I have looked all over and can't get a good answer on this, I recently updated my Galaxy s2 Att to Siyah 30.31 v3.2.2 and running Phone-Bricker v2.7, before that was Mystics pride. The problem I am having is setting up Exchange email, I have all the settings set correctly as I did on all prior roms and kernels, but it keeps giving me either a (user name or password) error , or an IOException error if I try and use an exchange email app from the market. NOTHING WILL SET UP. Help please.

+1, I think you should try another app
I have tried almost every email app that is Microsoft exchange compatible that ALL give me an error. I read somewhere else its a known Samsung ICS issue. Most people that HAVE to use exchange are going back to gingerbread:/ that is my last resort.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Might be a Samsung issue but:
I am running ICS 4.0.3 Objection#2 UCLD3 ROM on a Galaxy Note i717.
2 different Exchange accounts, on 2 different server versions: Exchange 2010 and one 2003. Both set up and running flawlessly in the stock email app.
You don't mention what server version you are trying to connect to, 2007 and 2010 do require ssl, and if using a self signed cert you must be able to select "Use any certificate".
I know if that option isn't available it will likely be impossible to connect to either of those server versions with a self signed cert.
I know this doesn't help your issue, but to say it's a blanket Samsung ICS issue would seem to be incorrect.
I am in the same situation, 2 Active Sync accounts: Zarafa Z-Push and Exchange 2003. Zarafa seems to work, but Exchange Account stalls at a certain mail and nothing helps. After I delete the account and re-create, it progresses not to the same mail, but another one and stalls there.
I have tried AOSP from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25004492&postcount=129
replaced the one from my (very great) distro (http://android.doshaska.net/cm9), results the same...
I am very sad, b/c I love my new milestone in every other aspect

The only gripe i have with the Galaxy Tab is the abominably slow Email app with Exchange integration. On any app start or when return from reading an Email it takes a full 30 or more seconds to load the Email list (i sync 1 week) and more often than not the screen / app becomes unresponsive and force closes.
I discovered that unlike Touchdown the in-built Email app simply downloads all Emails (1 week horizon) in all sub-folders (i have many, organization freak...). With Touchdown i can pre-select the folders i want on the Phone/Tab, which obviously makes the number of items much smaller.
By now i don't want to change from Email to Touchdown, because I like the integration of Emails & calendar entries, etc. native, but I have to work with the tab on work Email,... can't wait for every mail for 30 sec to load
Does anybody experience this too, and are there any remedies?
thanks
That isn't the case with me. I have 27 subfolders (really), not counting Inbox, Sent, Junk and Deleted folders. I need to manually refresh all but the main Inbox.
Response time moving from folder to folder is also a non-issue, and I sync back a full month (which is thousands and thousands of emails). I don't notice any extra delay when leaving Email and doing something else on the tab either.
I'm using Push, not timed polling, and no "peak schedule" so that may make a difference.
Sounds like you might have some database corruption going on. Try going into Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/All/Email and then "Clear data". This will nuke the mail on your device without changing your account settings. Sync up again and see if you still have the problem.
If you do, go into Accounts and Sync, click on your Exchange account, and click Remove Account, then reboot the Tab. Once you've done that, set your account back up, resync, and see what the situation is.

I did see the issue reported (with no solution) on other forums though
Thanks
Edit: cleared data, same issue. I am hesitant to re-setup, because others have reported that that didn't help them either. I am on JM6, interesting that you don't hv the issue

Same with me. Very slow!!
It was the same on the original firmware/rom, on JK5 and JM6. Also performed full factory reset but it makes no difference.
Using the eval of roadsync at the moment and it works pretty well but it does not integrate very well with the calendar and contacts apps. I will probably configure roadsync for email and the built in app for calendar and contacts to get a working solution. Annoying and very disappointing!!

This worked for me no lag when opening up my corp inbox. Tab now 100% perfect.
Had to change the galaxy email app shortcut as it was set to open the previous account by default. Even though they were called the same it always opened a blank mail box . I then had to change to all accounts. Now resolved

Be careful, it's a very OLD email.apk, from a pre-release leak of the Tab ROM.
It's missing a few features, and it has a lot more connection issues. I tried it just to bypass needing a PIN, it was not reliable.

ok, this thread needs to be updated a bit, because just simply referring to the link is bad advise.
it broke my camera (driver crash), probably because the email.apk posted in the other thread linked does not have an *.odex file
i reverted back to the original email.apk and email.odex and my camera is working again.

You have to use only the email.apk and keep the original Email.odex, then the camera works fine...

Last time I tried to pull it from the fw, but didn't succeed.

I think the problem is related with security from exchange. Because when I use the stock app I have to assign a pin to access the system, and the mail app works very slow, but when I use a modded version without the security it works normally...

The implementation of Exchange on Android is screwed... I use an Exchange 2010 server and not all my folders show on my android device. And even the ones which show dont update ona regular basis (My Sent folder updates once in a while... Right now it hasn't updated for 2 weeks)
On top of it it doesn't update all the features/items. For instance impossible to have birthdays for contacts. Or impossible to modify an event from the exchange calendar (It's only possible to delete it)
Not much to say. It's disappointing on a phone. It's ridiculous on a tablet (you expect at ;east the email client and the calendar to be perfect on a tablet)
Same happens to me since the beginning, anyone has found a solution???
I think it's unacceptable
Thanks

Yeah, I usually check my mail on my phone every morning (stock ROM, stock Mail app). This morning it wasn't showing any new emails (despite the fact that I get emails from Newegg every day). I thought it might be an LTE thing, but it wasn't working on wifi, either. I cleared all my data, deleted the account on the Mail app. Tried again, and it was telling me how many messages were on the server, but it wouldn't download any of them.
Later, I force quit Mail and cleared it's data. Now instead of presenting a variety of account options, I have just Microsoft Exchange and Other listed. I picked other, put in my credentials, and it keeps coming back with an Authentication failed message.
It could be a problem on Yahoo's end

i just tried their old pop settings also, with no better luck.
Count me as someone having a problem with this as well. I noticed it a week ago Saturday as I had just installed a new ROM and couldn't get Yahoo to sync.

Setting up IMAP on your mobile device To set up IMAP on your mobile device please use these settings:
Incoming Server -imap.mail.yahoo.com
Outgoing Server -smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Incoming Port -993 (requires SSL) Outgoing Port -465 (requires SSL/TLS)
Username: full email address (for example [email protected] or [email protected]) Password: the password you login to Yaho with. If you are having trouble setting up IMAP on your mobile device we recommend reviewing your phones instruction manual or contacting your mobile provider for support

I'm having trouble synching on my TB and my wife's Incredible. Is this a fluke or is yahoo blocking IMAP on purpose?
So this will only apply for Yahoo mail. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
[1] Turn off SSL and use port 110
or
[2] Set incoming server to pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk port with SSL on 995
Yahoo has apparently a bad or expired certificate which is why people are seeing all types of errors like "Invalid Login" or when adding account "Unauthorized User please try your user name and password again" ect ect.
Again use at your own risk this was information from Yahoo support.

That solution is for POP email, not IMAP. Big difference.
With that being said, I have no solution for IMAP. Using POP you'll be able to get your mail, it just won't be "pushed" to your phone.
well it works with cm7
didn't notice. I like the yahoo mail app better. More features and notifications on new messages.
the yahoo mail app is great...it has push notifications
Seems like this is a universal problem amongst carriers and devices. I'm surprised there hasn't been any press about this.

Hello all,
Has anyone been able to successfully configure Activesync corporate email on their devices? I'm running the latest CM7 Ninja ROM on my Inspire 4G and have been running fine for the most part, but I just got hired at a new job and have been unable to get it to work. I've searched online and have only seen very old issues, and no real resolutions.
I've also tried this on my rooted Nook Color, running CM7 Phiremod with the same results.
This is an exchange setup with only Activesync and OWA enabled....
Thanks in advance for any advice you guys can offer.
No issues here at all, we have exchange 2010 though. Not sure if that matters with ninja

no problems with exchange on android here. been using it for over a year.
by the way, the general rule of thumb around here is that if you are asking a question with your thread (you did take the time to label it with a [Q]) then it belongs in Q&A...posting questions in development is wasteful and leads to a lot of hate
We're running Exchange 2010 as well. Other users are on iPhone and BB with no issue...I've tried every combination of login, such as:
[email protected]
login
\[email protected]
domain.com\login
Activesync is configured with no SSL, and it isn't configured for rpc over https right now, owa and activesync only for remote users.
I even tried downloading the Exchange for Android app. It seems to try every authentication combination and it still won't work. The error that comes up is an authentication error.

Good luck on finding a fix.
I got the same problem, and so does my wife (who has not messed with her phone nearly as much as I)... So, I don't think it's a ROM issue. I think it's possibly the outdated Yahoo authenticator on our phones... The Yahoo Mail app from the Play Store works though..

It has nothing to do with which ROM you are on, as I am running stock 2.3.6 (rooted).
The Yahoo!Mail app does work. I had to delete it again because it eats my battery.
You're not alone. Before I rooted, I did a factory reset to quickly rid my phone of a bunch of junk apps and afterward during setup the native email client wouldn't allow my adding Yahoo! email... said same thing, "cannot add account please try again later".
Called Yahoo! tech support, Moto, etc. Nothing works. So, I'm using MailDroid from the Market. Not a bad app but I don't like how I can't change font sizes within the app like I could with the native android client.
C'es la vie, right?
well I can tell you guys that its not the conduit, because it was working native less than 1 week ago for me until a recent wipe/flash. It must just be the setup. I'm temped to SBF back a version or two someday when I have time.
I could do without the contact sync, but I liked how it showed the Y! icon notification for the yahoo acct and other notifications for other accounts.

Maybe Yahoo! finally fixed w/e the issue was?
The email app installed on the HTC One S is horrible compared to the standard android app when using it for activesync/exchange.
It doesn't display email properly and doesn't have message advance and back icons. You have to open the menu to get to them.
Does anyone know of a way to replace it?
You could just install a different email app. I hear good things about K-9 Mail (have not tried personally).
I actually think the standard android email app is pretty bad for Exchange, since its meeting invites do not show time or place directly.
I've used k-9 for imap connections, but it won't do an activesync connection to sync my contacts and calendar, unless there's a new version that does that.
I switched back to "Enhanced Email".
I couldn't find a way to change the ringtone in the one that came with the phone.
I also didn't like that you couldn't move back and forth through the messages like mentioned above.
I see Enhanced Email is $9.99 in Google Play.
I got it for free when it was the app of the day for Amazon.
I didn't know there were any alternatives other than Touchdown.
I'll give it a try.
Thanks.

Also, the attachment don't display from the mail client. You have to download them and open them directly from a viewer app.
Weird. It works on my exchange activesync account. See attached.
Attachments work fine too.

I don't think so. Whatever the exchange server version is, html should always be supported. Did you say it worked on other android phones?

When I had my Desire, I installed one of the ICS beta version (AOSP) and on that native ICS email client with the same exchange server, html support worked great.

Its definitely a bug in your email app since it works for me and other android phones. I would suggest removing the account and adding back if you havent tried that already. I would also factory reset and see if it fixes. if nothing, the only option is to get a replacement.

Thanks for the Info and efforts.
I did several factory resets with no change.
I also already had the firmware updated with no change.
I asked htc support about that and they escalated it still with no answer for more than a month.
Yet, when I enter an account which is not my exchange server like Gmail and such, I do get html support. That's why I figured the issue is related top my exchange server version...

Just out of curiosity, what is the version of the Mail app on your phone? Maybe this is not an issue in all T-Mobile US phones because of different version.
