Since i answered my question, i figured i'd share.
In my case messenger was set as thw default application for phone numbers on web sites.
To rwmove this setting:
Settings » manage applications » messenger » clear defaults.
This will tell messenger not to assert itself as a default app.

When i pull up my Gmail app in which i have 2 accounts...it gives me an incorrect number alot of times of how many new emails i have in there. Its not just emails i have missed way down the list either. i can log onto my account from a computer and they will be right there. its like when i delete them from the app it takes them off the list but doesnt always really delete them.
Is there a way i can fix this? or do you guys recommend the stock "email" app vs the "Gmail" app?
both accounts are Google based.
Thanks.

Try resetting your gmail app by wiping its data.
Hi All,
Sorry if this issue has been brought up before but i couldn't find an answer anywhere on the forums. Please note that this is my first Android device and i'm still getting accustomed to the OS.
I prefer using the stock email app over the gmail app on the galaxy S3, however, everytime i receive a mail notification and want to check it, the phone automatically opens the gmail app to check the email instead of the stock app.
I can't find anything in the settings menu or the settings in either application to help with this issue.
Anyone know how to set the stock email app as the default to open emails from the notification bar?
Thanks!
Go to settings>apps>all and disable Gmail. Haven't tried this with Gmail but I have to assume it works, I can vouch for disabling the stock browser and messenger this way.

I'm not one to want to install the app, but does anyone notice the browser just freezes when navigating to facebook. It used to just do it to me occasionally when I would view a pic to comment... now it loads facebook up and just freezes as soon as it loads. Any ideas? Anyone know how to use the facebook app without having it run all the time? I've always used the browser because the app feels like such an invasion of privacy.

Download Chrome from the Market. You'll never look back.
Or Tinfoil for Facebook
Tinfoil for Facebook is for those users that require a Tinfoil Hat when logging in to Facebook. It creates a sandbox for Facebook's mobile site in order to protect your privacy and to avoid them tracking your browsing history. Requires INTERNET permissions, and if you are skeptic about it, feel free to check the source code here: https://github.com/velazcod/Tinfoil-Facebook
It also requires the "COARSE_LOCATION" permission. This is NOT used UNLESS you enable "Allow Check-ins" on the preferences, otherwise Check-ins won't work. This option is disabled by default.
Latest:
- Ability to upload pictures through the web interface (Newsfeed -> Photo -> Choose file). This is not the same as "picture sharing" since you can't do it from your favorite gallery application yet, that's coming soon.
- Holo theme for Honeycomb/ICS devices.

Than you both. I will just us chrome. Smooth and easy

1. On standard android email program, can I set defaults and if so how. Example, I have 5 accounts setup on the email program, I use the combined view, but each time I go back to the app, I have to go back to more options, sort by then select read/unread its a total pain.
2. IVONA text to speech, can this work with ebooks or zinio magazine viewing app.if so how do I go about it.
Thanks in advance.

Hello all,
I've decided to ditch Gmail and use the stock mail app. One if my accounts was hacked recently so Google had me add an extra layer of protection that when ever I sign in from another new device (or when I change ROMS) it sends me a verification code in a text message to complete the sign in. Is this what's preventing me from being able to sign into my account using the HTC mail app? Is there a way around it or something I'm missing when trying to set it up.
Thanks,
Mark

You have to go into your Google security settings and get a unique password that you will use for the HTC mail app. You will use the password supplied when you setup the mail app instead of your Google password. You will find it near the bottom of the security screen.

Where are the Google security settings at? I was able to go to Google settings and hit the 3 dots on the to right and one of the options was to get a verification code and it gave me one. I tried to use it as a password without a space in the middle and with but it still says failed.

I am not near a computer right now but you might need to get to the Google security settings via a browser. A verification code will definitely not work. You need to set an app specific password. Try to Google search "two step authentication app specific password" sorry I can't be of more help right now. If I was near a computer I could give you exact steps.

https://www.google.com/settings/security
Then click on settings for app passwords
It will generate a one time use password that will not be shown again after initially generated. You can save it if you wish, but you can generate as many as you wish so there really isn't a need. You can also revoke it at any time.
Thanks to both of you for the help. It worked like a charm.

Glad you got it to work. Too bad Google doesn't make that function a bit more obvious.
