen that HTC has not mentioned the desire S in its list of devices to receive ICS. Whether this will be added later I'm not quite sure but for now it'll have to be custom roms I guess
HTC knows how excited our fans are to get their hands on Google's latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, so we're thrilled today to announce the first wave of HTC phones that will receive upgrades: We can confirm the brand new HTC Vivid is upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich. In addition, Ice Cream Sandwich is coming in early 2012 to a variety of devices including the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE, as well as the HTC Rezound, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G and HTC Amaze 4G through close integration with our carrier partners. We're continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich.
NOTE: THIS DOES NOT EXCLUDE THE POSSIBILITY OF THE DESIRE S RECEIVING ICE CREAM SANDWICH

well DS is not on HTC unlock list too but works...If HTC Sensation receive ICS we will have quality port i'm sure but lets hope that we will get official version too
It says in its 1st wave ,doesn't say that's all that will get ICS
I personally think that we will get it as the DS can handle it, plus thats not every device that is getting it.

That's why I said I'm not sure whether more devices will be added. I probably should've been a little clearer in the title.
I shall amend it
I just figured this was worth mentioning
Besides who knows how long we'll have to wait for an official release

Honestly.. I can't see a HTC update to Ice Cream sandwich giving us much more than we already have because they'll overwrite most of the improvements with the Sense bloat. (Don't get me wrong, Sense adds something, but ICS appears to have more improvements on top of that)
We already have CyanogenMod, so it'll just be a case of waiting until the source is out and it's merged with the CM repos and we can install nighties, and off we go!

HTC have to provide an ICS update to the desire S otherwise they will be breaching Google's update policy/ anti fragmentation initiative. These state that all android handset manufactures who release a phone anytime from Q2 2011 onwards MUST guarantee that they they provide updates to the latest version of android for the first 18 months frmo the release date of the phone. Members of the Open Handset Alliance (which HTC is a member) all had to agree on this to google. Desire S was released in April 2011, that means it fits into the Q2 section.
Whaaaaat?
They are crazy!!!!!!!!!!
They HAVE TO update our device.

So the HTC Evo Design 4G is supported with its 1.2Ghz cpu.
I believe the devs can port it from there to nearly every 2010 phone from Htc (except the really low ends; like Wildfire, Salsa and Chacha)
I really don´t see how that 200Mhz should make the difference between an HTC approved Android Experience and a sluggish Custom Rom.
I wonder if a tweaked DHD with ~1.8Ghz will beat any of the new devices on Stock-Ics.
Damn. I want ICs + sennse .
Sad to say, I don't think we will get it
However they did say they will support phone with updates 18 months upon release date.
Theoretically they should release this for the Wildfire/chacha/salsa too...
I how HTC doesn't let us down!

We shouldn't jump to any conclusions, but if this is the case then after only six months they affectively abandoned software updates for the Desire S. That would be a disgrace.
The problem with HTC is, as good as their phones are, they're over-saturating the market with too many handsets (from an update point of view).
Anyway, I guess we won't know until the next "wave" is announced.

It makes it much harder for them to keep up with updates faster than they are making the phones !

Bellow you'll find a quote from the official HTC facebook page

Even if I'm a little disapointed with the dates that are being pushed a little put back (I guess the release of new devices at MWC has a priority) it is nice to see that HTC Are updating phone that came out in 2010, I think Motorola and Samsung should take notice of this.
Is it only due to the Sense Interface that the HTC Desire does not get an ICS update from HTC itself?

What has Sense got to do with it?
I think the delay has more to do with the fact that they are using their own overlay. The HTC Sense just like Samsung, and Motoblur they have to pretty much recode everything to work with the new software. What I don't understand is the fact that the beta for ICS came out in what Nov? Yet It's 5 months before HTC is going to put out their first ICS update it's very disappointing.
They publicly released the ICS code in Nov as well, but for in private I'm not sure why these companies were not giving it sooner.
I'm surprised the Sensation is the very first to get updated instead of all the newer ones at the same time.

Ice cream sandwich update
I am glad to see that the HTC sensation is one of the first phones to receive the much talked about ice cream sandwich update. I am wondering though because I have a rooted phone with the CID removed, if HTC would push the update or T-Mobile. I thing we may have a problem if T-Mobile pushes the update. That last one they did, they are soft bricked my phone. I had to get it manually from Xda developers. I just wanted to send this out as a warning to everyone that would update if they have a rooted phone, especially with the SID removed.
ICS in the Future HTC
Ice Cream Sandwich is the las version of Android devices but only two smartphone have this version Galaxy Nexus And Nexus S of Samsung, i like the idea the map road of update ICS for HTC devices, this include Sense 4.0 and ICS, the bad is the HTC is slowly update OTA performance, but the door is open
Nice, my fiancee will be very happy to hear that about her Sensation 4G!
Can't waiting, so I choose ARHD 6.2.1 for ICS taste

comes because the need to let it be tested by google before its approved for release. this is the most time taking part of the rom.
Hopefully this should help the devs get some quality working ROMs out.
Even if HTC will support ICS on the Desire, AT&T had essentially cut all ties with the Inspire 4G. Main reason I rooted in the first place.

That is awesome!! THANXXX!!
It gladdens me to reveal a 'sort-of' official release date for Ice Cream Sandwich on the Sensation & Sensation XE! The following statement was released by HTC on their Facebook* UK page.
HTC has been working hard to get its Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades ready, and we’re excited to announce that our first round of ICS upgrades will roll out by the end of March for the HTC Sensation and HTC Sensation XE, followed soon thereafter by the HTC Sensation XL.
Obviously the release date isn't going to be the most popular around people, as we were expecting the update to come much quicker. However this may point to HTC releasing Sense 4.0 to the Sensation straight away. Although it would be a strange market move, its after the MWC the just before HTC would probably release it's new phones. This article here talks about HTC's announcement.
The statement on HTC's page continues on to say the following.
In addition, we can confirm Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades will be coming later this year to the HTC EVO 3D, HTC Incredible S, HTC Desire S and HTC Desire HD. Stay tuned for more updates on Ice Cream Sandwich releases in the coming weeks
*It has also been confirmed by HTC US (on Facebook) that the following devices will be getting ICS at some point later this year: The Rezound, Vivid, Amaze 4G and EVO Design 4G. All these phones are in the USA!
Thanks for sharing !
Obviously it is a great news for the owners of "older HTC devices" , like DHD... etc

Today HTC said on Facebook that the ICS update will include "the latest version of Sense". From what I know they are planning to introduce their new flagman phone very soon and it will be using Sense 4. Therefor I really hope our ICS will include Sense 4 as well. I was also expecting the OTA this month but maybe one month delay will proof worth waiting.

Well the last leak had Sense 3.6, so I don't think the guy really knows.
Well he's obviously not going to confirm something that hasn't been announced. Sense 3.6 and 4.0 have bot actually been officially announced where as Sense 3.5 has. Sense 3.5 is currently the latest, but of course they wouldn't revert to 3.5 because it would be loads of development gone to waste!
