Why are text messages that are shorter than 160 characters split up on the ATT One X? They come in as more than one message from ATT and non-ATT users.
screenshot?
Excuse the poor wording. For example I received the following message like this:
Part 1: "I dont know anywhere else to find tix. Maybe try ticketmase"
Part 2: "r or ebay but thats about it. I also talked to a friend who may b"
Part 3: "e interested in coming with us on the trip"
None of those segments are over 160 characters and each came in separately.
thats very odd, are you using the stock message app? try looking over your settings
Is the person sending those accidentally hitting enter prematurely? lol
Is that happening all the time?
No issue with the stock messaging app and stock ROM (rooted).
BTW, did you upgrade from the Tilt to the One X? If so, that is one helluva leap!
You know what, I was using a Lumia 800 before getting my HOX. The broken text messages haven't actually happened on my HOX yet but I was getting that on my Lumia 800 on AT&T service. Is it an AT&T thing? I hope not, I'm paying over $100/month, that's pretty crappy!
Same thing happening to me. Happened on the Note also when I had it.
I think it's caused by the sender. I've had it happen before, but only with specific people. They generally have had older dumbphones.

It depends entirely on how the carrier parses each message, and from what phone. Because older phones only had support for up to 160 characters per message, displaying more was impossible as dictated by the phone itself. At least with AT&T, 99% of the time for me messages are always split into parts, receiving and sending. This is to ensure compatibility with older phones, but mostly so if you're on a limited text plan the carrier can bill you for multiple separate texts rather than just one.
It's a GSM vs. CDMA thing. Most likely the person who is sending you those messages is on a CDMA carrier (ex: Verizon) and CDMA has a 160 character limit on SMS messages. GSM carriers can send much longer SMS messages so it's not a problem but both the sender and receiver must be using a GSM network.

Yeah, I don't think it is the HOX. Because most of my friends have iphones, hell i don't even know anyone with a feature phone anymore. When I get the broken up message it is coming from people with iphones! So my conclusion is that it is either AT&T and so it happens to everyone or it is the iphone but I doubt it is the HOX because I get broken up messages even on my Lumia.
This has been happening to me lately when my girlfriend sends me long text messages. They get broken up and all out of order. I am using a Galaxy S3 on at&t and she has a Galaxy S5 on verizon. We are both running Android 4.4.2-kitkat. My phone is rooted, hers is not.

If you integrate your sprint number to Google voice and then terminate you contract do you keep your number? If not, what if you wait and just leave after contract?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G
Bump... anyone?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G
All integration is doing is replacing the standard vm with gv vm. That is if you're talking about sprint and gv. I don't know for a fact but that sounds logical. If you go to another carrier, and want to keep your phone number from original carrier, you have to go to the new carrier and tell them you want your old number on their service. Once they do what needs to be done, your service with the original company will be shut off. You do not need to do anything to make this happen with the original company. The original company will send you a final bill and you pay it. The porting process just takes a few minutes to go through and it's done. Your old number is on your new service.
Integration does a bit more than just replace VM. You're able to SMS from the GV site, app, chrome extension etc as well as receive calls from your sprint number on gmail.
Yep... I ported my number, but kept my default SMS app on my phone, but can still use GV on the web to text. So I can still get my MMS without hassle of forwarding to my email. Also I was under the impression that since its ported that you can't lose your number since its on google and not to the carrier. Myth? Thought I heard that on TWIT AAA. So even if you change carriers you could just set up your google voice no matter what your new phone number is since you can use your old one in its place. Make sense?

That would be correct

Well I understand the benefits of porting the number to GV but my question was is it any different than Sprint integration? Is it permanently ported or do I loose it if I break the contract and have to port that number before I change carriers?
There could be a difference.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G
I would call Sprint and ask them. Remember that you can receive SMS and MMS through the native app and still have your number integrated is a feature that someone "not" on Sprint has the ability to do.
Also you have 90 days to try your number integrated before you lose your old google voice number. So you can always go back.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G
Yeah. I can definitely ask sprint but chances are I'll get some moron who doesn't know anything or will lie to me just to get me off the phone.
I was hoping I can get someone here who has done it and can confirm.

Hoping someone has a solution to my scenario.
Right now, I have a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon. I use my Verizon number for all calls and SMS. I'm test driving my Nexus 5 on GoPhone (AT&T) until my Verizon plan is up (at which point, I'll either stick with GoPhone if I like it, or find something else).
Is there a way for me right now to get my Verizon number's SMS to show up on my Nexus 5? Is there any app, etc.? I don't want to fart around with porting my Verizon number to Google Voice right now - I will do that when my contract is up, and that will be my solution. But I need a solution for until that point.
If there is no way to do this, that's okay. Thanks for reading. (For calls, I'm just going to forward my Verizon number to my AT&T number through Verizon's webpage).

Thank you for the suggestion. When I downloaded it on my Nexus 5, it told me "Integrated messages is only available for Verizon customers," so I think it's not gonna work. I think I'm just SOL until I port my Verizon number to Google Voice.

I have seen those. I'll probably set one of those up. I was really hoping for an app that would allow me to receive SMS on my Verizon phone, and send as my Verizon number from my Nexus 5. Guess we're not there yet, without the Google Voice port. Again, thanks for your responses!

Google voice is great. Just do it.
Only issue is you can't currently receive MMS through it.
I use GV + straight talk prepaid
It's cool too because you will be able to keep your old number and receive all your calls to it too

Hey guys I was just reviewing my outgoing text messages and saw an out going message to this following
TO: 1505
Message:
DCB_ASSOCIATION: <appears to be an md5 checksum>
I am on TMOBILE USA
I did a google search and it looks like another n5 user, on tmobile, posted this the other day as well.
I had my buddy, who is on his n4 look and he did not see this.
I am ASSUMING this is calling back to TMOBILE for possibly a phone description? I am not sure though.
Anyone else?

I got this today right after I sweet up carrier billing in the play store. Also on T-Mobile and Nexus 5.
This just happened on my Nexus 4 with 4.4 from the Google factory image. I'm on T-Mobile and used carrier billing to buy a app too.
Carrier billing verification - on Sprint. It's not just a T-mobile thing.
Confirmed Google Play Store Verification

So I was able to confirm that this is a text message sent via your Carrier to confirm that you would like to charge an App (or Play Service) to your Phone Bill.

I just couldn't stop thinking about it. Especially because I left this afternoon. It's now late night and everybody is still talking about the same thing.
I got it on a t mobile phone after downloading and installing modded play store after trying a purchase using t mobile billing. The sale failed, but I still got the message. I know lp isn't a great subject to bring up here, but the purpose of this isn't to steal software, it's to identify a problem.
Yes, I also have T-Mobile and saw that on my phone. Seems the msg was sent while I was asleep.
Yes

I got this out going text on my galaxy s3 note.
Does any one know wat it means or why my phone is auto texting by itself?
Did you set up a payment method on Google Play with your mobile operator?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I just looked this up as I had the same outgoing text. It is a SMS sent to your carrier when you set up and possibly every time you make a carrier billing purchase. Nothing to be scared of.
Posted with the official XDA Developers app for Android.
My phone sent an sms to 9210 that read: DCB_ASSOCIATION: followed by 24 random upper and lower case letters. This was right after I authorized google play to bill my carrier for purchases. It was an automated text to Sprint confirming carrier billing authorization.
Confirming that I got this from Google play store, going to AT&T, but for a 0$ item. Really don't understand why i have to provide it for a 0$ eBook. But...meh... It's not malicious afaik.
I just got this tex an i think its a phone tap or phone tracking ive sent simaler things to people in the parst
It's a message from T-Mobile when they get a request from Google play to add T-Mobile as a billing option. The first part "DCB_ASSOCIATION:" tells you that it was to make an association with your phone account.
Its because you have T-Mobile and you used your T-Mobile account as a payment option. They text your phone to verify...Its just a dcm from T-Mobile...the code received possibly means if it were excepted(regular account).. Or didn't (prepaid..pay as you go)
Okay so about maybe half a year ago at best maybe a tad longer people calling me and my family could get through at random times. Sometimes the calls would go through other times the calls would go straight to voice mail or it would act like it's ringing on the other end but never does. Verizon said it was the phones i had the note 2 and they had the s3's so they sent us out 2 s4's and a note 3 and problem still persists. What i want to know is are we the only ones having this problem or are there more verizon users like us who have this issue? it doesn't matter if the person calling is on us cellular at&t or sprint or using a landline. texts come through fine.

I am having the same problem. I had it with my last phone, htc rezound, and am getting it with my new phone the htc one m8. Part of the reason i sprung for a new phone (at off contract prices!) was to resolve this issue which it has not. Doing some research no one seems to be able to get any answers, verizon just mostly wants to reset peoples phones or send out new ones. I have read some people say that this has to do with corrupt contacts associated with your google account, but with any average amount of contacts thats a pain in the ass to try and delete and re-add everyone. Currently I am atleast trying to delete and re-add my few main contacts that call frequently and see if that changes anything.

He switched his APN and I then got them but he lost LTE. Anyone have any ideas how he would be able to text me and keep his LTE? We are baffled.

yea sounds like a bad one but if he can reach others and not you have you tried rebooting your phone as well just to troubleshoot. I would say download hangouts on your phone if you need to get in contact with him.
I remember when I had an iPhone 18months back trying to send messages to other iPhone users was a problem as there phone was still trying to send I messages and expecting I messages back. I put my sim back in iPhone and turned I messages off and it then worked
