us cellular sms & mms gateways - General Topics

I have access to a wiki page that list all the carriers around the worlds sms & mms gateways and have also looked at us cellular website which list the same gateway addresses. oh and before I go any further i'm on sprint. but my question is if I plug in a # on any other carrier in gmail with the sms gateway I can send a text through my email client and that person can text me back to my gmail except for us cellular. When I was on the phone with the us cellular tech he tried to tell me only us cellular customers can use the sms gateway address to text through gmail or through a program called text for free over wifi by pinger inc.
How is it that it's possible with all the other carriers and how is us cellular able to block my use of sms texting through email? how can they tell if an email address is an actual us cellular customer?

get email with 5.99 tmobile proxy??

hello guys, if first like to start off by saying that i did try searching but was unable to find a solution. I currently have my email address at msn.com. I'd like to be able to access my email and recieve notifications of new emails on my phone.i realize that windows live program does not work with the tmobile proxy, so i found a program that forwards email from msn to gmail.com so i figured id use outlook to check my forwarded email, but outlook wont connect through the proxy. what im asking now is whether theres a program out there that allows me to check my email (msn.com or gmail.com) through the tmobile proxy? thanks in advance and all answers are appreciated.
bump .
I think you might be a little mistaken. The 5.99 T-mobile plan includes unlimitted free e-mail. As long as your outlook e-mail uses a standard port (which gmail does), then you don't need to use any sort of proxy or anything to get it to work, it just works.
If you do have the proxy set up, then you would need to make a second wap profile that circumvents the proxy.

APN confusion regarding GPRS services

I'm having a hard time understanding why European GPRS vendors make a distinction between email, internet, and WAP services, and consequently I don't know what service to ask for when I purchase a PAYG SIM when I travel.
My primary GPRS interest is
SMTP for the handset's email client for IMAP (both google and exchange server accounts)
ActiveSync for contacts/calendar synchronization.
RSS reading, resulting in some cases some podcast downloading
Tethering via WMWiFiRouter
as you can see, i'm not a big HTML user, if at all.
What key terms and phrases should I look out for in the service descriptions in order to get the right internet service I need?
A specific example would be the ambiguity Vodafone Romania has between the email mobile vs internet mobile descriptions and the related APN differences "live.vodafone.com" and "internet.vodafone.com".
Also, for some reason T-Mobile UK is not included in the excellent list given over in the thread GPRS/Internet Connection Settings for the whole world thread. seems like it should be on page 4 but it's not. any reason for that, and does anyone know the APN settings for TMO/UK?
Lastly, what is an example of a WAP service?
Thanks in advance.
there is no universal answer to this
they made a big mess of it indeed. want to trick customers
wap service:
in most cases it won't let you out of vendor's special web page. there you have access to services to check your credit, payments, company info, some ringtone, music shops... mostly useless stuff.
ah and with windows mobile, there is no official way of setting it up. you can use 'work' and set some rules for wap.* ....anyway, you don't want that.
email:
in most cases this service will allow you to access only email on vendor's server.
e.g. [email protected]
in another case you'll have POP, IMAP, SMTP and maybe activesync allowed and web browsing limited to vendor's address.
yet another case is your data plan is small, means you'll pay for 1MB more
for rss you would need full internet anyway.
in general, if you have "internet" service, it have everything in it.

mail proxy for android?

Hello,
Please recommend me the app.
I'm looking for mail application which can receive mails from one account (corporate exchange in my case) and automatically sends (forward) this to another mail account (gmail).
probably you know another ways to do this? I'm asking about this app on android platform because my cell tariff plan is 3g unlimited, but I haven't host *nix or win at home or office to perform this forwarding.
the best way would be the check an email from exchange server from gmail account like imap and pop3, but unfortunatelly, default gmail account has support for these ones only(pop3/imap)

[Q] Modify Softbank Mail client for iPhone APN

Hi,
I currently have a SIM free Samsung Galaxy S2 and I'm using the Softbank network in Japan with a black SIM card. Now I have everything working in terms of able to connect to the internet and also send MMS using a modified stock MMS client that allows the User Agent String to be specified as an iPhone.
My problem is that there is a lack of a "Reply to All" function in this MMS client. Since lots of people I know use an iPhone, they often have group messages. Now the only MMS client I see that has a "Reply to All" function is the Softbank Mail client
(I can't post links, but if you search for Softbank on the Android store, it should come up)
However, installing this and trying to send an MMS doesn't work. It gives a connection failure. I assume it's something to do with the User Agent String or it has hardcoded the non-iPhone APN settings in.
Has anyone any knowledge on how to modify this to work with the black SIM on Softbank?
Thanks for any help.
