dang 224 views and not ONE response???? WTF?
Well you responded.
I've always used drop box to move apks from laptop to phone, then ESfileExplorer to drop the apk into the app folder.
Why do you want to use side load wonder machine? I thought the whole point of it was to bypass AT&T's sideloading restrictions. Why not move the .apk to your sd card then install from your phone?
Or even easier, email it to yourself.
I use Android Commander very useful it will also let you change files
If you decide to try it out on first start right click Run as Admin then click on Program/Settings then click on associate apk's then all you have to do is click on the APK and it will install . I love this program and its free
Put the apk on your SD card. And use any file manager to open it. You must have "unknown sources" checked in settings.
On gb: settings/applications/ check "unknown sources"
On ICS: settings/security/ *scroll down* check "unknown sources"
Once that is checked you can use any file manager from the market, eg. File expert, x plore, astro, Linda manager, es file manager, ect.
And just go to the apk and open it and it will install it. No computer necessary! You only needed to use a computer when att blocked installing third party apps, but they stopped doing that after the atrix.
I hope this helped you

I use Es file explorer. Free, Has access to root (must be enabled in settings), can connect to window shares, ftp,... To copy files over wifi. Any large files or when I'm in a hurry I just use USB.

Ok so 2day I checked the maket I needed a file manager, I got 1 call Linda , well it has a plugin that allows you to download any file from the default browser which is cool. Well was wondering if there is anyway someone could take that plugiin and just add it to the default broswer because I kinda don't lke the file manager.
*update*
There's is an app in the market called "Download Crutch" it has no gui or icon just allows you to download files
The way that the plugin works is that it tells the browser that Linda FileManager will be able to handle the file (whether it can or not). The only way so far to make the browser able to download a filetype (without modifying the browser's source) is to use this method.
You're probably going to have to download an app to do this anyways, so you might as well just stick with the Linda File Manager.
Does anyone have the browser's source? and i thought thats how it worked so if we are correct, then that means that the browser checks for an app to support the file. So if i downloaded the zip program then i would be able to download zip files right?
*edited*
ok try that with unzip and it didnt work so im guessing some programs wont have the file extension set in the os like linda does
Wow i had no idea linda file manager did that, thats good to hear. ive been using astro all this time. Thanks for the tip!
It says replace appilication but I've never installed this app. It wont let me uninstall it from setttings. When I goto update the app it says, installation unsuccessful, package file was not signed correctly.
Is this a possbile error due to JF 1.41 or would it be a error due to a custom theme from MacDroid 2.2?

yeah its kind of a tug of war between Astro (aka Bender) and Linda File Manager (aka Android file manager) Personally i think astro has the upper hand because it has the selection mode, application manager, and can make shortcuts to any file on the home screen. But now linda has the new download plugin...
i wish they would just get together and make one "all powerful file browser"

Can someone give me the older semcime from 026? I already asked for it, but I got some non-installable HtcIME crap
Thanks in advance

Hey, umm I managed to delete this from my phone, but this version won't install. Does it have to be specific to the firmware?

you may need to enable "Unknown Sources" to be able to install apps that are not from the market. Make sure you have a file browser (EStrongs File Manager is good and on the market), copy the apk file to your SD card using a PC. open EStrongs and browse to the location. install.
Oh, it doesn't work :'(
SemcIME is already in the system
I need the old default keyboard back, or a very similiar. Are there any?
I have an AT&T Tab and thus need to periodically enable USB debugging to use the Side Load Wondermachine app. Stinks navigating thru the menus to enable / disable. I've searched the market but can't seem to find a widget that would handle toggling this as needed. Anyone know of one out there?
Not sure why you wouldn't just leave debugging enabled (you can always mount usb via the notification bar), but you can create a shortcut to the Development settings page using LauncherPro (the activity is under Settings->Development).
Thank you! I actually did not know you can have it selected all the time. I just tried it and it worked! I was use to have it unselected such that it would prompt me for either mass storage, Kies, or media. Since I only use it for Mass storage it works fine. Thanks again!
Why not just allow from market? Sure the options not there, but if you edit the settings.db from /dbdata/databases/provider-settings you can enable install_from_non_market.
It's what I did.

Hmm? Where exactly do you find this file? I searched via Astro File Explorer on the whole Tab and did not find this file. Would love to enable this option. Please provide additional details? Is yours also an AT&T tab? Can you provide a copy of the file?

Sorry, that wasn't the exact name - I was just guesstimating. I have the AT&T Tab.
The actual path is /dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.settings/setti
ngs.db
I'm attaching the modified file. Just replace the file that's already specified in the path above with the one I'm attaching in the zip.

Ok, bear with me as I am a noob, but I am still not seeing it. See my attached screenshot. I am not seeing anything in the dbdata folder. I searched for com.android.provider.settings and the only item that comes back happens to be in my Titanium backup directory. Not sure why there and not in a folder itself. Searching for settings.db results with nothing.
Ok, never mind I figured it out. Looks like I needed a Root Explorer app. I thought Astro or ES File Explorer would show me everything but I was wrong. Downloaded a root explorer app and now I can see the file. Will backup and replace mine and see how it goes.
Thanks
Update: Excellent this works! I actually didn't use your file as I was concerned there may be other setting that were different. I was comparing the changes and noticed that my settings file already had the change you mentioned. I remember doing this via SuperOneClick root tool; however never bothered to try it. Duh! Well it works. This now in combination with dropbox is excellent. I can simply copy the file to my dropbox folder, select and install it on the tab. Works Awesome! Thanks for mentioning this to me; probably would have never thought to try it on my own. Thanks again.

What file manager are you using? Try ES File explorer from the Market.
P.S. : Are you using a file manager at all?? Or are you looking for the transferred apks in the app drawer? Trust me, i know a dude who was doing exactly that!!!

You're right mate, but there is no reason he shouldn't be able to see apk files transferred to the sd card.
I believe that is a more fundamental thing that should be taken care of, rather than looking for a workaround to install apps. Don't you agree?

See?
I had a hunch you weren't...
It's a very common mistake made by first time smartphone users. So don't worry about it. And BTW, read the post above about allowing non-market apk installs, without which you won't be able to install these apps from sd card.
Happy app-ing!!
I'm a HTC Desire S owner. I've problem installing APK files. It shows "There is a problem parsing the package" when trying to install apk files in ES File Explorer. It only happens when the apk files are in SDcard. It don't happen when install apk files which are located in my PC thru WiFi with ES File Explorer. It don't work with ASTRO file manager either. But I can install with AndExplorer and can install from PC (with DroidExplorer). I mostly use ES file manager and wanna install with it. I'm currently using latest version of ES file explorer. I've already checked "Allow installation of non-market apps" in setting. It did not happen with Stock ROM. Happened while using Saga3D, I don't know what I accidently did. I change to new rom 'Virtuous Quattro (ICS) and it still occur. Now I'm on Hyperion and it is still happening. Please help me.

I cannot tell you the reason for this issue, but it's well known. just download the apk on your Pc and put on Sd card then.
And Sometimes you are downloading an corrupted apk, simply download the app somewhere else.
Sent by my fingers to your head.
They say this error is likely attributed to:
1) Some strange apk not fit for the device. so, try downloading compatible apk.
2) Problems with Dalvik cache. try wiping cache & dalvik cache.
The reason for this is that the app is not downloaded completely. The download may have been interrupted on your phone due to some reason. On PC, the apps are downloaded uninterrupted, so no parsing error.

Thanks. Good to know

This occurs in case of corrupted downloads, where the file is shown as completely downloaded but actually some bits are lost while downloading. Very common when the downloading is done on the phone itself. Try downloading via PC and then transfer the apk to the sd card and you should be fine. I came across this when downloading an apk from the xda site itself (in the app development forum i think) and everytime i tried downloading on the phone, i got a parsing error... but as soon as i downloaded on PC and transferred it to phone, it installed right away!
I'm sure APK file is not corrupt. I can install with AndExplorer but not with ES File Explorer. I reinstalled ES File Explorer, but still not working.

Well then i guess you can say goodbye to ES File Explorer and stick to AndExplorer if this solves your problem!
Whatever works for you man! At least you found a workaround...I used to go crazy when i got these parsing errors!!!
Or try a different memory card. I have a Kingston micro-SD which gave me sleepless night awhile.
apk Problem
Have tried to check your Android Minimum SDK Version you have at your Program ??
Check this file and check your device
<uses-sdk
android:minSdkVersion="19"
android:targetSdkVersion="20" />
I have faced this problem with old versions , and resolved it by changing the appropriate minSdkVersion

APK installation Astro File Manager issue
For me, the APK installer in Astro File Manager doesn't work atm.
I see a brief scanning popup window but then it disappears.
Until they fix it, it's best to avoid launching APKs from Astro File manager.
If you think your APKs installs are using Astro File manager as the default app, you need to clear it.
On a Samsung Galaxy S7, I had to
1. Settings > Applications > Application manager
2. More (Reset app preferences)
3. If you have Samsung Kids Mode installed, you need to run and reconfigure it (if you don't you'll get annoying popups because Kids Mode app is now unstable until you reconfigure it)
4. Return to ES File Explorer and launch the APK (if there are still issues, continue to step 5)
5. Go back to Application Manager (i.e. repeat step 1)
6. More (drop down menu on top right) > Show system apps
7. Scroll down and locate Package Installer
8. Set as default
9. Try again

I had the same problem it was related to Package installer permissions. Gave the storage permission to package installer it worked. Mine was LG G3 with CM13 by the way.
