[Q] Wanting to replace black housing

I have the black skyrocket and I would like to change the housing to white. I would even consider another color. Has anyone found a site or know where I can get the housing pieces? I know that I will have to replace the front screen due to the border being black on mine.
Any help would be great. Thanks!!
You're gonna end up spending more on those pieces than you did for the phone.
the complete front panel with screen is $220. that's more then the phone its self if you got it on contract.

I did find a few site that had them and I have also come to the same conclusion that you guys pointed out. It will cost me more to place everything to make it white. I will just have too stay black or find one on ebay that the insides have crapped out.
Thanks again guys.

I took a look at the vinyl skins and found ones on ebay for the skyrocket. I ordered two to see how it works out.

Aside from the "why did you get a black one, if you wanted a white one" question
Have you thought about just selling yours on ebay (or similar) and just getting a white phone? Like just about everything else, if you price the parts individually... It always costs more than buying the finished product. I guess White Out wouldn't cut it?

I didnt get white because i was impatient and didnt want to wait another week for a phone to come in. Its stupid now but i deal with it.

Have you looked at what would be involved in selling yours & getting a white one... Cost, Trade etc?

In the short time I had my SGS2, I read this tutorial on taking the outside housing off and sanding it down to give it a matte finish. I'm sure something like that can be applied to the Skyrocket, since it's nearly the same design. Take off the housing, paint it white, and replace it. The screen wouldn't be white, but maybe it looks good like that.

This looks like the one. I guess it's not a tutorial after all, but if you read through it, you can find out what different people did.

Just looked and they have them for the one xl though... That might fit!

That model seems like a bad idea. First, it seems strange to me that the front plate is held on by a really small and flimsy looking hook. That to me gives me the impression that it could fall off really easily.
Also, the sides being open around the screen mean pocket lint is going to collect in there and on a normally white phone it may look really bad.
Finally, he showed it off without any SIM card I noticed. I would like to see someone test the signal attenuation that is caused by the all metal case. It may not affect signal at all but I would want someone else to confirm that before plunking down ~$30.
Just wait a few months, they will be sold for $12-16.

I got one on Friday. It fits our device fine but it is a complete piece of garbage. Very cheap feeling, finish is crap and the front part that slides in is not secured well.

Replacing the lens

This might be a stupid question, but I want to make sure before I go forward. I need to replace the lens on my Verizon GS3, but I can only seem to find i9300 lenses on eBay. Shouldn't these be interchangeable? I'm going to buy one that comes with the digitizer just in case the one on my phone is damaged during disassembly, but I just want to make sure it's all the same from a software standpoint. Thanks.

There is a thread buried somewhere that says they are different. Don't fit correctly. Had to take lens from camera and swap out.
Wow, glad I asked. Thanks!

I found the thread to which you were referring, but I'm not talking about the camera lens. I'm referring to the front glass over the LCD. Are those interchangeable?

Camera Lens Glass cracked

I cracked the glass on my camera lens. What can be done about fixing it??
I know insurance covers it, but only if I pay the $200 deductible. HTC can fix it for next to nothing in cost, but that requires I mail the phone to california, wait for it to be fixed and for them to mail it back.
I have found the entire back portion of the phone available on eBay for $40 however after closer look, these are all for the HTC One X, not the HTC One XL.
I was talking to a friend of mine and he says the glass is just a very thin piece of protection and you really dont need it so I should just remove it. As it is now, the camera takes extremely blury photos. Any ideas on how best to fix this? If the glass is not important, I might just remove it entirely but it'd be nice if I could fix it somewhat cheaply.
i have to ask how the hell did you crack your lens cover

I'm pretty sure it happened while I was working. I keep my phone clipped into my seidio active holster. The case keeps the phone protected quite well. I've dropped the phone from the height of 4-8' several times, without any adverse effects.
I know the night I was working on a large data/phone cabling job, I am sure I did not drop it. But when I went to take my photos, they all came out blury and I found its cracked. Has two cracks, forming sort of an X. I would bet you that it happened while I was working on the hard tile floor and rolled over on top of something hard like one of my tools or something. Possibly. Still unsure.

I did call AT&T warranty, I was told that they do not cover small issues like cracked glass on the camera lens. They will only replace the phone if it was not working... like a bad micro usb port or something. If I was more sleezy than I already am, I would break it so that I can get it replaced. But I'm not doing that.

As in covers, do you mean the housing? If so, that's the whole phone shell other than the screen because it's a unibody... From just looking, I'd just get thecamera bezel with the camera lens. Save some moneyy

Theres the link. According to my research, you cannot so easily just replace the glass. You have to replace the entire back cover, as its all in one.
superchilpil, I believe the link I just posted is for the HTC ONE XL. Should be, it says AT&T.

Agreed..I know because I took my back housing off just the other day, I wanted to see if I could switch just camera lense out but it seems to be one off those sonic plastic welds..the housing and lense cover are fuezed, and it has both option international and at&t version, even tells the difference in the description of the housing lol

Ok I'm aware its all one piece, it's a unibody. But if theyre just selling the bezel/lens piece, it's probably just glued down, being screwed in a good chance also.

They have just the camera housing covers as well (like $4)
Now what someone needs to do is buy and 3d scan those covers and start 3d printing them in different colors
Read up a few posts bro the housing and lense seem to be fused together ( from what I saw when I took mine apart two days ago about to do it again just to be sure lol

I'm also going to buy the verizon model and since im not on verizon i'll intresting in how it could be removed.
but i know that when i had xtremeguard back protector (a transparent sticker) everytime i removed it, a part of the beats and htc logo was also removed.
So, maybe if you will put duck tape on it, remove it and repeat the process it will eventually come out.
I know it will probably not going to work, but this is the best solution i could think of right now
Its laser etched into the frame. I found thses sample 3m vinyl wraps in amazon that I'm going to try. Hopefully it will add a little texture for a better grip at the same time.

Use a P-Touch lable
Sand it with light grit sandpaper. You are going to have to sand the whole thing to make it look good, but if you take your time you should get a nice brushed but shiny look.

Of course. It's going to make the entire back look like a price of brushed aluminum a lot brighter than it is depending on what color you got. But it's gonna look totally different.
