[Q] Can the B90 Transformer be downgraded from ICS to honeycomb???

Header says it all... and if the answer is YES, then a link to HOW to accomplish that would be greatly appreciated...

You would need to root, install cwm recovery, flash a rooted HC ROM.

From my experience, once you are on ICS, re-flashing Honeycomb via CWM does NOT solve the reboot issues (you'll have them in Honeycomb too). The ONLY way that I was able to return to a stable version of Honeycom was to NVFLash a stock honeycomb image and go from there. But, since you have a B90, you can't NVFlash, so basically, I think you're screwed at this point....
There is a whole thread about returning to honeycomb via CWM and still having the reboots, etc.. Search it out...

Don't think there's a way right now.

Can't you modify/use an ASUS Ota update package and use the stock recovery to 'Update' to HC. Reboot issues will still be there though.
Edit: as in when downgrading for razorclaw root etc

You can't downgrade on a stock tf.
The trick going from 8.6.5.21 to 8.6.6.19 to use razorclaw is technically an upgrade not downgrade. It was going from 8.6..5.21 to 8.6.6.19

Get a hc package, unzip the ics package, delete and replace as needed. Probably need to edit build.prop too, and make sure the kernel flashes.

Or is a replace of the blob file the onky we need?

Considering the kernel/os differences, higher than you'd want it to be, so I'd only do it as a last resort. Make a nandroid backup before doing any tinkering.

Cant do Backup without root. Thats why i want to downgrade...

I think the real question here is why would you want to downgrade to HC from ICS? It's pretty well known that a full system restore fixes most issues.

Why? Because ICS is completely un-stable on ALOT of TF101's (if not all). Honeycomb was rock solid.

First letter:
B=2011 & C=2012 manufacture year.
Second letter/number:
1=Jan 2=Feb ect till Oct which is A(hex)
So your C3O was manufacture in March 2012.
Only different is the SBK
ASUS changed the sbk mid July 2011.

I am version .29 (i think, how do i tell?) and i want to root.
I don't want to flash new ROMs yet, so I don't think i need an unlocked bootloader. If I only root the tablet, will I permanently void my warranty?

settings/about tablet and scroll down to build number...you will see a long number and .26 or .29 followed by a long number.
congrats...I'm still having some issues rooting. ota rootkeeper didn't keep my root when I upgraded from .17 to .29...still working on it

Something is borked with your system my friend. I've been following your attempts to root. I rooted my system as of today with .17 using sparkys root. It didn't work the first time for whatever ryhme or reason, then after trying it a second time doing it a little differently, it worked. If there is a way for you to do a full wipe/reload and start fresh, I would do that.

I thought he had manually updated to .29, in which case you wouldn't be able to restore with rootkeeper.

Rooted my stock .29 300 with sparky's root tool tonight; worked first time flawlessly.

Rooting Newest Firmware Update?

Hey all, just got my TF700 on Friday. So stoked.
I am about to root my tablet, but I want to make sure the current tools with work (sparkym3 and Debugfs) with the newest update. I would rather root the latest release than root what I have and use Voodoo. I have had issues doing that in the past.
My current firmware is IML74K.US_epad-9-4-5.26-20120720
How many update as I away from current? Will the current tools work with the most recent updates? Which method do you guys recommend?

I have not been able to get those two methods to work for me on the newest update. I think I am a rare exception, most seem to have success. I have even returned a tablet becuase of defect and the second would not root either. It wasnt a big deal because i knew i was going to unlock the bootloader and then i could install a custom recovery and rom and achieve root that way. If you are planning on unlocking I suggest you do a little more research in the NVFlash page because if you update from your current firmware that will no longer be an option. Just my 2 cents

(Imo) i would just root what you have now and use voodoo. Checkout the nvflash thread while your at it. ( doesn't work with .30 update, i wish i had noticed that before i upgraded to .30 )

I know it was mentioned but just for good measure... If you plan on unlocking at all make sure you do it before upgrading to .30 so that you can get nvflash setup for your device.

Is .30 the next update? How many update am I away from current?
I have some thinking to do, I wasn't planning on unlocking (at least until CM and AOKP officially support the TF700) but if NvFlash won't work on any other updates I may need to rethink.

And to be honest, I don't really see the purpose in unlocking. I ROMed my TF101 but ASUS does such a good job of only altering AOSP with small (and beneficial) changes I may just leave my Infinity as is. Especially if I have to stick with the shipped firmware and once I update NvFlash won't work. I guess I can always just flash ROMs without NvFlash though...
But my two questions above still stand.
One more question as this is the first device I have owned that had NvFlash available. What is the benefit of having NvFlash vs just CWM? Just protection in case I do something really stupid?

You are one update away from the latest which is .30. (soon to be two) The debugfs root method will root you.

Nvflash allows you to flash anything even if the bootloader is corrupted or prevents it, it also allows you to downgrade when the bootloader prevents it e.g. .30 to .26. it is also required to flash custom bootloaders which is useful if someone develops a dual-boot bootloader. You can even relock and reunlock your bootloader with nvflash. If you don't plan on using non-stock fw though, stay locked so that you can get your updates and support.

If you have .26 and are going to unlock, you may as well create your nvflash files. It isn't so much as flashing nvflash. Nvflash is already hardcoded in the tegra chip. You would just be creating the encrypted files needed to utilize it on your device. You save these in triplicate in case the worst happens. Unlocking is necessary for generating the nvflash files, but it voids your warranty and leaves you unable to recieve OTAs (you can still update manually using methods listed in the development forums).
I'm not explicitly recommending that you unlock, but if you do, it's best to do it on the .26 update, so you can get those nvflash files from your device.

So if I do install NvFlash can I still waiting install official updates from Asus by downloading them from Asus website?
I really want to try Asus's stock Jelly Bean ROM, so anything that removes that as an option is not for me.

you don't install nvflash. you use it to interface with the device's apx mode.
as for the official firmwares, you can still install those even if you are unlocked. you just have to do it manually.

Yup, you can just download the firmware zip from asus's website:

Unzip it once(it'l be another zip) and flash that in TWRP. (not sure if it works in cwm. I am biased but I definately recommend twrp:angel Make sure you uncheck flash recovery. reinstall recovery using fastboot because the update deletes it.

No, you need to unlock to take a bootloader backup, which you will not able to take OTA Jelly Been, however, you can download the new Jelly Bean from Asus website and manually flash it.

OK I feel like I understand now. There really aren't any downsides to setting up NvFlash (Asus warranty not an issue, I have Best Buy's super program where I can return the tablet even if I just scratch the screen if I want to).
My initial impression was that if I unlocked I would not be able to update any stock firmware period, and that if I set up NvFlash I could not move from .26.
If I understand correctly I just have to be on .26 to set up NvFlash, and can manually install official Asus firmware after unlocking.

You will have to wait for a new method to come out which may be a while. At this time if you lose root or have not rooted prior to JB you cannot get it back.

Yes, you are stuck. You will either have to develop a root method yourself or wait for someone else to do it for you unless you are willing to unlock. If you unlock, you should be able to flash alternate ROMs, etc, the sky's the limit. Be aware though, if you unlock, you will void your warranty and will not be able get OTAs. Flashing ROMs also comes with a certain amount of risk (especially w/out nvflash which you can't get since you upgraded).

Return it if you can. With the new one, Root and save with Voodoo OTA First, then run the JB update. It may be a long time before someone develops a root method for JB. The TF300 has been on JB for a while now and still no Root solution.

I think that's the best recommendation to the OP. Cause there's no telling when a native JB root solution will come. Especially since all the Devs are already rooted.

i did the voodoo ota rootkeeper. it says I have root but when I try and open titanium backup, it doesn't work. any solutions?

I had an issue with the device at first with es File explorer. Had to install newer beta version of superUser and that fixed it. I have SU 3.1 installed now and all is working fine.

I found a jellybean root exploit in another thread I'll see if I can adapt it to work on the infinity. No guarantees though. I'm sure we'll be able to get this wild beast to submit once more!... eventually.

Are you using Superuser or Supersu? SuperSu is better in JB in my experience. Anyway open it and have it forget Titanium. Then open TB again and grant access.

you dont have to wait. you can downgrade to .30 update root it. and upgrade and use vooodoo OTA root keeper to root JB

You first have to decide if you want to void your manufacturer warranty by unlocking the boot loader (so that you can install custom ROMs). You do not need to unlock the boot loader if you only want to root it.
However, once you upgrade to JellyBean, you won't be able to install NVFlash any more, so if you are planning to unlock it in the near future, you should seriously consider doing it now, and then install NVFlash.
If you decide to unlock, there's no problem in rooting it afterwards. If you decide NOT to unlock, but still want to root, you should do so BEFORE you upgrade to JellyBean, as there's currently no way to root a JellyBean installation on the TF700 (if you install JellyBean without root, you'll have to downgrade to ICS to root, and then upgrade to JellyBean again).
As you can see, it all depends on what you want to do with your device - now and in the future. There's no way to know if it'll be possible in the future to install NVFlash on a JB installation, but once you have installed JB, you CANNOT install NVFlash - not even if you roll back to ICS. So you have to decide if you want NVFlash or not, and if so, you need to unlock it while on ICS and proceed from there.

If you want to keep the locked bootloader and warranty: First, root it. Look for the tutorial here in the Forum, it's very easy, should be something like "Root with debugfs".
Then, download OTA Rootkeeper from the Market (Google Play). Use it to protect your root.
Afterwards, you can either try the normal OTA Update (Didn't work for me, too big of a jump), or follow the following tutorial to update from one revision to the next. (So you've gotta update around 4-5 times in total to get to the newest JB revision).

So I see.
Option 1) Rooted only and keep warranty - can't flash it.
Option 2) Root and unlock, lost warranty but be able to flash it. For this I need unlock the bootloader. And I would need to unlock to bootloader to install NvFlash, is it right?
What will be your recommendation? Do I need to flash it? The use would be recreational (internet/video/games) and travel laptop.

I personally didn't flash mine, at the moment I just don't need it. Should be fine for you to, why don't you try root & locked bootloader first?
You can always unlock the bootloader later on, but you can't "relock" it

The only reason why I would be considering to unlock it NOW is the NvFlash. Because I definitely want to update to JB.

Well you could always just use it for a day or two before you risk blowing it up.

The chances of a brick are low...then again you never know for sure.

Then I installed JB OTA no issues.
But now OTA Rootkeeper is telling me that I'm not rooted??!! What is going on?

Did you actually backup your root using OTA Rootkeeper?

Did you protect the root with OTA Rootkeeper? Otherwise you just lost it....
You should be able to downgrade to ICS and root again following this:

So I downgraded already twice, run the OTA Rootkeeper, got the message that SU protected, run the JB update, run the OTA Rootkeeper again and no protected SU available... Where am I doing it wrong?

Didn't need to because the OTA came on always automatically as soon as I rebooted. So I let it run.

I think I'm doing something wrong with the OTA Rootkeeper because it will not give me option to temp un-root...

Do you have Superuser installed? If not, try to install it from the Market, it will show you if you really got root.
From my perspective it sounds like you don't actually have root or just no application to control root.
