Hi,
I'm new to HTC One S and I am not allowed to root it.
I assume I can install official ROMs but I don't know where I can find them.
Thank you,
Moshe
Official ROMs are know as RUU's.
They can be found here
The official ROMs are the software that the phone is running out of the box, or any subsequent Carrier released OTA. Anything else would be a custom ROM requiring unlocking the bootloader, installing CWM and either rooting the stock ROM or installing a custom ROM.

I have a rooted HTC Desire and have Cyanogen 7.1 as the OS. Which I am very happy with. I am shortly going to get a Desire S as an upgrade .Is there any problems Rooting and will Cyanogen be able to be the OS.

you should come check out the HTC DESIRE S forum
Shouldn't have any problems rooting, although does depend on the bootloader version and ROM version. As some of the last few ROM versions released have had exploits fixed.
S-OFF is achievable through the released AlphaRevx software on most HBOOT versions.
there isn't yet an official Cyanogen 7.1 release. but users have already made ports which have been running fine for weeks now on the device..
See you in the forum soon......
Sadly Desire S doesn't have official CyanogenMod support, but you can find unofficial CM 7.1 and nightlies roms, also ZuluGen ROM is based on CM.
No problem to root the Desire S, Revolutionary to S-OFF, then use Gingerbreak to root.
I was planning to install CM7.1, then realised that the update from HTC changed the HBOOT along with the Sense 3.0 update. But apparently the bootloader can be unlocked officially by HTC.
Question is, how do I install a custom ROM with this method? I'm assuming you need to install CWMR, which needs root. Then use that to flash the ROM. Can anyone who has used this method tell me exactly how it's done on the Desire S?
Help is really appreciated, thank you.

Hello All,
I just rooted my HTC One X (on ATT 1.85 software version). I have still not unlocked bootloader. I am looking for some good stable Sense based ROM since my wife is going to use the phone. I am also looking to have OTG and MHL support on the ROM. Can anyone suggest a ROM for this? I looked around and found that ElemantalX V3.0 has OTG support. Can anyone suggest me a ROM?
Additionally, do I need to unlock bootloader to flash a new ROM? What kind of precaution I should take while flashing? I am doing it on SGS2, so I know bsasics but not familier with the process.
Thanks,
Hey there! If you're looking for a close to stock experience I suggest clean Rom...and yes you need to unlock bootllader..with HTC its either bl unlock or s-off and we don't have s-off yet
You're either already unlocked and don't know it, or you're not really rooted. You can't root without unlocking first.
Thanks Guys,
I will check for unlock (may be I don't know and am unlocked). I used 1.85 one click unlock, but didn't use HTCDev.
I will also checkout CleanROM.
By the way are there any Jellybean roms? I wanted to have ability of transferring photos using NFC.
Thanks again.

With 1.85 and the one click you are not bootloader unlocked. You still have to go through HTC Dev. As for ROMs, if you are trying to stay close to stock then I would go with CleanROM also.

Yeah there are plenty of JB ROMs in the original android development section. But since you want sense ROMs I would suggest looking in the android development section, the top 2 ROMs there seem to be CleanROM and ViperXL. There is also a JB sense ROM but it is very unstable.
I'm currently running 4.1.1 with sense 4+ with firm 3.18. I was just looking to upgrade to sense 5 for now. Is this just a matter of finding the software, putting it on int extsd and flashing from stock recovery.
If not can somebody please help me out with what this process would consist of and maybe point me in the right direction to where I can start.
Would rooting and flashing a sense 5 rom be easier from this point. because I am wanting to root and flash something soon. I am very familiar with this process but. Just not for this device. I'm new to this device so please be generous with advice and wisdom. I thank everybody for thier contributions in advance.

After you get it rooted, then I would s-off the phone and flash the 2.15 firmware because without that or the Beastmode kernel, you will have problems with reboots and signal drops if you flash a Sense 5 Rom.
The only way for you to have Sense 5 is to unlock your bootloader, at&t have not yet released a Sense 5 update. Click the link provided by Egrier, navigate to the root section, find the 3.18 root method and follow those instructions. Once your bootloader is unlocked you can install TWRP recovery. Once you have TWRP recovery installed you can install root so you can get s-off, then you can upgrade to the 2.15 firmware package, then you can flash a Sense 5 ROM. Before doing any of this you should do a bunch of research, you may be familiar with unlocking/rooting but each device has its own quirks and you should be aware of this before beginning.
PS. In future please post questions in the Q&A section found here:

im have a htc one m7 on verizon android 4.4.2 sense 6
im trying to get the ViperOne rom into this phone but the phone is not s-off(unable to) not rooted, no TWRP,
is there anyway to install this amazing rom without soff the device, if possible, please instruct me
Hi,
I'm not an expert in HTC devices but I think that yes, you need s-off to install custom ROMs so you'll have to check your phone's forum to see how you can do it and then flash the ROM.
Greetings
Well my Verizon cannot be s off. What should i do
