I recently rooted my Inspire (2 days ago) and just today ive noticed that im getting dead spots on my touch screen. Its most noticeable when im typing something and one of the keys will hardly register. I will have to push multiple times, harder than I would normally have to for it to register. Rebooting the phone fixes the dead spot for a while, and then a new spot will have the same issue a little later. If anyone has any suggestions or and ideas on what could possibly be causing this I would really appreciate it.
What rom/kernel are you using? A lot of people were having that problem, including myself, and to my understanding it had something to do with the drivers. I believe Lee's latest kernel addresses this problem.

I've noticed this while using the CoreDroid ROM and the Gingerbread keyboard. I switched back to the HTC keyboard and deadspot is gone. So my guess is, its something with the GB keyboard.
Well I am using LeeDroid Rom. Does the regular rom itself not update the Kernel aswell?? Sorry if this is a dumb question, this was my first time rooting.
It's a well documented bug. It's hardware problems with inspires

same here, using Coredroid V7(even before v7) and Lee Kernel 3.1.7 BFS.
same here.. its always the A and the O with almost every rom..
@OP:
This is a known touch screen drivers issue. Only way out is to press power for screen off, and then press again for screen on. I don't think any of our devs here can do anything about it (atleast I assume so, with no doubts about the abilities of our devs).

Great! I generally (close to 95%) have my screen rotation turned off, so didn't notice it. Thanks for the idea though.
I have had my sensation for a couple of weeks now and it is proving to be one of the worst HTC phones I have ever owned. I am beginning to become concerned that I may have a faulty device, as my complaints about the phone are really starting to mount up. I will list a few off the top of my head and you can tell me if this is normal behavior:
Unlocking the device: Sliding the ring up to unlock the device can take as many as 3 or 4 attempts at times no matter how deliberately I attempt to do so.
Bluetooth Audio: If I connect to my car for both phone and music, then disconnect, then connect to my bluetooth headphones, then disconnect, then get back in my car, the phone bluetooth will connect, but not the media. This is solved by long clicking the bluetooth connection under bluetooth settings and going into options, then unchecking and rechecking the media box. (annoying and not a problem on either my nexus 1 or MT4G)
The phone is slow: Like way slower than either my nexus 1 or MT4g
Restarting the phone: When I long press the power button and select restart, the phone will turn off... but not back on without several presses of the power button.
Data Connection: I have, on more than one occasion lost my data connection in a 4g area to the point where all data is lost. No 2g, no g... nothing. No icon in the status bar. I have tried entering and exiting airplane mode to restart it, among other things. Reboot seems to be the only solution.
Call Waiting: The phone has, on more than one occasion, refused to let me switch calls when I receive call waiting.
Force Closes: I have received more force closes on this device with a variety of applications, than I have on any other android device that I have owned. To the point where I did a factory reset of the device to see if that would clear things up. It did not.
Line through non HTC Widgets: I get seemingly random horizontal static lines through random non htc widgets sporadically. Sometimes a reboot rectifies this, other times the widget needs to be removed ad readded.
That seems to be all I can think of at the moment. I eagerly await your responses.
Yeah, I'd get it exchanged. That's not even close to a satisfactory experience.
I also get a few unlock attempts.
The data network its extremely slow like 3g our less while on 4g outside with full strength in signal bars.
I also don't get a restart when selecting that and I just sts off completely and have to hold the power button to turn it on.
do you hear a noise if you press in the screen with a bit of effort? I don't know if its just my phone our a common sound.

I've had the Sensation since June 8th, I've had the static lines in the Widgets but none of the other problems. My lock rings works every time. I also came from the Nexus One so I never had Sense, I think it's a bit laggy but my apps open up just as fast as the N1. My phone fully shuts down and restarts everytime (I do it daily, it's a carryover from the BB world lol) Bluetooth works great too.
If I were you, I would get a new phone, something doesn't seem right with yours.
I have been keeping silent about it for the most part but I'm in the same boat with you on a few of those things. I don't use bt so I dunno about that nor do I have the line through the widgets issue. But my touchscreen sucks balls. It takes forever to unlock the phone, it just doesn't register my swipe up no matter how slow I go. Also in general my touchscreen is just weak. Tons of my swipes are registered as taps so apps or links are opened. I also have the data stall issue. I have read through the supposed fixes for people with similar problems but nothing fixes my issue. The lockscreen issue started a week after getting it, and happened until I did a factory reset. It then worked for another week before the issues showed up again. My sister has a sensation too and has the same touchscreen issues as me. I have been holding off, hoping htc would send out a big fix update, but damn it is depressing. I have already mentally prepared myself for giving this to my wife in september and using her upgrade to pick up a Hercules. I really hope some updates change my mind.

Can someone please let me know if you can hear the plastic parts of the phone rub when you press down in the screen? I have noticed if I press around the screen with about the same force of scaring snapping your fingers or less the phone makes a sound of what I think is the source between the screen and the edge frame of the phone. I first thought that was the reason why the unlock took a few tries.
either that or I think maybe a small air pocket caused by a spec if dirt was why the unlock want working since its almost right on it. It also works better if I grab the left side of the ring then the right that has that tiny pocket. But still I noticed the huge end call and call button I have to press on it a few times to get a response. I press it far left but near the air bubble that's why I didn't think that would cause any touch problems with the unlock ring.

I am having the lock screen issue , my 3rd phone, all three did it after a few days to a week. I do have the Bluetooth problem as well. I have a jawbone jambox and i can only get media to connect after initial pair. I always unpaired and paired again to fix the problem, i'll try your method next. I think the reason you cant change calls has to do with the touchscreen issues. I am waiting also for an update. The really really messed up thing is that HTC says they know nothing of theses issues, so a fix could be a long way off.
Thanks for the responses. I have had the phone for about 3 weeks and have been holding my tongue. The OP is a copy of the e-mail I sent to HTC that I have yet to get a response to. I will post HTC's response as soon as I get it. I was happy to see that some other countries received an update that fixed a few things, but really I just want to see if CM7 can rectify most if not all of these issues. I have been playing the waiting game, but might just throw in the towel and return it before my 30 days are up (CA).

While I do notice most things are slower than on my Nexus One, some things are just incredibly faster. Theres no denying that web browsing on the Sensation is some of the best I've ever used.

Is there a setting for this? I loved this setting on my BlackBerry.
Has anyone noticed if you have to weather as ur lockscreen back ground and the temp is 100 and above, all you see is the last 2 numbers cuz the 1 is right on the edge of the screen.

well, first full reset and retest. if it persists, then ya exchange it. my lock ring is so smooth i pull it up and play with it while bored. spin circles around the sun (weather lock screen) then either let go to unlock or put it back at the bottom. can do the same with all 4 app shortcuts. one flick up with 3/4 of the ring revealed and its unlocked.
edit: phone is 3 weeks old, multiple widgets and full of apps, stock launcher.
Since a day or three i'm having this very weird problem with my touchscreen, I'll try describing it as good as possible:
- Half the time it works perfectly and very smooth
- Then suddenly it gets difficult to slide/drag on the screen and it seems the touchscreen "automaticly" trys to start tapping the lower right search button/icon/softkey. Followed by of course the searchfunction popping up.
- Sometimes it even goes beserk without touching the phone at all (keeps hitting the search button).
- If i then lock my screen and unlock it, it sometimes working perfectly well for a moment.
- Also noticed when it's occuring and I try pushing the hard case just below the touchscreen it also acts up ....
Okay, so I hope i described it ok, it's al so random at the moment. I'll report more if I can.
Rom i'm using: the latest cyanogenmod9 (did full wipe etc, still same problem and no-one else reporting on the same issue).
The problem also occured in Clockworkmod recovery!!!
*edit:
Quick side-note question, I have htcdev unlock and using custom roms. Can I get my phone back to full standard/stock so I can send in my phone for warrenty? Or is my warrenty already lost by using htcdev unlock etc? What are the best steps to get full stock again? (so no htc dev unlock, no root, no clockwork recovery etc ...)
after some reading and testing it turns out to be hardware related. this thread may close, looking for some help reverting back to stockrom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1595539
Have the same problem but on stock ive send it in for warranty its gone now for 2 weeks now mine was/is full stock because i still have warranty later in time ill play around with roms.ill let you now what happend if it gets repaired under warranty or ill have to pay.

Try this, I found it on another forum:
This is from Lignja (earlier comment):
if you have touchscrean and swipe problems on your sensation, download SGS touchscreen booster from market, install it, press on super optimized, and pull first 3 collums on end left, and 2 last on end right, then press apply... your sensation will worke like a charm, you wont have any swipe problems or locking ring... then you can test it and turn back ond defult or uninstal that application and it will still work... hope it helps you like it helped to me... soz for bad english..
I'm having some strange, but serious issues with my device. It started a week ago, I started it up, it somehow didn't show the boot animation anymore(!), and when I reached the lockscreen, the device just freezes. I can turn the screen off/on, and it can register one touch (ex. on the unlock slider, so it vibrates), but further it just doesn't respond anymore, till I turn the screen off and on again.
Then I went to recovery, and instead of loading the whole menu, it only displays the text "build: " at the left bottom of the screen, the rest just doesn't show up, neither does it respond to anything.
My device is currently useless, and I find it a very strange problem, so if anyone can help me, maybe has an idea of what's wrong, had something similar, or knows how to fix it, you would be my hero!
Btw, I can connect through both ADB and Fastboot normally.
Thank you.
should be in q&a thread

Just did it, went without problems, only it still hangs at recovery, and at the lockscreen.
Only now I've also lost my ability to use adb...
What more would you suggest to test?

I don't know much about programing, but i would suggest you restore to stock like you did then re-root, and try other recoveries. like amonra or different versions of Clockwork mod.
well the orange.nbh will change your radio/spl/recovery. from this point fastboot should work fine (so long as your emmc/motherboard isn't fried)
so can you get into fastboot? if so flash amonra recovery here then reboot into recovery
if that works then you may want to update your radio/spl before flashing a new rom
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
It's definitely the screen flex cable inside the G1. Happened to my old screen. You can't do anything other than get a new screen.
Before flashing the .nbh I could fully use my fastboot, but now it gives me the "remote: not allow" (btw i'm on 1.33.0006 now).
So I can't flash the amonra recovery, and I must note, that when this trouble started, I Was already using AmonRa1.7, which had the freezing.
sound like the motherboard is nearly dead, fastboot works with that spl... you might look for a cheap g1 on ebay
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
As I said, its not the motherboard. Its the screen.
I had the exact problem with my G1. Down to the tiniest detail. Swapping in a new screen fixed it.

I don't think it's the screen, since when I boot it up, (even tough I don't get a boot animation) the lockscreen I get is displayed perfectly normal, and even detects touch. Also my fastboot, etc display normal...
I think rather that there is something with the motherboard/cpu or something. But I don't see how it could give the symptoms i'm having right now. Since if for example the cpu would be fryed, I'd guess nothing would work at all.
as you describe it, it sounds unlikely it is the screen or flex, it shouldn't freeze but rather not respond to touch (could be intermediate) or won't show picture etc.
the motherboard may not fully be fried rather it is partitioned out to diffrent blocks, data, system, radio, spl, recovery, etc
some of those blocks can get corrupt, resulting in a similar "freeze" so when I say motherboard is fried it could just mean your emmc has corrupter blocks of memory
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
*sigh*
My 1st G1 froze exactly like that. I could touch the unlock slider, and it vibrated, but it froze the screen.
Recovery also froze at "Build:". Anything froze half a second after starting to render or at a touch. The only way I could temporarily fix it was to slide the screen into positions in the middle and place something there to hold it. But that didn't last long.
Later I got a new G1. But then I bricked it. So I took the motherboard from the old (freezing) one, and put it in the new one. I can assure you that it works beautifully and I am posting from it right now.

Then again, I don't want to be yelled at if it still doesn't work. :S
Also, the flex is hecka hard to replace. I don't recommend it. I say grab a new G1. They're really cheap. Or grab a new phone.
Sent from my Dream/Sapphire using Tapatalk
well I doubt you'll get banned from xda
they're cheap and if you even slightly mechanicaly inclined its not too bad, basically you'll need to strip the phone down almost completley to replace it, I've done this many times so my time frame maybe quicker than yours so id estimate an hour of your time to do it
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
If its anything like my magic you need the right screwdriver or you'll knacker the screws, plus you need a plastic wedge thing to pry apart things like the flex. Also make sure you don't loose any bits or forget where things go. For instance a tiny bent piece of plastic fell out and I carried on after I couldn't find it.....turns out it transfers the notification light from the back of the phone to the front. Could I find a replacement - no chance! Apart from all that its a breeze.

The G1 flex cable is in a really weird set up to allow the screen to slide out. Which is why I'm saying its gonna be hecka hard. You need to take apart the whole sliding mechanism.

Ok, I guess my fellow adventurer has just reached it's final state.
I don't think it had wanted to be repaired, we must leave it rest now.
Even tough replacing the cable might fix it, I don't think it's worth the trouble. It's probably time for me to get a device from this decenium.
Probably something with a good camera and good processing power.
Probably it's going to be a Galaxy Nexus that's going to replace the spot in my pocket, but nothing will replace the spot in my heart, where this phone will remain!
Anyway, thanks for the help, and insight in what might have been the problem.
well if your truly done with your g1 maybe consider a g2 (vision) it doesn't have as good of a keyboard as the g1 but has great specs for a phone that is two years old and still lots of development (fully working ics + jellybean almost to daily driver point) and they have gotten cheap on ebay, 100 range for a used one
also consider picking up another g1, it is the best backup phone possible and will probably always have developmet, I have a g2 but I use my g1 almost as much still

Hi,
I was using my phone HTC ONE S, and suddenly the 3 bottom buttons stopped working?
Iv tried a factory reset, holding all 3 for 5-10 seconds etc but nothing is happening, it lights up etc fine but no response what so ever.
anybody else have this issue?
unbelievable, after 4 factory resets and messing around, i install smart task-bar so i can actually use the phone . 20-30 mins into using it out of nowhere the soft-keys at the bottom kick bak into action, im so baffled
If I were you I would report this to HTC
Sent from my HTC Desire C using xda app-developers app
yh ill message them about it.
Do you guys reckon its a software or hardware problem?
madness, the problem reoccured, the Buttons work flawlessly, then suddenly will cut out, it makes no sense :S.
Ill contact HTC about it but if theres an easy solution which means me not going without a phone for a week while they repair, would be great :/
Does a restart fix the problem? If not I'd imagine it being a hardware fault.
But you could try to factory reset the thing and see if that helps.
Are you on stock rom/kernel or custom? rooted? recovery? Changed hboot or anything?
haven't rooted or anything, the factory reset doesn't work either , after a while it will just return to life until the next time they decide to become unresponsive.
Iv contacted HTC, but i expect replies to be slow over the xmas period
