Hello. I've just started a new campaign for Qualcomm. Please, support it by signing
http://www.groubal.com/ics-compatible-openmax-il-compiled-for-armv6-from-qualcomm/
As you might know there are millions of ARMv6-based devices in the world, and many developers are trying to prolong their life porting latest Android Ice Cream Sandwich to them.
Last time we asked you to release Adreno 2xx driver updates for ARMv6-based chipsets MSM7225 and MSM7227. And Qualcomm has released the update which is really greatly appriciated. (http://www.groubal.com/ics-drivers-compiled-for-armv6-from-qualcomm-update-drivers-released/)
But now we stuck at another point and we couldn't proceed any farther without the help of this great company.
I'm talking about OpenMAX Integration Layer update (core & codecs) for our devices. It is used for hardware-accelerated video recording and playback, image capturing, camera controls etc. Now we are able to use only software "acceleration" for that, which makes device almost useless for many things. It was present in Gingerbread, but it has lower API version, so we can't just use it in Ice Cream Sandwich.
Without help of Qualcomm it's nearly impossible to overcome, because our devices uses QDSP5 digital signal processor, which has no publicaly available specs to port OpenMAX by hand.
Qualcomm has also released updated version of the chipset named MSM7227a which has pretty same hardware (QDSP5 too), but ARMv7 core. Devices with MSM7227a are able to run ICS out of box!
These devices are affected by the problem (according to Wikipedia):
LG Optimus Me, Samsung Galaxy Fit, Samsung Galaxy Mini, Samsung Galaxy 551, LG Optimus Chic, ZTE Blade, HTC Legend, Mytouch 3G Slide, HTC Gratia, LG Optimus One P500 GSM, ViewSonic ViewPad 7, Samsung Galaxy Europa, Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 (SE Shakira), HTC Aria, Palm Pixi GSM, OlivePad VT-100, HTC Wildfire S, Alcatel OT-990, Micromax A70, LG Optimus chat L-04C, Huawei Pocket WiFi S II S41HW, Huawei Ideos X3, Huawei Sonic U8650, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro, Garmin & Asus M10, WellCom A88, Coolpad W706, Garmin & Asus A10, Samsung Galaxy Gio, Samsung Galaxy Ace, Odys Space, LG Optimus Net, LG Optimus Hub, ZTE Skate, HTC ChaCha, HTC Salsa, Huawei smart bar S42HW, Coolpad 7260, ZTE Blade S
Most of them already have a working port of ICS, CM9, AOSP, AOKP etc. Almost everything is working except multimedia hardware acceleration!
So, please Qualcomm, hear our voice again!
Please sign the petition if you have a device that meets one or more of the following:
1. uses ARMv6
2. has an unofficial ICS port (CM9, AOKP, MIUIv4, etc.)
3. does not have an ICS port due to the lack of these drivers
If you have anything you would like to say, please add a comment along with your signature.
Also, please spread the word about this Groubal (in forums, social networking sites, etc.). For example, if you are using some kind of ICS port, you can post in the thread of your rom. Or if there is a Facebook page for your phone, you can post there too.
Please do not sign the petition more than once or spam the petition. It ruins its credibility, not to mention that you are probably lowering the chance that our voice will be heard. If you really want to support this petition, then don’t spam.
Other than signing the petition below, please voice your opinion in the following links:

Hi, I don't want be rude and talking badly to the Samsung Galaxy but a new device with Android OS that has only a 3.2Camera and no- Flash seems bit absurd don't you think? The name has nothing to do with the real world...a galaxy or a star usually is very bright...with this phone you cannot even make photo or video in the night time...mmmm....not a galaxy whatsoever................
All I can say is: Stay with HTC models!
But the procesor and the chipset is a lot better then the crappy qualcomm. If only HTC start to use different processors.
Qualcom chip
Are you sure about that? I have an Htc Diamond 2, a Sony Xperia X1, and Htc Hero, they are perfect ! before that a Samsung D900...it was fine...nice phone but I could not do it the things I do with Htc or Sony.
u cannot compare phones with different OS, and I dont know what chip was used in D900. I am talking about Snapdragon(Qualcomm) vs. Hummingbird(Samsung).

have you seen the galaxy videos? it takes like 5+ secs to actually getting in to the gallery after pressing it. it seems kinda slow to me. unless that's because of the software being beta or something, that's slow to me.
@ qualcomm vs hummingbird: qualcomm will come out soom enough with dualcores.

1. seen that, especially the "Lady" that was clicking on icons like she was mad and launching few programs at the same time, but who knows.
and after qualcomm will come with dualcore, samsung will come with better dualcore.
I think there were some benchmarks comparisons, will try to find them.

Hello,
i was actually wondering if anybody knows how to Mod correctly a galaxy.
I have a galaxy from the middle east which does not come with marketplace. the I7500JVIL2. I have flashed it using ODIN to another rom I7500xiik, however many options stopped working like sdcard, camera, etc... i flashed it to 1.6, camera started working but sdcard still doesn't.
So, I was wondering if there is any way to get this fixed. I need sdcard so that I flash using recovery mod. I'm trying to flash it back to the original build I7500JVIL2, hoping this will make everything work again.
Do you think this is a good solution? Are there suggestions you can make on another build to use that has marketplace and everything working on the phone.
Sorry if I posted in the wrong place. I couldn't find anything regarding galaxy on XDA and I love this forum. I habe been able to succesfully mod my g1 through this forum.
Thanks,
VENI VIDI VICI

For me the only thing to like about the galaxy is it's name
I just realized that you are talking about the galaxy(i7500) and not about galaxy s(i9000).
BTW galaxys, you should sue samsung for using your nick.
Personally I wouldn't touch a Samsung with a bargepole, I have owned a few Samsung phones, where the phones tend to be okay they do not support them at all with firmware updates, they have a remarkable release rate of phones and rather than supporting the current ones they just release a new one!
Galaxy name
Yeah your right only the name is cool....I don't know why people don't pay attention to the market...We have around in Uk at list 10 top of the range mobiles, starting with HTC HD2, Htc Desire, Htc Legend, Nexus One, Diamond 2, Motorola Milestone, Nokia n900, Omnia2 and so on....Why buying the Galaxy?. I will give you another example: Which would you buy between Htc Desire and Sony Xperia X10???...Of course the Desire!!! they have the same price but Desire is on another planet: Android 2.1, Multitouch, better Keyboard, better interface...Maybe..the only thing Xperia X10 has better then Desire is the Camera that's all...Xperia X10 is basically a 2009 device sorry arrived to late!
Hi everyone,
First, i'm new here, and I love this site
Second, I'm from Belgium, so if you can't read what I wrote, it's normal, I don't speak english very well.
Third, there is my question : could you make a list for me, with all mobile phones, in which i could put Cyanogenmod (and if i could root it of course). Because I'll maybe change my Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 because i saw in another forum that it's impossible to make a Cyanogen for X10, and also because X10 is very late for updates (I'm on Android 1.6, 2.2 will be released in March 2010).
Thank you for your help
Nexus One
HTC Aria
HTC Dream
HTC Magic
HTC Desire
HTC Evo
HTC Slide
HTC Hero CDMA
HTC Hero GSM
HTC Incredible
HTC Legend
Motorola Droid

Ok thank you I'm sad xD
Do you think Cyanogen will never create a ROM for our X10 ?
And if not, are there other really nice ROMs for X10 ?
I don't think X10 has been rooted yet, so I don't know if you even load a Custom ROM or flash a new image.
SE said they will get Froyo for X10 in November(?), while keeping Eclair for the X10 mini, X10 mini pro etc. In another "unofficial interview", CEO of SE said that they are planning something big, I think this is a PSPhone since Sony had failed to even announce a PSP2.
I'm guessing that the rumour was true, and SE will announce a Froyo phone that will be able to accept Sony's memory cards and Sony will allow that device to enter the PSN (same as the PSP Go's Market). This phone will be a slide / tilt / flipout with the gamepad on the bottom, where the top layer is the touchscreen and SE's 3 buttons. I'm guessing it will be plastic and it will resemble the X10 (not a good thing).
It would probably have something powerful beneath it; definantly 1GB LDDR2 RAM (or more) + 1GHz A8 processor (or more) + SGX540 (or more).
I also think it will have a miniHDMI connector like the HTC EVO 4G, for presentation/gaming.
All in all, it will (have to) be better than all the smartphones on the market including the N900/Milestone2/GalaxyS/iPhone4 and it will definantly be expensive (on-par with the iPhone4 or even more expensive since Sony is a greedy company).
If you can shell-out for it, you won't be disappointed ... the Playstation name is too valuable to stain!
Thank you for your answer Ekin, even if I didn't understand everything
But on xda-dev on the forum, I found the way to root it, but I'm not going to do it if there is no ROM to add :'(
Thank you
A new skype version is available today on the market. It enables more phones/tablets. Nevertheless the Transformer is not yet supported.
cause it's a tegra2 device

Me too. Also I want the ability to send and recieve files.
According to
http://blogs.skype.com/en/2011/08/skype_21_for_android.html
Is your device not on the list? No need to worry...
For those of you using Android 2.2 (Froyo) and above, you should still be able to enable video calling in your Skype settings. Just go to "Skype settings" after launching the app and select "enable video calling".
Unfortunately, if you cannot see the video calling settings, it means your Android phone does not meet the minimum requirements needed to make Skype video calls. Please be aware that video call quality may not be as good as on a certified Android device and only the back camera of the device will work if your device is running on Android 2.2 (Froyo).

Not sure how transformer can not meet the min requirements.
maybe it's so cause our transformers are tegra2 devices

Samsung Galaxy S2 IS a tegra2 mobile phone device, just not a tablet device? and sadly drivers are 2.3.4 based, which again means that 2.3 gingerbread drivers are probably not 3.x compatible anyways..
very sad..
edit: i was wrong, it seems!!
It is now working on my MT4G. It has an option in settings to enable video call. That option does not appear on TF. On mobile I got a very good videpo quality. Since Microsoft took over Skype, things are finally moving. Perhaps tablets are next.
Skickat från min ASUS Eee Pad TF101
Sick and tired of Skype's ****ed up bull****, our Eee Pads can MORE then handle video calling and tegra2 phones use it, its just bull**** plain and simple. They play ****ing games (remember Fring). And no one at Skype will give a straight answer and they have no contact line, emails go unanswered, I assume they simply dont give a **** like most other tech companies these days (can you say dell tech support line? I knew you could).
I'm pretty sure Skype has a reason. It's a business. It wants to make money. It is going to do what ever is most profitable. If you don't like it, start your own VoIP company, convince the majority of the world to use it, then develop an app for every device/OS out there. I'm pretty sure you'll find it's hard to make everyone happy.
With that said, I too look forward to having Skype video chat on the Transformer.

Here is the response from Tech support:
"We understand your concern about the availability of video calling on your ASUS Transformer. We will be happy to assist you with this.
Steve, we are working on adding more Android devices all the time, but we are not able to provide you with an exact time frame for when your device may be supported.
To make Skype video calls on Android device, you will need:
An Android phone running Android 2.2 (Froyo) or above. Front facing camera. Chipset with NEON technology support*. The latest version of Skype for Android (Skype 2.1 for Android and above).
* This specifically does not include some tablets that use the Tegra 2 chipset (e.g. Android tablets and Motorola"
I previously had no Android experience and recently bought Xperia X10 Mini Pro as suggested by friends in a haste as an upgrade from my Nokia E63. After purchasing it, I found it out to be more of a downgrade. The phone itself is outdated but that is a different issue.
Web browsing is better, I got GPS and music is a major overhaul. But the inability to do proper multitask and lack of GSM-GPRS Dual Mode means this is not gonna replace my E63. Sadly, as deep as I have searched, Dual mode is not as easily available among Androids and proper multitasking requires huge RAM compared to Nokia. So I need suggestion on a cheap android that can truly replace, suppose a Nokia E71. Does such an Android phone really exist?
ZTE blade maybe the best one for the guy had no Android experience, or a better one, MOTO defy.
I don't think so

ZTE models are sadly not available Here in Kolkata. That model would not have suited me either. But DEFY is a seriously good mobile. Got good RAM, Armv7, PowerVR GPU, long battery life. Price is within my capability. It is also water/scratch/dust resistant. Are u sure that it supports dual mode? The website does not mention.
I didn't understand the issue with camera clearly, If I get the GREEN version does that mean camera will never work for me using CM9? [I am damn sure India gets green. Guess I'll have to sacrifice ICS then]
From this post it seems that Moto Defy supports Dual Transfer Mode. The only concern that remains now is about ICS update and the camera. Can anyone clarify that?
When it comes to pricing, no one can beat Nokia
There are lots of cheap Android phone available in the market, but you have to compensate in the screen resolution, speed etc. I wud recommend you Galaxy S (i9000) if you can afford...cheaper than dat is Galaxy ACE & Galaxy GIO.
Check if HUAWEI is available in your location, they are the cheapest highly loaded Android devices here in Oman.
zte monte carlo nice
Problem is, none of the mobiles you mention has Dual Transfer Mode in official specs, while even the latest Nokia, the Lumina 800 mentions Dual Transfer Mode (MSC 32) clearly in its specs. It is sad how Symbian died due to lack of interest from the part of application developers, but it had the best multitasking among all mobile OSes. In Android, whenever I minimise Opera Mini to do something else, I am always afraid that perhaps opening the next file will unload the browser in background; while in S60, u can have 20 apps running and 20 tabs open in browser in a handset with only 128 MB RAM, if pushed to its limit, the device will reboot but never ninja kill apps in background.
I can provide many links where people complain about lack of DTM in their Androids. Sony Vivaz is a S60 and it supports DTM.
Some said that editing build.prop allows DTM in some HTC phones. I have tried that in X10 Mini Pro and it did not work. Seems the radio antenna itself is cheap.
I recently ran a test in my X10 Mini Pro by starting a file download in it and sending a barrage of SMSes from another phone simultaneously. The download failed, none of those SMSes arrived ever.
So please mention how u know that those devices suggested have DTM. It is necessary.
I think I need to update my question. From this post, it seems that SE does not provide DTM as 3G already supports multiple connections. SE may think that there is no necessity of this technology in this age of 4G but in India 3G is both costly and rare.
I need GSM DTM, not the simultaneous voice and data capability of 3G.
Edit: I have subscribed for 3G. I was shocked to find that good quality 3G is cheaper than US here. It will be activated within 24 hours. Lets see if dual mode works now; else I'll have to get another handset with better radio.
Update: Ok HSDPA allows simultaneous voice and data in this handset. But 3G drops during calls perhaps due to poor signal so I need stock ROM to force WCDMA only.
Hi folks,
I am a owner of a SGS+ (i9001) which chipped with the chipset MSM8255T.
Now I've seen that are out some ICS-ROMs working with the Desire HD already which contains the (estimated) previous version MSM8255.
Unfortunately I could not find any useful information at Qualcomm, which shows the differences between these two chipsets.
May I use one of these ROMs as a base for my development for an MSM8255T or differ the chipsets too much?
There is an Alpha-Release from SE for the Arc S (4.0.1) which has the same Chipset as the i9001 ... but this lacks the basic functions including the modem and wifi ...
not a good starting point when i have the chance to start behind this limitations.
Nice holidays
Hi hirnwunde!
Funny nick )
I own a SGH-T679 (Exhibit II) witch is a half brother of the GT-I8150 (Galaxy Wonder).
What I can state that my phone works with SGW roms, issues are with the keys and the camera.
The SOC seem to be the same on different clock speed.
I don't know if there is a way to safely boot SE or HTC roms on Samsung phones.

You have to watch for other device though, for instance the screen and camera needs different drivers. that by itself prevents direct usage from other phones even though the cpu is the same..
