sorry for the delay...i mean do you have superuser or supersu installed correctly to obtain root on your phone? basically you need what is called "root access" to use root explorer. check the forum of the device you are using to find a guide to root or unlock ur device.
Ohh, Okay I do have super user and have access. I was able to change my reboot animation, however, was unable to change any sound animations. Can you please explain to me step by step. Again I was able to change the boot animation when it starts up but no sound. Thank you
ok lets see if i can help more...try putting the android_audio.mp3 file in the same folder as the boot animation. make sure you have read/write turned on in root explorer or it wont stick. it has to be called android_audio.mp3 or it won't work. and make sure your volume is turned up before you shut down ur phone. if that doesnt work you are going to have to find out if the rom you are using supports boot animation sounds. pm me if you need more assistance.
Thank for all the help, I did try that and did not work..ugggg,
the rom I am using is this " [15.May.2012] NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA V2.1 (Kernel: tytung_HWA_r2.3-uniMAC)." Please give some more information it's driving me crazy.. lol
Not work

Ive seen a few threads about boot animations, but none of them with a simple yet detailed guide on how to install/get a new boon animation to work on my Xperia x10 2.1.
I'm no computer genius, but I'm no new to computer either, if someone could point me in the right directions I would love it, Thread I didn't find, a PM or a reply, thanks.
i just use root explorer to copy/paste the file and then set its permissions before rebooting. Just did it and it worked fine on my rooted 2.1 x10a

I got root explorer, I took the bootanimation.zip, ive made my own images, ive re ziped it, put it on my SD card and im trying to copy/replace the current bootanimation.zip in System/Media but its just not working :/
I post a working custom boot logo here maybe if you look at it you know wat you did wrong
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=832315&page=2
Want to change your boot animation, but dont wanna mess with ADB?
Download the desired bootanimation.zip
Put on root of SD.
Rename chosen boot animation to bootanimation.zip
Open up Root Explorer, navigate to root of SD long press the bootanimation.zip file, and select move
Navigate to /system/customize/resource
Click Mount R/W
Click paste, and overwrite the existing file.
Reboot.
**NOTE: you may want to back up the existing boot animation first, in case you dont dig the new one**
I can only verify that this will work with the HTC EVO. Im not responsible if you accidentally mess up your phone.
The directories may not be the same for every rom...
How do I get this to work on the CMod7 RC2, I go to file manager system/media and I see the bootanimation.zip file but it wont let me delete or move it...Any ideas?
The built in file manager for cm7 does not mount the system partitions as R/W which is required. I actually have not found a single file manager that *CAN* mount cm7 system partitions as R/W.
I tried Root File Explorer, ES File Explorer and Root System Explorer. All 3 crash the phone when attempting to mount the system as R/W
I used Root Explorer running CM7 Rc2 on my EVO to change my boot animation and it we worked fine.

DONE
Download the zip file to the custom screen animation you want to use to your memory card. Boot up into clockwork recovery. Go to install from sdcard then choose files from sdcard. Navigate to the file u want to use then install it. The next time you boot the phone normally it should show you your new screen animation. Atleast that's how I do it with my rooted epic 4g using clockwork recovery

sorry but no clockwork recovery is made for my device i installed it once an resulted i hard brick.Had to go to samsung service center and they replaced the motherboard cause it was in warranty.I will never try that method again

Use adb push or a file explorer with root to place the bootanimation.zip (from my attachment) in the folder "/system/media" it is the animation from your first youtube link.
If it says something like cannot write, read only permission, you have to type this into a console on the phone or in the adb shell first
"mount -w -o remount /system /system\n"
The boot animation is safe, it either shows, or it doesn't.

Yes dont extract just copy it there.
Either your phone supports this and shows the new animation.
If it doesn't support it nothing happens and you see the old animation.
Nothing can really happen. The old animation is still there.
If it is supported your phone will look at that directory and say ahhh a bootanimation.zip lets use that instead of the default one...

Could I get that boot animation file off you. I tried the boot animation changer app. Says downloaded and installed but alas I get nothing.

If I deleted the sounds off of the phone, I'd get some weird side effects... the startup would play some random sound, and the shutdown would end up rebooting instead of shutting down, so I made mp3's with just silence. They are attached below.
the two paths are:
/hidden/data/Power-on sound/VMU_Power_up.mp3
/system/media/audio/ui/VMU_Power_Down_48_24.mp3
For those not inclined to mess with system files, you can also download Silent Boot from the Market. Not at all trying to offend OP, thank you for sharing this

ive never tried silent boot since i heard it doesnt work for shutdown... or there was some trick with silencing your phone first before shutting down then turning the ringer back on when you boot back up
What the Silent Boot app does is just turn the phone to silent mode when you turn it off, and then turns off silent mode once you boot into Android again. This works fine, unless you do not shutdown properly (phone freezes, battery pulled), in which case the sounds will still play.
Thanks for this. Worked great.
Thanks for this! Now i can use my phone is silence... ahh.
On the same note, can we delete or alter the power up and power off animation too?
EDIT:
Actually, the start-up sound is still there, while the shut down is silent. What could be wrong? I've put everything in the correct place.
Did you just rename the old files .old? I did this and it still played my start up sound. Once I moved the .old file elsewhere, it no longer played the sounds.
Thanks. Moving the old file did the trick. Now its truly silent.

Ok so using ES File Explorer with root enabled I was able to replace shutdown. But when I try to replace startup sound it fails. What more can I do.
I've used ES file explorer
Read-only file system
When I try to do anything with /system/media/audio/ui/VMU_Power_Down_48_24.mp3 It says failed, Read-only file system.
Do I have the correct directory?
I had no problems using Root Explorer
I used ES File Explorer and it worked after I created a subdirectory /old and moved the original file there. Oddly, with the original file in the original location, even with a change of file type from mp3 to bak, it was still being read at startup, even with the replacement mp3 file in the same directory. I had to move the bak file to a subdirectory to keep it from playing.
Thanks for making the files!! Silence is bliss!

I just overwrote it - AFTER saving the originals into a directory on my SD card in case I wanted them back at some point in the future.
Used ES file explorer in root mode, mounted the system directories writeable - no problems.
I've been always planning to change boot animation because i have get rid from the classical miui bored boot animation once i'll get root access and install a new rom...
Well that's what i did i installed corvus os and got the root access and i searched for boot animation directory wich should be root/system/media and i was surprised that i couldn't find it . is there another directory or method for customizing the boot animation ? An answer would be great
It is in system/media for me (running ArrowOS).
Are you sure you've given your file explorer app proper root access?

And where is the media directory in the end?
In my case -- under official LOS 19.1 -- it's in /system/product/media...
