Back! - Thunderbolt General

Well, I took back my Nexus and hooked up the ol' Thunderbolt again. I had 3g and 2 bars with the Nexus in the Verizon store. I walked out with 4 bars and 4g with the Thunderbolt.
The tech who did the switch over booted up the phone and was like, 'How'd you get that boot animation?' Then when it booted up he was a little lost and he was like, 'Wow...this is actually pretty fast...mind if I play with it a little?'
Then he found the 'Thundershed settings' and he was like, 'Wow...you can customize EVERYTHING?!'
Ha. Funny stuff.
Manager was a real douche about giving me the restocking fee, but I called VZW after I got back to work and they were nice enough to refund it back to my account.
At the end of the day...Thunderbolt FTW. The Nexus is AWESOME in EVERY way EXCEPT the reception is terrible (in comparrison).
Oh well..maybe in a few months there'll be something even better, eh? ;-)

Suks that Nexus has such a big antenna problem. I always assumed they figured out all that antenna stuff 10 years ago already. My old tiny cheap clamshell phone was pretty solid in terms of reception. Oh well.

Man I'm glad I read this I have been so close to pulling the trigger on the nexus but after reading so many things about horrible reception I think I will wait.

Gotta be a design flaw on Samsung's part cuz last year I had the nexus s 4g on Sprint and I was with like 1 bar 3g right next to my wife who had full bars 4g with her EVO
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA

Agreed with exact same phones me and my fiance would go thru Yakima and travel to Tacoma here in Washington I would sit fighting for 1 bar and she would have full bars.

4G LTE in Syracuse, NY

I spoke to a rep yesterday saying that Syracuse will be online with Verizon LTE by the end of June - about ten minutes ago I had 4G LTE signal with approx 10 Mb/s DL and 5 Mb/s UL. It lasted for about 5 minutes and then went back to 3G. My guess is they are going through final base-station/radio testing before turning it on.
I've been posting for the past 3 months about 4G being on once in a while in Syracuse.
Even had it in Watertown last week for 15 minutes.
Life is good, and is getting better!
4G in watertown...never thought that place would see 4g lol

My parents live outside of Binghamton and I when I go to visit I go through Albany. I think they need to show some love in the Southern Tier but Syracuse is getting very close. That being said, I want to get some towers up here in Maine but that isnt likely any time soon.
yeah I've been hearing June or July since winter so I'm hopeful... and it's nice to see others on here from Syracuse!
It popped on and off a few days ago in Syracuse.
Edit. Just repeating what op said. Didn't realize syr had this many.

I work near Downtown Syracuse and my 4G icon appeared again this morning, this time for a bit longer than it did earlier in the month. My business rep. did tell me LTE will be here by the end of summer (this was back in like February)... whenever I see "4G" pop up on my phone, I email her as she has a TBolt. She doesn't confirm anything, but does say that if I am getting LTE connectivity, that is a good sign that they are testing and the activation is coming soon!
I wonder how far out of Syracuse it will reach. I have family in Pennellville and Central Square.

Really? If I went to Verizon looking for the same plan features, I'd have to pay them 139.99 USD a month. I'm only paying T-Mobile 59.99 USD a month, that's less than half. This is why T-Mobile is awesome.

Agreed I pay $74.90 (after tax) unlimited everything (5gb data) if I went to big red I would pay $130 before tax for 450 mins unlimited data and text

With unlimited and 10 gigs of data I pay about $110 a month. I,myself, barley use 350 mins (mainly text). With the double data and 450 it comes out to be $120 for Verizon where I am at. I'll be happy to pay a few bucks more for their network and less dropped calls.

4G LTE

So how long did your area (City/Town) take to fully turn on your 4G? Reason I'm asking is because today all day I had 4G which I was shocked to see because I'm not in a 4G area. Obviously this means that they are testing it I would assume?

I'm over in Oregon and there is still no 4G i my area. From what I heard is that Verizon contracted a company to lay the cables and then they sub contracted it to Century Link. Well CL dropped the ball and now we have to wait even longer for 4G.

To answer my own question, the Nexus 5 is getting way better service than my Nexus 4. On wifi and on tmobile
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I actually had worse cellular radio performance out of my Nexus 5 compared to my Nexus 4 while using it yesterday. Inside my office, I'm pretty sure I was averaging fewer bars, and the N5 couldn't decide if it was going to connect to 2G, HSPA+, or LTE. Outside, it flipped between HSPA+ and LTE as I moved around (mostly driving, but a few times even walking around a parking lot).
So, I'm not sure if it's my particular N5, or N5s in general, but so far I'm not impressed with its cellular performance relative to my N4.
I'm getting better performance so far, which I'm glad about as I also had a pretty bad time with the Nexus 4 over other phones. The 5 isn't amazing, but it's alright and acceptable to me.
I'm getting generally worse reception, especially inside at work. Before with my N4 I got perfectly acceptable reception where I sat. Now with the N5 I literally get nothing.. nothing at all. It won't even give me a smidgen of reception. I have to walk towards the front of our building to get anything.
Anyone else experiencing something similar?
*edit*
So in a completely random way I turned data roaming on and off just for ****s and giggles and within 5 seconds of turning it off I all of a sudden had a full HSPA signal. ????? It appears to work flawlessly now.
My signal on the n4 jumped all over the place. It holds still full and I don't lose service now in a town I drive through. I get WiFi outside my house that can stream video when my n4 couldn't at all.

Overall, this seems to be the case for me as well. And I'm comparing for reception underground (basement level) where I work.
It's better then the Nexus 4, but I'm using it on CDMA and it's CDMA reception is less then the HTC EVO 4G by 1 bar.

It stood well the test of time. I've reclaimed the very first Android phone, myTouch 4G from my cousin. I gave him my Nexus 4.
Anyway, I compare the G2X, still solid and smooth. The myTouch is just slow painful to use. How times have changed.
The other day used G2X on skype and had multiple crashes and phone has become very sluggish at running more than 2 apps. This is on CM7. The display and colors are bright and deep black colors. In my opinion, its a great display.
My main is Nexus 5. Still my favorite phone.
Jumping ship and getting the nexus 5 as soon as I get a job.
