[Q] Problems upgrading OTA to 1.63 - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

I recently followed the instructions found at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508406&page=7
Running OTA 1.5 I was able to unlock and flash the su package in clockwork to grant SU privledges on my doubleshot. However, since the release of the 1.63 OTA, I've been unable to update my phone. I download the ~20MB file and am prompted to shut down to apply the update. When I shutdown my phone, clockwork loads up and informs me that my downloaded file fails it's verification signature.
I'm still very new to Android as this is my first smartphone, so I want to appologize in advance for asking such a noob question, but I'm unsure on how to proceed from this point and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time,

You cannot do an OTA upgrade if you are rooted, it will always fail (if you're lucky). If you want the 1.63.531.2 ROM benefits, there are some ROMS available, including the stock ROM with no tweaking (search the forum here) as well as the MikTouch 0.7 ROM which is the latest that has been deodexed and tweaked to run perfectly smooth. Check in the Development forum here.

Thank you for your reply. Flashing custom ROMs was my original intent when I unlocked this phone, but I wanted to get some use out of stock for a bit before I tred into deeper water. I will try flashing the ROMs you've suggested when I'm free from work, maybe give Bulletproof a whirl as I've read good things.
Thanks again for taking the time to answer my question.

While Bulletproof is a very decent ROM, it is based on the 1.28 release, not the newest 1.63.

FYI, I fixed it by removing the micro SD and putting it in my computer directly and placing the stock RUU from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952224
on the card. Replacing the card and restarting into the bootloader. It found the img automatically and returned the phone to stock. Only problem now is it isn't recognizing that the phone is rooted. on the bootloader screen it shows S-OFF but a root checker says I am not rooted. I assume I flashed back to a non-cooked version of the stock rom instead of the cooked version.

You are correct, running the RUU put you back to pretty much rock-stock; however, with S-OFF, you can root easily now (no downgrading, etc). S-OFF lets you remount the system partition read-write anytime you want and allows you to flash the recovery partition. To be properly rooted, you need a custom recovery like clockworkmod, and you need the superuser app to restrict access to your now wide-open and writable system partition.

One, this post should not be here it should be in general (that's why they need to simplify the forum names for new users and have a QA forum)
Two, yes you are correct, you flashed a non-rooted rom, but rom's do not effect s-off.
S-off/Radio S-off unlocks the bootloader allowing a different recovery like CWM and radio flashing, if that's wrong, please correct me.
You need a rooted rom, basically with the superuser app that allows writing to the system partitions when asked for. When an app or installation asked for root it asks that application, if your ROM doesn't have it, it fails.
Recommended ROMS:
Sense: Leedroid, Android Revolution (closest to stock visually), or Inspired Ace
Aosp:Gingerbeast definitely, greatest battery life i have ever tested, or Cyanogenmod.
On the otherhand if your not wanting s-off or root:
To get rid of S-Off (S-ON) you need to search this forum for the guide to s-off/completely stock as i don't know how to do it cause i have never tried. I think bubby's root method has an s-ON button but i wouldnt recommend it.

Thanks for the tips. Oh, and I'm not really a new user. Just new to Android. (Look at my join date Noob) lol
Also, to anyone reading this. I strongly suggest NOT downloading roms from anywhere but the Rom manager for flashing. That was my problem and as soon as I downloaded one from the RM it flashed perfectly. I've tried a couple different ones with complete success. I landed on the Inspired Ace rom only because I am still getting used to Android and wanted a close to stock environment.
Thanks and mods feel free to delete or close this thread if necessary.

That might be a great suggestion for noobs, but there is nothing wrong with flashing ROMs outside of ROM manager.
Not every ROM has ROM manager integration.
If you check the MD5 of your download, do the necessary wiping, etc., then you shouldn't run into problems.

I'm sure you are right. Boy it'd be nice if every rom had RM integration though huh? Sure simplifies things it seems.

I personally haven't had a prob flashing roms. Most of the post in the dev section have great install instructions. But Scott is right if you follow the instructions its a very simple 10 min process. But for the noobs yea rom manager would be much easier for them.

Unroot A510

Hi everyone.
First of all I must say I've searched in this forum before I decided to ask here but I haven't seen anything clear so please accept my apologies if this was already answered. Also my English is not really good.
So this is my question, How can I unroot my Iconia A510??? I need to send it back to the Official Service to be checked.
I used this method to root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531646
Thanks a lot
You have to flash a stock rom to achieve this. In the following post you can view any version of the stock ROM list. You should notice that not every version is available for download, though any of them should do the job:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27816722&postcount=2
After downloading one of the stock ROMS, rename the .zip file to update.zip, put it in the root of your A510 and then press the volume down button (with the 2 dots) and press the power on switch.
Thanks to nikagl
(Devvers, isn't it also possible to only keep a stock bootloader.blob in the update.zip and than flash it? Or will it only lock the bootloader? Or will it give an error (most likely)?)
Ey, thanks a lot for your fast reply!!
Unfortunately at the moment my A510 has this stock rom "Acer_AV041_A510_1.044.00_WW_GEN1" and it's not avaliable to download :-(
-Do you know If I install another rom it will work?
-Would I lose my guarantee if I change the rom?
-Could I install a lower version and then use the automatic update to go back to the current version?
Sorry for all these questions but I'm in a kind of a hurry trying to take my tablet to the after-sales TS.
Thanks again
The most popular method of rooting the A510 uses the A100 mempodroid exploit. To remove it, you can follow the A100 unrooting instructions in this post:
http://www.acertabletforum.com/foru...g-iconia-a100-made-easy-method.html#post28361
Note that for A510, I think busybox was placed in xbin while su was placed in bin. But the instructions should be pretty much similar.
If you also have custom recovery, it's more tricky to remove that.
Warning: Please make sure that you are using the mempodroid exploit.
You're welcome!
I have had that too with my A700, so I flashed a beta ROM instead. I sent it back with the beta ROM installed and just got a brand new one device back. You could ask on the forum here if anyone could upload the stock ROM "Acer_AV041_A510_1.044.00_WW_GEN1", but trust me, you're lucky if someone will take the time to do that.
Now to answer your questions:
- Yes. It works.
- They're probably not going to even check if you're rooted or having another ROM installed. If unlocking the bootloader voids warranty, then yes. Are they able to see if you've ever unlocked the bootloader, most likely not.
- Depends. If an update has been released by Acer, then yes. If not, then no. But probably not.
You could also try the method mentioned by the user above me (I'm having an A700, so I'm not that familair with the rooting methods with the A510. My apologies.).
Edit:
By the way, flashing a new ROM will of course remove all of your files and settings, so beware.

[Q] A700 rooting question

Hi guys,
I've searched everywhere and can't get a definitive answer on this so here goes -
I'm a noob when it comes to Android, having recently defected from being an Apple Disciple (I got hacked off with iTunes and bored in general with the Daycare Centre which is iOS) and have recently acquired an Acer A700 tablet.
I have installed the JB update OTA and everything is working fine and am chomping at the bit to get it booted, but most of the posts I have read regarding unlocking the bootloader and rooting it relate to ICS.
My questions are -
Does the bootloader process apply regardless of Firmware? (Are there different versions for different Firmwares)
Can anyone point me in the direction of a decent tutorial on how to do this?
What happens regarding a future update? Do I have to revert back to stock and update from there or can i jump from one ROM to another? (I'm assuming that I can't use the OTA updates any more)
Sorry for the long OP and thanks in advance for your answers.

No problem. Seeing you are on JB, then you have a JB bootloader.
You need to go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953917
And download Vorbeths easyroot2.0. It's for the 700.
You have to unlock your bootloader first, which shouldn't be an issue for you. Easy instructions for that.
Then download his package to a folder on your PC. (not sure, but you may have to download each file individually) Open a command window (shift & right mouse click) and type in whatever his instructions say. Should be painless.
Make sure USB Debugging is turned on first in your tablet (Settings/Developer Options/USB Debugging), and make sure you have the Acer Drivers installed on your PC.
Then connect, wait 30 seconds, and run his batch file.
You should be ok.
MD
Oh yes, one more thing, once you unlock your bootloader, chances are you will not be able to get OTA. And the only way to re-lock the bootloader is to install a stock rom.
Thanks!
Thanks for the reply. I am now the owner of a fully rooted A700!
Had a few issues during unlocking the bootloader. That thing timeouts quick! Also, didn't realise you had to run the .bat file while the tablet was on the Bootloader USB protocol screen. I thought you had to wait until it booted fully into JB.
Anyway, took the plunge and thanks again for your help.

No problem. I thought I mentioned it timed out in about 5 seconds These days I don't remember much
Yeah, I haven't looked at Vorbeth's script, so I don't know which screen he launches it from. With mine for the 701, you can be when the tab is running normal. No difference in the end result though
Happy Hunting!

One last question - do I have to install Clockwork Recovery for re-flashing the stock images or is it just a case of renaming it update. zip and putting it on an SD Card? Any chance you can point me in the right direction of the most recent/stable build? Is it easy to install?
Thanks again.

Well, this is a trouble spot.
If you wish to install a custom rom, then you will need to install CWM. The most recent version.
If you want to try your luck at installing a stock rom, my opinion, is to leave the stock recovery inplace. I haven't had luck in installing stock update.zips, as Acer has made them very specific. So I can't be much help to you in that.
However, you can always flash back to CWM or a stock JB recovery pretty easy. Personally, unless you plan on flashing a custom, I would just leave the stock recovery.
MD
Sometimes "leaked" update appear here in the forums. They are unofficial. And you never know if they improve things, or make things worse. So be careful.

So, just for future reference, how would I go about re-flashing the stock image? I'm assuming it's saved on the tablet in a separate partition?
I've decided to stick with the stock rooted ROM but would like to know how to re-flash for when Key Lime Pie and future updates are released.
And, seeing as how you haven't steered me wrong so far, I though I'd pick your brains one last time.
Hope you don't mind!

[Q] Rooted, 4.4.3 = Error?

Sorry if I am no expert. But I rooted my phone on 4.4.2, today I got the 4.4.3 update, so I downloaded it. I use SuperSU, so I turned on the survival mode, which was meant to keep my phone rooted through the update.
I run stock rom with franco kernel. Now from what I understand, I can install OTA's but that usually would overwrite the root privileges and stuff. Anyways, so I turned on survival mode on SuperSU and ran the update. I was installing, and then got the Error Android icon, the phone eventually started back up after few minutes of that screen.
When I check my root access it's still there, however, under the version of the system it's still 4.4.2 and I don't see anymore updates.
Sorry if I am new to this, but can someone explain rather or not the update pushed through, if not is my system currently messed up in anyways? And what should I do from here in order to get 4.4.3 kitkat.
Thanks!

Your answer can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/info-nexus-5-ota-help-desk-t2523217. It is a Stickied Thread in the General section. No worries. :good: You'd be surprised how many times I've done a search and realized there were plenty of other people that had been in the same exact type of sticky situation I had been in at the time. You can definitely learn a lot from the stickies. That's how I learned all the basics about ADB and Fastboot, which is why I prefer to flash everything manually instead of using toolkits. There are some pretty knowledgeable people roaming these here forums.
Welcome to XDA!

Urgent problem with ota update 5.0

HI was downloading the new update 5.0 but it stopped and now the tablet says me "your system is updated" but with the 6.0.1.I can't restart the download now, what i have to do???
Same thing happened to me. Don't know why yet.
Same here. Where are you from?
Nvidia might have pulled it to fix something wait patiently it will come.
I had a similar problem as well. I got the notification to download the update, and when I clicked on the "Download" button in the notification, it did nothing. When I went into my settings and opened the OTA updater, it kept telling me that "Your system is up to date," even after repeatedly pressing the "Check Now" button, selecting "Clear data," rebooting, and messing with the advanced settings. I hope they fix this soon, I was really excited about this update!
Exact same issue here.
If you haven't root/twrp etc:
Download from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tablet/general/5-0-update-nougat-incoming-t3553612/page2 (there are two version - k1 & standard).
Paste it to internal memory, boot into recovery and apply update from zip.
Just wait a little. That's what NVIDIA calls "staggered rollout".
Just wanted to update and say that I got my OTA this morning and will apply it later this afternoon. Guess, just as suggested earlier, they staggered them. It's strange though that they actually pulled it back, but then again it might have been an issue with it.
if you have "nougat launcher apk" just delete it.
Been a while since I rooted mine and I'd prefer not to lose root. Anyone know if there's going to be a pre-rooted version available that won't require going through the whole process again? Honestly I don't recall if it was difficult or not but I know for previous phones I've had there was a rooted version of the OTA that someone would post within a day or two of the release. Made the whole update process quicker and easier.
Also, for those who have updated, how is the performance compared to Marshmallow?
My 2 cents: if the root is confirmed to work, there is no "process" per se.
D/L the root zip to the tablet, boot into recovery, flash that zip and reboot into system.
Should be within 2-3 min the whole thing.

Performance feels good so far. Don't know if there will be a pre-rooted version, but it's fairly simple and fast to root since your bootloader is unlocked and you'll get to keep all your data. If you want custom recovery I had to use the TWRP app after root to flash the recovery. Couldn't get it to stick using fastboot. There's a good rooting guide here:

Thanks for the info and the guide link. If I'm rooted can I let the update to nougat proceed and then just follow the procedure in the link? Thought I read somewhere that I need to unroot it first.

Yes you can just apply the update and there's no need to flash stock first. If you want to flash TWRP I would recommend getting root first by sideloading (like in the guide) and then using the TWRP app to flash TWRP.
I'm now rooted again with TWRP as custom recovery.
