Ok so 2day I checked the maket I needed a file manager, I got 1 call Linda , well it has a plugin that allows you to download any file from the default browser which is cool. Well was wondering if there is anyway someone could take that plugiin and just add it to the default broswer because I kinda don't lke the file manager.
*update*
There's is an app in the market called "Download Crutch" it has no gui or icon just allows you to download files
The way that the plugin works is that it tells the browser that Linda FileManager will be able to handle the file (whether it can or not). The only way so far to make the browser able to download a filetype (without modifying the browser's source) is to use this method.
You're probably going to have to download an app to do this anyways, so you might as well just stick with the Linda File Manager.
Does anyone have the browser's source? and i thought thats how it worked so if we are correct, then that means that the browser checks for an app to support the file. So if i downloaded the zip program then i would be able to download zip files right?
*edited*
ok try that with unzip and it didnt work so im guessing some programs wont have the file extension set in the os like linda does
Wow i had no idea linda file manager did that, thats good to hear. ive been using astro all this time. Thanks for the tip!
It says replace appilication but I've never installed this app. It wont let me uninstall it from setttings. When I goto update the app it says, installation unsuccessful, package file was not signed correctly.
Is this a possbile error due to JF 1.41 or would it be a error due to a custom theme from MacDroid 2.2?

yeah its kind of a tug of war between Astro (aka Bender) and Linda File Manager (aka Android file manager) Personally i think astro has the upper hand because it has the selection mode, application manager, and can make shortcuts to any file on the home screen. But now linda has the new download plugin...
i wish they would just get together and make one "all powerful file browser"

Hulu Tips
The trick for getting Hulu working is to do these things:
1) Use Either Dolphin Browser or SkyFire
2) In the browser, Settings...set User Agent to "Desktop"
3) In Advanced Settings set Plugins to "Always On"(Default is "on demand"))
4) Install either the Adobe flash player hacked apk or hexedit the libflashplayer.so file yourself. I had issues using the hacked apk, I just hexedited my own on the PC and moved it over. Instruction and hacked apk in first post of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=856318&highlight=hulu
5) Install AdFree from the marketplace
6) Delete/Rename the Host file in /system/etc (TNT Lite Builds)
7) Start AdFree, it will want to create the Host file. If it exists when you run it, it will hang and not complete the installation.
8) When AdFree comes up there is an option to "Revert" click this button to allow ads, Hulu needs this to work.
9) Reboot to clear the host cache.
10) Turn back on AdFree Host file restrictions if you like after you're done with the Hulu Goodness! Enjoy!
rooted?
Is there anything special that needs to be done in order to delete "system/etc/hosts" file? I am running TNT lite 2.4 with Cwm, and/\ have had superuser capabilities for everything else, I'm assuming it's not root related?
I did it - I can see the video but when clicked after waiting for a while to run I'm getting the "unfortunately Hulu is not supported on your platform...
Well it works, sort of. It played real nice until it reached a commercial. Then it paused for a few seconds and Dolphin crashed. Tried again and had no sound. Re-booted, tried again and it worked again. Haven't watched long enough to see if it crashes at the commercials again.
Full screen sort of worked. Had to disable the popup blocker in Dolphin. Then it played for a few seconds until the video froze. Still had sound, but frozen video.
I wish there was something not as touchy as flash too...
Update.. Made it past the commercials this time. Seems pretty touchy but it works...
thaigai - you can use root explorer to delete the hosts file. All the firmware distros get you to root. You will need root in order to access the /system/etc and the /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib directories.
jcarlospr - Unfortunately.... message is usually caused by either the User Agent is not set to "Desktop" or your libflashplayer.so is not set correctly.
Download this file, unzip it, and use Root Explorer to copy it into the /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib directory
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=K4C7N34D
You can use this with both the Folio 100 Adobe Flash apk and the GLES Optimized Flash apk. The GLES Optimized is linked in Roebeet's TNT Lite Thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842004
Copy the libflashplayer.so file after installing the Adobe Flash Player apk.

That doesn't sound right. Try uninstalling your flash player and reinstalling with the new GLES optimized Flash apk, then copy the libflashplayer.so file. Like I mentioned I had issues with the hacked apk.

Ok, This is what I did
1. Re-downloaded Adobe Flash Player 10.1.12.1 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842004
2. Went to settings/Applications/downloaded applications and uninstall the Adobe Flash Palyer 10.1
3. Using ES File Explorer I put the adobe flash player 10.1.120.1.apk
4. Went to the data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/ I renamed the libflashplayer.so that I got from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=K4C7N34D
5. Using the app App Installer I install the apk from step 3
6. Turn off the table after reboot I went back to the data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/ and rename back the file.
7. Went to hulu using skyfire (first, I verified that the option selected by default is desktop).
8. I selected a video from hulu and after 30 seconds I got the unsupported message.
Something else, I created data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/ directory because it was not there.
I am using TnT Lite V2.2.0

I don't see where you are doing the adfree part. I got it to work using the Flash apk that was already modded without having to play with the lib file.
My bad - for some reason is not letting me to delete the host file or even rename it and I don't have anything else open - I tried right after turning on the tablet

Are you trying to delete the host file with something like androot, or root explorer? The folder has to be set to read/write or it won't let you change it.

The hack original came form those that discovered it on the Nexus One Phones(rcgabriel thx for correction). It just edits what Adobe Flash Reports to the website the client using it, in this case it reports WIN instead of AND. So, I believe it would work for all mobile devices as long as they use a libflashplayer.so file as well. You might want to hexedit your particular libflashplayer.so file since it may be different from the one posted here. This apk is specific to the tegra2 devices.

Also make sure your firewall is not doing some kind of ad blocking either. Some firewalls like Untangle have a ad blocker or if you use OpenDNS, you might have problems also if you have the restrictions to block the ad sites. Anything that blocks ads might prevent hulu from showing you the video.
Strangely enough, I needed to delete the host in order to have the AdFree even get to the point where it gives me the option to "revert" or load the updated hosts file. I'm not sure if the hosts file itself was blocking things, or the hosts file had some permissions preventing AdFree from modifying it. Either way, using Root Explorer after making sure the directory is R/W and not R/O is probably the easiest route for deleting this file.

Minor historical correction - the hack originally came from the Nexus One forums. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687842&page=3
Fancast works great without all the BS, hulu is a waste of time.
When ever i try to download .apk files through the stock android browser (tried on a rooted evo and rooted charge) it tells me download is unsuccessful and wont let me download the file Is this an android limitation or is there a work around for this? (Besides using another browser )
I think you need a file viewer, try downloading es file explorer first, then redownload the file.

You can download "download all files" (or something like that) from the android market...it should allow you to download...all...files from the browser

+1. I installed 'Download All Files' so that I could get attachments out of the Gmail app.
Other option is using Astro file manager. Under preferences there's a check box for enabling browser downloads.
I am a noob but two things I kind of figured out after a while that were not intuitively obvious so I thought I would post them here to help any other noobs.
First, when you download a file off of XDA-Developers.com, it might be in .RAR format. RAR is a compressed file much like a .ZIP but you will need a special program to extract it. I downloaded a freeware program called Free RAR Extract Frog to my PC to do that and it works well.
Second, when you load an .APK file from XDA onto your G-Tab, it probably didn't come from the Market because it has been modified, so you will need to have an App to install it. I got Easy Installer off the Market for free and it works.
Before you use it, you will need to go into your Settings\Applications and change the permissions to allow installation of non-Market Apps. Load the .APK file into the root folder and when you start Easy Installer, it will find it and it will ask you if you want to install it. Click yes.
Good to hear you are getting past the obstacles
I would also recommend 7-zip for RAR extraction.
As for apk installations, an apk installer app will do just fine, but a simple file manager will work as well. All you need to do is open the apk and select "package installer" if prompted.
I agree, a file manager is all thats needed, much better. Download astro or root explorer
I'm a HTC Desire S owner. I've problem installing APK files. It shows "There is a problem parsing the package" when trying to install apk files in ES File Explorer. It only happens when the apk files are in SDcard. It don't happen when install apk files which are located in my PC thru WiFi with ES File Explorer. It don't work with ASTRO file manager either. But I can install with AndExplorer and can install from PC (with DroidExplorer). I mostly use ES file manager and wanna install with it. I'm currently using latest version of ES file explorer. I've already checked "Allow installation of non-market apps" in setting. It did not happen with Stock ROM. Happened while using Saga3D, I don't know what I accidently did. I change to new rom 'Virtuous Quattro (ICS) and it still occur. Now I'm on Hyperion and it is still happening. Please help me.

I cannot tell you the reason for this issue, but it's well known. just download the apk on your Pc and put on Sd card then.
And Sometimes you are downloading an corrupted apk, simply download the app somewhere else.
Sent by my fingers to your head.
They say this error is likely attributed to:
1) Some strange apk not fit for the device. so, try downloading compatible apk.
2) Problems with Dalvik cache. try wiping cache & dalvik cache.
The reason for this is that the app is not downloaded completely. The download may have been interrupted on your phone due to some reason. On PC, the apps are downloaded uninterrupted, so no parsing error.

Thanks. Good to know

This occurs in case of corrupted downloads, where the file is shown as completely downloaded but actually some bits are lost while downloading. Very common when the downloading is done on the phone itself. Try downloading via PC and then transfer the apk to the sd card and you should be fine. I came across this when downloading an apk from the xda site itself (in the app development forum i think) and everytime i tried downloading on the phone, i got a parsing error... but as soon as i downloaded on PC and transferred it to phone, it installed right away!
I'm sure APK file is not corrupt. I can install with AndExplorer but not with ES File Explorer. I reinstalled ES File Explorer, but still not working.

Well then i guess you can say goodbye to ES File Explorer and stick to AndExplorer if this solves your problem!
Whatever works for you man! At least you found a workaround...I used to go crazy when i got these parsing errors!!!

apk Problem
Have tried to check your Android Minimum SDK Version you have at your Program ??
Check this file and check your device
<uses-sdk
android:minSdkVersion="19"
android:targetSdkVersion="20" />
I have faced this problem with old versions , and resolved it by changing the appropriate minSdkVersion

APK installation Astro File Manager issue
For me, the APK installer in Astro File Manager doesn't work atm.
I see a brief scanning popup window but then it disappears.
Until they fix it, it's best to avoid launching APKs from Astro File manager.
If you think your APKs installs are using Astro File manager as the default app, you need to clear it.
On a Samsung Galaxy S7, I had to
1. Settings > Applications > Application manager
2. More (Reset app preferences)
3. If you have Samsung Kids Mode installed, you need to run and reconfigure it (if you don't you'll get annoying popups because Kids Mode app is now unstable until you reconfigure it)
4. Return to ES File Explorer and launch the APK (if there are still issues, continue to step 5)
5. Go back to Application Manager (i.e. repeat step 1)
6. More (drop down menu on top right) > Show system apps
7. Scroll down and locate Package Installer
8. Set as default
9. Try again

Need help sideloading..... I normally use side load wonder machine but it wont recognize the skyrocket using ICS 4.04.... anyone have any better options? I know there are a few but just wondering the easiest methods.... and why sideload wonder machine is not working?
YES I have searched and I have even sent messages to the Rom developer for what I am running... no answers.
Thanks a bunch

dang 224 views and not ONE response???? WTF?
Well you responded.
I've always used drop box to move apks from laptop to phone, then ESfileExplorer to drop the apk into the app folder.
Why do you want to use side load wonder machine? I thought the whole point of it was to bypass AT&T's sideloading restrictions. Why not move the .apk to your sd card then install from your phone?
Or even easier, email it to yourself.
I use Android Commander very useful it will also let you change files
If you decide to try it out on first start right click Run as Admin then click on Program/Settings then click on associate apk's then all you have to do is click on the APK and it will install . I love this program and its free
Put the apk on your SD card. And use any file manager to open it. You must have "unknown sources" checked in settings.
On gb: settings/applications/ check "unknown sources"
On ICS: settings/security/ *scroll down* check "unknown sources"
Once that is checked you can use any file manager from the market, eg. File expert, x plore, astro, Linda manager, es file manager, ect.
And just go to the apk and open it and it will install it. No computer necessary! You only needed to use a computer when att blocked installing third party apps, but they stopped doing that after the atrix.
I hope this helped you
