Mobile AP restriction - Samsung Infuse 4G

Good afternoon,
I currently have a samsung infuse which I love very much. It is an At&t, which of course has an AP mobile function. Only thing is I am using Claro mobile, which of course isn't apart of the AT&T network. About 5 days ago, I rooted my phone. Then downloaded "titanium backup". In which everything worked wonderfully. I was able to freeze the thethering option which allowed me to use the mobile AP feature of the phone.
I then had to do a hard reboot on my phone, which of course wiped my system clean. After repeating the entire process (root, titanium) now when i load titanium back it says "sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will not *work*! Please verify that your room is rooted and includes busybox, and try again.
I am so lost as to what has happened as nothing has truly changed. My firmware is still 2.2.1 Could someone please help me. Thanks in advance.

Make sure superuser app exists. If it does update the binaries in the menu. If that didn't work then you need to re root. Might also have to force an update on the super user app. I did once.

Thank you for your response. I was not able to get it to working using your method. So what I did was upgraded to gingerbread 2.3.6 Yet all I want to do is be able to use the mobile AP. I d/l super manager 3.0 in which I was able to find the tethering manager. I froze it, but when I go to Mobile AP it says " MOBILE DATA IS NOT AVAILABLE OR INVALID SIM" Could someone please assist me with this. Even if it is downgrading to another firmware. I really really need to be able to use this Mobile AP. Thanks in advance.

Good morning sir. I have seen the response about superuser. Yet after updating as suggested. It still tells (titanium backup) that my phone isn't giving it permission for root access. Would that then suggest that my phone isn't rooted?

I was super bored and decided to search the entire xda-developers.com thread on infuse. I was able to find my specific answer. I wish I could donate to the creator.

[Q] some quick questions

i've looked around this forum for hours..there is a tooon of info on here and im just tired of trying to sort through this.
first off, i recently updated my captivate to froyo 2.2 and lost everything i had on my previous rooted 2.1. before i did the froyo update i made a complete backup with titanium backup. My question is, can I recover that back up on 2.2 if i reroot my phone and run titanium?
if so, whats the best way to root the captivate on froyo 2.2?
sorry for the noooob questions, but all the information on here is a little overwhelming. so i appreciate any information you guys can give me with as little flaming as possilbe
thanks
I think all ROMs (2.2) are rooted since they are all custom made by devs. just install titanium backup and restore
I dont see any superuser permissions (or whatever its called) in my app drawer. And when i try to run titanium backup it wont work

Did you load a rom or just flash 2.2? If you loaded a rom made by a dev it would be rooted. As far as getting your stuff back all you need to do is use a one click root and run tibu. Or find any 2.2 rom and flash through cwm and run tibu.
This is my Captivate. There are many like it but this one is mine.
I just flashed the leaked version of 2.2. Do you happen to have a link to the one click root for 2,2. I found a couple threads on here. Thanks in advance

You can try z4 root from the market or try that gunmans thread for one click root in the dev section. Im in my phone so its not easy to give links.

How to root Samsung Galaxy 4g

Pretty simple root method.
1. Download SuperOneClick found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
2. Once installed click rage option then Root.
The rage option is if you look on the right of SuperOneClick you will see Exploit and there you will see rageagainstthecage option there. This could be just an SuperOneClick 1.7 option. If you don't see it either upgrade or using just the root button should work.
If it is frozen at waiting for device you will need to install the samsung drivers found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
If all goes well you should be rooted. Pretty simple wasn't?
At this time ClockworkMod nor RecoveryManager work so please don't ask about them. When they get updated we will post it.

true, however that thread doesn't have the links needed to do the root in the OP, so actually this thread is better for those looking to root without the need to go searching throughout the thread.
also when i rooted my device there wasn't a "rage" option for me to choose. i just clicked on root and everything went fine.
They can delete my thread if they want, it's not that big of a deal.
INCORRECT!!!
I did not have to use rage against the cage, i just did default exploit in superoneclick and everything went perfectly!

I also don't know what this Rage option is. I did shell root for temp root and then perm root via the root button on SuperOneClick 1.6.5

I get an error message saying that it can't find the file specified. This is my first time rooting a phone and i have no idea what i am doing. I looked at the other thread and tried using the rage thing. Nothing is working.
I connected my phone via usb. Put it in mass storage, as opposed to Media Player or the Kies option.
Not sure where to even begin.
Dont put mass storage. Just leave it charging while having usb debugging.
Just tried that. Saying the same thing. I turn on debugging, connect the device via USB, open SuperOneClick, hit root, and it bring up the same thing.
Saying the system cannot find the file specified.
I just got the phone today and haven't done anything else to it, or added any apps to it or anything. Is there something i need to put on the phone or no?
all right thanks man ill try it out see if it works

I897UCKB1 root question

Hi everyone. I searched the forums and couldnt find an answer to this question.
My friend brought over his captivate to update on my PC (since his wouldnt recognize his Captivate). He was running rooted stock. I updated and he wanted to root again so we are trying to root using SuperOneClick v1.7. We run SuperOneClick and it says it was successful. Superuser is listed in the apps. Whenever we try to run a app that requires root access (Titanium Backup, Screen Shot IT) it was that they can not acquire root privileges. Can anyone tell me what we might be doing wrong? I appreciate any help.
Did you reboot after rooting?

Is ur phone dead by now? You may be able to charge your battery out of the phone? Anyway I'd figure out a way to hide the super user icon, there has to be a way to do that. I doubt anyone would go beyond looking for superuser to determine rooted or not
I have returned at least 3 different rooted Android phones at the AT&T store and no one there cares. Just take it back and tell them it does not charge. The people at the retail store are not power users, they can barely tell you the difference between Android and IOS, do you think they know what Superuser means?

[SUMMARY] Rooting and Roming the i337

The i337, S4 can be a very difficult device to come to grips with. With each firmware version there are new root methods and recoveries that can be used. The purpose of this guide to try to put all those in one place and provide a basic summary. There are many smarter than I who have done the hard work and I'll try to give them credit in this guide. If I've missed anyone please pm me or post here and I'll correct it.
FULL DISCLOSURE, I DON'T OWN THIS DEVICE AND NEVER HAVE. I JUST KNOW A LOT ABOUT IT. IF THERE ARE ANY ERRORS OR IF SOMETHING CAN BE CLEARER PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
The very first thing you need to know is what bootloader version you're on. To determine that go to menu, settings, more, about device. Look at the last three characters of your baseband or buildnumber. You'll be on either mdb, mdl, mf3, mk2, nb1, or nc1. NOTE, if you’ve flashed a modem your baseband may not reflect the current firmware version. Alternately if you’re rooted, for a definitive answer, in a terminal emulator on your phone type the commands:
su (return)
getprop ro.bootloader (return)
1. You're on MDB or MDL, your bootloader is easily exploited and you can use a common custom recovery, TWRP or CWM with loki. See this excellent guide by @ xBeerdrioDx, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314494
2. You're on MF3 or MK2. DON'T TRY TO USE TWRP, CWM, ROM MANAGER, or TWRP MANAGER. My personal recommendation is to upgrade to NB1 (once you upgrade you will not be able to go back). To do that see @muniz_ri stock odin tar's at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2674223 . You'll need to extract the file using winrar or 7-zip. You'll end up with a .tar.md5 file. Use that in odin's PDA slot or AP slot if you're using odin 3.09. For odin I'd use this, http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...=9V2YMclcePs8PugxewUhmw&bvm=bv.73231344,d.b2U
NOTE: Using odin will wipe your device so backup everything up on your internal sd card that you want to keep to your PC.
To root, install Safetrap and flash your rom:
If you've used the rootable version to upgrade your firmware you can boot into your device and use towelroot to root it. Towelroot by @geohot can be found here. https://towelroot.com
Now download and install chainfire’s supersu apk from the play store, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu&hl=en
Use Safestrap 3.72 as your custom recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448925
Before installing safestrap go to the play store and install SELinux Mode Changer, grant it root access and change mode to “permissive”, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mrbimc.selinux&hl=en
Flash your rom and the nb1 modules, https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=17227 Thanks to @guut13
NOTE: you can only use the stock rom slot
3. You’re on NB1. DON'T TRY TO USE TWRP, CWM, ROM MANAGER, or TWRP MANAGER. I’d take the OTA to NC1 which is rootable. Use towelroot to root and Safestrap 3.72, see above, but flash the nc1 modules.
4. You’re on NC1. DON'T TRY TO USE TWRP, CWM, ROM MANAGER, or TWRP MANAGER. Use towelroot to root and Safestrap 3.72, see above, but flash the nc1 modules
5. You’re on NI1. DON'T TRY TO USE TWRP, CWM, ROM MANAGER, or TWRP MANAGER. Use this by @muniz_ri http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/general/how-to-root-i337ucufni1-t2881298
And the most important link I can give you is the great work of @guut13 which is mandatory reading for everyone on the i337, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616221
Thank you so much for posting this! You really ron the fear out of it for me.
Recoverable or brick?
I am so very bummed I did not come across this thread before I jumped feet first into playing with my new S4. Suffice it to say I did not know of the pitfalls involved, nor was I aware of the different S4 iterations.
I did not pay close attention to any of the things I was supposed to note. I know it's an i337 from ATT and that it was running 4.4.2. I rooted using towelroot and then tried to install TWRP using their interface available on Play marketplace. When I rebooted, I found that I was stuck in Odin mode. Having very quickly come up to speed on the complexities address in the OP, I'm going to try using the 4.4.2 Odin OTA all in one linked above to bring everything back to stock. Odin does connect and recognize the phone.
My question is...is there any hope this might work? I have no idea if I'm on MDB, MK2, MF3 or NB1. No way for me to find out that I know of.
Thanks!

When you say lose at&t service are you referring to your warranty, if so, yes if you're rooted when you go in for service. To root, just download the towelroot app. That's the only step by step you need.
Before you root ask your self why are you rooting. If you don't have a good answer then don't root. Don't do it just because you can.

No, rooting does not affect that in any way.

I have baseband I337MVLUFNE1 on my Rogers S4 running 4.4.2. (Build number also ends in NE1).
I don't see NE1 anywhere on the OP. What does this mean? I was looking to try CyanogenMod but am afraid I may break something.
No you don't

This thread was written specifically for the i337, not the i337m. You have an i337m. You have an unlocked bootloader and can use twrp or cwm recoveries.

Thanks jd1639. I didn't realize there was a difference between i337 and i337m.
