This is the method to root Micromax Funbook & install CWM recovery.
1) Download the attachment funbook.rar
2) Extract it , it contains CWM recovery & CWM-SuperSU.zip two .rar files
3) Extract CWM recovery to desktop & connect your funbook via usb
4) If the device is not detected then install the ADB driver in the attachment
5) open CWM recovery run Recovery-Install.bat
it has 3 option select 1 to install CWM recovery
select 2 to reboot into recovery
select 3 to quit.
6) then move CWM-SuperSU.zip to internal sd of funbook
7) boot into CWM recovery by pressing menu button & power button simultaneously.
8) select install zip from internal sd card & select the CWM-SuperSU.zip & press power button, select yes to continue.
now you are Rooted
Before installing any custom rom perform a NANDROID backup.
This method is successfully tested by me however use this at your own risk!

How exactly is CWM recovery supposed to be installed on the tablet?

just run the Recovery-Install.bat with micromax funbook connected & ADB driver installed on your computer, it will autometically install CWM recovery on your funbook.

Funbook is Pre-Rooted. No Need to root it again.

For all having problems in installing I found this on thinkk digit forums... Maybe this will help you:
INSTALLING CUSTOM RECOVERY
1. Download CWM Recovery 5 ICS.zip
2. Extract it.
These are the requirements fo Flash CWM...
- tablet must be running Android ICS version (4.0.x)
- tablet must have Superuser installed with SU binary loaded
- tablet must have Debugging enabled (ADB drivers included)
Your Funbook is Pre-Rooted, so we'll just proceed with installing Superuser App from Market
3. Go to Play Store and download Superuser.
4. Go to Superuser App > Settings > Su Binary > Install the Binary
5. Reboot.
Now we'll enable USB Debugging
6. Go to Settings > Developer Options > Turn On USB Debugging.
Now we'll increase the screen timeout to prevent screen from getting turned off in the middle of these procedures
7. Go to Settings > Display > Select Never at Sleep.
8. So now connect the USB Cable to your PC and Funbook and you should see USB Debugging Connected notification.
At this point, if this is your first time, you may see Windows trying to find Drivers which will fail ofcourse. Go to Device Management [Press Windows Key + R > Type devmgmt.msc] > Right Click on Unknown Devices > Update Driver Software > Browse My Computer for Driver Software > Both 64bit [Drivers-AllwinnerA10-64bits] and 32bit [Drivers-AllwinnerA10-32bits] Drivers are provided there within a folder named ADB_Drivers under the Recovery Package, so just browse them according to your OS Specification. A screen may appear up saying "The Publisher of this Driver could not be verified", just ignore that and "Continue Anyway".
9. DO NOT TURN ON USB STORAGE. LEAVE IT AS IT IS.
Time to install CWM. There are two methods. One is easy, by running a script and another is using ADB by typing commands. You'll get an _Instructions.txt there which lists both the methods in case you want to try out the 2nd method. Here I'll only cover the easy one i.e. using Script.
10. Run recovery-install.bat [Windows] / recovery-install.sh [Linux] and press any key and just wait and watch the show
11. Within few mins recovery will be installed.
To reboot in Recovery Mode -> Press Options Key and by keeping it pressed, Press Power Key. Release Power Key and then Release Options Key.
12. Reboot.

HAVING PROBLEM WHILE INSTALLING CWM?? GETTING PERMISSION DENIED ERROR??
Ok, for those who cannot install CWM from the normal steps(most probably new funbook users having Base 1.2 and ICS 4.0.3) follow these steps.
1. Install Superuser from playstore, update binary, you'll notice it will fail one part(red text), re do the update 2,3 times staright away until all the text become green, no need to reboot phone, but you might want to.
2. Install Android terminal from playstore, in terminal put su and press enter, if you get a warning allow it, if # comes you have root access. If not, re do step one. Don't continue till you get this step correct.
3. Download ES File manager from playstore, go to settings, allow all root access related options and also tick go upto root option.
4. Now start ES file manager, go to root, long press the dev folder, set properties, check all boxes, click ok. Do the same for the data folder, now open the dev folder, and repeat the steps for the block folder, and inside the block folder do the steaps for nandg file.
5. Allow USB debugging from dev options, connect the cable, install drvers.
6. Run the ICS recovery script, wait for it to finish, if it fails then you need to check and set permission again, if all goes well you have successfully installed CWM.
Warning: When setting permissions in ES File Manager make sure the USB cable is not attached, if so it might cause a hard crash and brick the device.
I had used this method to flash CWM on mine and on my friends device, both Base 1.2 and ICS 4.0.3(made in may 2012, the rom build no is: 97F1-D1-H2-H01-MMX.20120512) hence I think funbooks made after may 2012 must use this method, otherwise the script will fails due to permission denial.

Hi, immortal, thanks a ton for the guide. I managed to root my phone as well as remove most of the bloatware. A couple of questions, would be great if you could help me out with
1. In another thread you mentioned installing fly-on mode for some tweaks to make it run smoother. Would be great if you could help with a link or instructions. I tried googling but could only find ones that needed CWM recovery
2. The space for apps is only 800MB. I know link2sd allows you to allocate external sd card memory, but i was wondering if there is a way to increase the internal memory allocation itself for apps, since there is about 6GB or internal memory.
Would appreciate your help in this regard.

You can find fly-on mod here ....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2226373
Since till now there is no cwm recovery the option to install this mod is manual installation .....
Follow the same folder structure create and paste files with the help of root explore its the best tool also don't forget to set permission as follows
All new folder 0755
Files inside init.d 0755
Files inside xbin and bin 0755
Rest all files 0644
I did this in same way ...now am almost fully customised with gesture supported android L keyboard
Face lock in lock screen option ..which all lava didn't provided us in stock ROM [emoji12]
Regarding internal space we need to do reparation once cwm recovery is done we can do this easily .....
At present I don't have Linux build environment so am not touching that part my net is dam slow
If any one is ready to setup build environment and compile custom recovery then contact me I will definitely guide you and help you to my best of knowledge ....
Further if you need anything just contact me ....never fear to brick your device i already wrote a unbricking guide which is working perfect ....(I have already bricked my device many times )

Thanks for the quick response. Apologies for so many questions, but i am not quite sure how to do it manually. I downloaded the zip "Signed_Fly-On_Mod™_sqlite_KK4.4.zip". I understand thats a flashable file, i tried to unzip it and i got the meta-inf and system folders. where exactly should i put these folders?
Also, i am currently using root browser, do you recommend root explorer (its a paid app right?) I did not understand the numbers you assigned to each folder, is that some kind of root permission that you give in root explorer?

You can safely ignore metainfo folder ...
Only need to paste contents of system folder ie contents inside system folder .....to system folder in your device
Simply contents of system folder to system folder of your device ( inside ticked folder in image )
Root explorer is most best root file manager for ever .... ?
Permissions please refer these images with value

I got them
Not sure if you have a locked bootloader, but you could try this command to find out
Command to boot into bootloader:adb reboot bootloader
Command to check bootloader status: fastboot oem device-info
Command to unlock bootloader: fastboot oem unlock
Command to check if recovery works without writing over your stock recovery: fastboot boot recovery.img
if it works then continue with next step
Command to flash cwm recovery: fastboot flash recovery magnum_recovery.img (on linux this has to be on home folder( or fastboot flash recovery C:\magnum_recovery.img on root folder of C:\ on Windows))
next step
Command to reboot: fastboot reboot
Try this CWM 6.0.5.1 and report back
To test recovery I recommend you install aroma file manger first. And post a picture of mounts here.

Here is twrp 2.8.0.0.
If it's not loading the storage sdcard then I have to adjust the fstab or add flags to correct but without the device it's nearly impossible to figure what it's needed. Recovery logs would help.
Done for the night, will respond in the morning.

[GUIDE]Newbie Guide for How to Root/Flash Recovery/UNBRICK on Canvas A111

Hi good day to all am RJ am going to guide how to ROOT / FLASH RECOVERY in Micro max Canvas A111 jb4.1.2
WARNING: If your Micromax Canvas A111 smartphone gets bricked or gets damaged while following the tutorial given below, we shouldn’t be held responsible. Proceed at your OWN RISK.
I will try to keep this guide up to date. Please let me know if you find something wrong or missing
Content:
1) Introduction
2) How to root
3) How to flash recovery
4) FAQs (ADB, Loki, Download Mode, Go to Recovery etc.)
5) Troubleshooting (unbricking)
1) Introduction:
Micromax Canvas Doodle a111 is a 3G Android smartphone with a 5-inch TFT HD Touchscreen display. The phone is powered with 1.2 GHz Quad-Core Processor and it runs on Android 4.1.2 Jelly bean OS. With 8 mega pixel rear view camera, the phone offers high quality image capturing. If you are looking for a smartphone under 10000 INR with good features, then Micromax Canvas A111 would be the ideal choice!
If you are a user of Micromax Canvas Doodle a111 and would like to gain root access for installing rooted apps or custom ROM’s, then the following tutorial will help you. I have given step by step instructions for rooting A111 smartphone below
2) How to root:
Prerequisites To Root Micromax Canvas A111 Smartphone1. Take complete backup of your personal data in the Micromax device using appropriate apps. Although the root process won’t affect them, its safe to keep a backup.
2. Remove all the Antivirus applications installed on your smartphone for virus protection since sometimes they will cause trouble while the rooting process is going on.
3. Charge your phone battery and keep its backup level above 80% as the rooting process drains the battery. If you don’t have enough battery backup and your device gets switched off during the rooting, then surely it will get bricked. Avoid it by having a good battery backup.
4. ***Enable USB Debugging mode in your device by following the path: Settings -> Developer Option -> USB Debugging.
5. *** Make sure you have drivers for your phone Download from here http://www.androidrootguide.com/micromax-usb-driver-download-get-drivers-micromax-smartphones
Once you have done all the above mentioned tasks, you can move on to the rooting tutorial given below.
download any one application from bellow links
1. For VROOT :: click here
2. For Root Genius:: click here
Tutorial To Root Micromax Canvas A111
> To get started, download VROOT / Root Genius from bellow link and install it on your computer. Once installed, open the application.
> Now connect your Micromax Canvas A111 smartphone to the computer using the “USB Debugging Mode”. If you have installed the required USB drivers for your phone on the computer, then the VROOT application will automatically detect your smartphone.
> Now just click on the “Root” button shown on the VROOT / Root Genius window and let the rooting process begin. The smartphone will get restarted several times during the process. So, don’t panic. Once the rooting process is finished, the device will reboot for one more time.
> Thats it. Now you have successfully rooted your Micromax Canvas A111 smartphone. If you want to confirm whether you have successfully rooted or not, use the “Root Checker” app. If you encounter any issues while following this rooting tutorial, do let me know via comments.
****** if u not able to understand the above please click on the Link it will more easy http://rjpraveen.blogspot.in/2014/08/how-to-root-micromax-canvas-doodle-a111.html

Download Recovery image files from billow links
CWM Recovery :: Download the img for your device here

5) Troubleshooting
a)Unbricking
If you are reading this you have a problem. Your phone has become a brick. But do not despair yet as there are a few ways to unbrick your phone. Let us first determine whether it is a soft brick or a hard one.
**Soft Brick: Basically it means your phone is bootlooping or showing a blank screen but you can still go to recovery/download mode. The easiest way to fix this (and determine if you have a soft vs hard brick) is turn off the phone and then press the volume up button and powerbutton (keeping vol up pressed). If you see recovery no problem flash stock rom
**Hard Brick: If you cannot enter download or recovery mode then you may have a hard-brick. This is not a fun situation to be in but there is a fix that may work. It involves lots of linux commands and is not for newbies but then if you are hard-bricked what have you got to lose.
Here is the guide done by ChinmaySharma to get back if u hard bricked
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2901983
For Video Review to Unbrick watch here in this link in you tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35E21Vi_ddE

[Resolved] Trouble shoot for Xolo Era X and 4G Twrp installation.

Hello Everyone -
Welcome back , In previous post i explained " How to install twrp and root Xolo Era X,4G" but i forgot to mention some things which resulted errors for many users making it non-beneficial , I mean wasted time , data , or may be the android rom. Thanks for describing problems in previous post. Now it's mine turn to return you something original , something good .Search your question answers here and problems.
Please note that this thread is only for Xolo era X , 4G marshmallow 6.0 version only , 5.1 is not supported .Sorry but update to 6.0.
1. `adb` is not recognized as an internal or external command
Ans - If you are facing this error then probably you are not in the folder where adb and fastboot tools are installed .
You have to open command prompt only where adb tools, drivers are installed.Still not solving then google it.
2. adb devices = blank (nothing is shown)
Ans - I think you have either not connected your smartphone with usb debugging on or you have not installed proper version of adb and fastboot drivers. Please google for different versions of adb and fastboot.
3. fastboot devices = blank (nothing is shown)
Ans - Same as in above answer.
4. fastboot flash recovery recovery.img = <waiting for device>
Ans - It means that you have not installed fastboot drivers properly or you have not connected your devices in fastboot mode.
5. fastboot flash recovery recovery.img = no such file found or recovery.img not found.
Ans - You have not copied or moved recovery.img(twrp or cwm image file) in the folder where adb and fastboot are installed .So put the recovery.img (it can be twrp.img or somename.img) in the adb and fastboot tools folder(it can be either found in local drive C or at any custom location) .
6. Recovery Installed successfully but still booting in stock recovery or Computer shows installation successful but still opens stock recovery.
Ans - This is a great problem for many users and it is happening due to security policies of android 6.0. To fix it Do as following-
(1) Install twrp recovery and when it say success plug your battery out .
(2)Put battery back and open smartphone in recovery mode by holding VOL Up + Power Button for 15 seconds.
(3)Now your smartphone will boot in TWRP recovery but your twrp recovery is still temporary .
(4)Install SuperSu.zip by twrp recovery and this zip file will patch boot.img and system files.
(5)After installation of zip file reboot your smartphone .
(6)Your smartphone will restart 2-3 times and finally will boot .
(7) Finally you have rooted your smartphone and installed TWRP permanently .Now install busybox and enjoy.
Note: Please Select Expert Mode when you open SuperSu app first time after this process(you will be asked by SuperSu app to select two modes 1 Expert , 2 New User ; always select Expert or root will not function properly).
I hope you got what you wanted . If i helped you then please Subscribe , like and share also Hit thanks here on xda.

Flashing kingo root superuser is not a bad idea, you can try it but be aware of risks so take a backup through TWRP.You can try anything new after taking backup,if something goes wrong then restore your backup.Good luck.
Need latest twrp recovery
I want the latest version of recovery for xolo era 4g and want some custom roms....plz make it.....plzz
I'm facing an issue with the OEM Unlock toggle in developer options. When I toggle it On and select OK for the pop-up box that comes. It automatically disables it. Can u help me out with this and tell me why I'm facing this issue?
