Both are 8mpx, but my friend with the Thunderbolt is showing me pics in person, and sending me pics via MMS, and even those are making my pics look terrible.
I'm using the HD Camera apk snagged from the One S, but even on the stock camera apk, my pics can't even compare to the Thunderbolt's pics.
Why is this?
I would assume its along the lines of "Because the camera's not that good."
I know its not a great answer, but I'm not gonna make excuses for HTC. Sometimes this phone takes great pictures, other times, they're just bland and noisy.
I think the Thunderbolt and Sensation have the same sensor.

Is it possible for you to post a few examples?

I am coming from a Vibrant and although by the time I bought this phone the Vibrant was laggy, GPS was hit and miss, and allot of apps would force close, it still had a very good camera. I don't understand why this camera at 5mp takes such poor pics. I have a very good camera but sometimes I do forget it, it's too heavy, or I don't charge it so having a nice camera on the phone would be beneficial. Anyone know how to fix this problem?

You really think the camera is bad? Seems better than the hd2 I had. Have you blown them up on a computer and looked at them or are you just going off the phone? Maybe im just easy to please its really fast and works pretty well

No I haven't blown them up I just zoom in from the phone itself. I take the same pic with my husbands iPhone4 zoom in and it is still crisp and clear, with my phone it is very pixelated.

I saw another post around here discussing this, and in it someone said to change... from widescreen to 4:3? I believe..? I don't have the phone yet so can't look in the phone for ya. It's here in the forum tho.
I think the pictures are pretty good. Here are a few I took a couple of days ago:
Speaking of "pop"... Those reds look really nice and deep. Nice choice of images.

Strange. I started the other thread because mine were NOT so good. There are limited settings in the default camera, and I have set mine to the highest resolution and do not see any other adjustments in the setting menu.
At the wide mode, my files were only .6 - 1.2 mb (compressed I am sure). Yours are 3 mb - and much better quality - are you using the OEM camera?
I get MUCH better shots using the 360 Camera app - but not when using the stock camera app. If you are using the stock camera app - is there a setting I have missed?
I vaguely remember a post that said the camera is not set to 5MP by default. You have to set it to 5MP within the settings.

I set it to 5MP first thing - so-so pictures followed.
I use Camera 360. The uncompressed images look far better than when using the stock camera app.
It's unfortunate that the stock camera app doesn't allow manual compression settings. But that's why we have developers.
stock camera compresses the s out of the shots.
Go vigenette or camera 360 (all these were taken using either of the 2)

heh, I could have been in any of those pics. I was at Don's Bogam BBQ the other day (down the st from pic #3), playing with my new MT4G at dinner.
Does anyone know if the camera is actually that different from the sensations or is it just a different camera app?

Couple diff lines in the script for the no shot delay, and the panorama shot. The camera has been somewhat ported over in our apps section. Some people report it working, others can't get it to work.

The slide has a better hardware camera. It has a f2.2 aperture lens. Basically it can let in more light. HTC says its the best camera ever on a phone which I say is BS. They probably forgot about Nokia's Lenses. They make the best camera phones.
Hi all,
Got a slight issue here, not sure if i'm not doing it right but i have tried all kinds of settings and nothing worked.
Anyway, heres what happened...... A butterfly flew into our work and was bugging everyone pretty much all day it eventually landed pretty much right next to me and i wanted to test out the macro on this phone, so i switched to close up and attempted to take a picture but it just came out all blurry, so i changed to different combinations of settings, always getting the same results, it kept focusing past perfection to blurriness??
Either way it was really annoying, I don't actually give a **** about butterflies i just wanted to be able to take a pic up close?
I'm running coredroid at the moment however i believe the camera is the native Sensation one. ??
Any ideas?
I notice that too. It focuses amazingly, and then instantly goes blurry. You have to be a couple of inches away before the macro works.

Is there a decent guide for the sensation camera? I find this to be worse than the desire hd. E.g. if I take a picture of my dog with flash his eyes are always glowing (flash reflection) on the sensation, but never on the desire hd

The camera is good enough for a phone. Buy something dedicated for that kind of work. And never use flash for making pictures, ever.

Poor close up photographs is a general photography issue. Having trouble avoiding blurry photos up close goes for any type of photography when you're taking shots handheld. That said, I just tried the close-up setting on a wireless mouse and a pen, and at about 4 inches away I'm getting clear shots even though I'm in low light right now.

But my point is flash works great on the desire hd and it's shocking on the sensation. That's not how it should be!

You obviously don't know anything about photography. Flash is absolutely needed in cases where there is insufficient lighting. Otherwise the output will lack detail and be noisy. If the direct flash is too intense, you can always use a reflective surface to produce a softer lighting.
Are you using the macro setting for the camera?
Hi guys
I used to have SGS i9000 before i bought SGS 4G. I love our incredible ROMs and I've managed to do things I didn't do with the i9000.
One thing that is always the same on all ROMs i tried here is the poor camera results.
On the i9000 I videotaped a concert in the dark on HD and the result was crispy HD video regardless of the lack of flash.
I also took good quality still images on the spot.
On the SGS 4G on all ROMs i get louzy unfocused blured videos and it takes ages to take a poor still image.
This is unclear since both models have the same 5MP camera.
My wife's SGS 4G is the same as mine, so it's not a specific phone problem.
I'd be glad to hear and read your insights regarding this issue. I know dsexton did some camera tweaking but i haven't tried it. I'm on Valhalla final now.
Thanks.

My camera is pretty good at taking still pictures, video quality on the other hand is kinda iffy. In my opinion, our camera is somewhat better than most 5MP cameras out there. Then again, it's just my opinion.

Mine works well for both still pictures & video. low light sucks due to lack of a flash but otherwise I can't complain.

I am on Octane-V3.0 XPLOD and the tweaks worked for me on the rom.
Ok so i switched over to the One X from the Galaxy S3 for 4 main reasons, 1. When HTC finally is up to date with the source codes, this phone can most likely beat the S3, 2. The screen shows colors and looks a lot better, 3. The build quality over the S3, and 4. The camera. But after some use the camera isnt all that i was expecting unless im missing something, to me the camera doesnt seem as good as the comparison pictures and the pictures i havet taken with the S3 and One X. Any ideas on how to improve the camera capture quality?
Reduce saturation levels by -1.
Otherwise, pink seems like vibrant red and distorts a lot of colors.

For best quality use a custom ROM with the HQ camera mods that disable compression on the jpg and up the bit rate on the video.

This will not fix the pathetic default color settings nor will it fix the incorrect calibration of the preset white balance options. I must say that as nice a phone as the hox is the camera is a rather disgraceful dud and an egg in their face. As pointed out earlier reducing saturation by -1 take the state of the camera from useless (skin looks like cooked shrimp) to merely atrocious. HTC really needs to fix that pronto, and the problem is somewhere in the demosaicing and color conversion algorithms.
I love the camera on the One X.
