I own a HTC Sensation 4G Z-710a with Rogers Wireless as carrier
I checked update today and got it. (and Rogers do not support Sensation or even have it in their phone list)
- Bell/Telus users please reply and see if you got it too ?
U probably have unlocked Sensation Z710a with Bell Canada ROM. My wife has a same one and she is with Rogers also. Yesterday (May 23) bell finally released ICS ROM for Sensation. I had ICS on my Z710e for close 2 months already.
I had to wait until today to get proper OTA ICS ROM for my wife's phone and I am unlocking it right this moment to get rid of all Bell's junk finally.

ya i have the unlocked North American version =P (Pacific Mall FTW!)
Android 4.0 is simply amazing comparing to 2.3.x
bell mobility pushed the OTA update to may dad's phone today. all went well. 4g finally got the love.
Can one of you guys please upload and post the update?!
Hi all! (this is my first post)
I have a peculiar situation that seems somewhat like that of those in this thread, but less successful.
I have an HTC Sensation 4G that I purchased unlocked from someone who was previously on Bell. Unfortunately, I'm not on Bell, I'm on Rogers.
I don't seem to be able to get the Bell OTA upgrade to ICS with this phone on Rogers. Yet, from what I can tell, there's no way to simple download the update the old fashioned way.
Am I going to be forever stuck at 2.3, unless I can find someone with a Bell SIM to lend it to me for an hour?

That's the same problem I'm having also. I bought the phone (Bell) but I'm with Telus and when I tried the upgrade it just shuts down and I have to pull the battery to get it going again.
Try turning off your Data and do the update over wireless. It worked for my Bell Sensation and I am with TELUS.

Hi Guys,
I have imported an HTC Desire from the UK and I live in Australia. I am currently useing my Optus 3g sim card and everything is working well. My concern is missing out on the FROYO 2.2 update as I am not sure if Optus will allow it. The main problem here in Australia is that the national carrrier Telstra has a monopoly on the desire for six months, (hence my import) and is a crap carrier. I don`t know if the ota update that comes through Telstra will have been mutilated with some of their software. Will there be a downloadable version available from HTC website? If so, how hard would it be for a novice like me to install it on my phone?
Thank you for your time and consideration of these questions.
Ie Could I buy sim free and put O2 sim in it??
You won't be able to buy simfree from Vodafone, but once it's out at places like Amazon, you will be able too put any SIM card in you want, yes.
It won't be sim locked. they say none of their phones are.
I thought all of Vodafone's devices were locked. Great news if it's unlocked.
I bought my HD2 directly from the Vodafone UK website about 18 months ago and it's unlocked.
But my DHD is locked to t-mobile
Vodafone haven't locked Contract phones for years now. PAYG however...
I ordered mine from Vodafone today, are we expecting this to be a standard version or a Vodafone infected version.
Vodafone rom, with their super fast update schedule- not. Without doubt.
Thanks for reminding me on that one. Im definately waiting till when I return from honeymoon in mid june. If I buy it, definately getting it sim free with maybe a 3 mobile ayce sim. Vodafone lag way behind official updates.

Given the speed it's coming out, I kind of expect a stock ROM.

Having said that mate, Vodafone have an EU release clause with HTC, so when an update goes live in the EU, it goes live in the UK too. Not like other carries. Vodafone got the official GB release before anyone else on the DHD

I'm also betting on them sticking to stock ROM to get the initial batch out as early as possible.
Even if it's a branded ROM I won't mind too much as Vodafone have recently been getting HTC ROM updates out before unbranded updates (as crazy as that sounds) and their bloatware seems to be reduced as of late too.

The only 'bloatware' my original Vodafone HTC Magic had was a Vodafone Live! app, which only ran if you wanted to use it.

If my new Sensation arrives with no bloatware, I will make an effort to thank them on the Vodafone eforum. I like to let them know I appreciate it

Given how fast we are getting them, I bet they will just be direct from HTC to the customers! I hope so at least!
Re: rom updates. Can only go off when hd2 got released. We had to wait a fair bit for updates. Cant comment on other handsets. Sorry

Silly question perhaps, but even if the vodafone handset is unlocked, will we still have to wait for vodafone to release updates or will we get them straight from HTC?

Pretty sure if this is the case then the updates will come straight from HTC, but I'm no expert.

With the Desire, it had to come from Vodafone unless you debrand it and flash a WWE RUU via Goldcard. The initial batch were unbranded though. There was much noise made when Vodafone delayed the Froyo update and initially released firmware which had a branded splash screen and various other useless bits and pieces (eg links to dating services, Vodafone Live, etc etc). It was then retracted and an unbranded Froyo was subsequently released. This whole fiasco was even reported on TechRadar UK
I think Vodafone pay monthly phones are all unlocked. It says so on their website. If I remember correctly, their phones did used to be locked but you could request an unlock code once your contract was up (or I think pay a small fee). The only exception was the Blackberry Storm, but let's not reopen old wounds I think I threw mine hard into a brick wall
Any word on if Jelly Bean is still on coarse to be released later this month?
Or had it been delayed again...

According to mobilesyrup, "early February" now. Looks like it isn't too far away.

I got my Fido RAZR HD from Canada yesterday - presumably Fido have the same update schedule as Rogers?
Still waiting for a SIM unlock code at the moment, so I can't even use it yet, booo

I'll believe it when it's released. I was told "Late November" when I bought my Razr HD. Slipped nearly 3 months already. I'm expecting March, honestly. I think there's something in Rogers bloatware that isn't transitioning to JB well, and that's the holdup. No other good reason for it to take this long, since other XT925 have JB since Dec.
Hah, yeah you may be right about the bloatware it should be exactly the same as the international version (e.g. Euro models got JB late November), but with slightly different radio firmware...
It is pretty strange and frustrating rolling back from a two year old Nexus S on 4.1.2 to a brand new RHD on 4.0.4!
I know the feeling. My last phone was a Motorola Defy on CMX 4.1.2, and that phone started on Eclair.
Mods, this thread should be moved the Q&A since it isn't development related.
Next, about Rogers; I don't believe that it's their bloatware. I think they have resource problems with carrier testing. All of the updates I've seen issued from Rogers Motorola devices have had build dates months behind then when it was actually released. I wouldn't be suprised if the Rogers JB 4.1 build is dated October 2012. I think Rogers should setup some kind of early testing program for people who want updates on their phones faster, which would allow the user population to do the testing for them. I'm an IT guy and expect some problems with my technology, if I can help the company sort out bugs faster than they can find them I think we would all be a lot happier.
FYI, the Fido and Rogers firmware are the same build. When you put in a Fido SIM card, it removes the Rogers bloat and installs the Fido bloat.
Finally, until anybody has actually used a Verizon branded Motorola device, please don't talk about "bloatware" like it's so bad... We have like 8 apps that we can freeze, you should see what's on some of those VZW phones...
Haha, ok agreed on the Verizon bloatware... let's maybe just call it fluffware or something
Interestingly, when I got my Fido device, I put my T-Mo UK SIM in straight away and it did not prompt me to install crap at startup (i.e. with this).
So afaics, there is no fluffware on my phone!
Sad and annoying to hear about Rogers' testing bottleneck, but one has to wonder why they need to test so extensively anyway (vs. Euro operators for example). I mean, even Verizon beat them to the punch this time, and they have a horrendous rep for delaying firmware updates!

Hi Guys,
I tried searching the web for this but just couldn't find a concrete answer.
Do carrier related phones still depend on the carrier for OTA updates when unlocked or they receive timely updates directly from the manufacturer?
I am buying an Unlocked T mobile One S here in India obviously because of the superior S4 processor. I read in the forums that the T Mobile Jelly Bean update really messes up the battery life. Hence I was wondering if even I would have the same problem.
So my question is, will my phone in India also get the T Mobile update or the HTC one. Also in the future, would it be receiving all OTA updates from HTC?

No
T-Mobile does not send the file themselves. Your CID, which is probably T-MOB010, is used to decide whether to give you world-wide, unbranded updates or something else. Yours will get the update from T-Mobile, but it will be released from HTC's servers
If you mean a SIM unlocked T-Mobile HTC One S, then yes, it will still receive OTA updates. Mine is SIM unlocked and still got the JB update.
Yes, would the unlocked T Mobile HTC one S have to wait for T Mobile JB update as per United States or since I am using it on Vodafone and in India, it would get the JB update as and when any other HTC One S in India gets it?
Glad if you could help.
Thanks.

Yes you have to wait as T-Mobile modify ota update and test again over there network then release it
It lags 2-3 months
I purchased my s4 HTC One S black
2 month ago from USA but not T-Mobile version it is factory unlocked European version
My opinion try more & you will find same as mine don't buy T-Mobile version when you update them they can be lock again 3g net frequency problem also there
From HTC One S
I have an HTC One m8 verizon but I'm currently using it overseas in a gsm/global area. Since the verizon software update section says that I can only update using cdma, I can't update the phone at all.
What are my options in order to update the firmware?
And if there is no way, what are my options to at least keep up with the newer android firmware? Sorry if this is a common question but I've just jumped onto android from an iphone 4s and everything is still alien to me.
