Keeping HOX Clean ?! - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I was wondering, whats the best method to clean the dirt/dust that get stuck just on the edge of the screen !?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA

Use scotch tape and just dab into the areas with dust (don't try to sweep it with the tape, you'll just leave glue on it.).

Excellent solution. Also, if you have one of those pressurized air cans, for cleaning keyboards, that helps.

Go to a local computer store and buy this green gooey stuff called "cyber clean". It removes dust from hard to reach places. It's works pretty good on my one x.

I tape up the openings and rinse it under luke-warm water.

I did it with my iPhone as well.

Compressed air is the best for cleaning electronics unless you've really gunked it up. Don't go poking anything in there unless you really have to.
If air doesn't work, there are specialized cleaning solutions that will work; make sure you get something that is designed for electronic use and follow the directions.

I usually use a very slim piece of paper to get the particles out.. if I have my compressed air, that works super well also.

Holy ****! I'm kinda afraid of heights so that was tough to watch. Everytime the camera moved I kept feeling like he was about to fall backward. I mean one slip and you're a goner.
I can't believe just watching that would take my breath away. You're 100% correct about the sweaty palms/hands.

The first 7 minutes I was thinking how amazing it'd be to do that, then I was like HELL NO.

I use sandpaper. Of course, chuck Norris does the same thing

[Q] Lens covers?

Does anyone have an solution to cover/protect the camera lens on the phone?
Not so much from scratches, but mostly lint/dust.
I seem to have this problem with most phones (not just the Optiums V), and it seems to be a function of manufacturers recessing the lens to protect it from scratches, or surrounding it with a bezel.
Crap just accumulates against the edges, and I find I have to clean it out every so often or the picture quality suffers.

Lol yep, the simple solution! If I ever remember, I like to put some alcohol or some sort of cleaning fluid and wipe around with a cotton swab.
I just cleaned mine the other day with a damp q-tip. Then used the dry side to wipe off the little bit of water left on the cover.
I am going to do this about once a week or so just to keep crap outta there!

My p500 suffers from this, the only solution is to take it apart from what i've gathered, which will void your warranty. :/

[Q] Case Customization

I've ordered cases from ebay and I'm interested in customizing them by drawing designs on the back with sharpie(design is attached). My only problem is that I know it's gonna wear off and I was wondering if anyone knew how to make the design permanent. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
im no expert but maybe you can put a thin layer of varnish on it?

You could use a clear coat spray i would think. They sell it at auto parts stores. Made to spray over paint. Although it may seal it, it wont protect from pregnancy or STDs..
PS. If the clear coat doesn't work, maybe you could put a condom over it? That should protect it

you could argue that the 2 limbs are in the backside of the pictures.
But I think your updated version looks more like the bottom view of a penis, with all the nice shadows on the trunk

Definitely automotive clear coat. I've used it on projects like this, and it's great.

Painting My Infuse

So, I've been considering painting my Infuse's shell. Since I do not use a case, the original paint is scratched and wearing in some places, so I want to paint it a new color and make it look fresh and new, as well as unique. I would be keeping the back plate the same for now, so it would just be the trim of the phone.
If I had to return it, I would try and repaint it again with something close to the original color...does anybody think an ATT rep would notice if it was slightly different? This is the only thing keeping me from tearing apart my Infuse right now. Haha.
Also, any thoughts on what colors would look good? I has thinking white, red, or lime green

As for being able to paint it back, that color would be hard to match, maybe the smoked chrome rattle can paint you can buy at an auto store...

DO NOT! I REPEAT! DO NOT TRY TO PAINT THIS PHONE!
To start, you would need to remove the top coat, sanding it down will not work. maybe a credit card or gift card to remove the top coat, then you would need to erase the chrome under the top coat, which sanding will not help. I am currently sporting a black infuse after the hell i tired to paint it. Looks nice in black though. but it is not worth it. i ordered a new housing for it. because black doesn't really cut it. for me at least.

It just doesn't work. It only smooths out the paint to a blur. I had to scratch it off. Then with a eraser erase the chrome paint. Pain in the ass. Really. And as for the touch up paint. Idk how that would work out.

You can paint this plastic without removing the "topcoat" if you know what you are doing, and know your way around any auto parts store. You need to obtain an adhesion promoter primer, and spray that first before attempting your final paint coat. I'd recommend Duplicolor http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/we...ol-Duplicolor_7140919-P_N3281A_T|GRP2050_____

Hmmm. Maybe ill try starting with lower grit and move up gradually to smooth it out. I think the plastic is sturdy enough to handle a few different passes at various grits.
If not, ill remove it in the fashion you presented, then sand down the plastic a bit after.
Either way, I really want to try this. Where did you find the replacement housing? That'd be good to know just in case I eff something up. Hell, if its cheap enough I might just buy that to mod and only tear apart my infuse if I'm successful.

What grit did you use Prime? you make it sound like you used some chunky ass sandpaper. Lol 1500 or less grit should be perfect to take the top coat off; that grit would "fog" rather than scratch the surface...
Linux has a good idea with the adhesion promoter. I used it to paint the fender plastics on my ATV and it stuck until I went riding lol.

Jesus brah, you know you didn't have to completely remove the paint right? I just meant for the sandpaper to "prep" the surface so the paint would stick. 1500 or 2000 will get the job done and leave you with a nice smooth prepped surface.

Hey Prime, you could just sand the black with 1500 to smooth it out, add a couple layers of black, then 2 or 3 layers of clear coat (all at autozone) I bet it would look legit...or atleast till your replacement gets there! lol

That is one tough phone. I ordered a few thin cases for the phone but since seeing these videos they are probably not necessary. A case would ruin a beautiful phone.
The camera is recessed in the North American version about a mm into the case . Just be vigilant where you set the phone down. I am thinking no case is needed for this phone.
No case or screen protector for me

Need help getting super glue off my phone

I was doing some stuff around the house and grabbed some super glue to fix one of my son's toys and stuck it in the same pocket I had my phone in, and I am sure you know what happened next, the glue leaked in my pocket. It doesn't eat threw a finger nail, it was designed to melt finger nail glue, aka super glue. Being a mechanic, I have never Seen finger nail polish remover melt plastic, not the plain old formula.. it's what I would do. Actually, now that I think of it, I use fiber nail polish remover, to get the grease off of my phone, I have the white one and being a mechanic, it gets greasy in about the first 10 mins of my work day

I guess it depends how the plastic was made, certain plastics do deteriorate when you use nail polish on them. Done it before
I usually use armor all personally to get the gunk off my phone.
But if it works it works!

Do not use nailpolish remover. Its active ingredient is acetone, at verying strengths. It will eat through the case of your phone, maybe not completely, but it will ruin the finish most likely.
Idk, try it and see? If you have a white phone that might be different plastic from the grey one.
If you have the box it came in it should say something about how to get it off incase you glue your fingers together.

I tried the vegetable oil (well actually canola oil) and it did seem to break down the glue a little. I thought about finger nail polish but didn't want to risk it. I also used my new knife which is very sharp to scrape some of it off. Between those two things and zagg wipes it got most of it off. I am sure over time the rest will wear off. Thanks guys

Regular is still watered down acetone... It will have the same effect if you hold it there long. The nailpolish remover won't melt through fingernail because your nails are not made out of plastic, not because it's diluted.
If I told you 90% rubbing alcohol melts plastic (usually doesn't), would you try 70%?
Idk, maybe you would. I wouldn't.

They do make non-acetone nail polish remover, which usually contains ethyl acetate. But it also doesn't break down super glue very well. At least not for the amount of time I applied it to super glue.
Acetone won't eat the plastic if just exposed for a short time, but might etch or haze the surface, ruining the appearance.
I see.. guess I've never bought non-acetone nailpolish before.
I once tried to remove a painted logo from my monitor when I was younger using nailpolish remover and it started eating through the plastic after a short while. That's why I was cautioning against it.

Probably depends on the type of plastic. Some chemicals will start to etch or melt some types of plastic almost instantly, but no other types of plastics. Nail polish remover comes in plastic bottles, after all!
Of course if you don't know what the result will be, its best to assume the worst.
Hehe, guess that's true, it does come in a plastic bottle. It would be an interesting experiment for someone who has their hox disasembled to see if nailpolish remover eats the inside of their shell.

To clairify, no, I still don't. As red said there are different kinds of plastic. The kind I tried actually was eaten by nailpolish remover. The nailpolish remover that does not contain acetone didn't work for red at all.

I would be more worried aabout the super glue melting tthe plastic more then I will the standard finger nail polish remover. Have you ever tried to glue certain kinds of plastic together with super glue? It melts some plastics. Anyways do whatever floats you're boat. Like I said it didn't melt my phone so yea... Lol have a nice day folks!

FYI - Acetone will dissolve some plastics like polystyrene, polycarbonate, polypropylene. The bottle it comes in is HDPE. AFAIK the body of the One X is polycarbonate.
Guys, try Bio Oil. It doesn't break down the glue like acetone, but it seems to soften it and lift it so you can use friction (fingertip) to remove it. Common sense tips - a tiny drop goes a long way and start closer to the centre of the screen if you can.
You can try pine sol
