Hey guys,
I'm new to the forums. I have a Samsung Omnia W w/ v.8107.79. My question is if i apply for a Student developer account can i sideload any 3 apps from xda to my phone?
ALSO can i get custom accent colors on student unlocked device? Or do i need a interop unlock?
Does interop unlock void the warranty? Whats the risk involved in the process?
Thanks in advance,
Kotai.
Yes you can sideload any 3 apps as long as those apps dont need interop-unlock. Accent changing apps need interop-unlock so you won't be able to sideload them. I don't know about warranty and the risks involved.
Interop unlock and full unlock are relatively save. However, malicious apps (not from the marketplace!) can do much more but as long as you stick to xda and frequently used threads (the big ones) your save.
But you should assume that it does indeed void your warranty!

You can sideload 3 apps that DOES NOT require interop unlock.
It is sure, a "reset to factory settings" reverse these changes.. there's no risk in interop unlocking (full unlock is another thing).
Remember that Interop enabled apps can virtually access the full operating system...
With Student unlocked phone, You can able to side-load 3 apps. But remember you cannot side-load apps which require interop/full unlock.
Interop unlock voids your Warranty BUT you can it can be reverted by hard resetting your device.

There is no mention of it on chevronwp7, but is it true that after unlocked, only 10 apps/xaps can be sideloaded?
If so, is there a method to increase this number?
If it's a dumb question, sorry. I'm not really that knowledgeable.
yes / depends
The Chevron Unlock does the same as the normal Developer Unlock which allowes you to sideload 10 applications. You can sideload more apps if you are interop unlocked.
So i do the chevron unlock, and then interop after that, and i'll be able to sideload more than 10? I was planing to do interop anyway.
Again, sorry if dumb, but i DO need chevron/developer unlock to do interop?
Yeah being chevron unlocked first is a requirement in most situations ...if not all . But yeah interop gets you unlimited.

Thanks, i consider the matter closed.
Okay, I still haven't Chevron Unlocked and wanted to know if we have to do a hard reset BEFORE unlocking? Does the phone get reset when unlocking? Or does it remain as it was except for the fact that its now unlocked?
Also can the sideloading limit be removed? I have read several posts on removing the sideload limit but just wanted to know if anyone has actually done that themselves? And do we need a TOM XAP INSTALLER type program to install apps such as those which still have the DRM?
Thanks guys,
Abbz
No , you dont have to reset at all to be Chevron Unlocked . Its super painless . Phone remains as it was , but unlocked .
Sideload limit can be removed , but it involves going a step further and Interop Unlocking the device . Chevron Unlock is still required for that . Interop Unlock is available on MOST devices , but not all . So that depends .
You dont NEED Toms XAP Installer or anything , but for convenience , I use Phone7Deployer . I like being able to simply double click a xap file to install it .
Alrighty
Thanks a lot bro,
Good to know, thanks.
Additional question. Once it is developer unlocked, and the phone stays in its current condition, then one might want to backup the phone apps.
Is it possible to sideways retrieve xaps from the device if Marketplace apps were installed on the device?
You mean the XAPs and the app data stored n the phone? LIke the data about your game scores?
I doubt thats possible although i would like to do that myself.
And another question: I may sell my phone in the future, so i'll have to provide the buyer with the Chevron unlock code. Should i make a new Live account for buying the unlock code? because i dont want the buyer accesing my private email if i give him access to it for unlocking purposes
Thanks, Abbz
So most of us are looking to unlock our cellphones, root for android, interop, windowsbreak for windows phone...
I have a HTC Mozart, what's next after interop unlock? What is the benefit and where do I get applications, what can I do after interop....
Most of us looks for ways to unlock, jailbreak root our devices but what's next?

I made interop-unlock just to remove limit for unsigned apps. Some apps I wrote just for myself and it was annoying that I can't have them all at once on my device
Have HTC Trophy
OS 7.10.81.07.79
Bootloader 5.12.2250.1
i'm not a programer, so there are many things that i don't understand.
i just need to have installing [xap] feature..
Any suggestion HowTo?
i'll be very thankful!!
For HTC, the only current option is to get an AppHub account (free to students, $99/year otherwise). Also, your bootloader version indicates that you've installed an update that will prevent your phone from being "interop-unlocked" so high-privilege XAPs won't be available until you downgrade your phone's firmware.
...you could find some help in this thread , but since you say that you don't understand too much you may better leave it. Otherwise you might break your phone.
You might also wait for Microsoft to enable Chevron unlock tokens again - which I don't think is very realistic: https://labs.chevronwp7.com
Unlocking your phone via chevron is very simple and doesn't need any know-how, but it won't (just like with the developer account) allow you to use every .XAP application.
I have bought an used, interop unlocked Samsung Omnia W for development, as I refuse to spend 99 EUR/year to run the software I code on my devices.
As I don't know how the device has been unlocked or what other modifications have been made (in particular if trojans/keyloggers have been installed - which is why so far I haven't entered any personal information in the device), I'd be interested in knowing:
1. How to wipe and flash the device to stock condition
2. How to perform the unlock procedure myself
Lately, the phone has started notifying me of the availability of the Tango update, and I am wondering whether:
1. It is safe to do so, with an unlocked device, or if I risk bricking
2. Upgrading will disable the interop unlock and, in that case, whether I'd be able to unlock again.
