Why is the video (flash) quality so crappy??? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I have the One X for about 2 weeks now, and my main complain is the video (flash).
I have tried pretty much every browser that is available for this device and the results are the same (pixelated, slow, etc.) I've tried on Wi-Fi and LTE, and both connections are excellent (It drops once in a while, but that's a different topic), but the video still look like crap.
I have the international version of the Samsung Galaxy Note, and it plays video flawlessly (even on 3G).
Please tell me that I'm not only one experiencing this. This is my second one, I have return my previous one for a completely different reason, but I believe the video playback on the first one is the same.
Any explanation for this, or any settings I need to change to make this bearable? I'm really not happy with this phone overall.
Thank you in advance.

i dont have this problem i guess it depends on how the video was uploaded

Works fine with my phone. Depends on site / browser. Some are better than others.

Thanks for the replies guys.
When you guys says, "fine". Can you please elaborate. I mean is it smooth, HD quality.
Can you guys go espn.com, and play some of the videos. Dolphin doesn't even play the videos, Stock browser plays, but pixelated (especially fast paced - basketball, etc.), ICS+ plays, but still the quality is not that great. Opera is the same thing.
I can run the Galaxy note side by side with the One X, and the Note, not only load fastest, the quality is great. It might get a hiccup once in a while, but it keeps the quality of the video at a very good quality.
Thank you.

pm me the video you are trying to watch and i can test it

what browser are you using thats messing up? or browsers? What site ect. no pron please tho.

Same for me, I get these weird black and white pixels when watching flash videos on stock browser. It also happens when I watch movies that are software decoded with mx player. Certain videos seem fine, like the ones on youtube.

I've got the same issue. Dunno if it's hardware related though.
I can go to Video or YouTube and they all play fine.
On other sites I get stuttering and population issues.
Maybe it's the flash that's not decoding correctly? Or crud its the processor fubaring?
Meh either way still a ton nicer than my old.Captivate

[Q] Youtube HQ not really "HQ", why?

So I don't know why but for some odd reason in the youtube app, if HQ is highlighted the audio quality is still feeble, where youre still able to hear grainy audio and "pixel shifting" images.
However when I go to the youtube website in the browser and play an HD video there the audio quality is completely flawless. It's pretty much desktop quality at 480,720 and 1080. Granted the videos wont play well ( expected) but the audio is surreal compared to the app.
I want to know why this is happening. Alot of people havnt been this specific when it came to youtube video qualities but youll find the rare thread that speaks of this exact problem.
Im using the Nexus One and the latest OS. 2.3.4.
When using tubemate, it downloads the grainy version of the video as opposed to the real HQ seen on the website. How do i go around this. Essentially I want to rip the songs from HD versions so I can play it in the car without wasting bandwidth going from one video to another.
When the app says HQ, what is it really talking about. Its nowehere near 480p to the very least. The degradation in the audio quality is noticable both in my car and akg headphones, where my unrestricted 3gs never had this problem. I miss that phone to death.
Well, it's all really a matter of terminology..
HQ stands for High Quality
HD stands for High Definition
While HD is a written standard with rules and guide lines that are needed to be followed, HQ is merely a relative thing. I can say that HQ is 420p cuz in MY service, I also have 180p which I decide to call LQ (L for low) and 320p which I consider as the medium or "normal" quality.
And thus I can also say that HD is like VHQ (Very High Quality) or something.
Hope it's clear enough.

The YouTube app doesn't use flash video at all, unlike most browsers do...The app uses html5 encoding, and that's why it works on pretty much every Android device out there...When you watch YouTube vids on their website, (not the mobile website), you are able to utilize your most recent, best optimized version of Adobe flash....Also why Apple people can use a YouTube app...don't need flash. (Actually a little surprised that Apple HAS a YouTube app, but, after all, the driving force for Google is ad revenue, and I guess the money from all those iphoners couldn't be passed up...)

[Q] Video Conversion?

I would like to ask if anyone has converted a dvd over to there Sensation, if so...What program/settings etc did you use, and which format?...I accomplished this with DVD fab, and used the Generic setting at a resolution of 704x398..the video quality was excellent....but playback was a little laggy...but still pretty impressed overall....sounds great plugged in to a nice car stereo......I'm wondering how to get a better smoother playback...and can I get a better resolution?..I know this phone has a 900 x500(rounded numbers here) resolution, but maybe someone has a better program, or something?????
I never convert videos when i put them on mine.
It can easily play full HD videos without lag. Try something like MoboPlayer from the market
there has to be some form of conversion to get them off of a dvd to your phone....????

[Q] Sending my TF back :(

Well, had the thing for a few weeks, and I just can't find a reason to keep it. I wanted to stream videos from the net - but I can't as it stutters and doesn't play 720p smoothly at all (Not Youtube), and the amount of tablet software is pretty woeful to be honest.
Unless someone can persuade me to keep it, I will have to say byebye... and I am quite sad about that
And no... I'm not getting an iPad either
Do some searching, this question comes up all the time.
My 2 cents is that if you want a table for playing videos the iPad2 is your best choice.
You will have to wait but for video the archos tabs seem to be really good and they are easily unlockable. The next generation is gonna be released soon and the specs look good.

Have you updated to latest firmware?
720p works fine. Mkv with ac3 audio won't play audio in stock player but will in moboplayer or dice player.

I am not disparaging the ipad, it is a very well built device that IF it does what you want is a great choice, however you're recommending it for 720p playback when it doesn't even have a 720p display.
I don't want an iPad mainly due to lack of Flash - I have various sites I use with flash video streaming and the TF simply cannot play any of them - and I have rooted and tried Revolver 2.1.2, which is great - but makes no difference to flash videos.
MKV video plays fine btw - that's not what I was after
I'm thinking the next gen of tablets may be worth waiting for - the current crop simply are not up to the task - and simply seem to be made to contend with the iPad 2 - which isn't exactly a great choice anyway.
mine streams fine, better than my ipad, i watch tv shows and films no problem over wifi, even on a slow 1mb connection, try istreamnet.net and see if they stream using the standard player.

if what you are having an issue with is flash video then I would suggest installing the hack that enables hardware acceleration. A quick search will turn it up. Flash is pig, it's nice to have support for it but flash is really suited only for real PCs and it will never be a real priority for tablets.

Does the One XL have low fps & video stutter like the One X

Hi.
I own a One x (not the XL), and have been really disappointed with the stuttering video (happens at both 1080p and 720p), ie its not smooth, drops the odd frame, but what bugs the crap out of me is the low fps, Max in full brightness is 24fps, but usually drops to 20, and if indoors or low light can be worse..
Have read the one XL doesnt have this issue.
Can anyone confirm, what FPS does the OneXL do for video, (ie is it solid 24fps) or 29/30fps? also does it drop fps in low light, an also does it have stutter like the international One X?
Thinking of getting a One XL for my wife but only if the video camera works properly as the one x is a real disappointment in this area - should be fixable with software but when is the question...
Anyone? surely someone has taken a video on the One XL? Does it suffer the same problems as the international One X?
I play 1080p movies all the time both with hardware decoding and software decoding all the time and it runs flawlessly.
The stuttering is throughout all one x variances and this is due to image stabilization I found. Disable it and see the video become smoother with no hiccups.

You could also try the HQ Camera for ICS Mod, it should work on any Sense 4 device (Just make sure you download the correct one). I have it on mine although I haven't tested it yet myself. Others seem to have good results though.

I'm definitely having the same problems. Here is what I experience:
Youtube playback: stutters/clips/pops on most video's. It happens sporadically but on most videos. It's unbearable!!
Other websites via HTC's 'internet': eg bing videos. It pops about ones a video.
1080p playback of transfer on device video: Audio and Video are not in sync. It sometimes stutters and pops. not as much as youtube
Music player: the old pop.
The shutter or pop i am experiencing make me regret buying the HTC One X. I thought breaking out of Apple-jail would be a good idea but to be honest my old iphone 4 coped with everything i throw at it.
Can anyone help!!!!!?????:crying:

Simple question… but not seeing the answer here!
I have a htc one xl. It doesn't drop frames but, bizarrely, the frame rate it captures at is apparently 26.441 (?!)
Maybe it looks poor when uploaded to youtube because of the conversion from very rare 26.441 to 30/25. And maybe it jumps on your computer because the 1080 files are too big to play smoothly (as on mine).
I import my footage to premier pro to edit, and when I've exported in youtube friendly specs there are no problems playing it at all.
Hope this helps - I had to get screamed at by the noob video to register and reply!

I Have HTC One XL And I Dont Recommend This Phone To Those Who Watch HD Videos Or Record HD Videos
I am On Official Sense 5 4.2.2 Stock And Not Rooted
It Records Full HD At Sometimes 26 fps Sometimes 30 fps
It Cant Play Even A Single HD Video Without Lag And Framedrop Even With Alternatives Like Mx Player And VLC
Even My Previous S2 Played Every Video Fine
#Dissapointed
That's your personal experience, you could just have a dodgy phone. I would recommend this device to anyone, I have zero problems watching or recording video.

[Q] slightly blurry youtube hd videos

just got my nexus 5 last night.
i am having issues with youtube hd video playback being very slightly pixelated. i have a feeling its a problem with either youtube app itself, or my network but i cant seem to find out why it may be like this. i am currently pulling down about 17.67 mbps on my Wi-Fi, however last night i was pulling down 34mbps and i still had the problem. i downloaded some 1080p videos i shotwith my nokia lumia 928 and they played fine, everything was sharp and clear as it should be.
has anyone else encountered this issue, im not having pixelation in any other apps which why i believe it is you tube that is giving me the problem, how ever my girlfriend has a note3 (1080p display as well) and hers looks clear maybe im missing something in settings?
ps. i have never had any other issues with the youtube app how ever this is the only 1080p device i have other than my tv and girlfriends note 3, is it a resolution problem?

i did noticed that but while using chromes you-tube embedded videos. Not sure if its possible to fix. Videos look like standard def regardless if you are on 3g or wifi
Did you go to settings and select stream HD over network

Yes I did, in fact it was enabled by default so I toggled it. And I've yet to watch a video over network its all been on WiFi, its very evident in videos where there are subtitles OE small text on the screen
Whenever I've watched HD videos in the Youtube app on my N5, the clarity has been pretty amazing (unless the original video sucked, then it will always be horrible).
I've noticed that most (if not all) videos on youtube play back in 720p when you choose "HD". So yes, they will look worse on this phone than a 720p phone because they will be stretched out to fit the screen. I don't know if this is a limitation of the app itself or if all the videos I'm watching just happen to be 720p?
There is something wrong with the youtube app. When using viral pro the quality is a lot better.
