NFC apps - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Anyone now some good NFC apps for the one x?
I cant seem to find the androidbeam.apk file either.
This device has NFC, but what can i do with it??

Afaik, you can't do anything with it. At least not with the AT&T version. It's not enabled yet.
Sent from my HTC One X

not even the android beam feature enable in the settings?
on well,
someone got it working on the samsung note from ATT (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1545751&highlight=nfc), so im sure they will figure it out on this one. AT&T really knows how to make a phone better.

NFC on the phone is kinda cool. My wife and I both bought HTC One Xs, and I can send her web pages/apps/etc via NFC.

Ah, I was thinking about the wallet apps. Apparently they're waiting to develop a competing product. Beam works I think.

Right. Wallet is galaxy nexus only, for now.

I use NFC Task Manager.
I can set my phone to automatically manage Bluetooth for my trip to work:
I also have my kitchen set up to set easy timers:

mind. blown.
Wow. I am about to order like 500 of these things and set what I can come up with this definitely sounds like a very fun summer project. Cannot wait to get started.

I did see that you can use the NFC with PayPal to request $$ but that's about it.

Which specific tags have you guys bought. I noticed on some of the sites that there are some tags that may not be compatible with our NFC frequencies.

AutomateIt
Hi,
The latest version of AutomateIt (released today) also supports NFC.
You can use it as any other trigger.

Smart Phones that aren't Smart

I looked around here and didn't see any threads like this one so I made a new one.
My friend just got a Samsung T528G smart phone. It is a straight talk phone. I don't think it can be done but does anyone know if you can use the phone as a modem for a PC to have an internet connection? Or even turn the WIFI feature into a hotspot?

I've done some digging on this very same phone because I'm trying to figure out how to side load "java" apps on the insanely greedy TouchWiz OS. You can tether the phone, but its "locked" out because StraightTalk does not want you doing this. I have not actually read up on it yet, as I'm still trying unlock, and sideload mode; but apparently its against the end user agreement to tether. Thank goodness my wife hates her T528G and we'll be getting her an Android phone as soon as possible. I came to XDA to see if there was any cool tricks I could do with the T528G myself, in all fairness to the phone, it does what its supposed to do, and is intended to be an entry level "smart phone".

My brother and I are working on putting Android on an HTC Kieser to get my wife of the 528... I dislike the Windows mobile, and I don't like working with it, that is why we're trying to put Android on it. I know it can be done, has been done.

If you did manage to get Android on it, it would likely be so slow, you wouldn't want to use it anyway.

Google wallet NOW available in market!

I have found and installed Google wallet on my skyrocket I727. I'm on the AT&T network and had my simcard in.
The device has been rooted, and that may be the reason that it doesn't work yet, judging by the comments in the market.
Just one more nudge and we're in
we really have to wait until ATT and Samsung say go. We have NFC disabled by default.

I turned on NFC (non stock Rom), that didn't fix the issue. I hope a dev Can help coax it out of its shell.
A word of warning though, I've read that an uninitialized wallet will drain the battery.
So freeze the app if you can, cause you never know if it will be pulled from the market.
Dev already tried this and we need Secure Element that we don't have in Rocket!! Att might give us Sim card with that Secure Element!!!!!!

The Wallet app needs a certain permission that can only be obtained if both it and the Nfc app are signed with the Google key. The Nfc app is not signed by Google on our phone, so you get this error about insufficient privileges. That's why its only for Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S owners.

This too. Even if you did sign them both with the same key, which I have done, the app will never initialize. This is because there is no SecureElement in our phone. Again, only the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S have them in American phones. AT&T / Verizon / T-Mobile plan to release SIM cards with SecureElements in them once ISIS is underway.
You cant do anything with it. Currently only the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus support Google Wallet. There is no way around this.
Also, wrong section. This belongs in general.
Cool.

Please follow the XDA Forum Rules!!

Oops
My mistake.
Back to the development in the non development topic,
Thanks for the sim card point. It turns out AT&T is all for the idea

Thanks!

I like the idea and the UI a lot with one exception: the 'Edit Savings Plan' screenshot displays both icons ('Accept' and 'Cancel') on a hard-to-read, definitely 'do not click here!' red background.
Also, both icons seem to "weigh" the same, when one of them ('Accept') should be a call to action type (you can create subtle call to action buttons by increasing their contrast)

Ask for Default Application Each Use

Is there any way whatsoever to make it ask me what default app I want to choose each time. As in, the old Just Once/Alway complete action dialog?
I've tried Complete Action Plus. Doesn't seem to have any effect.

I just came across something last night that's a decent workaround for most things.
Better Open With (sorry, no link; new member) prompts you with it's own UI, which is still pretty intuitive. It works by having you set the default application for each intent it supports (which isn't a lot, but it's most) to itself. Then, when you open something, it will bring up it's own dialog box that's pretty similar to the old style.
It doesn't have as much customization as Complete Action Plus did, but it gets you 80% there.
