[Q] Hellfire Phone Problem - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hello XDAForum. Recently being too impatient to wait for the official release of ICS for my LG G2x, I flashed Hellfire Sandwich 1.7 (Clean) onto my phone. However now the Phone application is having problems. When I try to call a phone, both phones hear this "HWA HWA HWA HWA HWA HWA HWA HWA..." sound. The "HWA HWA..." sound starts during dialing so I know it's my phone. And when the sound is going on, both sides can't send any sounds nor hear any sounds other than the "HWA HWA HWA..." Am I the only one with this problem? And if so, what can I do to fix it? Thanks in advance.

what's your baseband?
if it's 2012 I'm going to be a rich man one day!

Its doing it to its self, I might help if someone actually has useful questions, I have people pm me and they show they actually search and I help them from that point, these people that make useless threads with no info in them doesn't help anyone and is just clutter, if this person is on the 2012 baseband then he should join the 8 other threads about the same situation. There are V21y basebands out the ass on this forum which is just clutter! Go look at the threads on other phones they are handled and controlled and clutter free no duplicates, this one well obviously not so much. Don't hijack this thread already if you have any complaints or anything about how I do things in this forum, complain to a moderator (if they exist for this phone) or send me a pm... I understand I come off as a **** but I also say what's on everyone's mind as long as they aren't some super good doer who is just around to help, I am but I'm also here to learn!!!! And all I learn from this forum is people can't read and are lazy...
This was obviously sent from my phone and I've had some beers and Jack! So editing is the least of my worries. Thanks a bunch and apologies for being a Debbie Downer, Haha.

@iArtisan hahahaha damn.
@mt3g yeah a lot of people are lazy. I'm gonna be moving over to the DVP section soon. Hopefully I can learn more while I'm still here. Got a few projects in mind that will probably take a little while. For the DVP, not the G2x.
@OP if your using the 2012 baseband you need the roms by kwes1020. He's the only one who has made a rom with the new baseband to my knowledge.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1602798
He also has a few theme mods out there as well.

Here's the about phone:
Model number: LG-P999
Android version: 4.0.4
Baseband version: M6600A-SCAUNTZ-2.0.9720T 1 [MAR 11 2012 10:00:00] MP: TRULGE_08.09.02R_MDM
Kernel version: [email protected] #26 SMP PREEMPT Mon Feb 27 00:33:46 PST 2012
CyanogenMod version: 9.0.0-HellFireSandwich_V1.7
Build date: Thu Apr 12 05:07:16 MST 2012
Build number: IMM76D
I don't know if this helps but I want an explanation in layman's term XD

No rom's call audio will work with the latest 2012 baseband, only one is stock and kwes' 2.3.4 v21y...
Thanks for proving me right as well.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium

So what do should I do? I mean I rarely use the phone but that's the point of a cellphone XD is there anyway to use the phone? Is it possible to use Google Talk as a substitute for my phone?

You use the stock rom, nandroid wasn't done I assume? Look in the development section and flash Kwes v21y rom and you can use the phone... i assume you meant Google Voice instead of Google talk? That question is for someone else I use regular calling and wifi on roms that support it.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium

Haha yes I meant Google Voice XD
Is it possible for you to find a thread with Kwes v21y?

What I know is that LG has their nose to the grindstone trying to get this update out as soon as possible and they won't quit until they are finished and TMO accepts it and sends it out to everyone. To give you an idea of the pace of development happening I received v20t about 2.5 weeks ago and the current version being tested is v21b. The version that was leaked back during the G2x launch was v20c. That's a ton of revisions in a few weeks time!

Assuming LG uses alphabetical designation consecutively, that means there have been 25 revisions since launch, and 8 in the past 2.5 weeks. And they still can't come up with an update they feel is worth releasing.
Seems time to give up on this phone, call it bad hardware or whatever, and move on.
Oh, and I don't want to hear that the update works great, they just want to make it even better. If they could get it stable at all, I have to believe they would be falling all over themselves to get it out to the public, instead of continuing to take this kind of a beating in company image.
I personally think they are fixing the hardware of the phone because it can't be fixed with software updates. That would expalin the re-launch comment. Brace yourselves for the T-Mobile G2x 2.0 in the coming weeks.

Well, I've been patient since launch day... and I am now a member of the X-G2X club. Good luck to the rest of ya'll waiting!
Why do you guys still care about this update? Being on XDA, most of you probably rooted, so why not install CM7 while you're at it? It's very stable and fixes a lot of issues with the device.
Because if we have the official update, the developers here will probably have access to hardware drivers that function in gingerbread, which MIGHT allow us to get functionality of stereo bluetooth and high def video mirroring through hdmi, among other things.

Because none of those roms is 100% functional and still exhibit the same bugs as the stock rom. There is no GB kernel.

Yea cm7 is great and all but its truly not there fully...a2dp gps and sdcard amongst the most obvious issues.
Really the value of a STABLE gb rom is that a lot of the drivers and system stuff can be moved to a modded ROM. It will be great for all the ROMs when LG gets this out!

Note the mods reply and the number of builds/revisions they are going through. There is work going on for the update, and they also have to update the 2x at the same time, while launching the 3d and updating the G slate. I don't know about their revision naming scheme, i.e. what constitutes an increase in revision number. And I don't think you do.
Usually more revision means more bugs fixed and better QA testing.

Mute not working for Bluetooth on CM7 or CM9 ROMs

I just wanted to share something that I found the hard way.
The Mute is NOT working if you are using Bluetooth with a CM7 based ROM.
I actually am using EB 2.4 ROM and I was listening to a conference call with my Bluetooth headset with the Mute selected on the phone when I got an e-mail from a colleague telling me to mute my phone
This issue is already listed in the cyanogenmod project page as issue# 4439.
I just wanted to let people know of this bug and hopefully be saved from some embarrassing moments.
UPDATE:
The issue happens in all CM based ROMs that I have tested so far, including the beta ICS CM9 ROMs

That's too bad. I was hoping it would've been fixed on CM9.
Oh well. Just need to keep being careful and using the mute feature of the conference itself, instead of the phone.
BTW if you don't have an issue downgrading you can go to 2.3.3 and the problem goes away.
A BT connect problem may arise (as for me) but still worth a shot.

I think I remember something about the CM team saying bluetooth will never fully work, they had to do a workaround just to get bluetooth headsets working in the first place. Also, you should update your Eaglesblood build, 2.8 has some nice new things.

Which ICS ROM for my mother's Daily Driver?

Alright so my mother has the G2x. I decided to messed around with it the other day and discovered that the stock GB ROM is a train wreck. I mean it's slow, laggy, buggy and quite frankly I'm not sure it does this phone justice considering the specs on it. She agreed to let me upgrade her phone to ICS after seeing how good my MT4GS was with it. But I'm looking for the most stable version of this for her phone. She's not a big game player, and she really only uses the GPS, camera, email, and facebook. Plus a couple of cross-training apps which I'm sure will port over fine.
That being said, which ROM can you guys recommend to me? Should I keep the stock GB, root to a GB ROM (if so, which one is best suited for her needs), or should I make the leap to ICS (if so which rom)? Thanks in advance!

I have read some pretty good things about the AOKP Builds on other forums, not to mention having had some solid experiences myself with their stuff. Anything you found tricky or otherwise potentially annoying?
Thanks for the tip, regardless!
You need to keep in mind these things before getting an ICS rom. As of now, none of the ICS rom has proper video recording working. You can only record low resolution video with videocam illusion. Video playback on netflix also does not work. If you don't mind these things, ICS roms are pretty stable. IMO, AOKP and Owain's ICS ROMs are pretty good. If you want stable and fast GB roms, try hellfire phoenix 2.1. They are all in dev thread.

What criteria? There's no reason why GPS, Facebook, Camera and Email wouldn't be working on any ROM. Perhaps the best thing to do is head over to the development section and clicking on any rom; read the list of features and you'll know what works and what doesn't work. Pretty much any ROM that isn't experimental is stable.
Now if you want my opinion on it, I'd suggest you to go with Hellfire for both GB and ICS.
GB:

ICS:

if you bother to read any of the comments, you can find out how stable they are based on the experience of others.
Basically this is an undercover "what's the best ROM" thread, something that has been asked over and over.
And ics is more borked then any other rom so I say don't use one of those

Given the quantity of ROMs, it'd be a lot easier to just get some opinions from a few people rather than scroll through 1,000 posts to find out which one is the most stable for her needs. The criteria stands, as I did not know that video recording didn't work. And considering that plenty of ROMs don't have stable MMS, wonky GPS, etc, they're relevant to ask.
I appreciate your opinion and input, thanks for it. But I didn't really need a lecture on how to look things up. If this thread causes you that much trouble, then just ignore it and I'm sure your day will be fine. Chances are good it won't affect you in any way. There are likely other people who have no problem giving their opinions on the topic.

Agreed. Not that I don't use ICS, and not that I don't have ICS on my wife's phone, but if I were to put a rom on someone's phone that I don't have 24hr access to for updates, etc., it would be GB.
Well that's just how it is sometimes. You gotta actually work to find the answer to something.
It's nice we have such generous members like mt3g, MWBehr, dw9906 and zechizen, however, who are more than willing to give their input.
P.S. There's a search button to keep you from having to scroll through 1000's of posts. Ridiculous how you don't know that video recording doesn't work on ICS since there's a new post every few hours talking about LG and Nvidia not giving out drivers for the G2x.
Ya especially, if you aren't around to help out if something does go wrong. And artisan (I think is his name) is right there are two main threads that are just a couple scrolls down in GA section and Q&A that address which roms are being ran and one that address most stable.
p.s. owains ICS with Harsh latest kernel is best IMO ;-)

agree ^ i like fauxs kernel tho since you can overclock and under clock but for a daily driver and not caring aboout chaging the voltage harshs kernel would work just fine

No need to get feisty. And it seems like you already know some of the down falls of some of the ROMs. Really you should search though. But that is neither here nor there. I say you skip ICS for now. I'm sure a lot of them will cause some headaches for your mum. I say you go with HellfirePheonix 2.1 personally.

A confused G2x owner has a couple of questions.

Hi guys. I just picked up a used G2x off of craigslist, assuming it was going to much better than my Optimus T...not so much. The phone is great, but it's got two major issues I can't stand:
1. it randomly reboots all the time. Drives me insane.
2. The phone apparently makes a lot of odd noises (according to my girlfriend), i'm going to just label this bad "call quality".
My phone is on 2.3.4 official rom, v21y software, and has the March 2012 baseband.
I've been digging through piles of threads, and most of them are from last year. I can't find anything that suggests how to fix the random reboots. I can't handle it. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
As for the bad call quality, I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776843
and there's three possible basebands. I think I'm on the latest one (March 2012), but is there one that's better for call quality or newer?
Any help with these two things would be great. I'd just like to make this thing useable for a couple months til I get the S3.
Thanks,
Gunnar

Did you do a factory reset?

There is no fix for it. It just happens. Some it happens less with, some it happens more with. However, I've been able to minimize mine and actually haven't had it at since I've went to CM 7.2 Official with Faux123 Version 52 Kernel. This works VERY well for me and I really like the phone now once all of the problems are eliminated. This entire setup works on the new baseband too so no worries there. Not sure if you are rooted and into flashing ROMS but that is the setup has worked best for me. I tried stock and then Weapon G2x but none of them remedied the problem until I flashed CM 7.2. I still had it occasionally with other Faux123 Kernels but since the release of Versions 51 and 52 I have not has one single random reboot or shutdown.

Thanks,
Gunnar

Well... If you did a search.... *ducks* Sorry.. J/K
Like others have said, you'll find sanctuary in using one of the CM 7.2 ROMS that are currently available. They are GingerBread 2.3.7 ROMs, that are upgrades from stock 2.3.3 / 2.3.4. Since you are on the current baseband (March 2012) I would decide if Bluetooth Calling is valuable to you. If it is, then DO NOT UPGRADE to a CM7 / CM9 ROM. Bluetooth Calling breaks when you use any of the CM ROMS with the new baseband (unless this has very recently changed).
Alright, I guess I'll give CM 7.2 a shot once I get up to college and get moved in tomorrow (along with that kernel you mentioned). The thing is, eventually this phone is gonna get unlocked and sold on eBay, so I just wasn't sure if I could fix any of these problems or if I should just get rid of it now...
I don't bluetooth calling, so that isn't an issue.
Does CM 7.2 alleviate any of the pops/bad call quality? And as for that Faux123 kernel, I found the thread but I can't find version 52, only 51, is that good enough?
Thanks,
Gunnar
If you go with hellfire phoenix it's cm7.2 based with extra goodies baked in.. and it also already has faux kernel baked in.. Im running it right now and it's awesome... Although I did flash faux 048 kernel today, had some weird issue with wifi on and my phone overheated in my pocket and shut down on faux 052 kernel. Never happened till I had wifi on. Now running 048 and it's smooth as butter..

Alright, I may give that a shot. Do you have any random reboots or any other problems with it besides the overheating?

no, no reboots or anything like that. just overheated that one time.. the 048 kernel is on this page, post #4044.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420972&page=405
just remember to go to settings-applications-developement and check stay awake while charging.. this prevents the overheat issue while charging that faux kernels have.. enjoy!! oh and you will also need the new BB fix if your on v21y..
Here are the Faux Kernels.
LG-P999 is our model. Also if you go with CM make sure you get the CM versions of the Kernel.

Here are the older versions: http://faux.androidro.ms/archive

What does BB fix stand for (I'm guessing baseband)? I feel like such a noob when it comes to android...I can flash an xbox 360 and do anything I want on iOS...but seriously Android is the land of the unknown.
It's flashable .ZIP that you to flash with any G2X rom to make it usable with your baseband version. For instance, I have the march 2012 baseband and if I don't flash the fix I get pops and feedback during a call.
This thread has combined them all into one post:

[Q] Stability of roms for the g2x

Hi, I have a wind mobile lg-p999dw (T-Mobile G2x)
I wanted to know that since official updates never came out for the g2x cyanogenmod and other roms were created.
Since it was an abandoned phone, developers put this phone in their priority list.
CM7 was very successful and it went all the way to a fully stable version of CM 7.2.
Ever since CM9 came out these teams lost hope.
Cyanogenmod, Eaglesblood, Hellfire, Paranoid Android, ...
When jellybean came out CM 9 for the G2x was abandoned at an early stage and development of CM 10 started.
My question is why, WHY WHY WHY hasn't a perfectly stable version of a jellybean rom for g2x not come out that is perfectly as stable like CM 7.2 while other phones like htc one x and samsung galaxy s iii that already get official updates and get the stable version of the rom?
Different reasons for different ROMs.
For some older ones there wasn't HWA, but a hacked together version that still wasn't perfect and things like the camera had issues.
For newer ones the only major problem seems to be that the radio just isn't working.
It came down to LG not releasing drivers/code. People could hack together some things, but that could only get us so far. LG did a lot of weird things with their code, I believe.
At least, in my lurking and search, that's how I understand it. I'd love to see a fully working jellybean rom for the G2x since my girlfriend got it from me as a hand me down.
Take a look through adampk's CM10.1 thread in the development section and it's User Thread here in the general section. You'll get a good view at what's not working and what everyone has tried. Maybe you can even help out.

You have to understand that most of CM9 and CM10 builds right now are based on a deprecated kernel and a modified android framework, known as "hackfest", which lacks many functions needed in the newer OSes. If you try Adampk's build 6 with, optionally, my kernel, you will see that it is really stable and works well, but not the radio. This is being worked on actively.
Most of the teams you specified simply switched to a newer model, not because of a compatibility issue. Cyanogen left us because our phone maintainer, RC, couldn't fix the radio. If he did release it anyways he would've received a lot of complains, which he didn't want.
Why why why... Wah wah wah..

Do a search for baseband.zip, or look in these topics, there should be links in them.

WOW that worked great! Thank you very much. Do you know if there is a solutions for the bluetooth not connecting or no audio on bluetooth?
Downgrading your baseband to 2.3.3 is only known way to get working audio for Bluetooth calling at the moment

LOL yeah I guess you could do that too. I'm just way too much of a tweaker/modder/flashcrazy to keep a stock phone!

Based on experience, it is generally not a good idea to mess with your wife's phone . LOL.
